Outlook sends uninvited images as attachments

Outlook is always sending along 2 pictures (image001.png and image002.gif) with my mails. Even if I don't attach any images. How do I fix this? Thanks. Win8/7/XP print spooler not getting along with Zebra ZT230 via WIFI

I have a graphics-intensive 4"x6" label I'm printing to the ZT230. I'm printing multiple (10) copies. When connected via USB, all goes well. However, when connected via wifi, I only get 2 of the labels. A wireshark capture shows that at some point in the process my computer (presumably my windows spooler) is sending a reset packet, which, I believe, would pretty much kill the print job. I'm getting the same results on Win8, Win7 and WinXP. The print job was originally generated on Zebra's ZebraDesigner2 software. For easier diagnosis, I captured it to a .prn file. Convert Mac font to Windows format?

I have a font that was used on Mac OS X 10.5. Mac recognizes it as a font file. Windows Vista shows it as a "File". Changing the file extension doesn't work. I tried both .otf and .ttf and neither worked. (Surprise! I didn't thinks so, but I'd be a fool for asking if that was the answer, so I tried...) Perhaps I need to try a different extension? Are there any utilities to convert the font? A Windows equivalent? It's called Franco. (FrancoNormal, actually.) Thanks. EDIT: DFontSplitter didn't work. I saw something online about "data fork" and "resource fork" that has to match up. Can someone please explain that? Do I need both for a font conversion? What do I tell my graphic designer to send me? EDIT 2: The font doesn't work when downloaded to Mac OS X either. (A different machine from the original.) "Get Info" reveals that there is no file extension, leading me to believe that this is the newer font format. Where wold I find the the "data fork" and "resource fork" on the Mac? I want to be able to tell the designer exactly where to look. EDIT 3: DFontSplitter works on the original computer but not on my PC. I converted and emailed myself the fonts from the graphic designers laptop. I guess it has to do with the data being stored in a "fork" whatnot. Thanks, Matt for that article. Haproxy not properly passing on X-Forwarded-For header

I have backend web servers that receive requests by way of haproxy-nginx-fastcgi. The web app used to see multiple ip's coming through in the X-Forwarded-For header, chained together with commas (most original IP on the left). At some point in the recent past (just noticed, so not sure what caused it) something changed, and now I'm only seeing a single IP passed in the header to my web application. I've tried with haproxy 1.4.21 and 1.4.22 (recent upgrade) with the same behavior. Haproxy has the forwardfor header set: option forwardfor Nginx fastcgi_params config defines this header to be passed to the app: fastcgi_param HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR $http_x_forwarded_for; Anyone have any ideas on what might be going wrong here? EDIT: I just started logging the $http_x_forwarded_for variable in nginx logs, and nginx is only ever seeing a single IP, which shouldn't ever be the case, as we should always see our haproxy ip added in there, right? So, issue must either be in nginx handling of the variable coming in, or haproxy not building it properly. I'll keep digging... Monitoring outgoing messages using EXIM

I work as an IT guy in a law firm. I am recently asked to make a system wherein all the outgoing emails coming from our server to our clients will be put on hold first and wait for approval before it gets sent to the client. Our mail server uses Exim (that's what it says in cPanel). I am planning to create filters where the outgoing emails will be forwarded to an editor account. Then, the editor will review and edit the contents of the email. When the editor already approves the email, it will then get sent to the client by the editor but still using the original sender in the "From:" and "Reply-To:" field. I found some pointers from this site = http://www.devco.net/archives/2006/03/24/saving_copies_of_all_email_using_exim.php. Once the filters are in place, I want to make a simple PHP interface for the editor to check the forwarded emails and edit them if necessary. The editor can then click on an "Approve" button that will finally deliver the message using the original sender. I'm also thinking that maybe a PHP-less system will be enough. The editor can receive the emails from his own email client edit them and simply send the email as if he is the original sender. Is my plan feasible? Will there be issues that I have overlooked? Does it have the danger of being treated as spam by the other mailservers since I'll be messing up the headers?

Annoying trackpad freeze on MacBook [solved]

NOTE: Question marked answered because it was forced after being put up for bounty. Actual solution was to have Apple repair it. Trackpad usually works, but sometimes stops responding for around 5 seconds and then suddenly starts working again. Seems to happen when I switch between typing and moving + button-clicking and also when I do a lot of double-clicking. Tried turning off the "Ignore accidental trackpad input". Apple replaced the keyboard/mouse under warranty. Problem remains. Any ideas? Edit: White non-unibody Late-2008 13" MacBook - fully up-to-date OS. Doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged in or not. Edit: Updated to Snow Leopard - seems to have made it worse. Edit: Applying even a little pressure to the left palm rest creates this condition. Apple replaced the top case again and this time it seems to have fixed it. Although, it looks like they may have added a spacer on the left palm rest to "fix" it.

ESXi Guests will not boot on IBM x3550 M3

I have a problem with Guests not booting under VMWare ESXi 5.0 on my IBM x3550M3 server. VM Host Server: IBM x3550 M3 7944AC1 server w/ 2x Intel Xeon E5607 2.27Ghz CPUs ESXi 5.0.0 Build 623860, built for IBM Hardware downloaded from IBM Storage: 2x500GB SAS local storage 8GB RAM Vt is verified to be ENABLED Server Health Status: Normal The ESXi host boots just fine. The Client connects just fine. Guests can be configured but do not successfully boot. The initial guest memory consumption jumps up to 560MB and drops down to 40MB after a few seconds. Initial CPU usage is 1 full CPU (3000Ghz per the chart) and immediately drops downm to 29Mhz. Guests do not display any output in the Console tab but show a state of 'Powered On'. VMs are listed as Version 7 and the behavior is duplicated across all availabled Guest OS flavors. Problem also duplicated when server is booted up in Legacy Only mode. Logs do not contain anything particularly suspucious. Edit: No firewalls, routers, or VLANs in between the client and server. Edit 2: We have tried to Boot Guest into BIOS screen at Next Boot checkbox in the Guest Setting. Was not successful. Edit 3: 500GB datastore with 1 40GB VM on it. Plenty of space.

Can't access certain web sites - reset router, any ideas?

EDIT: This problem was resolved by my ISP - had to do with damaged fiber in one of their locations. Thanks to everyone that helped. Not sure if this is the right site (I'm a StackOverflow user) so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm having trouble connecting to certain sites on any of the 3 machines that are on my LAN. The following sites are returning "Problem Loading Page - The connection has timed out" Sourceforge.net CNet.com Microsoft.com OpenDNS.com even my company's webiste I was worried about possible malware/virus, but I don't think that is the case (given the inability to access my company's site and the fact that all 3 machines are having the same issues.) I've tried with IE8, FF, and Chrome I have reset my router (WRT54G) and my machine(s) multiple times. EDIT: It is also worth noting that this page spins constantly and no avatars show up (I'm assuming it is trying to access gravatar.com with no success.) EDIT: I have the same issues directly connected to the modem. So, any router config is probably not the issue I'm a programmer, not a network guy - any ideas?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Error 15401 when trying to add a domain user

I am trying to add a domain user. I am doing the following. Expand Security Right click on Logins Select New Login... Login name select search Click on location and select entire directory Type username Click checkname The name goes underlined and add some more info Click OK Click OK I then get the following error: I have found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324321. The Login does exist There is no Duplicate security identifiers Authentication failure I don't think is happening as I can browse AD Case sensitivity should not be the problem as I am doing the checkname and it is correcting it. Not a Local account Name resolution again I can see the AD I have rebooted the server (VM) and the issue is still happening. Any ideas? Work from home on an iPad?

The situation: My wife has a 13" MacBook Pro that she uses for email, Facebook, web surfing, and working from home. I'm about to buy us our first iPad. My wife's brother's computer just went belly-up, and she's contemplating giving him her MacBook and just using the iPad. The question is whether or not this is possible or realistic. Obviously, the iPad is well-suited for the email/web/Facebook tasks, but the working-from-home thing is an absolute must -- if the iPad can't handle that, it's a deal-breaker. For my wife, working from home means two things: Accessing her workplace computer's Windows Vista desktop, which she currently does via Remote Desktop. Editing Office documents locally, which she currently syncs via Dropbox. Being able to edit documents locally is important, because sometimes she will download documents and edit them when she doesn't have network access (e.g. on the subway). I'm more than happy to get a keyboard dock for her, so typing won't be an issue. Are there any iPad apps she can use to access her work computer and edit her work files? Thanks for any suggestions!

Auto-rotate rotated images with mogrify

Some of my images have been taken rotated but kept this data. The problem is that, when using mogrify to convert them from JPG to png, that data seems to dissapear. For showing this problem, I think the best is to show the script and an screenshot. Script with the code. Put it in a text file, give it execution permission, double click, run (from terminal if you wish) and wait a while. All the JPGs in that folder will be converted to png. #! /bin/bash echo "Converting JPG to png. Please don't close this window." mogrify -alpha on -format png *.JPG mogrify -alpha on -format -alpha on png *.jpg It works great and adds an alpha channel. This is personally useful when I edit them later, not to add the channel individually. Now the screenshot that illustrates the problem: As you can see, the original ones' (JPGs) preview is right, the modified preview is wrong, the Shotwell rendering is right and the GIMP edit is wrong and didn't even say the image was rotated, as it uses to do with other images. How can I edit my script to preserve the orientation?

Emails not sending from outlook / OWA - Not even hitting the mail queue in exchange

We are having an issue this morning where we can receive external emails but cannot send internal or external ones from Outlook or OWA. If I use: Send-MailMessage –From <[email protected]> –To <[email protected]> –Subject “Test #01”-Body “Just a test message.” –SMTPServer <Server-Name> –Credential <domain\user> the email is sent correctly which makes me think there is a connection issue with OWA and Outlook. However, outlook is reporting as Connected with exchange. I have checked the message tracking in exchange tools and emails sent via outlook and OWA do not appear. Nothing has changed on the server on the weekend so I don't really know where to start debugging this issue. We are using Windows SBS 2011. We only have one send connector which isn't using Smart Hosts and is set to use DNS MX records. Use external DNS is not checked and I can ping google.com etc so doesn't appear to be a DNS issue (plus the email sends from the console anyway). EDIT It appears that users using IMAP can send emails correctly, its only ones that rely on the normal exchange connection type that don't work. EDIT Emails from IMAP are hitting the email queue's where as emails from the normal exchange accounts aren't. EDIT It seems that some of the emails we tried to send yesterday sent at about 1am but now it won't work again..

How can I use my cell phone to establish a dial-up networking connection?

I am using Windows 7 and have a BlackBerry with T-Mobile (U.S.). I have paired the phone with my computer over Bluetooth, which automatically creates a serial port for it. I am able to open the port in PuTTY and successfully issue AT commands to the modem, including dialing. However, while using Windows to create and establish a Dial-Up Networking connection, I get an error dialog stating "Error 678. The remote computer did not respond." In my testing, I also tried setting up a connection to dial a number connected to a phone. When attempting to connect over this connection, the phone does ring but the very moment I answer the call, my computer displays the above error dialog. What must be done to successfully establish such a PPP connection? Some special AT initialization string perhaps? To clarify, I'm not referring to the well-described and popular technique known as "tethering," in which the remote host of the data link is the mobile service provider. I am interested specifically in establishing direct data links with remote hosts other than my mobile service provider. Think old-school landline connection to your friend's computer or BBS. Edit 1 As grawity pointed out in comments, the missing piece of the puzzle is the actual modulator that is compatible with v-series protocols, which I expected to be built into the cellphone. So far the best only software alternative I could find is this experimental project. Edit 2 Found this forum discussion today. The participants state that there is no old-school modem in the BlackBerry. Edit 3 When I place a call in PuTTY with ATD, immediately after the call is answered (and the callee is initiating the handshake) the cellphone returns OK. This is not the expected behavior for establishing a data connection. The phone should reciprocate the handshake, and upon success return CONNECT. (Alternatively it should return BUSY or NO CARRIER, but never simply OK.) Windows DUN must be interpreting this as the "Error 678" I was seeing.

I need to install a package. For that I need root access. However the system says that I am not in sudoers file. When trying to edit one, it complains alike! How I am supposed to add myself to the sudoers file if I don't have the right to edit one? I have installed this system and only administrator. What can I do? Edit: I have tried visudo already. ftp.exe does not convert end of line characters while transferring to FreeBSD ftp server

I am having problems transferring a text file from Windows 7 using ftp.exe to a FreeBSD server. After the file transfer the end-of-line characters are not changed from \r\n to \n, Instead they remain with the carriage return character which can be seen in for example mcedit as ^M. The file is transferred in ascii mode. Has anybody run into similar problems in the past? As far as I know using the ascii mode during FTP transfer should convert those characters automatically. Does it depend on the server configuration? EDIT: The file can be seen here. EDIT: I have also tried with ncftp.exe under Cygwin but the result is the same. The carriage return character has not been removed even if the transfer type was ASCII. EDIT: It does not work the other way round either. I created a text file in FreeBSD and then downloaded it is ASCII mode to my Windows machine. The end of line characters remained LF as they were in FreeBSD.

What to do with old laptop screens?

This question is inspired by another SU question I came across earlier today: What to do with old hard drives? It made me think about two long-dead laptops I have with perfectly good screens still inside. One is a Dell Inspiron 5100 and the other is an Averatec E1200, but responses need not be geared towards those particular models' screens. Rules, based heavily on the original question's: Objectives and suggestions to keep in mind when you post an answer : Should showcase your geekiness, be plain ol' fun, serve a social purpose or benefit the community. Your answer need not be limited to only one screen. For a really good answer, I'll go out and buy additional leftover screens. Your answer need not be limited to one project per screen. If additional accessories need be purchased, make sure they are common. Don't tell me to get a moon rock or something. The projects you suggested should serve a useful purpose; art is nice, but functional art is way better. Thanks in advance, folks. EDIT: Found another related question. Fun projects to do with an old 17" LCD monitor EDIT 2: I, for one, am enjoying the new outpouring of creativity here. Best fifty bucks... I mean, rep points... I ever spent. EDIT 3: That does it. At the end of the week, there was a tie for most votes between the accepted answer and the game platform answer. The game platform answer was cooler, but less reasonable as a project to actually do; in other words, it was more moon rocky. Window too big to fit the screen!

I'm using Windows 7 on a 8.9' monitor with 1280x768 screen resolution. Using the might of arithmetics, I'm able to determine that my dpi (actually ppi) should be 167. Win7 is really helpful in that it doesn't have to restart to apply new dpi settings, unlike its predecessors (though I'd rather it applies straight away). The problem with small monitors in Windows is that when you come across windows too big to fit the screen, you can't move the title bar far above it. In X window managers I used in the past, you could alt-drag the window to anywhere you want, but in Windows, even if you alt-space and select move, it will automatically push the window back until the title bar is visible. I'm looking for a solution that either: allows me to move window freely without regard to titlebar visibility, or attach a scrollbar to existing window, or EDIT: create virtual desktops that allow me to span windows over 2 desktops, or EDIT 2: allow me to set larger virtual resolution, then pan & scan. EDIT 3: I found some progs that might do some of the above: 1) AltDrag allows me to drag, resize using alt and left/right mouse button. Neat! Best solution so far. 2) GiMeSpace Desktop Extender is supposed to allow me to scroll desktop. Didn't work. The other new version, GiMeSpace Ultimate Taskbar worked, but it destroys my Superbar, replacing it with its map.

Windows 7, Black screen with cursor, impossible to logon

First - I have gone through as many possible solutions I've found here and elsewhere. [Edit - to describe the issue in more detail, the PC appears to boot correctly, but instead of the logon screen, I have been getting a black screen WITH the pointer cursor, and it responds correctly to the mouse. Pressing CTL-ALT-DEL brings up the logon screen's background, but with no logon area nor any other content. This screen was at the full resolution before I uninstalled the graphics driver in safe-mode.] I also just ran a full up-to-date AVG scan from boot media. [Edit - the AVG scan, which was updated to today's virus signatures, found no issues at all.] So - steps I've tried: Safe Boot, Restore from before the issue - done, no help. Uninstall the graphics driver - done, now i have a 1024x768 fallback screen, still no way in. sfc /scannow - only doable from Safe boot obviously, but no change. [Edit - booting from restore media, performing a startup repair and...]Restore further back - restored to 2 days ago, and I'd had many reboots since then with no problem. Enable autologin to try to get beyond the login screen - done, doesn't work. It seems the best advice is complete reinstall, but I really don't want to do that because it'll take 3-4 days to add all the apps I use. Some key points to note - in both states - before and after removing the video driver, I always had a mouse cursor on the screen. CTL-ALT-DEL flashes up the login background, but no login info. I can (and often do) reinstall from scratch, but was at a fairly stable state before this, and would prefer not to. -Paul

Using sound forge 6.0 what will be the need to upgrade to latest version

I had been using sound forge 6.0 not recently but long back. I edit mp3 files for my purpose and some more filters like flange, pan, fade in out, recording, line in recording, extracting sound from video files (mpg, avi(divx), etc...), increasing the default volume, editing treble and bass effects, and etc... I am not going to use it professionally. I use it just like that. Now when i checked i could see Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 is the latest version for my purpose. Others are too high i think. Besides, i had been using Gold Wave version 4 very extensively just to edit sound files mostly mp3. and here is the reason for me to change to sound forge. It is when we edit mp3 files it deflashes(making it raw i think) before editing. after editing if i save it asks for the format to save and i will choose mp3. At this point it again applies the compression process which makes the sound file lossy. When i did the same with sound forge it did not deflash. It just edited the file as mp3. Rsync root files between systems without specifying password

This seems very tricky to me. I've set up my two systems so that I can rsync files between them as me, without specifying password. Now the the problem is to rsync files that belong to root. On both of my systems, there are no root passwords. The only way to become root is via sudo. So I can neither give a password for sudo rsyn local root@remote:, no use my ssh-agent to supply pass phrase. I don't want to set up a root password on any systems; and I do need the files to be owned by root on both systems. EDIT: Using the files that belong to root is just an example, I need a way for my unprivileged account to read/write system (including root-owned) files easily. One example is to copy my configured /root environment into the freshly-installed system. The two systems are actually two VMs under a single host, so it's not a big concern for me to copy root-owned files between them. EDIT 2: If I only want to copy my configured /root environment into the freshly-installed system, I can use tar: sudo tar cvzf - /root | ssh me@remote sudo tar xvzf - -C / But I do need rsync to update from time to time. Any easy way to make it happen? EDIT 3: Formally formulate the question Alright, it all began with the question, how to rsync files that belong to root between two systems as a normal unprivileged user, without specifying password, under the condition that, The root account is locked on both of systems. I.e., there are no root passwords. The only way to become root is via sudo (recommended security practice, see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo) I don't want a completely passwordless sudo but don’t want to be typing passwords all the time either. The normal unprivileged user has entered their ssh pass phrase into the ssh agent. Thanks

VMWare server: virtual machine start-up reaches 95% and hangs

This problem cropped up today, after updating my eVGA motherboard's chipset in order to try and fix an unrelated issue. After installing the chipset update (contained SATA and Ethernet drivers), every time I've tried to start my Ubuntu VM, it reaches 95% in the web interface and then just hangs. I'm using VMWare Server 2.0.2, running it within Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't had any issues up until now, and I suspect it has something to do with the chipset update. I've already tried reinstalling VMWare itself, removing the VM from the inventory and re-adding it, and neither has proved successful. I'm also not sure how to kill the VMware server process itself once the start-up hangs; I've only been able to try again by rebooting (as none of the VMWare Services listed kill the server process itself). Any insights? Edit: Uhhh...as an addendum: I have a cron job set up on my Ubuntu VM that runs every 20 minutes. The VM is still listed in the VMWare web interface as at 95% of startup, and the start/stop buttons are still disabled, but the cronjob just ran. I also tested SSH, and I was able to tunnel into the Ubuntu VM as well. Now I'm really confused. Edit #2: I just started a thread on the VMWare Server support forums on this same topic. Hopefully between the two communities, we can come up with an answer: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/251033 Edit #3: In lieu of a specific fix, I've switched over to VirtualBox, and all is working just fine.

IE7 not digesting JSON: "parse error" [resolved]

While trying to GET a JSON, my callback function is NOT firing. $.ajax({ type:"GET", dataType:'json', url: myLocalURL, data: myData, success: function(returned_data){alert('success');} }); The strangest part of this is that my JSON(s) validates on JSONlint this ONLY fails on IE7...it works in Safari, Chrome, and all versions of Firefox, (EDIT: and even in IE8). If I use 'error', then it reports "parseError"...even though it validates! Is there anything that I'm missing? Does IE7 not process certain characters, data structures (my data doesn't have anything non-alphanumeric, but it DOES have nested JSONs)? I have used tons of other AJAX calls that all work (even in IE7), but with the exception of THIS call. An example data return (EDIT: This is a structurally-complete example, meaning it is only missing a few second-tier fields, but follows this exact hierarchy)here is: {"question":{ "question_id":"19", "question_text":"testing", "other_crap":"none" }, "timestamp":{ "response":"answer", "response_text":"the text here" } } I am completely at a loss. Hopefully someone has some insight into what's going on...thank you! EDIT Here's a copy of the SIMPLEST case of dummy data that I'm using...it still doesn't work in IE7. { "question":{ "question_id":"20", "question_text":"testing :", "adverse_party":"none", "juris":"California", "recipients":"Carl Chan" } } EDIT 2 I am starting to doubt that it is a JSON issue...but I have NO idea what else it could be. ANSWER I finally managed to figure it out...mostly via tedious trial-and-error. I want to thank everyone for their suggestions...as soon as I have 15 rep, I'll upvote you, I promise. :) There was basically no way that you guys could have figured it out, because the issue turned out to be a strange bug between IE7 and Django (my research didn't bring up any similar issues). We were basically using Django template language to generate our JSON...and in the midst of this particular JSON, we were using custom template tags: {% load customfilter %} { "question":{ "question_id":"{{question.id}}", "question_text":"{{question.question_text|customfilterhere}}" } } As soon as I deleted anything related to the customfilter, IE7 was able to parse the JSON perfectly! We still don't have a workaround yet, but at least we now know what's causing it. Has anyone seen any similar issues? Once again, thank you everyone for your contributions.
