• No sound lenovo t60 alsa ad1981 iec958

  Any help on getting the sound to come through my lenovo t60 build in speakers, headphones, or mic would greatly be appreciated. The three buttons to increase, decrease sound seem to work. Bios has sound card enabled and the buttons beep when pressed. When going to Utube or playing music, no sound is heard. Thanks Nate Feb 23 - Didn't see anything specific in the sys logs with Rhythmbox when connecting my ipod. Rhythmbox is playing, but still no sound. Here is the syslog details for today. First execute the script which I have written here. Now guess what will be the next value as requested in the query. Now let us first assume how this will work out. In our example of the sequence starting value is equal to 1 and decrement value is -1, this means the value should decrement from 1 to 0. However, the minimum value is 1. This means the value cannot further decrement at all. What will happen here? The natural assumption is that it should throw an error. How many of you are assuming about query will throw an ERROR? Well, you are WRONG! Do not blame yourself, it is my fault as I have told you only half of the story. Now if you have voted for error, let us continue running above code in SQL Server Management Studio. The above script will give the following output: Isn’t it interesting that instead of error out it is giving us result value 3. To understand the answer about the same, carefully observe the original syntax of creating SEQUENCE – there is a keyword CYCLE. This keyword cycles the values between the minimum and maximum value and when one of the range is exhausted it cycles the values from the other end of the cycle. As we have negative incremental value when query reaches to the minimum value or lower end it will cycle it from the maximum value. Here the maximum value is 3 so the next logical value is 3. If your business requirement is such that if sequence reaches the maximum or minimum value, it should throw an error, you should not use the keyword cycle, and it will behave as discussed. • HPCM 11.1.2.2.x - HPCM Standard Costing Generating >99 Calc Scipts

  HPCM Standard Profitability calculation scripts are named based on a documented naming convention. From 11.1.2.2.x, the script name = a script suffix (1 letter) + POV identifier (3 digits) + Stage Order Number (1 digit) + “_” + index (2 digits) (please see documentation for more information (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hpm_admin/apes01.html). This naming convention results in the name being 8 characters in length i.e. the maximum number of characters permitted calculation script names in non-unicode Essbase BSO databases. The index in the name will indicate the number of scripts per stage. In the vast majority of cases, the number of scripts generated per stage will be significantly less than 100 and therefore, there will be no issue. However, in some cases, the number of scripts generated can exceed 99. It is unusual for an application to generate more than 99 calculation scripts for one stage. This may indicate that explicit assignments are being extensively used. An assessment should be made of the design to see if assignment rules can be used instead. Assignment rules will reduce the need for so many calculation script lines which will reduce the requirement for such a large number of calculation scripts. In cases where the scripts generates exceeds 100, the length of the name of the 100th calculation script is different from the 99th as the calculation script name changes from being 8 characters long and becomes 9 characters long (e.g. A6811_100 rather than A6811_99). A name of 9 characters is not permitted in non Unicode applications. It is “too long”. When this occurs, an error will show in the hpcm.log as “Error processing calculation scripts” and “Unexpected error in business logic “. Further down the log, it is possible to see that this is “Caused by: Error copying object “ and “Caused by: com.essbase.api.base.EssException: Cannot put olap file object ... object name_[<calc script name> e.g. A6811_100] too long for non-unicode mode application”. The error file will give the name of the calculation script which is causing the issue. In my example, this is A6811_100 and you can see this is 9 characters in length. It is not possible to increase the number of characters allowed in a calculation script name. However, it is possible to increase the size of each calculation script. The default for an HPCM application, set in the preferences, is set to 4mb. If the size of each calculation script is larger, the number of scripts generated will reduce and, therefore, less than 100 scripts will be generated which means that the name of the calculation script will remain 8 characters long. To increase the size of the generated calculation scripts for an application, in the HPM_APPLICATION_PREFERENCE table for the application, find the row where HPM_PREFERENCE_NAME_ID=20. The default value in this row is 4194304. This can be increased e.g. 7340032 will increase this to 7mb. Please restart the profitability service after making the change.

• Scenarios for Throwing Exceptions

  I recently came across a situation where someone had an opinion that differed from mine of when an exception should be thrown. This particular case was an issue opened on LINQ to Twitter for an Exception on EndSession.  The premise of the issue was that the poster didn’t feel an exception should be raised, regardless of authentication status.  As first, this sounded like a valid point.  However, I went back to review my code and decided not to make any changes. Here's my rationale: 1. The exception doesn’t occur if the user is authenticated when EndAccountSession is called. 2. The exception does occur if the user is not authenticated when EndAccountSession is called. 3. The exception represents the fact that EndAccountSession is not able to fulfill its intended purpose - to end the session.  If a session never existed, then it would not be possible to perform the requested action.  Therefore, an exception is appropriate. To help illustrate how to handle this situation, I've modified the following code in Program.cs in the LinqToTwitterDemo project to illustrate the situation: static void EndSession(ITwitterAuthorizer auth) { using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://search.twitter.com/")) { try { //Log twitterCtx.Log = Console.Out; var status = twitterCtx.EndAccountSession(); Console.WriteLine("Request: {0}, Error: {1}" , status.Request , status.Error); } catch (TwitterQueryException tqe) { var webEx = tqe.InnerException as WebException; if (webEx != null) { var webResp = webEx.Response as HttpWebResponse; if (webResp != null && webResp.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.Unauthorized) Console.WriteLine("Twitter didn't recognize you as having been logged in. Therefore, your request to end session is illogical.\n"); } var status = tqe.Response; Console.WriteLine("Request: {0}, Error: {1}" , status.Request , status.Error); } } } As expected, LINQ to Twitter wraps the exception in a TwitterQueryException as the InnerException.  The TwitterQueryException serves a very useful purpose through it's Response property.  Notice in the example above that the response has Request and Error proprieties.  These properties correspond to the information that Twitter returns as part of it's response payload.  This is often useful while debugging to help you understand why Twitter was unable to perform the  requested action.  Other times, it's cryptic, but that's another story.  At least you have some way of knowing in your code how to anticipate and handle these situations, along with having extra information to debug with. To sum things up, there are two points to make: when and why an exception should be raised and when to wrap and re-throw an exception in a custom exception type. I felt it was necessary to allow the exception to be raised because the called method was unable to perform the task it was designed for.  I also felt that it is inappropriate for a general library to do anything with exceptions because that could potentially hide a problem from the caller.  A related point is that it should be the exclusive decision of the application that uses the library on what to do with an exception.  Another aspect of this situation is that I wrapped the exception in a custom exception and re-threw.  This is a tough call because I don’t want to hide any stack trace information.  However, the need to make the exception more meaningful by including vital information returned from Twitter swayed me in the direction to design an interface that was as helpful as possible to library consumers.  As shown in the code above, you can dig into the exception and pull out a lot of good information, such as the fact that the underlying HTTP response was a 401 Unauthorized.  In all, trade-offs are seldom perfect for all cases, but combining the fact that the method was unable to perform its intended function, this is a library, and the extra information can be more helpful, it seemed to be the better design. @JoeMayo

• Development Quirk From ASP.NET Dynamic Compilation

  The Problem I got a compilation error in my ASP.NET MVC3 project that tested my sanity today. (As always, names are changed to protect the innocent) The type or namespace name 'FishViewModel' does not exist in the namespace 'Company.Product.Application.Models' (are you missing an assembly reference?) Sure looks easy! There must be something in the project referring to a FishViewModel. The Confusing Part The first thing I noticed was the that error was occuring in a folder clearly not in my project and in files that I definitely had not created: %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\(versionNumber)\Temporary ASP.NET Files\ App_Web_mezpfjae.1.cs I also ascertained these facts, each of which made me more confused than the last: Rebuild and Clean had no effect. No controllers in the project ever returned a ViewResult using FishViewModel. No views in the project defined that they use FishViewModel. Searching across all files included in the project for “FishViewModel” provided no results. The build server did not report a problem. The Solution The problem stemmed from a file that was not included in the project but still present on the file system: (By the way, if you don’t know this trick already, there is a toolbar button in the Solution Explorer window to “Show All Files” which allows you to see files all files in the file system) In my situation, I was working on the mission-critical Fish view before abandoning the feature. Instead of deleting the file, I excluded it from the project. However, this was a bad move. It caused the build failure, and in order to fix the error, this file must be deleted. By the way, this file was not in source control, so the build server did not have it. This explains why my build server did not report a problem for me. The Explanation So, what’s going on? This file isn’t even a part of the project, so why is it failing the build? This is a behavior of the ASP.NET Dynamic Compilation. This is the same process that occurs when deploying a webpage; ASP.NET compiles the web application’s code. When this occurs on a production server, it has to do so without the .csproj file (which isn’t usually deployed, if you’ve taken your time to do a deployment cleanly). This process has merely the file system available to identify what to compile. So, back in the world of developing the webpage in visual studio on my developer box, I run into the situation because the same process is occuring there. This is true even though I have more files on my machine than will actually get deployed. I can’t help but think that this error could be attributed back to the real culprit file (Fish.cshtml, rather than the temporary files) with some work, but at least the error had enough information in it to narrow it down. The Conclusion I had previously been accustomed to the idea that for c# projects, the .csproj file always “defines” the build behavior. This investigation has taught me that I’ll need to shift my thinking a bit to remember that the file system has the final say when it comes to web applications, even on the developer’s machine!

• Cant finish upgrade from 11.10 to 12 on VPS based on Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, due to libc6

  I was stuck with this problem near the end of an upgrade: WARNING: this version of the GNU libc requires kernel version 2.6.24 or later. Please upgrade your kernel before installing glibc. The installation of a 2.6 kernel could ask you to install a new libc first, this is NOT a bug, and should NOT be reported. In that case, please add lenny sources to your /etc/apt/sources.list and run: apt-get install -t lenny linux-image-2.6 Their suggested stepds dont work on VPS, and after googling, I came up to this: Why did my upgrade to 12.04 fail with "glibc not found" or "libc6" or "requires kernel 2.6.24" error? There is comment by izx which explains my problem and proposes a workaround (might take a while to convince the guys to upgrade the kernel..).   I recently upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 only to find out that it won't connect to any network, neither wired nor wireless and the graphics is messed up too as in a low screen resolution. For 12.04, my system was running perfectly. I don't know why upgrade messed it up so bad. Reinstalling the OS is an issue because I have set up a lot of development environments that I cannot afford to set it up again.   I must be missing something. Help! My manifest contains: <manifest ...> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="7" android:maxSdkVersion="10" /> <application ... I have all API packages installed (through 7 - Android 2.1). Whenever I try to run or debug my app in the emulator, reglardless of which version I start, I get the message in the subject line and I have to click on Cancel in order to continue. After that, the device chooser appears: and I can select a device and the app starts up fine in the Emulator. What do the red Xs mean next to the target? When my Nexus One is cradled, I do not get the warning that there is no compatible device. I can live with the extra click, but I am concerned that my up does not properly register the target API level and that this will cause problems once uploaded to the market.

  When doing some web maintenance today, I noticed a strange new folder on my GoDaddy hosting account at the root level named "dbboon", with a single file inside, called proxy.php. It's code is listed below, and seems to be some sort of proxy function. I was kind of troubled because I didn't put it there. I googled all this to learn more, but didn't find anything, except for the proxy file happened to be also stored at pastebin.com: http://pastebin.com/PQsSPbCr I called GoDaddy and they confirmed that it belonged to them, said it was put there by their advanced hosting group for testing purposes but didn't have any more information. • Running MSBuild fails to read SDKToolsPath

  Howdy, I'm having a bit of an issue runnning a NAnt script that used to properly build my .Net 2.0 based website, when compiling with VS2008 and it's associated tools. I've recently upgraded all the project/solution files to VS2010, and now my build fails with the following error: [exec] C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(2249,9): error MSB3086: Task could not find "sgen.exe" using the S dkToolsPath "" or the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A". Make sure the SdkToolsPath is set and the tool exists in the correct processor specific location under the SdkToolsPath and that the Microsoft Windows SDK is installed Now, I DO have prior versions (.Net 3.5) of the Windows SDK installed on the build server, and the full .Net 4.0 framework is installed, but I've not run across a .Net 4.0 specific version of the Windows SDK. After a bit of experimentation and research, I finally just setup a new environmental variable "SDKToolsPath" and pointed it to the copy of sgen.exe in my windows 6.0 sdk folder. This generated the same error, but it got me to notice that even though the SDKToolsPath environmental variable IS set (confirmed that I can "echo" it at the command line and it has the expected value), the error message seems to indicated that it's not being read (note the empty quotes). Most of the information I've found is .Net 3.5 (or earlier) specific. Not much 4.0 related out there yet. Searching for error code MSB3086 generated nothing useful either.   I am using Ninject and ADO.Net Entity Framework in my Aps.Net (Mvc) website. I bind the ObjectContext to Ninject using the RequestScope: Bind<Entities>().ToSelf().InRequestScope().WithConstructorArgument("connectionString", _connectionString); In most cases this works perferct. But sometimes I got the following error: The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection. This error occurs at different positions while getting, updating, inserting or deleting data. In some cases this error occurs until I reset my webapp and sometimes it disappears after some requests. I am displeased that I have no more details. Because it seems that there is no pattern when and where this error occurs. Because the time and position is allways different :( Some hints or ideas?

  Hello I'm trying to get adaptive thresholding working in the python binding to opencv (the swig one - cannot get opencv 2.0 working as I am using a beagleboard as the cross compiling is not working yet). Now when i try to open that project, it is showing error "This version of visual studio does not support source control" and " Unexpected error enocountered. Restart the application Error : no such interfaces are supported File : vsee\internal\vscomptr.inl". When i open solution explorer, all projects are showing as unavailable. I tried VS--Tools--options-- source control--plugin selection and set plug in to Microsoft "Visual source safe" and when i open "Environment" tab it is showing "an error occured while loading this property page" Can someone help me???

I have followed the steps in this guide, but it fails in the middle of Step 4 with SHOW MASTER STATUS; It simply returns an empty set. I get the same 3 errors in both servers' logs.
