  • Django 'ImproperlyConfigured' error after deployment on google app engine

    Hello, I'm currently trying to get my first django project running on Google App Engine. I followed the instructions given here http://www.allbuttonspressed.com/projects/djangoappengine as best I could. Unfortunately I have run into some issues. Locally everything runs fine, no problems. I then tried to deploy my project to the cloud. This is where I'm totally stuck. I always receive 500 Server Errors coupled with google.appengine.runtime.DeadlineExceededError's. Every now and then I get the following error message in my logs, which I think is the root of the problem : <class 'django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured'>: ImportError projectyalanda.pricecompare: No module named projectyalanda.pricecompare Obviously something is wrong in the way I reference my django app. Why this is only an issue in the cloud is a mystery to me. The interesting part in the settings.py file is setup as following: INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'djangotoolbox', # 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'projectyalanda.pricecompare', ) I absolutely can't figure out why django/appengine wouldn't be able to find the module, especially since everything works perfectly locally. So where else can I look? The local folder structure is of course also correct as automatically done by django, so maybe something is messed up during deployment? How would I be able to find out? Please help me ;-) Thanks

  • What's the best practice to setup testing for ASP.Net MVC? What to use/process/etc?

    hi there, i'm trying to learn how to properly setup testing for an ASP.Net MVC. and from what i've been reading here and there thus far, the definition of legacy code kind of piques my interests, where it mentions that legacy codes are any codes without unit tests. so i did my project in a hurry not having the time to properly setup unit tests for the app and i'm still learning how to properly do TDD and unit testing at the same time. then i came upon selenium IDE/RC and was using it to test on the browser end. it was during that time too that i came upon the concept of integration testing, so from my understanding it seems that unit testing should be done to define the test and basic assumptions of each function, and if the function is dependent on something else, that something else needs to be mocked so that the tests is always singular and can be run fast. Questions: so am i right to say that the project should have started with unit test with proper mocks using something like rhino mocks. then anything else which requires 3rd party dll, database data access etc to be done via integration testing using selenium? because i have a function which calls a third party dll, i'm not sure whether to write a unit test in nunit to just instantiate the object and pass it some dummy data which breaks the mocking part to test it or just cover that part in my selenium integration testing when i submit my forms and call the dll. and for user acceptance tests, is it safe to say we can just use selenium again? Am i missing something or is there a better way/framework? i'm trying to put in more tests for regression testing, and to ensure that nothing breaks when we put in new features. i also like the idea of TDD because it helps to better define the function, sort of like a meta documentation. thanks!! hope this question isn't too subjective because i need it for my case.

    I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I've exhausted all of my ideas trying to figure this out, so I figured I'd send this out to the community and see what you thought. And, if it's not possible, maybe you'd have some ideas as well. I'm trying to make an Attribute class that I can add to a method that would allow me to use a lambda expression to get each parameter of the method public ExampleAttribute : Attribute { public object Value { get; set; } public ExampleAttribute(--something here to make the lambda work--, object value) { Value = value; } } I'd like to be able to something like this below: [Example(x=x.Id, 4)] [Example(x=x.filter, "string value")] public ActionResult Index(int Id, string filter) { return View(); } I understand that I might be completely dreaming with this idea. I'm basically trying to write a model to allow for self-documenting REST API Documentation. In a recent project here at work we wrote a dozen or so services with 5 to 15 methods on each, I figure it's easier to write something to do this, than to hand code a documentation page for each. I would plan to eventually release this as an open-source project once I have it in a place that I feel it's releasable.

  • How to split xml to header and items using smooks?

    I have a xml file roughly like this: <batch> <header> <headerStuff /> </header> <contents> <timestamp /> <invoices> <invoice> <invoiceStuff /> </invoice> <!-- Insert 1000 invoice elements here --> </invoices> </contents> </batch> I would like to split that file to 1000 files with the same headerStuff and only one invoice. Smooks documentation is very proud of the possibilities of transformations, but unfortunately I don't want to do those. The only way I've figured how to do this is to repeat the whole structure in freemarker. But that feels like repeating the structure unnecessarily. The header has like 30 different tags so there would be lots of work involved also.     I’m trying to model a relationship in ActiveRecord and I think it’s a little beyond my skill level. Here’s the background. This is a horse racing project and I’m trying to model a horses Connections over time. Connections are defined as the Horse’s Current: Owner, Trainer and Jockey. Over time, a horse’s connections can change for a lot of different reasons: The owner sells the horse in a private sale The horse is claimed (purchase in a public sale) The Trainer switches jockeys The owner switches trainers In my first attempt at modeling this, I created the following tables: Horses, Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Connections. Essentially, the Connections table was the has-many-through join table and was structured as follows: Connections Table 1 Id Horse_id Owner_id Trainer_id Jockey_id Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code The Horse, Owner, Trainer and Jockey foreign keys are self explanatory. The status code is 1 or 0 (1 active, 0 inactive) and the status date is the date the status changed. Change_code is and integer or string value that represent the reason for the change (private sale, claim, jockey change, etc) The key benefit of this approach is that the Connection is represented as one record in the connections table. The downside is that I have to have a table for Owner (1), Trainer (2) and Jockey (3) when one table could due. In my second attempt at modeling this I created the following tables: Horses, Connections, Entities The Entities tables has the following structure Entities Table id First_name Last_name Role where Role represents if the entity is a Owner, Trainer or Jockey. Under this approach, my Connections table has the following structure Connections Table 2 id Horse_id Entity_id Role Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code 1 1 1 1 1 1/1/2010 2 1 4 2 1 1/1/2010 3 1 10 3 1 1/1/2010 This approach has the benefit of eliminating two tables, but on the other hand the Connection is now comprised of three different records as opposed to one in the first approach. What believe I’m looking for is an approach that allows me to capture the Connection in one record, but also uses an Entities table with roles instead of the Owner, Trainer and Jockey tables. I’m new to ActiveRecord and rails so any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps there are other ways that would even be better. Thanks!

  • Cygwin Cruisecontrol cannot execute commands

    I'm having what I hope to be a simple problem. However, it's had me stumped all day. I'm working with cruisecontrol in windows, being set up through Cygwin. I have some CC experience in the linux platform and much of what I'm doing is very similar. However, most any command I try to execute in the config.xml file's Schedule section is giving an error. Here's the exception: ExecBuilder - Could not execute command: /cygdrive/d/Program\ Files/Subversion/bin/svn net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.CruiseControlException: Encountered an IO exception while attempting to execute 'net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.builders.ExecScript@b80f1c'. CruiseControl cannot continue. at net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.builders.ScriptRunner.runScript(ScriptRunner.java:133) Here are some examples of commands I've tried to run which give this type of error. <exec command="${CCLoc}/projects/${project.name}/IOSdllScript"/> -Runs a script that I tested outside of the cruisecontrol.bat and it runs. Includes #!/bin/sh as the first line <exec command="${CCLoc}/projects/${project.name}/EmptyFile"/> -Essentially an empty text file, proving that the problem had nothing to do with my script. <exec command="/cygdrive/d/Program\ Files/Subversion/bin/svn" args="cleanup" workingdir="${svndir}"/> -Trys svn cleanup on a directory. I double checked the pathing and spelling. One command that I tested worked and didn't give this error. That command was touch. <exec command="touch" args="ABC.txt"/> I'm not sure why only touch seems to work and nothing else does. Thank you for your help.

I descided to change the user structure - I add an array of Warehouse object. Since that time, when UserResolver.Current executed (after Login), HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated was false and I couldn't get the user data. When I removed the Warehouse[] from user structure, it starts to be ok again and HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated become true after I Login. What is the reason to this weird behaviour?

In lambda way for example ? I just eager for knowledge :)

    This is my first project with Core Data, I followed the Event tutorial provided by Apple that helped me to understand the basic of core data in iPhone. But now, working over my project, I've a problem adding data into my database. When i create an object and set the data, if I try to get it back, the system returns me a strange sequence of characters.     Hi everyone, I have a Windows executable (native, not .Net) project that I'm trying to pass along to a new team member. It's a graphics modeling tool that uses the Qt widget library and OpenGL.   • Objective-C: How to access methods in other classes

    I have what I know is a simple question, but after many searches in books and on the Internet, I can't seem to come up with a solution. I have a standard iPhone project that contains, among other things, a ViewController. My app works just fine at this point. I now want to create a generic class (extending NSObject) that will have some basic utility methods. Let's call this class Util.m (along with the associated .h file). I create the Util class (and .h file) in my project, and now I want to access the methods contained in that class class from my ViewController. Here's an example of a simple version of Util.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface Util : NSObject { } - (void)myMethod; @end Then the Util.m file would look something like this: #import "Util.h" @implementation Util - (void)myMethod { NSLog(@"myMethod Called"); } @end Now that my Util class is created, I want to call the "myMethod" method from my ViewController. In my ViewController's .h file, I do the following: #import "Util.h" @interface MyViewController : UIViewController { Util *utils; } @property (assign) Util *utils; @end Finally, in the ViewController.m, I do the following: #import "Util.h" @implementation MyViewController @synthesize utils; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; utils.myMethod; //this doesn't work [utils myMethod]; //this doesn't work either NSLog(@"utils = %@", utils); //in the console, this prints "utils = (null)" } What am I doing wrong? I'd like to not only be able to directly reference other classes/methods in a simple util class like this, but I'd also like to directly reference other ViewControllers and their properties and methods as well. I'm stumped! Please Help.

  • Is the Windows dev environment worth the cost?

    I recently made the move from Linux development to Windows development. And as much of a Linux enthusiast that I am, I have to say - C# is a beautiful language, Visual Studio is terrific, and now that I've bought myself a trackball my wrist has stopped hurting from using the mouse so much. But there's one thing I can't get past: the cost. Windows 7, Visual Studio, SQL Server, Expression Blend, ViEmu, Telerik, MSDN - we're talking thousands for each developer on the project! You're definitely getting something for your money - my question is, is it worth it? [Not every developer needs all the aforementioned tools - but have you ever heard of anyone writing C# code without Visual Studio? I've worked on pretty large software projects in Linux without having to pay for any development tool whatsoever.] Now obviously, if you're already a Windows shop, it doesn't pay to retrain all your developers. And if you're looking to develop a Windows desktop app, you just can't do that in Linux. But if you were starting a new web application project and could hire developers who are experts in whatever languages you want, would you still choose Windows as your development platform despite the high cost? And if yes, why?

    How do you use Twitter Bootstrap to create a table-like list structure, where some columns take as much space as required to accommodate the widest element of that column, and a single column takes the remaining space? For example Id |Name |Email address 100001|Joe |[email protected] 100 |Christine|[email protected] 1001 |John |[email protected] the Id column takes just enough space to accommodate the 100001 id which is the longest id, and the Name column takes just enough space to accommodate the name Christine. The Email column takes the remaining space.
