• Ubuntu freezes/crash after wake when upgraded to 13.10

  Back on 13.04 it didn't occurred. I've upgraded to 13.10, systems apparently working fine, but, when I put it to sleep(using or not using extended monitor) and try to wake up, I see the screen(both), without lock-screen, but completely freeze, Neither tty open, nor the keyboard works. So, only option remains is to force shut-down. Any clue how to investigate the cause or fix it? Thanks in advance, any info that'll help you could ask! • Huwaei Modem working fine!

  yesterday I installed Ubuntu 12 in my sony vaio lappy. I have Huwaei E173 3G modem, simply inserted that modem into usb slot, after a few seconds modem started blinking finding as activated. I opened network profile and created a new network under 'Mobile broadband' tab everything was automated and I felt awesome, infact I used net for a while. Next morning, I placed modem into usb, nothing happened, no sign of modem presence even but modem is blinking, I tried creating a new connection once again but attained no luck. • How to understand Linux kernel source code for a beginner?

  Hi, I am a student interested in working on Memory Management, particularly the page replacement component of the linux kernel. What are the different guides that can help me to begin understanding the kernel source? I have tried to read the book Understanding the Linux Virutal Memory Manager by Mel Gorman and Understanding the Linux Kernel by Cesati and Bovet, but they do not explain the flow of control through the code. They only end up explaining various data structures used and the work various functions perform. This makes the code more confusing. My project deals with tweaking the page replacement algorithm in a mainstream kernel and analyse its performance for a set of workloads. Is there a flavor of the linux kernel that would be easier to understand(if not the linux-2.6.xx kernel)?

• Solo .NET Programmer moving to a team

  I've been a solo .NET programmer for a small startup for the last 8 years. I've put together some pretty decent software, and I always strived to better myself and conform to best practices, including source control (SVN/TFS). I worked very closely with a team of engineers of other disciplines, but when it came down to the software I was the only one programming. I love the craft of programming and love learning new things to sharpen my tools. In 2 weeks I will be starting a new job in a team of 20 .NET developers. My position will be mid-level, and I will be working under some programmers with incredibly impressive backgrounds. Again, the team aspect of development will be new to me, so I'm looking for some general "new guy" tips that will help me be as effective and easy to get along with as possible from the get-go. Anything goes, including high level tips, and small day-to-day things about communication. Thanks for any and all input!

  Problem Statement - Given a NxM grid of 1s & 0s (1s mark walls, while 0s indicate empty chambers), the task is to identify the number of chambers & the size of the largest. And just to whet my curiosity, to find in which chamber, a cell belongs. It seems like an ad hoc problem, since the regular algorithms just don't fit in. I just can't get the logic for writing an algorithm for the problem. If you get it, pseudo-code would be of great help! • Mts mblaze doesn't connect to internet

  I've sony vaio vpceb24en laptop, I'm using dual boot system with windows 7 and ubuntu. Firstly I installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS then upgraded to 12.04 & 12.04.1 afterwards. I have mts mblaze dongle. I have set up the mts connection profile under the mobile broadband. My problem is : Sometimes my connection is easily made & I use it, sometime it never connects. So I have to restart my system then it connects to internet sometimes. But now it's not connecting even I restarted my system many times, just it shows trying to connect icon once, then never tries to connect. while in windows it's working fine. Please someone help me out how to resolve this problem as I'm very new to linux. Thanks, Chetan

• Can't boot after power failure - 14.04 - GRUB even doesn't showup

  Packages were updating when somehow the power failed (battery fully charged and power got disconnected). Now it won't boot. It doesn't even get as far as GRUB. The bios says it can't boot and press any key to retry. Fortunately all data is backed up and I can boot a live SD. Now what do I do? Model: Dell Latitude D630 Dual-boots with Windows 7, but since GRUB doesn't show up that's not bootable either. Thanks in advance for any help!

  Is there any direct way do contact a „real” person, an YouTube employer? Someone created an account for the company I work for (previous employer). She entered some password and e-mail. The provided e-mail was valid, but since last login (more than two years), we changed our domain, and this e-mail is probably not valid anymore (and we even don't know it), co we can't use option to reset password. I have used all the options in YouTube help center, and no one worked. Also we can't contact this previous employer to get any data she entered in the registration form. The only data I know is the username. All the movies present the products of our company, there are links to our site in movie descriptions, so there should be no problem to prove that the account is ours. This is an urgent case, becouse the movies contain outdated information.

  I own a Dell Latitude E6520 with an Intel CPU (Core i7 2720QM). After installing cpufrequtils, I get the following message : cpufrequtils 007: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2009 Veuillez rapportez les erreurs et les bogues à [email protected], s'il vous plait. analyse du CPU 0 : **pas de pilotes cpufreq reconnu pour ce CPU** maximum transition latency: 4294.55 ms. In English : no cpufreq pilot found for this CPU. Thus my CPU runs always at full speed (2,2 GHz) which consume the battery and shorten its life. I don't either know how to activate turbo mode.   I downloaded the XAMPP .run file from Apacheandfriends but the installation isn't working for me.   I've been looking at a 2D physics game called 'Hill Climb Racing' (Android and iOS) and was wondering how they went about texturing the terrain? I've had a think about it and I've come up with nothing and finding a resource on the web has proved impossible. Please help. The game mentioned uses Cocos2d. Would it be just as doable in a different environment? EDIT: I was looking at another question: Drawing large 2D sidescroller level terrain The end result is what I'm looking for, but in my mind I was thinking that there would be some way to add this effect (using small textures) to some terrain specified by vertices rather than making a very large image to match whatever is seen in the level.

• Problem with graphic Ubuntu 12.04 (not sure if it's because of the graphic driver)

  Ubuntu 12.04 was functioning properly . Then after an update, some graphic elements stop working properly. I could not launch programs that has 3D elements. Work space switcher's window displays 2D window instead of a 3D like usual. In Details menu, the Graphic row is blank. I am using Intel GMA 4500MHD graphic card. I am guessing that the driver is not properly installed? Anyone has the same issue? Please help!

• Java web UI framework like ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm doing some web apps for personal projects that might be shared out with my friends. I'm trying to use skills that will help me at work, but don't have $$ to spend on Visual Studio right now and don't want to try to cobble something together with Express Editions. Since I've been sort of wanting to bring my Java skills up to date and the main skills I want to work on are design and architecture skills, this isn't a big deal - except that I have no idea how to track down the right UI framework. I know I want something based on MVC, to get more practice with frameworks for that design pattern (we're using ASP .NET MVC2 at work). The UIs that I'll be making will be pretty simple - data entry, buttons, text, images. They will need AJAX. Any thoughts about which frameworks to look at? I'll be watching the comments, if anyone wants additional clarification on what I'm looking for.

• Ubuntu One synching changed files

  I have several folders in the Ubuntu1 folder and if I add a new file (on my PC oder my Mobile) the file shows up in the other device or in the online access. However, if I change one of the files (like a spreadsheet I change almost daily on my PC) Ubuntu1 is not updating the changed file. It is still the old file on the other devices. Doesn't Ubuntu1 sync changed files only new ones or do I have to change some settings? Could someone be so nice and help me? Thanks in advance! Mark PS: I am using Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit.

• Grub Won't Boot WIndows 7

  I have a problem with Grub 2. when i hit the Windows 7 (loader) option on the Grub boot screen Windows won't boot. i get a black screen with a white cursor blinking... Here is a log of my Boot options. I just want to delete all the other partitions which i don't know how they 've been made and stay just with the Ubuntu ext4 partition, the swap partition and the WIndows 7 partition. Can someoune help me with my problem? • Broadcom BCM4313 working, but terribly slow

  Hi all, I've installed ubuntu on a Asus 1015 netbook. Everything worked out of the box except for the Wireless adapter, which i had to install with the Additional Drivers application. It apparently installed fine and connects to our wireless network, but it only works at a "funny" speed range that goes from 367Bytes to a peak of 3Kb in its best moments. I know for sure the problem is neither the network nor the hardware. Network speeds are normal under windows on this laptop and in other computers with ubuntu aswell. lspci says the card is a BCM4313 model, but the Addittional Drivers Manager says these packecege contains Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driverfor use with Broadcom's BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322 based hardware seems like it installed the wrong driver... Is there anything I can do? I'm not concerned about compiling the driver or stuff like that, but I'm not sure on where to start... any help or guidance will be very, very appreciated.

• How do I get a Canon MP550 working with Gutenprint?

  My printer canonMP550 doesn't work with i7 x86 64bit under Ubuntu 11.10 with cups+Gutenprint2.5.7. What I found, is: in gutenprint it is translated into ip4000 only, but it belongs to the group ip4700, which is translated into ip4300 (parameter). I tried to correct, read only, what to do? Next is gutenprint uses cups 1.2, but installed is cups 1.5 , so instead system/library/ color sync/ ..... it is usr/share/color/icc/sRGB.icc. So this seem to be real bugs, but Ii am new and need help to correct this staff!

• Make blogger load faster

  all. I use blogger as a platform for electronic music blog. Because of the thematics of the blog I embed many iframes (Youtube & Soundcloud). Of course this makes the articles to load slow. Almost each article on this blog consists of some text and many iframes below. What should I do in this particular case in order to make the articles (pages) load faster. Is there any available solution or I should use some jquery like lazy load to load iframes once the scroller reaches them? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I'm using URL rewriting to make my url http://example.com/foo/bar/ to http://example.com/index.php/foo/bar. I'm not linking the index.php/.. url anywhere, but for some reasons, some users arrives to the index.php url. In Google analytics, I have a lot of duplicates that are quite annoying to follow up the traffic. I've watched the Advanced filters but I'm struggling to make it works fine. Any regex and google analytics pro to help me out ?

• Can't mount windows partition?

  When I try to open the Windows Partition from Ubuntu I receive the error: Unable to mount 55 GB Filesystem Error mounting: mount exited without exit code 13: ntfs_mst_post_read_fixup_warn: magic: 0x04010400 size: 1024 usa_ofs: 1026 usa_count: 1026: Invalid argument Record 6 has no FILE magic (0x4010400) Failed to open inode FILE_Bitmap: Input/output error Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more detail. Additionally, I can't open the Windows Partition. I've tried updating it many times but it won't show up on GRUB. Does anybody know what all this means? And how I might fix it? I thank you for any help in advance
