  • How to capture SQL with parameters substituted in? (.NET, SqlCommand)

    - by Bryan
Hello, If there an easy way to get a completed SQL statement back after parameter substitution? I.e., I want to keep a logfile of all the SQL this program runs. Or if I want to do this, will I just want to get rid of Parameters, and do the whole query the old school way, in one big string? Simple Example: I want to capture the output: SELECT subcatId FROM EnrollmentSubCategory WHERE catid = 1 .. from this code: Dim subCatSQL As String = "SELECT subcatId FROM EnrollmentSubCategory WHERE catid = @catId" Dim connectionString As String = "X" Dim conn As New SqlConnection(connectionString) If conn.State = ConnectionState.Closed Then conn.Open() End If Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(subCatSQL, conn) With cmd .Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@catId", SqlDbType.Int, 1)) End With Console.WriteLine("Before: " + cmd.CommandText) cmd.Prepare() Console.WriteLine("After: " + cmd.CommandText) I had assumed Prepare() would do the substitutions, but apparently not. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.

  • getting data problem with MYSQL under linux

    - by aelshereay
Hi all, Recently I started to use Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) instead of windows. I am working on a java web application with Spring, MYSQL with jpa. However, before to install linux I made a backup file from the database, then installed linux, installed the MYSQL Query Browser and Administrator tools, and using the Admin tool restored the backup file, then got all the tables and made a simple select statement from one of the tables and got result normally and everything seems to work just fine. There a USER table, and there's a namedQuery defined to get a user by userName, the problem is that when I pass a correct userName I still get nothing! I really don't know what is the problem! The application was working perfectly under windows! Please, can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

  • Why is sql server giving a conversion error when submitting date.today to a datetime column?

    - by kpierce8
I am getting a conversion error every time I try to submit a date value to sql server. The column in sql server is a datetime and in vb I'm using Date.today to pass to my parameterized query. I keep getting a sql exception Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string. Here's the code Public Sub ResetOrder(ByVal connectionString As String) Dim strSQL As String Dim cn As New SqlConnection(connectionString) cn.Open() strSQL = "DELETE Tasks WHERE ProjID = @ProjectID" Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(strSQL, cn) cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("ProjectID", 5) cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() strSQL = "INSERT INTO Tasks (ProjID, DueDate, TaskName) VALUES " & _ " (@ProjID, @TaskName, @DueDate)" Dim cmd2 As New SqlCommand(strSQL, cn) cmd2.CommandText = strSQL cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("ProjID", 5) cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("DueDate", Date.Today) cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("TaskName", "bob") cmd2.ExecuteNonQuery() cn.Close() DataGridView1.DataSource = ds.Projects DataGridView2.DataSource = ds.Tasks End Sub Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to calculate real-time stats?

    - by Diego Jancic
I have a site with millions of users (well, actually it doesn't have any yet, but let's imagine), and I want to calculate some stats like "log-ins in the past hour". The problem is similar to the one described here: http://highscalability.com/blog/2008/4/19/how-to-build-a-real-time-analytics-system.html The simplest approach would be to do a select like this: select count(distinct user_id) from logs where date>='20120601 1200' and date <='20120601 1300' (of course other conditions could apply for the stats, like log-ins per country) Of course this would be really slow, mainly if it has millions (or even thousands) of rows, and I want to query this every time a page is displayed. How would you summarize the data? What should go to the (mem)cache? EDIT: I'm looking for a way to de-normalize the data, or to keep the cache up-to-date. For example I could increment an in-memory variable every time someone logs in, but that would help to know the total amount of logins, not the "logins in the last hour". Hope it's more clear now.

  • SQL indexing on varchar

    - by alex
I have a table whose columns are varchar(50) and a float - I need to (very quickly) look get the float associated with a given string. Even with indexing, this is rather slow. I know, however, that each string is associated with an integer, which I know at the time of lookup, so that each string maps to a unique integer, but each integer does not map to a unique string. One might think of it as a tree structure. Is there anything to be gained by adding this integer to the table, indexing on it, and using a query like SELECT floatval FROM mytable WHERE phrase=givenstring AND assoc=givenint? This is Postgres, and if you couldn't tell, I have very little experience with databases.

  • Better way to write this SQL

    - by AngryHacker
I have the following table: create table ARDebitDetail(ID_ARDebitDetail int identity, ID_Hearing int, ID_AdvancedRatePlan int) I am trying to get the latest ID_AdvancedRatePlan based on a ID_Hearing. By latest I mean with the largest ID_ARDebitDetail. I have this query and it works fine. select ID_AdvancedRatePlan from ARDebitDetails where ID_Hearing = 135878 and ID_ARDebitDetail = ( select max(ID_ARDebitDetail) from ARDebitDetails where ID_AdvancedRatePlan > 0 and ID_Hearing = 135878 ) However, it just looks ugly and smells bad. Is there a way to rewrite it in a more concise manner?

  • Can/Should you throw exceptions in a c# switch statement?

    - by Kettenbach
Hi All, I have an insert query that returns an int. Based on that int I may wish to throw an exception. Is this appropriate to do within a switch statement? switch (result) { case D_USER_NOT_FOUND: throw new ClientException(string.Format("D User Name: {0} , was not found.", dTbx.Text)); case C_USER_NOT_FOUND: throw new ClientException(string.Format("C User Name: {0} , was not found.", cTbx.Text)); case D_USER_ALREADY_MAPPED: throw new ClientException(string.Format("D User Name: {0} , is already mapped.", dTbx.Text)); case C_USER_ALREADY_MAPPED: throw new ClientException(string.Format("C User Name: {0} , is already mapped.", cTbx.Text)); default: break; } I normally add break statements to switches but they will not be hit. Is this a bad design? Please share any opinions/suggestions with me. Thanks, ~ck in San Diego

  • better way to write this

    - by ash34
Hi, I have to create a hash of the form h[:bill] = ["Billy", "NA", 20, "PROJ_A"] by login where 20 is the cumulative number of hours reported by the login for all task transactions returned by the query where each login has multiple reported transactions. Did I do this in a bad way or this seems alright. h = Hash.new Task.find_each(:include => [:user], :joins => :user, :conditions => ["from_date >= ? AND from_date <= ? AND category = ?", Date.today - 30, Date.today + 30, 'PROJ1']) do |t| h[t.login.intern] = [t.user.name, 'NA', h[t.login.intern].nil? ? (t.hrs_per_day * t.num_days) : h[t.login.intern][2] + (t.hrs_day * t.workdays), t.category] end Also if I have to aggregate not just by login but login and category how do I accomplish this? thanks, ash

  • Find all clauses related to an atom

    - by Luc Touraille
This is probably a very silly question (I just started learning Prolog a few hours ago), but is it possible to find all the clauses related to an atom? For example, assuming the following knowledge base: cat(tom). animal(X) :- cat(X). , is there a way to obtain every possible information about tom (or at least all the facts that are explicitly stated in the base)? I understand that a query like this is not possible: ?- Pred(tom). so I thought I could write a rule that would deduce the correct information: meta(Object, Predicate) :- Goal =.. [Predicate, Object], call(Goal). so that I could write queries such as ?- meta(tom, Predicate). but this does not work because arguments to call are not sufficiently instantiated. So basically my question is: is this at all possible, or is Prolog not design to provide this kind of information? And if it is not possible, why?

  • Alternative design for a synonyms table?

    - by Majid
I am working on an app which is to suggest alternative words/phrases for input text. I have doubts about what might be a good design for the synonyms table. Design considerations: number of synonyms is variable, i.e. football has one synonym (soccer), but in particular has two (particularly, specifically) if football is a synonym to soccer, the relation exists in the opposite direction as well. our goal is to query a word and find its synonyms we want to keep the table small and make adding new words easy What comes to my mind is a two column design with col a = word and col b = delimited list of synonyms Is there any better alternative? What about using two tables, one for words and the other for relations?

  • How active record is automatically setting up the autoincremental value of ID?

    - by piemesons
Here this is what we are doing:-- an_order = Order.new an_order.name = "Dave Thomas" an_order.email = "[email protected]" an_order.address = "123 Main St" an_order.pay_type = "check" an_order.save Now it will insert a new row in orders table right. I m having a ID column in that table. Now suppose after inserting this record the value of the ID corresponding to this record is 100. Now how this 100 value came to know? Does the previous value of ID ie 99 (Suppose) is stored somewhere in some variable/file in the ORM layer or before inserting this value a query was fired to know about the last inserted value or database is itself doing that or anything else???

  • how to prune data set?

    - by sakura90
The MovieLens data set provides a table with columns: userid | movieid | tag | timestamp I have trouble reproducing the way they pruned the MovieLens data set used in: http://www.cse.ust.hk/~yzhen/papers/tagicofi-recsys09-zhen.pdf In 4.1 Data Set of the above paper, it writes "For the tagging information, we only keep those tags which are added on at least 3 distinct movies. As for the users, we only keep those users who used at least 3 distinct tags in their tagging history. For movies, we only keep those movies that are annotated by at least 3 distinct tags." I tried to query the database: select TMP.userid, count(*) as tagnum from (select distinct T.userid as userid, T.tag as tag from tags T) AS TMP group by TMP.userid having tagnum = 3; I got a list of 1760 users who labeled 3 distinct tags. However, some of the tags are not added on at least 3 distinct movies. Any help is appreciated.

  • Keeping a large volume of data in Session - Suggestions / alternatives?

    - by Fishcake
I'm developing a web app for which the client wants us to query their data as little as possible. The data will be coming from a Microsoft CRM instance. So we've agreed that data will only be queried as and when it is needed, therefore if a web user wants to see a list of contacts (for example) that list is fetched into a local DataTable. Then if a new contact is created on the website the new contact is sent to CRM and added to the local DataTable at the same time. Likewise for edits. If the user then looks at their contacts again the data will just come from the local DataTable. At the moment local data is being kept in Session but my concern is that too much memory will start being used up. However traffic is expected to be pretty small, perhaps no more than 20 concurrent users so am I worrying about nothing or is there a better way you can suggest to handle this?

  • How to get the place name by latitude and longitude using openstreetmap in android

    In my app i am using osm rather than google map.I have latitude and longitude.So from here how i will query to get the city name from osm database..please help me. final String requestString = "http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/reverse?format=json&lat=" + Double.toString(lat) + "&lon=" + Double.toString(lon) + "&zoom=18&addressdetails=1"; RequestBuilder builder = new RequestBuilder(RequestBuilder.GET, URL.encode(requestString)); try { @SuppressWarnings("unused") Request request = builder.sendRequest(null, new RequestCallback() { @Override public void onResponseReceived(Request request, Response response) { if (response.getStatusCode() == 200) { String city = ""; try { JSONValue json = JSONParser.parseStrict(response); JSONObject address = json.isObject().get("address").isObject(); final String quotes = "^\"|\"$"; if (address.get("city") != null) { city = address.get("city").toString().replaceAll(quotes, ""); } else if (address.get("village") != null) { city = address.get("village").toString().replaceAll(quotes, ""); } } catch (Exception e) { } } } }); } catch (Exception e1) { }

  • How to deny payment via PayPal IPN?

    - by Nick
Hello all, I need to create dynamic 'Pay Now' buttons on my site, and PayPal says the way to do this is via an HTML FORM with preset variables for the price, currency, and item of the purchase. I use PayPal IPN to notify me when a payment has complete. However, what's to stop someone from modifying the query parameters of the Pay Now button to change the price? Some people have told me to redirect the button through a PHP file that sends you to a PayPal payment page with the parameters in place, but the price could just as easily be manipulated in the Web browser's address bar. My question is, how can I deny a payment if the information I receive from PayPal's IPN service is invalid (if the price doesn't match our records)? I'm quite confused and couldn't find any documentation on what I'm looking for. Hopefully, you guys can help. Thanks!

  • how do I join and include the association

    - by Mark
Hi All, How do I use both include and join in a named scope? Post is polymorphic class Post has_many :approved_comments, :class_name => 'Comment' end class Comment belongs_to :post end Comment.find(:all, :joins => :post, :conditions => ["post.approved = ? ", true], :include => :post) This does not work as joins does an inner join, and include does a left out join. The database throws an error as both joins can't be there in same query.

  • Dynamic "OR" conditions in Rails 3

    - by Ryan Foster
I am working on a carpool application where people can search for lifts. They should be able to select the city from which they would liked to be picked up and choose a radius which will then add the cities in range to the query. However the way it is so far is that i can only chain a bunch of "AND" conditions together where it would be right to say "WHERE start_city = city_from OR start_city = a_city_in_range OR start_city = another_city_in_range" Does anyone know how to achive this? Thanks very much in advance. class Search < ActiveRecord::Base def find_lifts scope = Lift.where('city_from_id = ?', self.city_from) #returns id of cities which are in range of given radius @cities_in_range_from = City.location_ids_in_range(self.city_from, self.radius_from) #adds where condition based on cities in range for city in @cities_in_range_from scope = scope.where('city_from_id = ?', city) #something like scope.or('city_from_id = ?', city) would be nice.. end end

  • Mono - Uri class

    - by Jonathan.Peppers
I am making an HttpWebRequest at a url similar to this: "http://mysite.com/search?query=my+search+string" Problem is, the Uri class escapes it with %, and the site I'm making the request against can't handle the escaped characters. (I have no control to fix the site) So tried this [Obsolete] constructor: new Uri(myUriString, true); But it did not seem to make any difference, when debugging, my Uri still got escaped. I am running this on a Mac with Mono, but I have not tried it on standard .Net on Windows to see if it has the same behavior. Is there another way to get around this issue?

  • NullReferenceException in EntityFramework, how come?

    - by Mickel
Take a look at this query: var user = GetUser(userId); var sessionInvites = ctx.SessionInvites .Include("InvitingUser") .Include("InvitedUser") .Where(e => e.InvitedUser.UserId == user.UserId) .ToList(); var invites = sessionInvites; // Commenting out the two lines below, and it works as expected. foreach (var invite in sessionInvites) ctx.DeleteObject(invite); ctx.SaveChanges(); return invites; Now, everything here executes without any errors. The invites that exists for the user are being deleted and the invites are being returned with success. However, when I then try to navigate to either InvitingUser or InvitedUser on any of the returned invites, I get NullReferenceException. All other properties of the SessionIvites returned, works fine. How come? [EDIT] Now the weird thing is, if I comment out the lines with delete it works as expected. (Except that the entities will not get deleted :S)

  • Why is it bad to use boolean flags in databases? And what should be used instead?

    - by David Chanin
I've been reading through some of guides on database optimization and best practices and a lot of them suggest not using boolean flags at all in the DB schema (ex http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/Top10SQLPerformanceTips). However, they never provide any reason as to why this is bad. Is it a peformance issue? is it hard to index or query properly? Furthermore, if boolean flags are bad, what should you use to store boolean values in a database? Is it better to store boolean flags as an integer and use a bitmask? This seems like it would be less readable.

  • PostgreSQL - best way to return an array of key-value pairs

    - by Matt W
I'm trying to select a number of fields, one of which needs to be an array with each element of the array containing two values. Each array item needs to contain a name (character varying) and an ID (numeric). I know how to return an array of single values (using the ARRAY keyword) but I'm unsure of how to return an array of an object which in itself contains two values. The query is something like SELECT t.field1, t.field2, ARRAY(--with each element containing two values i.e. {'TheName', 1 }) FROM MyTable t I read that one way to do this is by selecting the values into a type and then creating an array of that type. Problem is, the rest of the function is already returning a type (which means I would then have nested types - is that OK? If so, how would you read this data back in application code - i.e. with a .Net data provider like NPGSQL?) Any help is much appreciated.

  • Cannot implicitly convert type System.Collection.Generic.IEnumberable

    - by Cen
I'm receiving this error in my Linq statement --- Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' to 'hcgames.ObjectClasses.ShoppingCart.ShoppingCartCartAddon'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) From this query ShoppingCartItems items = Cart.GetAllItems(); ShoppingCartCartAddons addons = Cart.GetAllAddons(); var stuff = from x in items select new ShoppingCartItem() { ProductID = x.ProductID, Quantity = x.Quantity, Name = x.Name, Price = x.Price, Weight = x.Weight, Addons = (from y in addons where y.ShoppingCartItemID == x.ID select y) }; I can not figure out how to cast this properly. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!
