  I am currently programming a Visual C# service to receive emails from various sources then I take certain info and organize it in a database using Regex to retrieve the deferent cell values (such as header, body, problem, cost, etc.etc.). My problem is that I am currently using a Hotmail account to email the service which the service then extracts data and writes it to a csv file; however this is all going fine an dandy except for the fact that the text is formated so when there is a "\n" or something of the sort, the program decides to not input the data that follows that into the cell. • MediaElement fails after several plays.

  Hi! I have a problem with MediaElement control. I've put six MediaElements on my form, then I start them and change played files by timer. After several times, these elements stop playing. • Make Bluetooth on Android 2.1 discoverable indefinitely

  Hello all. I'm working on a research project which involves Bluetooth and the Android OS. I need to make Bluetooth discoverable indefinitely in order for the project to continue. The Problem: Android limits discoverability to 300 seconds. I cannot ask the user every 300 seconds to turn discoverability back on as my application is designed to run in the background without disturbing the user. As far as I am aware, there is no way to increase the time though Android's GUI. Some sources have called this a safety feature, others have called this a bug. There may be a bit of truth in both... What I'm Trying / Have Tried: I'm trying to edit a stable release of cyanogenmod to turn the discoverability timer off (it's possible; there's a configuration file that needs to have a single number changed). This isn't working because I'm having verification problems with the resulting package. During the past week, I downloaded the cyanogenmod source code, changed a relevant class in the hope that it would make Bluetooth discoverable indefinitely, and tried to recompile. This did not work because (a) the repo is frequently changed, leading to an unstable code base which fails to compile (OR, it could be that I'm using it incorrectly; just because it looked like it was the code's fault in many instances doesn't mean I should blame it for all the problems I encountered!) and (b) the repo decides to periodically "ignore" me (but not always, as I have gotten the code base before!), replying to my synchronization/connection attempts with: fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly As you might imagine, the above two issues are problematic and very frustrating to deal with. More Info: I'm running Android 2.1 via cyanogenmod (v5 I believe). This means the phone is also rooted. I have a developer phone, which means that the bootloader is unlocked. My phone is an HTC Magic (32B). The Big Question: How can I make Bluetooth indefinitely discoverable on Android? Thanks for your time and input. I feel like I'm spinning my tires on this issue and I'd like to move past it.

• Problems related to showing MessageBox from non-GUI threads

  I'm working on a heavily data-bound Win.Forms application where I've found some strange behavior. The app has separate I/O threads receiving updates through asynchronous web-requests which it then sends to the main/GUI thread for processing and updating of application-wide data-stores (which in turn may be data-bound to various GUI-elements, etc.). The server at the other end of the web-requests requires periodic requests or the session times out. I've gone through several attempted solutions of dealing with thread-issues etc. and I've observed the following behavior: If I use Control.Invoke for sending updates from I/O-thread(s) to main-thread and this update causes a MessageBox to be shown the main form's message pump stops until the user clicks the ok-button. This also blocks the I/O-thread from continuing eventually leading to timeouts on the server. If I use Control.BeginInvoke for sending updates from I/O-thread(s) to main-thread the main form's message pump does not stop, but if the processing of an update leads to a messagebox being shown, the processing of the rest of that update is halted until the user clicks ok. Since the I/O-threads keep running and the message pump keeps processing messages several BeginInvoke's for updates may be called before the one with the message box is finished. This leads to out-of-sequence updates which is unacceptable. I/O-threads add updates to a blocking queue (very similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/530211/creating-a-blocking-queuet-in-net/530228#530228). GUI-thread uses a Forms.Timer that periodically applies all updates in the blocking queue. This solution solves both the problem of blocking I/O threads and sequentiality of updates i.e. next update will be never be started until previous is finished. However, there is a small performance cost as well as introducing a latency in showing updates that is unacceptable in the long run. I would like update-processing in the main-thread to be event-driven rather than polling. So to my question. How should I do this to: avoid blocking the I/O-threads guarantee that updates are finished in-sequence keep the main message pump running while showing a message box as a result of an update.

• Problem retrieving HTML5 video duration

  UPDATE: Ok so although I haven't solved this problem exactly, but I did figure out a work around that handles my biggest concern... the user experience. First the video doesn't begin loading until after the viewer hits the play button, so I am assuming that the duration information wasn't available to be pulled (I don't know how to fix this particular issue... although I assume that it would involve just loading the video metadata separately from the video, but I don't even know if that is possible). So to get around the fact that there is no duration data, I decided to hide the duration info (and actually the entire control) completely until you hit play. I know... its cheating. But for now it makes me happy :) That said... if anyone knows how to load the video metadata separately from the video file... please share. I think that should completely solve this problem. I am working on building a HTML5 video player with a custom interface, but I am having some problems getting the video duration information to display. My HTML is real simple (see below) <video id="video" poster="image.jpg" controls> <source src="video_path.mp4" type="video/mp4" /> <source src="video_path.ogv" type="video/ogg" /> </video> <ul class="controls"> <li class="time"><p><span id="timer">0</span> of <span id="duration">0</span></p></li> </ul> And the javascript I am using to get and insert the duration is var duration = $('#duration').get(0); var vid_duration = Math.round(video.duration); duration.firstChild.nodeValue = vid_duration; The problem is nothing happens. I know the video file has the duration data because if I just use the default controls, it displays fine. But the real strange thing is if I put alert(duration) in my code like so alert(duration); var vid_duration = Math.round(video.duration); duration.firstChild.nodeValue = vid_duration; then is works fine (minus the annoying alert that pops up). Any ideas what is happening here or how I can fix it?

• Can a View Controller manage more than 1 nib based view?

  I have a VC controlling a screen of content that has 2 modes; a normal mode and an edit mode. Can I create a single VC with 2 views, each from separate nibs? In many situations on the iphone, you have a VC which controls an associated view. Then on a button press or other event, a new VC is loaded and its view becomes the top level view etc. But in this situation, I have 2 modes that I want to use the same VC for, because they are closely related. So I want a VC which can swap in/out 2 views. As per here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/863321/iphone-how-to-load-a-view-using-a-nib-file-created-with-interface-builder/2683153#2683153 I have found that I can load a VC with an associated view from a nib and then later on load a different view from another nib and make that new view the active view. NSArray *nibObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"EditMode" owner:self options:nil]; UIView *theEditView = [nibObjects objectAtIndex:0]; self.editView = theEditView; [self.view addSubview:theEditView]; The secondary nib has outlets wired up to the VC like the primary nib. When the new nib is loaded, the outlets are all connected up fine and everything works nicely. Unfortunately when this edit view is then removed, there doesn't seem to be any elegant way of getting the outlets hooked up again to the (normal mode) view from the original nib. Nib loading and outlet setting seems a once only thing. So, if you want to have a VC that swaps in/out 2 views without creating a new VC, what are the options? 1) You can do everything in code, but I want to use nibs because it makes creating the UI simpler. 2) You have 1 nib for your VC and just hide/show elements using the hidden property of UIView and its subclasses. 3) You load a new nib as described above. This is fine for the new nib, but how do you sort the outlets when you go back to the original nib. 4) Give up and accept having a 1:1 between VCs and nibs. There is a nib for normal mode, a nib for edit mode and each mode has a VC that subclasses a common superclass. In the end, I went with 4) and it works, but requires a fair amount of extra work, because I have a model class that I instantiate in normal mode and then have to pass to the edit mode VC because both modes need access to the model. I'm also using NSTimer and have to start and stop the timer in each mode. It is because of all this shared functionality that I wanted a single VC with 2 nibs in the first place.

• Android - How to scan Access Points and select strongest signal?

  I am currently trying to write a class in Android that will Scan for access points, calculate which access point has the best signal and then connect to that access point. So the application will be able to scan on the move and attach to new access points on the go. I have the scanning and calculation of the best signal working. But when it comes to attaching to the best access point I am having trouble. It appears that enableNetwork(netid, othersTrueFalse) is the only method for attaching to an Access point but this causes problems as from my Scan Results I am not able to get the id of the access point with the strongest signal. • Auto update the content in ASP.NET

  I have to design a website where user can update their status, just like facebook and twitter and other social networking sites. Now my requirement is to refresh the feed with new user updates. Ex: when the new status comes facebook automatically add that on the top of the feed. on the other hand twitter shows the number of updates which is ready to be load. both ways are acceptable to me Now, I have to decide what is the best way to achieve this functionality. I am open to use ASP.NET. So I am confused that regular repeater control with timer and auto refresh or any other way? (I am wondering that if I set repeater for auto update and meanwhile if user is performing some action on any status it will lost). or do I need to change my framework from ASP.NET to ASP.NET MVC (I am little afraid with MVC as I have very less knowledge regarding it and I know it has a learning curve to master ajax/Jquery things) Any suggestion how I can I achieve it in a better and feasible way? EDIT1 I am not looking for a code but I want advice to achieve this. Supporting URL's would be appreciated. EDIT2 I am open to JQuery which can regularly check the database and fill the section. But my concern is this that if user is updating any comment and want to load/feed is automatically generated. his textbox text shouldn't be disappear (just like facebook, twitter or Linkedin) EDIT3 I have seen that on Stack overflow when any other user has modified the question/answer, I got notification like this question/answer is modified. and when I clicked on that notification only that section got reloaded. I am curious to know how to achieve this functionality. So that when user is commenting on a status/post and if meanwhile someone has updated the content then it would show the other user comment. Edit4 Could someone please recommend me an example of ASP.NET MVC 3+ which can do similar kind of activity (i.e. one input box and once user insert an text it will add the item in the list (with JQuery).

• I just can't kill Java thread.

  I have a thread that downloads some images from internet using different proxies. Sometimes it hangs, and can't be killed by any means. public HttpURLConnection uc; public InputStream in; Proxy proxy = new Proxy(Proxy.Type.HTTP, new InetSocketAddress("server", 8080)); URL url = new URL("http://images.com/image.jpg"); uc = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection(proxy); uc.setConnectTimeout(30000); uc.setAllowUserInteraction(false); uc.setDoOutput(true); uc.addRequestProperty("User-Agent","Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)"); uc.connect(); in = uc.getInputStream(); When it hangs, it freezes at the uc.getInputStream() method. I made a timer which tries to kill the thread if it's run time exceeds 3 minutes. I tried .terminate() the thread. No effect. I tried uc.disconnect() from the main thread. The method also hangs and with it, the main thread. I tried in.close(). No effect. I tried uc=null, in=null hoping for an exception that will end the thread. It keeps running. It never passes the uc.getInputStream() method. In my last test the thread lasted over 14 hours after receiving all above commands (or various combinations). I had to kill the Java process to stop the thread. If I just ignore the thread, and set it's instance to null, the thread doesn't die and is not cleaned by garbage collector. I know that because if I let the application running for several days, the Java process takes more and more system memory. In 3 days it took 10% of my 8Gb. RAM system. It is impossible to kill a thread whatever?

  Hi... I want to program a simple audio sequencer on the iphone but I can't get accurate timing. The last days I tried all possible audio techniques on the iphone, starting from AudioServicesPlaySystemSound and AVAudioPlayer and OpenAL to AudioQueues. In my last attempt I tried the CocosDenshion sound engine which uses openAL and allows to load sounds into multiple buffers and then play them whenever needed. As soon as something else happens (i.g. drawing in a view) it goes out of sync. As I understand the sound engine and openAL the buffers are loaded (in the init code) and then are ready to start immediately with alSourcePlay(source); - so the problem may be with NSTimer? Now there are dozens of sound sequencer apps in the appstore and they have accurate timing. I.g. "idrum" has a perfect stable beat even in 180 bpm when zooming and drawing is done.   I'm designing a protocol (in C) to implement the layered OSI network structure, using cnet (http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/cnet/). I'm getting a SIGSEGV error at runtime, however cnet compiles my source code files itself (I can't compile it through gcc) so I can't easily use any debugging tools such as gdb to find the error. • Multiple Cookie Generation Issue

  Hi all, jQuery newbie here. I need to be able to set multiple cookies within the code without have to change out this variable each and every time. Is there any way to make this code generate unique cookies for different pages? As it is now, I'm having to rename that variable for each page that the jQuery animations exist on. (sbbcookiename) Background on the issue: We are having issues with the sliders not autoplaying once one has already been triggered, due to it the cookie having been cached. Thanks for your help. • Core Animation performance on iphone

  I'm trying to do some animations using Core Animation on the iphone. I'm using CABasicAnimation on CALayer. It's a straight forward animation from a random place at the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen at random speed, I have 30 elements that doing the same animation continuously until another action happens. But the performance on the iPhone 3G is very sluggish when the animations start. The image is only 8k. Is this the right approach? After passed to next form, itll me.visible = false. Theres 3 buttons on the Select form which call Customer, Staff and Exit. As i had just start, the button Customer will pass to a MDI menu call Customer Menu with a menu strip button called Quotation. Same, Select will me.visible = false when done. Then a problem occured, i made a Quotation inside the Customer Menu, such as the mdiparent of Quotation is Customer. I expected that the Quotation button will disenable to press after i pressed that button. But i fail to do that.   As My Screen shot show that i am working on word matching game.In this game i assign my words to different UIButtons in Specific sequence on different loctions(my red arrow shows this sequence)and of rest UIButtons i assign a one of random character(A-Z).when i Click on any UIButtons its title will be assign to UILabel which is in Fornt of Current Section:i campare this UILabel text to below UILabels text which is in fornt of timer.when it match to any of my UILabels its will be deleted.i implement all this process already. But my problem is that which is show by black lines.if the player find the first word which is "DOG". he click the Two UIButtons in Sequence,but not press the Third one in Sequence.(as show by black line).so here i want that when player press the any UIButtons which is not in Sequence then remove the previous text(which is "DO") of UILabel and now the Text of UILabel is only "G" . • C++ Undeclared Identifier (but it is declared?)

  I'm pretty sure I've included the qanda class, but when I try to declare a vector that contains it or a class of that type I get an error saying that qanda is undefined. • how to animate 2 surfaces in Matlab?

  Hi everyone, I've written this code which makes an animation of 2 ellipsoids. Parameter k1 of these ellipsoids must depend on time (so they'd move asynchronously), but I need to animate them in one figure. Can I use loop for it or is it better to use timer & some kind of callback functions? The second problem - I need to move inner ellipsoid so they would have one common side. • Generics vs Object performance

  I'm doing practice problems from MCTS Exam 70-536 Microsft .Net Framework Application Dev Foundation, and one of the problems is to create two classes, one generic, one object type that both perform the same thing; in which a loop uses the class and iterated over thousand times. And using the timer, time the performance of both. There was another post at C# generics question that seeks the same questoion but nonone replied. Basically if in my code I run the generic class first it takes loger to process. If I run the object class first than the object class takes longer to process. The whole idea was to prove that generics perform faster. I used the original users code to save me some time. I didn't particularly see anything wrong with the code and was puzzled by the outcome. Can some one explain why the unusual results? • How can I fix this touch event / draw loop "deadlock"?

  Just want to start out by saying this seems like a great site, hope you guys can help! I'm trying to use the structure laid out in LunarLander to create a simple game in which the user can drag some bitmaps around on the screen (the actual game is more complex, but that's not important). I ripped out the irrelevant parts of LanderLander, and set up my own bitmap drawing, something like BoardThread (an inner class of BoardView): run() { while(mRun) { canvas = lockSurfaceHolder... syncronized(mSurfaceHolder) { /* drawStuff using member position fields in BoardView */ } unlockSurfaceHolder } } My drawStuff simply walks through some arrays and throws bitmaps onto the canvas. All that works fine. Then I wanted to start handling touch events so that when the user presses a bitmap, it is selected, when the user unpresses a bitmap, it is deselected, and if a bitmap is selected during a touch move event, the bitmap is dragged. I did this stuff by listening for touch events in the BoardView's parent, BoardActivity, and passing them down into the BoardView. Something like In BoardView handleTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) { synchronized(mSurfaceHolder) { /* Modify shared member fields in BoardView so BoardThread can render the bitmaps */ } } This ALSO works fine. I can drag my tiles around the screen no problem. However, every once in a while, when the app first starts up and I trigger my first touch event, the handleTouchEvent stops executing at the synchronized line (as viewed in DDMS). The drawing loop is active during this time (I can tell because a timer changes onscreen), and it usually takes several seconds or more before a bunch of touch events come through the pipeline and everything is fine again. This doesn't seem like deadlock to me, since the draw loop is constantly going in and out of its syncronized block. Shouldn't this allow the event handling thread to grab a lock on mSurfaceHolder? What's going on here? Anyone have suggestions for improving how I've structured this? Some other info. This "hang" only ever occurs on first touch event after activity start. This includes on orientation change after restoreState has been called. Also, I can remove EVERYTHING within the syncronized block in the event handler, and it will still get hung up at the syncronized call. Thanks!

• How do i convert from milliseconds to seconds units to be shown in a Label?

In the mouse wheel event i did that it will show in the label2 the untis in seconds. And indeed when i move the mouse wheel up its slowing the timer and show it in seconds 1 2 3 4 5 The problem is with the second part i wanted that when its getting to 1 second or 1000 milliseconds if i will keep wheel it down it will show the units in 100 and change the timer1.interval in 100 units. So in label2 if it was on 1 second so now i will see 900 800 700 600 500 un till 100. And also the timer1 interval should be change to 900 milliseconds 800 700 600 untill 100. When its get to 100 just stop there dont keep getting under 100. The problem is with this part: if (timer1.Interval == 1000) { timer1.Interval -= 100; label2.Text = (timer1.Interval / 1000).ToString(); } Its not working at all.
