• LRU LinkedHashMap that limits size based on available memory

  I want to create a LinkedHashMap which will limit its size based on available memory (ie. when freeMemory + (maxMemory - allocatedMemory) gets below a certain threshold). This will be used as a form of cache, probably using "least recently used" as a caching strategy. My concern though is that allocatedMemory also includes (I assume) un-garbage collected data, and thus will over-estimate the amount of used memory. I'm concerned about the unintended consequences this might have. For example, the LinkedHashMap may keep deleting items because it thinks there isn't enough free memory, but the free memory doesn't increase because these deleted items aren't being garbage collected immediately. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Is my concern warranted? If so, can anyone suggest a good approach? I should add that I also want to be able to "lock" the cache, basically saying "ok, from now on don't delete anything because of memory usage issues".

• How to center text in a select list

  I'm having trouble styling a select list in an html form. Basically I want it to have a font size of 12px, and a height of 30px; The problem is that the box is drawn to the right hight, but the text rendering varies in each browser. In FireFox it renders it in the top left corner. I want to vertically center the text. Anyone know of a way to do this or do I need to make something custom out of a ul? Thanks

  Does anyone know of a good online compiler/runtime (for C++, Java, Python, ObjC etc.) that I can access on the web? What I'm looking for is something that would allow me to type in a program in a web form and to run the program and see the results online. (Let's not get into the why for now. Suffice it to say for the moment that I don't always have access to a compiler/runtime, and firing up an IDE is just overkill for testing out some code snippets) I know of codepad.org -- but I'm looking for something better.

  I have a parent object that contains a property that is a list of children objects. I'd like to have it so that when the form loads to create the parent object a partial view is used to create the list of child objects. The problem is I have to idea how to have the list of children object populated. I can do one object ok, but a dynamic list of possible children is difficult.   I have installed the application on the client's server. Here's the issue though.. The client's server is running on medium trust. With medium trust godaddy does not give persmissions to certain files. If you go to the following URL : http://helpingyougethired.com/Introduction.aspx you will see the error : Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder. If I delete the "Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder.dll" and "Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder.xml", the pages load. But when I try to save the form, I get some error related to this dll. So I need to find an alternative for this dll. I cannot use this DLL. my save, delete, select process is depend on this dll plz provide any solution if u have. thanks in advance

• trying to set a dropdown in MVC

  I almost have this solved but need a little push. Here's what I have: In the database I have a field called active that is a bit field (True/False) I have placed a dropdownlist on the View form like this: <%= Html.DropDownList("lstActive", new SelectList((IEnumerable)ViewData["ActiveList"])) %> In my controller, I simply have this code to generate the True/False in the dropdown: List<string> activeList = new List<string>(); activeList.Add("True"); activeList.Add("False"); ViewData["ActiveList"] = new SelectList(activeList); I want to bind to the field in the database called active and select it in the dropdown. When I view it like this I get this: So the questions are these: Obviously I am not pointing to the Value and Text property but what is that in this case? And how do I select the value that is in the database? Any help would be appreciated.

I believe so but i would like to have a better understanding of the internal process, from the man page you can clearly see a small workflow sequence: -jar Execute a program encapsulated in a JAR file.   Having trouble with AR 2.3.5, e.g.: users = User.all( :select => "u.id, c.user_id", :from => "users u, connections c", :conditions => ... ) Returns, e.g.: => [#<User id: 1000>] >> users.first.attributes => {"id"=>1000, "user_id"=>"1000"} Note that AR returns the id of the model searched as numeric but the selected user_id of the joined model as a String, although both are int(11) in the database schema. How could I better form this type of query to select columns of tables backing multiple models and retrieving their natural type rather than String ? Seems like AR is punting on this somewhere. How could I coerce the returned types at AR load time and not have to tack .to_i (etc.) onto every post-hoc access?

And I´m using all the built in stuff, provided by my friend VS Studio, dragging and dropping, creating SQL query tables in DataSet.xsd, and so on... I like that. But! I would like to try out LINQ, as I would like to have something that to me is more intuitive than pure SQL... And (here comes the newbie-problem to be solved)! I don´t know where to put the LINQ code to make a table "pop up" in the Data Sources window - meaning I´m completely stuck! How should I do it?

  Hi! This question follows this: handling to onchange event of AutoCompleteTextField in wicket I'm trying to use the AutoCompleteTextField with a custom class as the generic type, and to add an AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior. What I mean is I want to have a AutoCompleteTextField<SomeClass> myAutoComplete = ...; and after that add a AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior: myAutoComplete.add(new AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior("onchange") { @Override protected void onUpdate(AjaxRequestTarget target) { System.out.println( "Value: "+getValue() ); } }); The problem is that for some reason, adding that behavior makes the form try to set the model object with a String (even though the AutoCompleteTextField has a generic type of SomeClass), causing a ClassCastException when the onchange event fires. Is there a way to use AutoCompleteTextField without it being AutoCompleteTextField<String>? I couldn't find any example. • Setting parameters after obtaining their values in stored procedures

  Right now I have an upload field while uploads files to the server. The prefix is saved so that it can later be obtained for retrieval. For this I need to attach the ID of the form to the prefix. I would like to be able to do this as such: @filePrefix = SCOPE_IDENTITY() + @filePrefix; However I am not so sure this would work because the record has not been created yet. If anything I could call an update function which obtains the ID and then injects it into the row after it has been created. To speed things up, I don't want to do this on the server but rather do this on the database. Regardless of what the approach is, I would still like to know if something like the above is possible (at least for future reference?) So if we replace that with @filePrefix = 5 + @filePrefix; would that be possible? SQL doesn't seem to like the current syntax very much...

In .NET I have MasterPage, UserControl, PartialView each has its own code behind. e.g. I can save the check login functions in Login.ascx.cs and render the Login.ascx wherever I'd like to. If logged in, it shows the welcome message, else shows the login form. But in Flask I only found {% include 'login.html' %} which include the static html file. How can I implement this design in Flask?

• Wordpress: Issues trying to display all comments in one page

  Hi, I'm trying to modify my wordpress theme (inove) to display all comments in the same page instead of 50 comments per page. I opened the comments.php file, commented out calls to paginate_comments_links() and and set the wp_list_comments() as follows: wp_list_comments('type=comment&callback=custom_comments&per_page=100&page=1'); The problem is, whenever someone posts a comments, the comment form appends '/comment-page-2/' to the URL after submitting the comment, even though I've specified that all comments to be displayed on the same page. Any idea what I could be missing? Appreciate your help

• HTML not updating?

  I have a CGI application written in C. When I POST delete data to the app from the html form, the action is correctly executed on the server but the page does not refresh after the POST. It does flicker, but displays the non-updated page. I then have to hit the browsers refresh to see the correct html page. Is this the web server? Javascript? or just a browser setting? (I am using GoAhead web server, cgi app in C, javascript, html and Fire Fox.) Any help is appreciated.

• Objective-C style question: do "release" or "nil" properties in dealloc?

  Hi, Apple usually release ivars in dealloc but is there anything wrong with nilling the properties in dealloc? I mean instead of this: - (void) dealoc(){ [myRetainedProperty release]; [super dealloc]; } write code like this: - (void) dealoc(){ self.myRetainedProperty = nil; [super dealloc]; } I know that it is one additional method call but on the other hand it is safer as it doesn't crashes when you change your property form retain to assign and forget to amend dealloc. What do you think? Can you think about any other reason to use release instead of setting nil besides performance?
