  • What format is "undf"?

    By accident, I recently removed some videos from my phone. I tried to restoring them with Recuva and TuneUp Utilities and the results were "undf" files. I tried to open with VLC, Media Player Classic and other video players to no avail. Where/how do I find out the codec for these files? I would really love to be able to watch these videos again.

  • Command history in zsh

    Currently I have zsh set up in such a way that command history is shared between all sessions immediately. Say I have a terminal emulator open with two tabs, each with a zsh session, A1 and A2. If I enter ls -la in A1, and then go to A2 and press up arrow key, I will see ls -la in the command prompt. I would like to change it so sessions don't share the command history with each other although when you start new session it gets all the previous history from all sessions before it.

  • How to fix Windows 2008 R2 show less memory than available

    I've got Win2008 R2 64bit installed on Dell R410 server with 8GB of RAM. Dell Open Manage shows 8GB total and 4GB available for use, In Windows Control Panel, System i see 64bit and 8GB of RAM while in Windows Task Manager at Performance tab there is 4GB of memory available. Dell support has made some checks and told me that if BIOS shows 8Gb of RAM and indeed BIOS does then it's operational system issue. Tried to search online for resolution but none found. Please help, thanks

    A Linux server running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LAMP has a strange behaviour since last week: - cpu %sys higher than before, nearly equal %usr (before that, %sys just little compare with %usr) - IO reduce by half or 1/3 compare with the week before I try to diagnostic the process/cpu by some command (top/vmstat/mpstat/sar), and see that maybe it's a bit high on interrupt timer/resched. I don't know what that means, now open to any suggestion.

    I have a FreeBSD machine with jails -- two in particular, one that runs nginx and another that runs a Java program that accepts requests via Jetty (embedded mode) Jetty receives upwards of 500 requests/sec constantly and there has been an issue lately where I will constantly have over 60,000 connections in the LAST_ACK state between nginx and jetty. PF/IPFW is not currently being used nginx - reset_timedout_connection is on I cannot figure out how to get nginx or jetty to forcibly close the connection, is this simply something that needs to be fixed in Jetty so that it fully closes the socket after the request finishes?   • Capture Outgoing Email to One Mailbox or Account on Linux

    I am looking to see if anything exists that would allow us to capture all outgoing email on a machine -- for example, in a staging environment -- and drop it in a single place, which ideally would be something we could check with a mail client. Currently we're doing this on the software level (if environment is staging, rewrite address) which is a bit ugly and leads to errors. The servers are currently on Debian Linux, using exim as the mail transport. Open to any and all suggestions!

  • How can I disable the css {position:fixed} side-bar on Slashdot?

    When I look at a story on Slashdot, I see a side-bar that sits constantly in the upper-left corner. Every time I open a story, I have to click on the "slash" sign in its upper-right corner. How can I disable it, so it will always have css position absolute, relative or static? Is there an option for it? Because I find it is slowing my browser down when I am scrolling the page.     My OS is Windows 7. I try to download Adobe® Acrobat 9 Pro for English and Windows (326.6MB) by its Akamai Download Manager and then click on "Install Now". But I meet some error: "Action center.lnk" is a file which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it? The Apache error log may have more information. myUser@myMachine:/etc $ sudo apachectl stop httpd (no pid file) not running I'm brand new to Ubuntu (and Linux) and downloaded Apache 2.2 (worker) through Synaptic. I found a httpd.conf flavor I liked and am using it.

  • Why doesn't apache restart after configuring SSL?

    I've installed apache2 and then configured it to work with SSL following this and this tutorials, the problem becomes when I try to restart the service, I get the following error: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs the output of netstat -anp | grep 443 just display firefox listening and anything else, how could I solve this and get the service running??

  • Computer freezes +/- 30 seconds, suspicion on SSD

    My computer freezes for about 30 seconds, this happens occasionally. When it happens I can still move the mouse, sometimes even alternate between tabs in google chrome. If I try to open windows explorer nothing happens. Also chrome rapports "waiting for cache". It also happens in starcraft II, during which the sounds loops. My system specs are: AMD Athlon X4 651 Asus Ati HD6670 ADATA SSD sp900 Asus f1a55 mainboard 4 GB crucial 1333 ram 500 watt atx ps I'm running Windows 7, fully updated. Any help is much appreciated. Update: I tried something before your reply that may have helped the problem. I don't know for sure if it has, it's too soon to tell. A bit of history first. I had problems installing win7 on my ssd from the start. In IDE mode it worked, but I had the same problems as above. AHCI was a total fail, with it on before install as well as turning it on after install (including tweaking register). I didn't bother installing the AMD chipset/AHCI as it was reported to have no TRIM function and thus make problems worse. Eventually I did install the AMD SMbus driver as the stability issues were driving me crazy. It worked, no more issues, until I installed some extra drivers and software. Audio/LAN/ASUS suite, I don’t see the relation, but somehow it screwed up my system again. As a last effort I posted here on this site. After which the thought occurred to me turn on AHCI again as by now I had all necessary drivers installed anyway. (plus all windows updates downloaded/installed in the meantime) I did and stability didn’t seem great the first few reboots, but eventually everything seemed to work great. I tried to play starcraft II – an almost guaranteed freeze before – and I had no problems. I’m basically crossing my fingers and hope the problem is gone for good. I still think it has something to do with my SSD. In my research into the problem I noticed a lot of these issues with sandforce 2281 firmware, the exact same firmware I have. People reported the same problem that I had, freezes. Additionally they reported that during a freeze the hdd light stayed on, I noticed after I read this that this happened with my computer as well. None of this is conclusive evidence that my SSD is really to fault, but it is suspicious. And why turning on AHCI would fix it I don’t know. Thank you Tom for taking a look, if the problem returns I will certainly do what you advised.

  • Opening Python in CMD (Unfixable Error)

    I recently tried opening one of my Python projects with CMD to see what would happen. The result did nothing amazing, but Windows 7 thought I wanted to open .py files in CMD all the time. I have tried everything, setting it back to python.exe does not work, I even went to Control Panel to see if it could help, but Control Panel couldn't help either.   • How do I get details about how Network and Sharing Center detected a problem?

    When I open Network and Sharing Center in Windows 7, it puts a red X between the network and the internet, but when I run Troubleshoot Problems it tells me that it does not know what the problem is. Is there any way to tell what test Windows used to place that red X, and how it failed? The system obviously knows something that it is not telling me. Knowing the details would help me solve this problem.

    I often come into the following situation: Get an email with attachment in MS Outlook Open that attachment in MS Word Starting to edit the document in MS Word Start replying to the email in MS Outlook Getting the edited document into my reply I have to save that file to disk and then drag it as attachment. I would think of a short way to get that document as attachement in the newly generated email. Is there a way to implement a save location as clipboard or just a copy to clipboard (the document, not the content)?

    I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and now the 3D doesn't work. According to dxdiag DirectX 11 is installed, but when I open up World of Warcraft, this error comes up. World of Warcraft World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up-to-date. There are no alerts from Windows to update any drivers. Why doesn't the 3D work?

  • How do I quickly switch to/from the front panel speakers in Ubuntu?

    I have speakers attached to my front panel sound output that I switch to frequently. Currently the process is to open Terminal, type "alsamixer", scroll over to "Front Panel", and press "M" to activate it. Although this doesn't seem like much, it's a hassle when switching between outputs frequently. Are there any faster alternatives, such as a button that can be placed on the GNOME panel or a shortcut key that can be used?
