  • How to ACTUALLY install Java on Linux?

    I have a Ubuntu Server. From the terminal, how should I install JDK? In this guide it says to use this command: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-jdk But on Suns website, it says JDK includes the JRE, so why the JRE in the line above? Anybody know how to actually install Java? Every guide and every forum shows different ways of doing it. BTW: It is a VPS (virtual private server) Thanks

    I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to to discuss this issue but I am a Magento developer and ever since they announced they were going to build magento as a PAAS platform, I began to not trust where they are trying to go with the company. As a business I respect where they are trying to go as a company, but as a developer who highly depends on their platform for my business, I feel that they will eventually become a player in their own game. Ebay has announced that they will be acquiring the license to the magento platform and this makes you wonder why a company like eBay would want to do such a thing. Ebay is known for their pre-built stores. it would seem they would only team with magento only to utilize their PAAS web stores. I dunno, maybe I am a little confused about the whole situation. that's why i would like to hear everyone else opinion.

  • Substiting a line through PHP in SSH

    I've already setup SSH usage in PHP and most of the things work. Now what I want to do is that I'm looking to edit a line in a file and replace it back. It works directly on the server but can't seem to get it working with PHP files. Here is what I'm trying. $new_line1 = 'Line $I want to add - The $I has to go into the file as it is'; $new_line2 = 'Ending $text of the line - $text again goes into file; $query = "Addition to line"; $exec1= 'cd /root; perl -pe "s/.*/' ; $exec2= '/ if $. == 37" Edit.sh > Edited.sh'; $new="$exec1$new_line1$query$new_line2$exec2"; $edit="cd /root/mp; cp Edited.sh Edit.sh"; echo $ssh->exec($new); echo $ssh->exec($edit); Now the thing is that running the perl command directly in SSH works without any errors but when I run this through PHP I get the error: Substitution replacement not terminated at -e line 1. I want to know why would it work this way and not that?

  • PHP cannot connect to MySQL

    Hello, I recently installed Apache 2 + PHP 5.3.1 + MySQL 5.1.44 on my Windows 7 64bit machine following this guide: http://sleeplessgeek.blogspot.com/2010/01/setting-up-apache-php-mysql-phpmyadmin.html It all went fine, php is working great (even with XDebug) but I cannot connect to mysql server. A simple script I wrote to test connection (yes, root has no pass): $username = "root"; $password = ""; $database = "test"; $hostname = "localhost"; $conn = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password) or die("Unable to connect to MySQL Database!!"); It prints this error after 60sec of timeout: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. I can connect to mysql using cmdmysql -h localhost -u root Services are working properly. There also seems to be a problem with PhpMyAdmin (using 3.2.5). As soon as I type user and pass the page loads and turns blank (content-lenght in headers is 0 but status code is 302 Found). Looks like something wrong with cookies (my auth method). I hope someone has a clue, it has to be something dumb simple I missed. Thanks in advance.

    I recently looked at my router log. Why are a lot of requests that I don't send originated from a computer in my home network? They do not look like 3rd-party advertisements / images embedded in a page.   • What is the correct dependency rpm for libcurl.so.3

    So I have a failed dependency and I am having trouble downloading the correct rpm. The error is libcurl.so.3()(64bit) is needed. I have Centos 6 and I have looking in this site for the correct rpm. The problem though is, and this is another place where linux fails in being intuitive, is that the rpm name is different than the dependency name. So it might be a curl3 rpm or a libcurl3 rpm or I have no idea. Anyone know which one it is?

    I used to have a VPS (512MB) from Linode and I was running nginx + php5-fpm (which comes with php5.3.3) on Debian Lenny (i686). The total memory usage was about 90-100MB. Now I have another VPS (different hosting company) and I also run nginx + php5-fpm on Debian Lenny (x86_64). The system is 64-bit, so the memory usage is higher now, about 210-230MB, which I think is too much.     i have dedicated server with very good configuation like 16 gb ram etc but i am facing heavy load from mysql however only one database is running and 5-10 pages are only running. However whm load is always less than one but when i click on whm load it shows 20% of cpu usage by mysql and after some time it starts saying can not connect to mysql . mysql server has gone away 1691 (Trace) (Kill) mysql 0 19.2 2.7 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/ --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --log- error=/var/lib/mysql/server.xyz.com.err --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/server.xyz.com.pid i have tested static pages they are coming blezing fast but all dynamic pages which are using mysql is coming damn slow it takes years to open.. ihave checked log error file it says nothing.i have increased maximum connnection also to 1000 but still same problem is there .if i disconnect that one databasejust by changing the name of database i can see withing half hour the load of server and mysql goes down to negliglble .i have tested everything and if there are some query which can cause heavy load to server can you please list which type of query can cause heavy load on server then also for 5-10 pages it will never cause that much heavy load. i have seen server with 500 websites but was working just fine.

  • Mounted HDD not having enough permissions from Apache/PHP

    Piwigo gallery, on apache and php, CentOS 6. The root system is a RAID 128GB. /var/www/html is on the root file system. Mounted the 320GB hdd to /var/www/html/320 using defaults, it's an ext4 fs. Put a symlink to it in /var/www/html/galleries which is read by the gallery script so I can upload images to there, then click sync. It gives me the error: [./galleries/] PWG-ERROR-NO-FS (File/directory read error) PWG-ERROR-NO-FS: The file or directory cannot be accessed (either it does not exist or the access is denied) chmod 777 set on /dev/sdb1, /var/www/html, and /var/www/html/320 as well as the symlink galleries too. All recursive. chown apache:apache to everything too. PHP just can't read/write to it. I tried with and without the symlink, I've tried everything I can think of. Nothing. Any ideas how I can give apache/php permission to read/write to this drive? With 777 permissions all around it should already be able to.

  • What would cause Memcached to Hang for 2+ seconds?

    I'm going nuts trying to scale memcached. From their site: Memcached operations are almost all O(1). Connecting to it and issuing a get or stat command should never lag. If connecting lags, you may be hitting the max connections limit. See ServerMaint for details on stats to monitor. If issuing commands lags, you can have a number of tuning problems. Most common are hardware problems, not enough RAM (swapping), network problems (bandwidth, dropped packets, half-duplex connections). On rare occasion OS bugs or memcached bugs can contribute. Well.. it is most certainly not performing like an O(1) operation for me. Under low to normal load on our site memcached response times for get and set ops are about 0.001 seconds. Not bad. But if we triple the load we get outliers that take 100x (or in rare cases 1000x!) that long. I even had one instance where it took 2.2442 seconds for memcached to store a value. Obviously this is killing our site. It only appears to be using about 7MB of data as per the bytes stat. How would I diagnose the other hardware problems? prstat doesn't really show a whole lot going on in terms of CPU or memory usage. Not sure how to figure out the network problems but as this is a dedicated server on the same private network as the web box I don't think it's a connectivity issue (ping is less than a millisecond between the boxes). Is there something else I'm missing here? It's driving me nuts. Edit: Also forgot to mention that I've tried both persistent and non-persistent connections with minimal-to-no impact.
