  • Getting an 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine error when I tried hosting on Azure Servers

    - by user1864888
I am hosting a web application which uses OLEDB 12 to read an Excel file, but getting the error "'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine". Wonder if I should use lower version of OLEDB or Azure does not support OLEDB services at all. Before rewriting the program, just wanted to see if anyone knows a better alternative. I am using Visual Studio 2010 for my development. Thanks in Advance.

  • Looking for: C/C++ Regex library that supports Named Captures

    - by user318811
I'm thinking about writing a small application that will help me mass rename files. I currently use an application named 'RegexRenamer', which (I'm assuming) uses the .NET regex engine. The application is fine, but is sort of clunky. So what I'm looking for is a C/C++ regex library that I can build my custom program off of. Anything that is small and lightweight is preferred (.Net seems heavy). Thanks.

  • Suppressing "extra ';'" error in GCC when -pedantic is on

    - by Roman D
Hi all, I'm building my program with -pedantic flag, which causes an extra ';' error (because of a third-party header using a few macros inconsistently; the error is not shown when -pedantic is off). I don't really feel like turning -pedantic off, and neither do I want to edit the header. Is there any way to suppress this exact error? Like a -Wno-annoying-semicolon-error compiler switch or something?

  • How can I decompress a gzip stream with zlib?

    - by Greg Hewgill
Gzip format files (created with the gzip program, for example) use the "deflate" compression algorithm, which is the same compression algorithm as what zlib uses. However, when using zlib to inflate a gzip compressed file, the library returns a Z_DATA_ERROR. How can I use zlib to decompress a gzip file?

  • Removing file locks in Windows and Java

    - by Jack
I have a Java program that opens a file using the RandomAccessFile class. I'd like to be able to rename that file while it is opened by Java. In Unix, this isn't a problem. Does anyone know how I can do this in Windows? Should I set Java to open it a certain way? Thanks in advance.

  • Are you a self taught programmer or did you take a programming course?

    - by workinprogress
Lots of developers I know were self taught programmers including me. I was wondering how much of the developer community learned programming by taking a course in school or by experimenting, asking questions on forums, reading online articles, and just making it up as you go along? Post whether you were self taught or took classes, what language you program in, and anything else that may be interesting. P.S. Books count as self taught.

  • do I need to close an audio Clip?

    - by Michael
have an application that processes real-time data and is supposed to beep when a certain event occurs. The triggering event can occur multiple times per second, and if the beep is already playing when another event triggers the code is just supposed to ignore it (as opposed to interrupting the current beep and starting a new one). Here is the basic code: Clip clickClip public void prepareProcess() { super.prepareProcess(); clickClip = null; try { clipFile = new File("C:/WINDOWS/Media/CHIMES.wav"); ais = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(clipFile); clickClip = AudioSystem.getClip(); clickClip.open(ais); fileIsLoaded = true; } catch (Exception ex) { clickClip = null; fileIsLoaded = false; } } public void playSound() { if (fileIsLoaded) { if ((clickClip==null) || (!clickClip.isRunning())) { try { clickClip.setFramePosition(0); clickClip.start(); } catch (Exception ex) { System.out.println("Cannot play click noise"); ex.printStackTrace(); } } } The prepareProcess method gets run once in the beginning, and the playSound method is called every time a triggering event occurs. My question is: do I need to close the clickClip object? I know I could add an actionListener to monitor for a Stop event, but since the event occurs so frequently I'm worried the extra processing is going to slow down the real-time data collection. The code seems to run fine, but my worry is memory leaks. The code above is based on an example I found while searching the net, but the example used an actionListener to close the Clip specifically "to eliminate memory leaks that would occur when the stop method wasn't implemented". My program is intended to run for hours so any memory leaks I have will cause problems. I'll be honest: I have no idea how to verify whether or not I've got a problem. I'm using Netbeans, and running the memory profiler just gave me a huge list of things that I don't know how to read. This is supposed to be the simple part of the program, and I'm spending hours on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Michael

  • Event Handling in Chaco

    - by awegawef
When hovering over a data point in Chaco, I would like a small text box to appear, with the text I desire. Also, when I click on a data point (or close enough), I would like my program to take a certain action. I have seen relevant parts of the Chaco documentation, but implementing them has proved difficult. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • How does assembly language interact with something like the Internet?

    - by Maulrus
So I was thinking about languages the other day, and it struck me that any program written in a compiled language that interacts with the Internet is then translated into assembly that has to interact with the Internet. I've just begun learning a bit of x86 assembly to help me understand C++ a bit better, and I'm baffled by how something so low-level could do something like access the Internet. I'm sure the full answer to this question is much more than would fit in a SO answer, but could somebody give me maybe a basic summary?

  • jcuda library usage problem

    - by user513164
hi m very new to java and Linux i have a code which is taken from examples of jcuda.the code is following import jcuda.CUDA; import jcuda.driver.CUdevprop; import jcuda.driver.types.CUdevice; public class EnumDevices { public static void main(String args[]) { //Init CUDA Driver CUDA cuda = new CUDA(true); int count = cuda.getDeviceCount(); System.out.println("Total number of devices: " + count); for (int i = 0; i < count; i++) { CUdevice dev = cuda.getDevice(i); String name = cuda.getDeviceName(dev); System.out.println("Name: " + name); int version[] = cuda.getDeviceComputeCapability(dev); System.out.println("Version: " + String.format("%d.%d", version[0], version[1])); CUdevprop prop = cuda.getDeviceProperties(dev); System.out.println("Clock rate: " + prop.clockRate + " MHz"); System.out.println("Threads per block: " + prop.maxThreadsPerBlock); } } } I'm using Ubuntu as my operating system i compiled it with following command 1:-javac -cp /home/manish.yadav/Desktop/JCuda-All-0.3.2-bin-linux-x86_64 EnumDevices i got following error error: Class names, 'EnumDevices', are only accepted if annotation processing is explicitly requested 1 error i don't know what is the meaning of this error.what should i do to compile the program than i changed the compiling option which is javac -cp /home/manish.yadav/Desktop/JCuda-All-0.3.2-bin-linux-x86_64 EnumDevices.java than i got following error EnumDevices.java:36: clockRate is not public in jcuda.driver.CUdevprop; cannot be accessed from outside package System.out.println("Clock rate: " + prop.clockRate + " MHz"); ^ EnumDevices.java:37: maxThreadsPerBlock is not public in jcuda.driver.CUdevprop; cannot be accessed from outside package System.out.println("Threads per block: " + prop.maxThreadsPerBlock); ^ 2 errors Now I'm completely confused i don't know what to do? how to compile this program ? how to install the jcuda package or how to use it ? how to use package which have only jar files and .so files and the jar files don't having manifest file ? please help me

  • Programming graphics and sound on PC - Total newbie questions, and lots of them!

    - by Russel
Hello, This isn't exactly specifically a programming question (or is it?) but I was wondering: How are graphics and sound processed from code and output by the PC? My guess for graphics: There is some reserved memory space somewhere that holds exactly enough room for a frame of graphics output for your monitor. IE: 800 x 600, 24 bit color mode == 800x600x3 = ~1.4MB memory space Between each refresh, the program writes video data to this space. This action is completed before the monitor refresh. Assume a simple 2D game: the graphics data is stored in machine code as many bytes representing color values. Depending on what the program(s) being run instruct the PC, the processor reads the appropriate data and writes it to the memory space. When it is time for the monitor to refresh, it reads from each memory space byte-for-byte and activates hardware depending on those values for each color element of each pixel. All of this of course happens crazy-fast, and repeats x times a second, x being the monitor's refresh rate. I've simplified my own likely-incorrect explanation by avoiding talk of double buffering, etc Here are my questions: a) How close is the above guess (the three steps)? b) How could one incorporate graphics in pure C++ code? I assume the practical thing that everyone does is use a graphics library (SDL, OpenGL, etc), but, for example, how do these libraries accomplish what they do? Would manual inclusion of graphics in pure C++ code (say, a 2D spite) involve creating a two-dimensional array of bit values (or three dimensional to include multiple RGB values per pixel)? Is this how it would be done waaay back in the day? c) Also, continuing from above, do libraries such as SDL etc that use bitmaps actual just build the bitmap/etc files into machine code of the executable and use them as though they were build in the same matter mentioned in question b above? d) In my hypothetical step 3 above, is there any registers involved? Like, could you write some byte value to some register to output a single color of one byte on the screen? Or is it purely dedicated memory space (=RAM) + hardware interaction? e) Finally, how is all of this done for sound? (I have no idea :) )
