• Issue Implementing Colorbox Correctly in IE (all versions)

  I've been pulling my hair out (and going way over allotted hours) to try and figure out why Colorbox isn't working properly on the following page: http://www.fiberforge.com I've set up a Colorbox test link on the very bottom right that says "Web Design By All Web Cafe", which should open up a small logo image. In Firefox, Safari, etc the modal behaves as it should, opening center center above all of the existing on-page content. In IE, not only is the modal not centered, but it appears as though it's not obeying absolute positioning and pushing all of the existing on-page content down below. Add to that the fact that it's not opening to the correct size and creating scrollbars next to the modal image, and we have ourselves one ugly modal. The scrollbars I can live with (by just resizing the min-height of the modal), but I can't figure out why it won't center. Let me say that I did not code this site initially and it was completed quite a few years ago, so there are quite probably numerous CSS hacks to get things to display properly, any number of which may be causing this problem. By contrast, Thickbox is also set up on this site (if you click on the "Play Video" callout in the dark blue area) and behaves correctly, though suffers from some weird sizing/padding issues, hence the desire to replace it with something a bit more modern and extensible. I can verify that there is no conflict having both of these modal scripts/CSS files concurrently as the problem still occurs with Colorbox even when Thickbox is removed entirely. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• GCC/X86, Problems with relative jumps

  I'm trying to do a relative jump in x86 assembly, however I can not get it to work. It seems that for some reason my jump keeps getting rewritten as an absolute jump or something. A simple example program for what I'm trying to do is this: .global main main: jmp 0x4 ret Since the jmp instruction is 4 bytes long and a relative jump is offset from the address of the jump + 1, this should be a fancy no-op. However, compiling and running this code will cause a segmentation fault. The real puzzler for me is that compiling it to the object level and then disassembling the object file shows that it looks like the assembler is correctly doing a relative jump, but after the file gets compiled the linker is changing it into another type of jump. For example if the above code was in a file called asmtest.s: $gcc -c asmtest.s $objdump -D asmtest.o ... Some info from objdump 00000000 <main>: 0: e9 00 00 00 00 jmp 5 <main+0x5> 5: c3 ret This looks like the assembler correctly made a relative jump, although it's suspicious that the jmp instruction is filled with 0s. I then used gcc to link it then disassembled it and got this: $gcc -o asmtest asmtest.o $objdump -d asmtest ...Extra info and other disassembled functions 08048394 <main>: 8048394: e9 6b 7c fb f7 jmp 4 <_init-0x8048274> 8048399: c3 ret This to me looks like the linker rewrote the jmp statement, or substituted the 5 in for another address. So my question comes down to, what am I doing wrong? Am I specifying the offset incorrectly? Am I misunderstanding how relative jumps work? Is gcc trying to make sure I don't do dangerous things in my code?

• Raphael SVG VML Implement Multi Pivot Points for Rotation

  Over the last two days I've effectively figured out how NOT to rotate Raphael Elements. Basically I am trying to implement a multiple pivot points on element to rotate it by mouse. When a user enters rotation mode 5 pivots are created. One for each corner of the bounding box and one in the center of the box. When the mouse is down and moving it is simple enough to rotate around the pivot using Raphael elements.rotate(degrees, x, y) and calculating the degrees based on the mouse positions and atan2 to the pivot point. The problem arises after I've rotated the element, bbox, and the other pivots. There x,y position in the same only there viewport is different. In an SVG enabled browser I can create new pivot points based on matrixTransformation and getCTM. However after creating the first set of new pivots, every rotation after the pivots get further away from the transformed bbox due to rounding errors. The above is not even an option in IE since in is VML based and cannot account for transformation. Is the only effective way to implement element rotation is by using rotate absolute or rotating around the center of the bounding box? Is it possible at all the create multi pivot points for an object and update them after mouseup to remain in the corners and center of the transformed bbox?

  I hope this makes sense: my business sells a website template, we currently have about 10,000 users. For various reasons that are unimportant to this question, I try to keep the file size of the zipped template we give them as small as possible. Because of this, I have taken a bunch of images and a couple of static files used by the template and moved them to external hosting. They are referenced by absolute URL in the css and markup, instead of shipping all of those images and files with every template. So, basically 10,000+ and growing users are requesting images and files from a third-party host. I don't use my own webhosting for this because I still kind of use a medium-cheap shared hosting for my website, and if it goes down, 10,000+ users are potentially effected. Currently I'm having the template directly access files inside of an open-source google-code project that I created for just this purpose. But, that seems like a bastardization of what a google-code repository is for, and plus, google code (i've found out) often spews 502 bad gateway errors for hours at a time. So, anyway, my question is: where is the right kind of place to host these? Obviously I'm willing to pay. My main needs are speed and uptime, since the images and files are being requested from thousands of different websites every day. Is this something that I should use Amazon S3 for? I'm guessing there's some kind of service exactly for this kind of need, but I'm at a loss to figure out what it is.

• I need a true mouseOver...

  Ok, so mouseOver and RollOver, and their respective outs work great as long as your mouse is actually over the item, or one of it's children. My problem is that I may have another UI component "between" my mouse and the item I want to process the mouse/rollover(maybe a button that is on top of a canvas, but is not a child of the canvas). The mouse is still over the component, there's just something else that it's over at the same time. Any tips or help how to deal with this? Let me know if I'm not being clear enough. • Ignore LD_LIBRARY_PATH and stick with library given through -rpath at link time

  I'm sitting in an environment which I have no real control over (it's not just me, so basically, I can't change the environment or it won't work for anyone else), the only thing I can affect is how the binary is built. My problem is, the environment specifies an LD_LIBRARY_PATH containing a libstdc++ which is not compatible with the compiler being used. I tried compiling it statically, but that doesn't seem possible for g++ (version 4.2.3, seems to have been work done in this direction in later versions though which are not available, -static-libstdc++ or something like that). Now I've arrived at using rpath to bake the absolute path name into the executable (would work, all machines it's supposed to run on are identical). Unfortunately it appears as though LD_LIBRARY_PATH takes precedence over rpath (resetting LD_LIBRARY_PATH confirmed that it's able to find the library, but as stated above, LD_LIBRARY_PATH will be set for everyone, and I cannot change that). Is there any way I can make rpath take precedence over LD_LIBRARY_PATH, or are there any other possible solutions to my problem? Note that I'm talking about dynamic linking at runtime, I am able to control the command line at compile and link time. Thanks.

• Firefox/vista not showing div tag

  Hi, I have a div tag which should be displayed at the bottom of a page given a set of circumstances. On my machine XP/IE, chrome, firefox, opera (all latest versions) the div shows up fine. But on my bosses machine, running vista with Firefox 3.6 for some reason the div tag is not showing up. However, if i go to another machine with vista and firefox the div tag shows up fine. My question is, what could have been set in firefox that would cause this div tag to now be displayed. • Retrieve property from classpath inside POM

  For my current project I want to integrate a maven plug-in for database migrations. For this plug-in to work, however, I have to obtain the database settings inside my POM. My database settings are currently placed inside a hibernate.properties file, positioned in a directory that is marked as maven resource. For a variety of reasons I do not want to duplicate my database configurations in both the pom and hibernate.properties. I'm aware that maven offers a "filtering" ability which makes it possible to specify the database settings as property inside my POM, and reference them inside my hibernate.properties as ${property_name}. But as I'm using multiple maven profiles, with different property resources, this is not a suitable solution. Instead I'd like my database configurations to be loaded from a property file inside my classpath (e.g. classpath:hibernate.properties), and use these properties in my migration plug-in configuration. I have already tried the org.codehaus.mojo » properties-maven-plugin, but this plug-in only accepts absolute locations. Is there a plug-in which can scan all my maven resources for a certain property?

• How to store a file on a server(web container) through a Java EE web application?

  I have developed a Java EE web application. This application allows a user to upload a file with the help of a browser. Once the user has uploaded his file, this application first stores the uploaded file on the server (on which it is running) and then processes it. Now, the problem is that it is running fine on some servers but on some servers the getServlet().getServletContext().getRealPath("") is returning null so the final path that I am getting is null/filename and the file doesn't store on the server. When I checked the API for ServletContext.getRealPath() method, I found the following: public java.lang.String getRealPath(java.lang.String path) Returns a String containing the real path for a given virtual path. For example, the path "/index.html" returns the absolute file path on the server's filesystem would be served by a request for "http://host/contextPath/index.html", where contextPath is the context path of this ServletContext. The real path returned will be in a form appropriate to the computer and operating system on which the servlet container is running, including the proper path separators. This method returns null if the servlet container cannot translate the virtual path to a real path for any reason (such as when the content is being made available from a .war archive). So, Is there any other way by which I can store files on those servers also which is returning null for getServlet().getServletContext().getRealPath("")

  I'm trying to read in an xml file which looks like this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!DOCTYPE dblp SYSTEM "dblp.dtd"> <dblp> <incollection> <author>Jos&eacute; A. Blakeley</author> </incollection> </dblp> The point that creates the problem looks is the Jos&eacute; A. Blakeley part: The parser calls its character handler twice, once with "Jos", once with " A. Blakeley". Now I understand this may be the correct behaviour if it doesn't know the eacute entity. However, this is defined in the dblp.dtd, which I have. I don't seem to be able to convince expat to use this file, though. All I can say is p = xml.parsers.expat.ParserCreate() # tried with and without following line p.SetParamEntityParsing(xml.parsers.expat.XML_PARAM_ENTITY_PARSING_ALWAYS) p.UseForeignDTD(True) f = open(dblp_file, "r") p.ParseFile(f) but expat still doesn't recognize my entity. Why is there no way to tell expat which DTD to use? I've tried putting the file into the same directory as the XML putting the file into the program's working directory replacing the reference in the xml file by an absolute path What am I missing? They are named after their UNIX counterparts and do some basic testing so that the application does not need to bother with that.

ItemID is set to auto increment. But once I set it, and run this code I get an error that says I've got a duplicate primary key 'ItemID'. I'm not sure what's going on - this is my first foray into master/detail, so something may be setup wrong. I'm using ComponentAce's Absolute Database for this project. How can I get this to insert properly? Update Ok, I removed the primary key restraint in my db, and I see that for some reason, the autoincrement feature of the OutputItems table isn't working like I expected. Here's how the OutputItems table looks after running the above code: ItemID|PackageID| 1 |1 | 1 |1 | 2 |2 | 2 |2 | I still don't see why all the ItemID values aren't unique.... Any ideas?

• howto distinguish composition and self-typing use-cases

  Scala has two instruments for expressing object composition: original self-type concept and well known trivial composition. I'm curios what situations I should use which in. There are obvious differences in their applicability. Self-type requires you to use traits. Object composition allows you to change extensions on run-time with var declaration. Leaving technical details behind I can figure two indicators to help with classification of use cases. If some object used as combinator for a complex structure such as tree or just have several similar typed parts (1 car to 4 wheels relation) than it should use composition. There is extreme opposite use case. Lets assume one trait become too big to clearly observe it and it got split. It is quite natural that you should use self-types for this case. That rules are not absolute. You may do extra work to convert code between this techniques. e.g. you may replace 4 wheels composition with self-typing over Product4. You may use Cake[T <: MyType] {part : MyType} instead of Cake { this : MyType => } for cake pattern dependencies. But both cases seem counterintuitive and give you extra work. There are plenty of boundary use cases although. One-to-one relations is very hard to decide with. Is there any simple rule to decide what kind of technique is preferable? self-type makes you classes abstract, composition makes your code verbose. self-type gives your problems with blending namespaces and also gives you extra typing for free (you got not just a cocktail of two elements but gasoline-motor oil cocktail known as a petrol bomb). How can I choose between them? What hints are there? Update: Let us discuss the following example: Adapter pattern. What benefits it has with both selt-typing and composition approaches?

• How VerticalOffset changes when Scrollable height changes while having list inside a list

  I am making a WP7 app which has a Listbox of UserControls. Each UserControl has an ItemsControl and Button(for getting more results). On click of the button the ItemsControl items will be increased by 5 or 10. Now on clicking on the GetMore button of any of the usercontrols except the first or last, there will be an increase in Scrollable height(Total height of the listbox) of the ListBox but the VerticalOffset(position of scrollbar from top) of the ListBox remains same. Now the problem I am facing is that the Vertical Offset is not absolute but relative to Scrollable Height. So the content being viewed till then will be changed basing on the new value of ScollableHeight. I want to know the relation between them, so that I can do some math and set the VerticalOffset value. I have added some dependency properties on VerticalOffset and ScrollableHeight through which I can get the events when any of them is changed. Also trying to use them to readjust the VerticalOffset. Any suggestions or corrections are highly appreciated.

• ASP.NET "Object reference not set..." error

  Hi, I have a website written using ASP.NET. We have a development machine and a deployment server. The site works great on the development machine, but when is transfered (using simple FTP Upload) generates strange behavior. It starts working just fine, but after a while stops working and throws an exception "Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.".   Hi there This code works in every other browser I've tried, except IE8. IE8 appears to ignore the z-index - and the pop-up becomes a pop-under.   I use the Jquery UI slider control. My slider has a width of 200px. I would like the center of my left handle is shifted 14px to the right and the center of my right handle is offset to the left of 14px. So, my good slider will more than 172px (200-14-14). The background-image measure good 200px. The length of 14px is calculated as follows: width of the handle (28px) / 2. Can you help me solve this mystery? • Flex: How to access movieclips within an imported swf

  Hello, I have imported a swf (not created with Flex, i.e. non-framework) into a Flex application. Once loaded, I would like to access movieclips within that imported swf. Looking at Adobe's docs (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=controls_15.html), it seems straightforward; however, their examples are between a Flex app and an imported swf (created with Flex). Like their example, I'm trying to use the SystemManager to access the imported swf's content; however, I receive the following error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::MovieClip@58ca241 to mx.managers.SystemManager. Is this error occurring because I'm importing a non-framework swf into a framework swf? Thanks in advance for any assistance. • speed string search in PHP

  Hi! I have a 1.2GB file that contains a one line string. What I need is to search the entire file to find the position of an another string (currently I have a list of strings to search). The way what I'm doing it now is opening the big file and move a pointer throught 4Kb blocks, then moving the pointer X positions back in the file and get 4Kb more. My problem is that a bigger string to search, a bigger time he take to got it. • IE not rendering div contents

  I've written an app using HTML 5 and I wan't to show an error box instead of the page when someone visits from IE. When it detects navigator.appName as Microsoft Internet Explorer it hides everything and shows the error div that started out hidden. We suggest <a href='http://www.google.com/chrome'>Google Chrome</a>!</p> </center> </div> The problem is that when I visit the page in IE, the div pops up with the border, but it has no contents. Nothing is inside of it. I went to view->source and looked at it, and the code is still there, but none of it is rendered. How do I fix this?

  When you embed a Google Map on a web page, copyright text is included on the map. I’ve tried using jQuery to select this HTML based on its contents (using :contains()), but it doesn’t seem to work in IE 8 (which is odd, as it works fine in IE 7). Any idea what’s up with IE 8? Any other methods to achieve the same result?
