WordPress issues with htaccess causing 500 server error

I have a few customers of my custom wordpress theme that are reporting that their sites have went down over the past few weeks due to a 500 internal server error. In each case, it appears that the htaccess file has been to blame. In one case, the user's hosting company found a "_pvt/service.pwd" line in there that was apparently causing the problem. In another instance, the hosting company indicated that a chron job appeared to be causing the issue and sent the user the following as evidence... root@cherry [/home/login/public_html]# stat .htaccess File: `.htaccess.orig' Size: 587 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 811h/2065d Inode: 590021607 Links: 1 Access: (0644/-rw-r--r--) Uid: ( 2234/login) Gid: ( 2231/login) Access: 2010-03-07 16:42:01.000000000 -0600 Modify: 2010-03-26 09:15:15.000000000 -0500 Change: 2010-03-26 09:45:05.000000000 -0500 In yet another instance, the user reported this as the cause... The permissions on my .index file somehow got changed to 777 instead of 644 I'm just seeking to help these users understand what's going on, the likely cause and how to prevent it. I also want to eliminate my theme as a potential contributing factor. I have two areas in which I want to submit here to make sure that they are not likely to cause such an issue. They are my permalink rewrite code as well as my upgrade script (which sets 755 on the destination folder (my theme folder). Hi iam trying to load a few external jpegs in As3. It works fine locally in Flash, but it dosen't work at all ion my server. I'm trying to build simple file browser and i'm stuck. I defined classes, build window, add controllers, views.. Everything works but only ONE time. jQuery code not working in Google Chrome...

Hi, I have writen a simple jQuery code to control ajax tabs navigation.. Its working in good on FireFox but in Chrome it working in one page but not in the home page I don't know why... Having different database sorting order (default_scope) for two different views

In my model (pins.rb), I have two sorting orders: default_scope order: 'pins.featured DESC' #for adding featured posts to the top of a list default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' #for adding the remaining posts beneath the featured posts This sorting order (above) is how I want my 'pins view' (index.html.erb) to look. Which is just a list of ALL user posts. In my 'users view' (show.html.erb) I am using the same model (pins.rb) to list only current_user pins. HOWEVER, I want to sorting order to ignore the "featured" default scope and only use the second scope: default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' How can I accomplish this? I tried doing something like this: default_scope order: 'pins.featured DESC', only: :index default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' But that didn't fly... PHP Ajax not working

I have 3 buttons on my page and depending on which one the user is clickingi want to run through ajax call a delete query in my database. When the user clicks on a button the javascript function seems to work but it doesn't run the query in php script. I am trying to create a jsf application which, upon page refresh increments the hit counter and generates two random numbers. What should be displayed on the window may look something like this: On your On your roll x you have thrown x and x For this program I decided to create two Beans, one to hold the page refresh counter and one to generate a random number. expanding/collapsing div using jQuery

I'm trying to expand and collapse a <div> by clicking some text inside the <div>. The behavior right now is very odd. For example, if I click the text after the <div> is expanded... the <div> will collapse and then expand again. Also, if I click somewhere inside the div after it is expanded, it will collapse again, and I think that is because I'm triggering the animation since the <div> being animated is inside the wrapper <div>. Weird GWT issue causing IE threads to skyrocket.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with GWT, JavaScript, Java, IE or just poor programming, but I'll try to explain. We're implementing web based chat program at work and some of our users have unreliable connections. So we're running into issues where they send out a new message and after x number of milliseconds have passed, the XHR request timesout and the client tries to resend the message again. The issue we ran into was sometimes the message would make it to the server and into the DB, but the XHR request wouldn't make it back to the client so the client was essentially retrying requests that had alread made it to the server. To mitigate this issue, we now send along a count/key with the message. The client says, hey I'm sending msg 50 and it's text is this. If the server already has that message, it just sends back "ok, I got it" and doens't insert into the DB again, eliminating dupes. So the client is free to keep retrying over and over until finally a call comes back from the server saying "Ok, I got it" and then it increments the key and moves on (or we keep them out of the chat if it fails enough). Anyway, so that's the background of what we're doing. The issue is, when we add this code on some versions of IE the threads start increasing gradually everytime it's accessed. On IE8 for Windows7 x64 it doesn't really seem to do it, but on IE8 for Windows Vista x86 it does. So I can't really pinpoint if it's a fluke or my code. Maybe someone had some ideas on a better way to do this. Here is some pseudo code: (the issue seems appear where I increment messageCount? complex css image centering help?

My problem is a bit more complex than the title says. Sorry, I don't know how to be more specific... I'm working on a website and I came across a part where I should display some thumbnails. The thing is, the thumbnails are not matching in dimensions. (I know, it sounds ridiculous, since this is thumbnails are for, right?) No, there is simply NO WAY to create them in the same dimensions!! I've managed to create a HTML+CSS structure to fix this problem, and the images are not stretching to fit their containers if they are smaller while keeping their aspect ratio. The only issue remaining, is to center the images. Since setting margin to "0 auto" or "auto 0" are not helping, I've tried setting up multiple containers and setting the margins to position the images. This is also not working: if I put a 120x120 picture in a 120x80 inner container, and I set the container's top and left margin to -50%, the margins become -60px both. Can this be fixed? Or is there yet another way to center images? I'm open to any suggestions! C - Error with read() of a file, storage in an array, and printing output properly

I am new to C, so I am not exactly sure where my error is. However, I do know that the great portion of the issue lies either in how I am storing the doubles in the d_buffer (double) array or the way I am printing it. Specifically, my output keeps printing extremely large numbers (with around 10-12 digits before the decimal point and a trail of zeros after it. Additionally, this is an adaptation of an older program to allow for double inputs, so I only really added the two if statements (in the "read" for loop and the "printf" for loop) and the d_buffer declaration. Struts 1 ActionForm - retrieving a collection from pure HTML

Hi all I have (just like the rest) inherited some struts 1 code. I have had need to add a few more pages to this project. What I cannot figure out is how to map several distinct but similarly natured input elements to the my ActionForm. Let me elaborate. android Emulator always stop at "waiting for Home..."

hi,there, I freshed install Eclipse, jdk, android sdk 1.5 in winxp. but when I run the "hello world" app, the emulator always stop at "andorid" loading message. In eclipse console, it shows "waiting for HOME..." and in DDMS LogCat, it shows following msg: there are some error and warning. So, what's wrong with my case? Why are pieces of my HTML showing up on the page and breaking it? Is it PHP related?

I've been building a site in PHP, HTML, CSS, and using a healthy dose of jQuery javascript. The site looks absolutely fine on my Mac browsers, but for some reason, when my client uses PC Safari, she's seeing strange bits of my HTML show up on the page. Here are some (small) screenshot examples: Figure 1: This one is just a closing </li> tag that should've been on the Media li element. Not much harm done, but strange. Figure 2: Here this was part of <div class='submenu'> and since the div tag didn't render properly, the entire contents of that div don't get styled correctly by CSS. Figure 3: This last example shows what should have been <a class='top current' href=... but for some reason half of the HTML tag stops being rendered and just gets printed out. So the rest of that list menu is completely broken. Here's the code from the header.php file itself. .NET WebRequest.PreAuthenticate not quite what it sounds like

I’ve run into the problem a few times now: How to pre-authenticate .NET WebRequest calls doing an HTTP call to the server – essentially send authentication credentials on the very first request instead of waiting for a server challenge first? At first glance this sound like it should be easy: The .NET WebRequest object has a PreAuthenticate property which sounds like it should force authentication credentials to be sent on the first request. Looking at the MSDN example certainly looks like it does: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.webrequest.preauthenticate.aspx Unfortunately the MSDN sample is wrong. As is the text of the Help topic which incorrectly leads you to believe that PreAuthenticate… wait for it - pre-authenticates. But it doesn’t allow you to set credentials that are sent on the first request. What this property actually does is quite different. It doesn’t send credentials on the first request but rather caches the credentials ONCE you have already authenticated once. Http Authentication is based on a challenge response mechanism typically where the client sends a request and the server responds with a 401 header requesting authentication. Now if you use WebRequest (or WebClient) the default behavior is to re-authenticate on every request that requires authorization. This means if you look in Fiddler or some other HTTP client Proxy that captures requests you’ll see that each request re-authenticates: Here are two requests fired back to back: and you can see the 401 challenge, the 200 response for both requests. If you watch this same conversation between a browser and a server you’ll notice that the first 401 is also there but the subsequent 401 requests are not present. WebRequest.PreAuthenticate And this is precisely what the WebRequest.PreAuthenticate property does: It’s a caching mechanism that caches the connection credentials for a given domain in the active process and resends it on subsequent requests. This is quite useful as it saves quite a few round trips to the server – bascially it saves one auth request request for every authenticated request you make. In most scenarios I think you’d want to send these credentials this way but one downside to this is that there’s no way to log out the client. Since the client always sends the credentials once authenticated only an explicit operation ON THE SERVER can undo the credentials by forcing another login explicitly (ie. re-challenging with a forced 401 request). Forcing Basic Authentication Credentials on the first Request On a few occasions I’ve needed to send credentials on a first request – mainly to some oddball third party Web Services (why you’d want to use Basic Auth on a Web Service is beyond me – don’t ask but it’s not uncommon in my experience). This is true of certain services that are using Basic Authentication (especially some Apache based Web Services) and REQUIRE that the authentication is sent right from the first request. No challenge first. Ugly but there it is. Now the following works only with Basic Authentication because it’s pretty straight forward to create the Basic Authorization ‘token’ in code since it’s just an unencrypted encoding of the user name and password into base64. As you might guess this is totally unsecure and should only be used when using HTTPS/SSL connections (i’m not in this example so I can capture the Fiddler trace and my local machine doesn’t have a cert installed, but for production apps ALWAYS use SSL with basic auth). However, this only works with Basic Auth because you can actually create the authentication credentials easily on the client because it’s essentially clear text. The same doesn’t work for Windows or Digest authentication since you can’t easily create the authentication token on the client and send it to the server. Another issue with this approach is that PreAuthenticate has no effect when you manually force the authentication. As far as Web Request is concerned it never sent the authentication information so it’s not actually caching the value any longer. In effect you’ll end up with one extra 401 request in this scenario, which is still better than 401 challenges on each request. Getting Access to WebRequest in Classic .NET Web Service Clients If you’re running a classic .NET Web Service client (non-WCF) one issue with the above is how do you get access to the WebRequest to actually add the custom headers to do the custom Authentication described above? In code you can then call AddHttpHeader() anywhere to add additional headers which are sent as part of the GetWebRequest override. Nice and simple once you know where to hook it. For WCF there’s a bit more work involved by creating a message extension as described here: http://weblogs.asp.net/avnerk/archive/2006/04/26/Adding-custom-headers-to-every-WCF-call-_2D00_-a-solution.aspx. FWIW, I think that HTTP header manipulation should be readily available on any HTTP based Web Service client DIRECTLY without having to subclass or implement a special interface hook. But alas a little extra work is required in .NET to make this happen Not a Common Problem, but when it happens… This has been one of those issues that is really rare, but it’s bitten me on several occasions when dealing with oddball Web services – a couple of times in my own work interacting with various Web Services and a few times on customer projects that required interaction with credentials-first services. Since the servers determine the protocol, we don’t have a choice but to follow the protocol.
