  • Compress, enctypt and upload a directory to an FTP server in Linux

    - by Kristoffer L
I want to acomplish something rather simple (at least it would seem to be): Compress a directory Encrypt the compressed file Upload the compressed & encrypted file via FTP I also want to acomplish this in an automated fashion on Linux server. TrueCrypt is not really an option as it seems it can't complress a single file, instead you have to make a volume that you mount and move the files into. This question answers how to do the the upload and I know how to compress a directory. It is just the encryption that's giving me problems.

  • How do I SCP/FTP to a Coraid SR2421

    - by Pitto
I need to save data to a Coraid SR2421. I am no expert and I'm trying to understand how this costy piece of hardware works. All I have is a Ethernet cable connecting my laptop and the coraid to a switch and the coraid's console with cursor blinking. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. edit and further explanation: I've tried using software on the coraid website but It's not working. So I've contacted the support and they sent me a file to upload on the coraid. It looks like if I upgrade coraid's firmware then I'll be able to use the coraid software on the windows side. That's why I'd need SCP/FTP or any kind of solution to copy a file in the partition that can be read from coraid console command line so I can launch the update command as requested. I hope I was a bit clearer now.

  • Server 2003 answers ping, but wont serve http, ftp, smtp or pop3

    - by Manfred
After reboot, my server wont respond to any incoming request until it is rebooted again. Then, about 5-6 hrs later, any website on it will return a ping, but it will not serve the page, nor will it serve ftp, pop3 or smtp requests. The System log shows W3SVC errors 1014 and 1074, which relate to an Application pool not replying; I have one phpAdmin app pool which I have stopped - it is showing a solitary website as the default App, but the server no longer serves php extensions, and I can't transfer the default website to another pool to kill the whole app pool. I would appreciate your help.

  • "svchost.exe cannot be allowed through firewall" ftp server

    - by Anthony
Alright here's my problem iv recently set up an ftp server and everything works fine except when i try to allow svchost.exe through the firewall, I get the error message "windows cannot allow svchost through firewall". If i disable the firewall there are no problems but i would rather have the firewall up (for obvious reasons) can anyone please tell me why it is not allowing the application through the firewall and how to fix? Or what i may have done wrong to receive this message as all the tutorials iv seen do not have this issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • FTP error when doing file transfer

    - by Ernie
I'm running vsftpd version 3.0.2 over FTPeS, and I'm having a bit of trouble with file transfers. It seems to work fine when I'm on the LAN, but not from an external IP address. I have the control port and data ports open on my server's software firewall and my router's firewall. When I'm using the service from an external IP address, it seems like sometimes a file transfer will complete, but it times out and I always get the client error: "426 Failure writing network stream". I've tried several clients. I'm thinking there is some sort of data sabotage either at the router or some server policy; maybe because I'm using passive ftp? Suggestions?

  • Host a Debian repository on a Windows Web/Ftp server

    - by Dave
At the risk of causing a matter vs. antimatter paradox that would end the world as we know it ... Is it possible to host a Debian repository on a Windows server? We have some applications which are available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Our web site, from where the application can be downloaded, is a Windows Server 2008 box running IIS 7. That is not going to change, and I would like to avoid having to purchase another server and/or domain. I would like to take advantage of the Debian packaging system so that I can just instruct users to add our repository to their software sources, and then they can install, get updates, resolve dependencies (some of which are not yet in the stable/main distributions of my target platforms), etc. The instructions I can find on the internet require linux-specific tools to create a local repository, but are unclear as to whether or not that can be copied to an FTP site as is, or if it requires some local daemons to be running or something.

  • FTP client hangs after a while

    - by lfbn
I'm using Linux Ubuntu 12.04 with curlftpfs to connect to a remote server. After mounting a remote ftp, opening and saving files with vim, list directories and files, for some time, after a while (no more of 30 minutes), with no reason it hangs. After opening other terminal tabs, all tabs remain iddle...but when using filezilla without restart the computer I still can get to the server and working with no problem. When using Nautilus, instead of curlftpfs, I'm having the same problem. After a while it hangs. Can anyone help me please?

  • JQUERY: Setting Active state on animated menu tabs

    - by Tony
I have image sprites that use JQuery to set the BG position on mouseover and mouseout events. When I set the active state BG position using JQUERY it works fine until I move my cursor away from the active 'tab' which then fires the mouseout event animation. What I want is the mouseClick event to stop the animation on the active tab but still allow the animation effect to work on the other tabs, and when another tab is clicked for the active state to be removed from the current tab to the new 'active' tab. JQuery $(function(){ /* This script changes main nav links hover state*/ $('.navigation a') .css( {backgroundPosition: "-1px -120px"} ) .mouseover(function(){ $(this).stop().animate({backgroundPosition:"(-1px -240px)"}, {duration:400}) }) .mouseout(function(){ $(this).stop().animate({backgroundPosition:"(-1px -120px)"}, {duration:400, complete:function (){ $(this).css({backgroundPosition: "-1px -120px"}) }}) }) }); $(document).ready(function(){ $("a").click(function(){ $(this).css({backgroundPosition: "-1px -235px"}); }); }); HTML <ul class="navigation"> <li><a href="#index" tabindex="10" title="Home" id="homeButton"></a></li> <li><a href="#about" tabindex="20" title="About us" id="aboutButton"></a></li> <li><a href="#facilities" tabindex="30" title="Our facilities and opening Times" id="facilitiesButton"></a></li> <li><a href="#advice" tabindex="40" title="Advice and useful links" c id="adviceButton"></a></li> <li><a href="#find" tabindex="50" title="How to find Us" id="findButton"></a></li> <li><a href="#contact" tabindex="60" title="Get in touch with us" id="contactButton"></a></li> </ul> You can see what I've got so far here Thanks in advance for any help

  • Screen overlay with Python, paint over an active window with background python script

    - by tvlife.admin
Hi I'm writing a python script that runs in the background and takes screenshots of another application that is active. Then it analyses the screenshots and now it should overlay a certain image over the active app or the screen. I still need to be able to make mouse and keyboard inputs in the active app. So I need a way to overlay/paint on another window or on the screen, and still keep the other window the active window so that I can make inputs. I would prefer to do that with python in Mac OS, but if it isn't possible, other languages and even Windows (if really necessary) would also be ok. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance!

  • How to Achieve Real-Time Data Protection and Availabilty....For Real

    - by JoeMeeks
There is a class of business and mission critical applications where downtime or data loss have substantial negative impact on revenue, customer service, reputation, cost, etc. Because the Oracle Database is used extensively to provide reliable performance and availability for this class of application, it also provides an integrated set of capabilities for real-time data protection and availability. Active Data Guard, depicted in the figure below, is the cornerstone for accomplishing these objectives because it provides the absolute best real-time data protection and availability for the Oracle Database. This is a bold statement, but it is supported by the facts. It isn’t so much that alternative solutions are bad, it’s just that their architectures prevent them from achieving the same levels of data protection, availability, simplicity, and asset utilization provided by Active Data Guard. Let’s explore further. Backups are the most popular method used to protect data and are an essential best practice for every database. Not surprisingly, Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is one of the most commonly used features of the Oracle Database. But comparing Active Data Guard to backups is like comparing apples to motorcycles. Active Data Guard uses a hot (open read-only), synchronized copy of the production database to provide real-time data protection and HA. In contrast, a restore from backup takes time and often has many moving parts - people, processes, software and systems – that can create a level of uncertainty during an outage that critical applications can’t afford. This is why backups play a secondary role for your most critical databases by complementing real-time solutions that can provide both data protection and availability. Before Data Guard, enterprises used storage remote-mirroring for real-time data protection and availability. Remote-mirroring is a sophisticated storage technology promoted as a generic infrastructure solution that makes a simple promise – whatever is written to a primary volume will also be written to the mirrored volume at a remote site. Keeping this promise is also what causes data loss and downtime when the data written to primary volumes is corrupt – the same corruption is faithfully mirrored to the remote volume making both copies unusable. This happens because remote-mirroring is a generic process. It has no  intrinsic knowledge of Oracle data structures to enable advanced protection, nor can it perform independent Oracle validation BEFORE changes are applied to the remote copy. There is also nothing to prevent human error (e.g. a storage admin accidentally deleting critical files) from also impacting the remote mirrored copy. Remote-mirroring tricks users by creating a false impression that there are two separate copies of the Oracle Database. In truth; while remote-mirroring maintains two copies of the data on different volumes, both are part of a single closely coupled system. Not only will remote-mirroring propagate corruptions and administrative errors, but the changes applied to the mirrored volume are a result of the same Oracle code path that applied the change to the source volume. There is no isolation, either from a storage mirroring perspective or from an Oracle software perspective.  Bottom line, storage remote-mirroring lacks both the smarts and isolation level necessary to provide true data protection. Active Data Guard offers much more than storage remote-mirroring when your objective is protecting your enterprise from downtime and data loss. Like remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is an exact block for block copy of the primary. Unlike remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is NOT a tightly coupled copy of the source volumes - it is a completely independent Oracle Database. Active Data Guard’s inherent knowledge of Oracle data block and redo structures enables a separate Oracle Database using a different Oracle code path than the primary to use the full complement of Oracle data validation methods before changes are applied to the synchronized copy. These include: physical check sum, logical intra-block checking, lost write validation, and automatic block repair. The figure below illustrates the stark difference between the knowledge that remote-mirroring can discern from an Oracle data block and what Active Data Guard can discern. An Active Data Guard standby also provides a range of additional services enabled by the fact that it is a running Oracle Database - not just a mirrored copy of data files. An Active Data Guard standby database can be open read-only while it is synchronizing with the primary. This enables read-only workloads to be offloaded from the primary system and run on the active standby - boosting performance by utilizing all assets. An Active Data Guard standby can also be used to implement many types of system and database maintenance in rolling fashion. Maintenance and upgrades are first implemented on the standby while production runs unaffected at the primary. After the primary and standby are synchronized and all changes have been validated, the production workload is quickly switched to the standby. The only downtime is the time required for user connections to transfer from one system to the next. These capabilities further expand the expectations of availability offered by a data protection solution beyond what is possible to do using storage remote-mirroring. So don’t be fooled by appearances.  Storage remote-mirroring and Active Data Guard replication may look similar on the surface - but the devil is in the details. Only Active Data Guard has the smarts, the isolation, and the simplicity, to provide the best data protection and availability for the Oracle Database. Stay tuned for future blog posts that dive into the many differences between storage remote-mirroring and Active Data Guard along the dimensions of data protection, data availability, cost, asset utilization and return on investment. • jCarousel - achieving an active state AND wrap:circular

    - by swisstony
Hey folks A while back I implemented the jCarousel image solution for a client that required a numbered active state. After a bit of googling a found the answer but noticed that the preferred circular option would not work. What would happen is that once the carousel had cycled through all its (5) images, upon the return to the first, the active state would be lost, because, according to jcarousel it was actually the 6th (the index just keeps on incrementing). I just went ahead and instead used wrap:'both' which at least had a correctly functioning active state. However now the client says they dont like this effect and simply want the animation to return to position 1 after the final image. This means I need to get'wrap: 'both' working somehow. Below is my current code. Can someone please solve this one, as its a little above my head! function highlight(carousel, obejctli, liindex, listate){ jQuery('.jcarousel-control a:nth-child('+ liindex +')').attr("class","active"); }; function removehighlight(carousel, obejctli, liindex, listate){ jQuery('.jcarousel-control a:nth-child('+ liindex +')').removeAttr("class","active"); }; jQuery('#mycarousel').jcarousel({ initCallback: mycarousel_initCallback, auto: 5, wrap: 'both', vertical: true, scroll: 1, buttonNextHTML: null, buttonPrevHTML: null, animation: 1000, itemVisibleInCallback: highlight, itemVisibleOutCallback: removehighlight }); }); Thanks in advance

  • Change css when tab has active class

    - by Yunowork
I'm trying to change the background colour of the <body> depending on what tab specific is active. When a tab is active, a class called 'st_view_active' is added onto the tab content. In the tab content I add a hidden div with the hex code of what my body background colour should be when that tab is active, my jQuery code looks like this: $(document).ready(function() { $(function(){ $('body').css('backgroundColor',$('.st_view_active').find('.background').text()); }); }); And my html code when the tab is active is following: <div class="tab-6 st_view st_view_active" > <div style="display:none" class="background">yellow</div> <div class="st_view_inner"> tab 6 </div> </div> So when tab6 is active the background of the body should be yellow. However, this is not working, the background colour is not changing, what am I doing wrong here? DEMO and JSfiddle Thanks PS: The red and blue square is the next and previous tab handler..

  • Active MQ showing more than one (ghost) consumer

    - by Shoey
We have a system that uses ActiveMQ (Queues) - and have exactly one producer and one consumer (implemented as a Windows Service in .NET). Over the weekend, the infrastructure team had a reboot of the servers on the network, and from then on we noticed that there are more than one ghost consumer appearing that listens to the queue and we also suspect reads and deletes the messages. My questions are: is there any way from the Active MQ management console to find out what the consumers are (hostnames, etc). and Are there any scenarios in which inadvertent consumers get 'created'? For instance, there were suggestions about the active MQ journal folders getting corrupted after a reboot, or there is another suggestion that another machine with Active MQ broker automatically makes itself a consumer of all the queues on the main/live active mq server.

  • Custom CSS menu, "Active" tab remains on 'Home' not the actual page

    - by user1690254
    I created this custom css menu, but when switching tabs, the "Active" tab design remains on the 'Home' link on the menu, rather than the actual page I'm on. Any idea how I an fix this? Here's the code: .menu{margin:0 auto; padding:0; height:30px; width:100%; display:block; background:url('http://media.datahc.com/Affiliates/43817/Brands/Image/topmenuimages.png') repeat-x;} .menu li{padding:0; margin:0; list-style:none; display:inline;} .menu li a{float:left; padding-left:15px; display:block; color:rgb(255,255,255); text-decoration:none; font:12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; cursor:pointer; background:url('http://media.datahc.com/Affiliates/43817/Brands/Image/topmenuimages.png') 0px -30px no-repeat;} .menu li a span{line-height:30px; float:left; display:block; padding-right:15px; background:url('http://media.datahc.com/Affiliates/43817/Brands/Image/topmenuimages.png') 100% -30px no-repeat;} .menu li a:hover{background-position:0px -60px; color:rgb(255,255,255);} .menu li a:hover span{background-position:100% -60px;} .menu li a.active, .menu li a.active:hover{line-height:30px; font:12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background:url('http://media.datahc.com/Affiliates/43817/Brands/Image/topmenuimages.png') 0px -90px no-repeat; color:rgb(255,255,255);} .menu li a.active span, .menu li a.active:hover span{background:url('http://media.datahc.com/Affiliates/43817/Brands/Image/topmenuimages.png') 100% -90px no-repeat;} <ul class="menu"> <li><a href="http://caribbeantl.com/"; class="active"><span>Home</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://caribbeantl.com/hotels/"><span>Testing post</span></a></li> </ul>

  • Can i change the identity of the logged in user in ASP.net?

    - by Rising Star
I have an ASP.net application I'm developing authentication for. I am using an existing cookie-based log on system to log users in to the system. The application runs as an anonymous account and then checks the cookie when the user wants to do something restricted. This is working fine. However, there is one caveat: I've been told that for each page that connects to our SQL server, I need to make it so that the user connects using an Active Directory account. because the system I'm using is cookie based, the user isn't logged in to Active Directory. Therefore, I use impersonation to connect to the server as a specific account. However, the powers that be here don't like impersonation; they say that it clutters up the code. I agree, but I've found no way around this. It seems that the only way that a user can be logged in to an ASP.net application is by either connecting with Internet Explorer from a machine where the user is logged in with their Active Directory account or by typing an Active Directory username and password. Neither of these two are workable in my application. I think it would be nice if I could make it so that when a user logs in and receives the cookie (which actually comes from a separate log on application, by the way), there could be some code run which tells the application to perform all network operations as the user's Active Directory account, just as if they had typed an Active Directory username and password. It seems like this ought to be possible somehow, but the solution evades me. How can I make this work?

  • Can't add client machine to windows server 2008 domain controller

    - by Patrick J Collins
A bit of background before I dive into the gritty details: I have a single server running Windows 2003 Server where I host my ASP.net website and SQL Server + Reports. I've been creating ordinary windows user accounts to authenticate my users, and I enabled integrated windows authentication with impersonation. I've set up a bunch of user groups which correspond to certain roles (admin, power user, normal user, etc) and I test membership to enable or disable certain features. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the solution, it was quick to setup and I don't have to worry about messing around storing passwords and whatnot. Well, what I'm trying to do now is set up a new environment with 3 servers (Web, SQL, Reports) and I'd like these three servers to share common user accounts. I understand that I could add these three machines to a domain, which means installing Active Directory on one of the machines. I am barking up the wrong tree here? Would you suggest an alternative configuration? Assuming that I stick with AD, I have a couple of questions regarding DNS. To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle around with the DNS settings because my ISP already has their own DNS server which works just fine. It would appear however that DNS and AD are intertwined. Firstly, if I am to create a new domain in called mycompany.net, do I actually need to be the registered owner of that domain name and ensure the DNS entry points to the IP address of the machine hosting AD? Secondly, for the two other machines that I am trying to add to the domain, do I need to fiddle with their DNS settings? I've tried setting the preferred DNS Server IP address to that of my newly installed AD, but no luck. At this point, I can't add the two other machines to the domain. Here are some diagnostics that I have run based on a few suggestions I read on forums (sorry they're in French, although I could translate if needed). I ran nltest, which seems to indicate that the client can discover the domain controller. When I run dcdiag, the call to DsGetDcName fails with error 1722, not really sure what that means. Any suggestions? Thanks! Le test Intersite de mycompany.net a réussi Update 1 : I am under the distinct impression that the problem is caused by some security settings. I have read elsewhere that the client needs to be able to access the fileshare sysvol. I had to enable Client for Microsoft Windows and File and Printer Sharing which were previously disabled. When I now run dcdiag the Advertising test works, which I suppose is forward progress. It currently chokes on the Services step (unable to open remote IPC). • Is there a simple way to make lists behave as files (with ftplib)

    - by Brent.Longborough
I'd like to use ftplib to upload program-generated data as lists. The nearest method I can see for doing this is ftp.storlines, but this requires a file object with a readlines() method. Obviously I could create a file, but this seems like overkill as the data isn't persistent. Is there anything that could do this?: session = ftp.new(...) upload = convertListToFileObject(mylist) session.storlines("STOR SOMETHING",upload) session.quit

  • Web site backup in PHP?

    - by Pekka
Does anybody know a clean PHP-based solution that can backup remote web sites using FTP? Must haves: Recursive FTP backups Possible to run through a cron job Easy to configure (easy adding of multiple sites) Local storage of backup files is sufficient Would be nice: Backed up sites are stored as zip files A nice interface to manage things Provides notification when backup has succeeded or failed Does incremental backups Does MySQL Database backups I need this to be PHP (or Perl) based because it's going to be used on shared hosting packages that do not allow usage of the standard GNU/Linux tools available.
