12.04 Dell GX260 resolution for 82845G/GL will not go greater than 1024x768

I am a newbie to Linux and have installed 12.04 on to an old Dell GX260, I was hoping that I could slowly extract myself from Microsoft - but unless I can fix this simplest of problems I am thinking that this version of Linux is not ready for me yet!! I have read various posts but none seem to match, I believe the driver is installed, but under displays the maximum allowed in the drop down box is 1024x768 (4:3) display is unknown and detect displays does nothing. I have loaded all updates available but still no fix. xrandr shows: VGA1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.3 56.2 848x480 60.0 640x480 59.9 xrandr --addmode VGA1 1360x768 cannot find mode "1360x768" anything above 1024x768 can not be found, but then I could be doing this out of step!!

Noisily rendered text in Firefox

It came to me in a week or so that certain pages (Facebook, StrackOverflow, some news sites) have text rendering errors in Firefox. As a workaround if I refresh the page, or simply select and deselect the buggy text, the unpleasant effect disappears. I don't have this effect in Internet Explorer or in any of my desktop applications. Windows 7 Pro 64bit (fresh) Firefox 19.0.2 (fresh) Ati Radeon HD 4600 Series (fresh drivers) Thanks for the help in advance! Update 1/2 I have only three addons: Forecastfox, Hungarian spell checking dictionary and Quick locale switcher. The latter two are installed after the effect appeared. I disabled the first individually and did not helped. But if I start my firefox with disabled addons I cannot reproduce the error. As far as I know this mode does not mean disabled plugins, which I do have (Adobe Acrobat, Citrix ICA Client, Google Earth plugin, Google update, Java Deployment Toolkit 6, MS Office 2010, MS Windows Media Player Firefox, Shockwave Flash, Silverlight, VLC Web). Update 2/2 If I disable all plugins and extensions I still have the problem. If I start Firefox with disabled addons then I cannot reproduce the problem.

Open a popup window from Silverlight

Silverlight has a method called HtmlPage.PopupWindow() that opens new web browser window with a specific page. You can find this method in the namespace System.Windows.Browser. If you haven’t in your project, add a reference to System.Windows.Browser. The method HtmlPage.PopupWindow() has three parameters: Uri – location to browse String – the target window HtmlPopupWindowOptions – a class with the window options (full list of properties http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.browser.htmlpopupwindowoptions(v=vs.95).aspx) For a security reason of Silverlight the call to HtmlPage.PopupWindow() is allowed through any user input like a button, hyperlink, etc. The code is very simple: var options = new HtmlPopupWindowOptions {Left = 0, Top = 0, Width = 800, Height = 600}; if (HtmlPage.IsPopupWindowAllowed) HtmlPage.PopupWindow(new Uri("http://geekswithblogs.net/"), "new", options); The property IsPopupWindowAllowed is used to check whether the window is enabled to open popup.

I have reinstalled 12.04 and there is no dual boot option

Tonight, I have reinstalled Ubuntu 12.4on Win XP pro machine for a 3rd time. (Uninstalled in between.) Oddly enough, this machine had a dual boot between xp pro & ubuntu for several months before we decided to reinstall everything (because of windows). Have you had any problems with the reboot on XP Pro SP3 with all updates & microsoft essentials? I am not getting a choice of which operating system to boot into, it just boots into windows & does not acknowledge ubuntu!

Is it normal to feel bad when someone insults a programming language? [closed]

Few examples before the question: "A language is just a tool; Better to worry only about the concept." "C++ is just an object oriented language." "Java is more about the libraries and less about programming." "C# is just a Microsoft's version of Java with some extra things from C++." "Python is a scripting language used mainly for testing purpose." ... All these statements are made knowingly or unknowingly from my colleagues/friends and I often get to hear them. I feel bad when someone brings down any programming language. I don't know how to respond. Is there any one liner to enlighten those people?

SharePoint 2010: Architecture and Planning information

Recently I have been delivering Design and Planning Sessions at client sites, and as of recent SharePoint 2010 has been part of that mix. After the activity that goes on during those sessions getting towards the end of them is always a cross roads for clients. Why? Because it is time to kick the wheels. Remind them, and remember, this is not a 1 or 4 weeks ordeal. This has to be very well planned. Exchange Full Access issue

I was just hired as a System Admin for a small company. They use Exchange 2010 for their Mail Server. I've never had a permission issue like this with Exchange because I worked for a larger firm with less responsibility before. Their old system admin is LONG GONE, so I can't ask him what he did. The issue: Right now ANYONE can gain access to a mailbox and view the mail in the mailbox. This is disabled by default you say and you have to grant them full access ? You are right, but the old System Admin I guess didn't know what he was doing. SO right now user A can open up user B mailbox with out being granted permission. So here is what I found out. Every user in EMC Full Access Permission has Exchange Server group granted. Within the Exchange Server Group, Domain User's is a Member Of. Within Domain User's all user's are listed as Members. So my guess is because of this all users can access ANY mailbox? Well GOOD News. The company is small (35 people) and they are not computer savvy, so hopefully no one has figured out they can open anyone's mailbox.(From what I can tell no). Next thing I did was with my domain user in EMC, delete Exchange Servers Group in FUll Access Permissions and grant access to my user. I made sure that my memeber was apart of the Exchange Server Group. Went to our OWA site and now I don't have permission to my own mailbox. Re did everything to the way it was with my user and now I'm stuck. Any help? I would think granting a single user that is in the Exchange Server group, Full Access to that mailbox would enable them to open that mailbox???? I guess I am wrong.

Using XNA libraries in your Silverlight Windows Phone 7 applications

I recently got an inquiry to my Microsoft Translator sample on if this would work with the Silverlight in the Windows Phone 7 SDK. I hadnt tried it before, so I created a sample Windows Phone 7 application and copied the code over. I used a basic UI to mock up the similarities: And then clicked the button. The text translated fine, but no audio. I didnt get any warnings that the WaveMSS code sample I was using wouldnt work. Then I remembered about XNA. Big and reaaaally strange problem with a web server (host InMotion Hosting)

Hi. I have a terrible problem that I have tried to solve since three days ago: I browse my own web site and after a while I cannot access the web site. AT ALL! I can only see a 501 error message: "Method Not Implemented. GET to / not supported. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." Once I get that error the site is totally and permanently inaccessible in that browser!! Reboot, browser restarts, clear cache, clear all history and cookies, etc., are not working. I have reproduced it in 4 different computers. Three computers are in one city, the 4th is in another city. Two different ISP's also. One computer is Linux, the others are on Windows (XP and 2000). Browsers are FF 3 to FF3.5 and IE 8. The error is ALMOST reproducible on demand (for me at least). It appears when I browse the forum under certain circumstances. I don't know which are these circumstances, but if I browse it long enough (10 sec to 5 minutes) it eventually appears. Just to make it clear, once the error appears (while browsing the forum) then the whole web site become inaccessible, not only the forum! My host is not willing to help because they say they cannot reproduce the error. I sent screenoshots but they don't care. NEWS Reseting browser's settings from the 'Tools-Clear private data' din't worked. However! When I have cleared the same settings (more exaclty) cookies from the special menu that appears when you right click website's icon, it worked. So it was something related to a cookie BUT it manifests in all browsers (FF, IE, Opera). So it cannot be a browser related problem.

I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note II on android 4.1. It was my idea to try to turn it into a pc and I bought a micro-keyboard for the same purpose. I had hoped there would be an app for OpenOffice, but there isn't. Now i see that ubuntu may be installed on smart phones. I already have ubuntu - including OpenOffice - on my laptop. My question is: is it possible to install ubuntu to galaxy note II, and if so, does it include office programs and other ubuntu programs? I'm a Microsoft Stack(ASP.NET, C#) developer. Mainly, I develop server side software, windows services, restful apis etc. My client side interaction is really really low. So aside from C# I want to learn a new language. Time is precious and I want to give my focus to a language which have a future. My language list is: Scala (Powerful usage in Twitter) Go (Getting popular and channels are pretty awesome) Erlang (Stable server side programs. Used at Whatsapp) You can give advice for the above or you can give me a better option. My only exception is Objective-C. I don't want to get in that one. Thanks
