We know from articles like http://stackoverflow.com/questions/62771/how-check-if-given-string-is-legal-allowed-file-name-under-windows that for some reason the file system allows creation of illegal file/folder chacters and paths that exceed the limitations of Windows. I need the following question answered: How to remove cabability to create file or folder creation in NTFS that contains invalid characters? Can you remove the POSIX subsystem from Windows to fix this issue? How does disabling 8.3 dos name creation factor into this issue? Will any of these fixes prevent linux clients from creating windows compliant files?

In child activity i have put something like that in onPause(): if (isFinishing()) { final Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.putExtra(SOME_DATA, value); setResult(RESULT_OK, intent); Log.i("test", "Result set to RESULT_OK"); } In parent activity i check resultCode when child activity is destroyed, and this is what i have noticed: If i destroy child activity by some action (in some condition i invoke finish()), then resultCode is RESULT_OK But when i destroy by pressing return key (i works only in emulator so its ESC) who kills activity, then resultCode read in parent onActivityResult method equals 0 (RESULT_CANCELD). "test" log read in each case is the same.

• Resizing to page width for print style sheet

  So I've got a page that shows an image with some absolutely positioned text on top of it. I want to write a print style sheet for it so that: the image is resized to fit the width of the page the text is repositioned and resized to maintain relative position and size with the image behind it So I know I can do (1) with just max-width: 100%, but I'm not sure how to accomplish (2). I'm okay with using some javascript if necessary, but I wanted to know if there's a way to do this in pure CSS. If I do need to use javascript, what can I hook to check for the pixel width of the image in the printed page? Just use the calculated width as normal? And yes, this question might be more appropriate for DocType, but I've yet to get any help over there.

• c++ Sorting a vector based on values of other vector, or what's faster?

  Hi, There are a couple of other posts about sorting a vector A based on values in another vector B. Most of the other answers tell to create a struct or a class to combine the values into one object and use std::sort. Though I'm curious about the performance of such solutions as I need to optimize code which implements bubble sort to sort these two vectors. I'm thinking to use a vector<pair<int,int>> and sort that. I'm working on a blob-tracking application (image analysis) where I try to match previously tracked blobs against newly detected blobs in video frames where I check each of the frames against a couple of previously tracked frames and of course the blobs I found in previous frames. I'm doing this at 60 times per second (speed of my webcam). Any advice on optimizing this is appreciated.   Guys, I've just dipped in to limits.h by MS. So does it mean if I would write makeSanwich() return (_Ty(0)) it would make a sandwich for me? How is it possible that having this same code just fnc names different we are getting different results?

  I have a site that will require a login by the users. The client will only only users from their company's domain to gain access. I need to validate the field based on an e-mail domain address. ie. only allow email addresses from @mycompany.com to go through. Can this be done with the jquery.validate plugin? I see where you can check to see if it's a valid e-mail, but I'd like to make sure it matches a specific pattern (@mycompany.com). Any help would be appreciated!

  Hi, Could some one possibly clarify this for me. In the MVC paradigm, the idea is to keep the controller as thin as possible, it is also true that the model is the bit that communicates with data sources such as the database, XML-RPC etc and this is where the business logic should go. Is the POST and GET data a 'data source' and should that kind of data be handled by the model or should it be by the controller. I would normally call a method in the model and pass it the post data, the data would be quality checked by the controller and the model method would simply do the insertion or whatever. Should it be though that controller just calls the model method if a post has occured and it is responsible for sanity check, data checks etc.

What it actually does is to check the quantity of issued product and balance quantity are the same. If something is wrong, returns an ErrorStr nvarchar(255). Output Example: Balance Stock Error for Product ID : 4 From the above string, I want to get 4 so that later on I can SELECT the rows which is giving errors by using WHERE clause (WHERE Product_ID = 4).   I was reading this Ars article on password security and it mentioned there are sites that "hash the password before transmitting"? Now, assuming this isn't using an SSL connection (HTTPS), a. is this actually secure and b. if it is how would you do this in a secure manor? Edit 1: (some thoughts based on first few answers) c. If you do hash the password before transmission, how do you use that if you only store a salted hash version of the password in your user credentials databas? d. Just to check, if you are using a HTTPS secured connection, is any of this necessary?

  I would just like to ask what is the difference between user_constraints and user_objects. I have this two database. I run a script on both DB that resulted a unique constraint error. To solve the problem I delete the constraint on user_constraint table for both DB. After that DB1 run without error.. DB2 however failed, I checked the user_constraint for both db and the constraints was deleted. I was asked to check the user_objects.. and found that DB2 has that same constraint_name as the object_name in user_objects table.. Any info regarding their relationship, use, similarites, etc will be appreciated ... Thanks..

  Task: I have a camera mounted on the end of our assembly line, which captures images of produced items. Let's for example say, that we produce tickets (with some text and pictures on them). So every produced ticket is photographed and saved to disk as image. Now I would like to check these saved images for anomalies (i.e. compare them to an image (a template), which is OK). So if there is a problem with a ticket on our assembly line (missing picture, a stain,...), my application should find it (because its image differs too much from my template). Question: What is the easiest way to compare pictures and find differences between them? Do I need to write my own methods, or can I use existing ones? It would be great if I just set a tolerance value (i.e. images can differ for 1%), put both images in a function and get a return value of true or false :) Tools: C# or VB.NET, Emgu.CV (.NET wrapper for OpenCV) or something similar

I go through a file, and check which string each line has, depending on the string value i execute a different function for it (or functions). This is how i do it now: if(str == "something"){ // do stuff }else if(str == "something else"){ // do stuff }else if(str == "something more"){ // do stuff }else if(str == "something again"){ // do stuff }else if(str == "something different"){ // do stuff }else if(str == "something really different"){ // do stuff } I am afraid this will become "slow" after i have to repeat those else if lines a lot... I tried to use switch() statement, but obviously it doesnt work here, is there something similar to switch() to use here?

• Template apps for iPhone

  Is there a good place to get starter apps for iPhone, where you choose from any of a large set of permutations?...for instance with a nav bar and a flip screen and a 3 deep table view, with Core Data support etc. I guess what I was hoping for is some kind of wizard where you can check a few boxes and have a working app as a starting point....but more than just the 3 or 4 choices that come with xCode. If not a wizard, just a nice set of a couple dozen permutations. Also....is there any good sample apps out there that show the difference between identical apps, one which uses Interface Builder and one not? Aside from being handy for myself, I'd think these would be great as a teaching tool. I've googled a bit and come up with nothing.

• Recordset Update errors when updating sql_variant field

  I'm using C++ and ADO to add data to a SQL Server 2005 database. When calling the Recordset Update method for a sql_variant column I'm getting the error DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED and the error message Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. If the value I'm adding is NULL all works fine and all values going to the fields that are not sql_variant types work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks [Edit] I have some more information. The value we are storing is the empty string - ADO appears to want to store this in the sql_variant as a nchar(0), which of course is not a valid SQL data type. Is there a way to get an empty string in a sql_variant using the ADO batch commands?

• Checkbox - in Javascript

  I am working on Edit screen where I am pulling out value from db to check if the checkbox is checked or not. If it is unchecked, it should deselect the checkbox and other controls of this checkbox. In my case the js works perfectly fine. That is if my previous screen has checkbox unchecked, edit screen disables all the values for this checkbox. But it still shows the checkbox is checked in UI(though it is actually checked). Something is wrong with my html code.
