  • Rails: Easy way to add more than one flash[:notice] at a time.

    - by Josh Pinter
I thought every time you do a flash[:notice]="Message" it would add it to the array which would then get displayed during the view but the following just keeps the last flash: flash[:notice] = "Message 1" flash[:notice] = "Message 2" Now I realize it's just a simple hash with a key (I think :)) but is there a better way to do multiple flashes than the following: flash[:notice] = "Message 1<br />" flash[:notice] = "Message 2" Thanks. • Deterministic key serialization

    - by Mike Boers
I'm writing a mapping class which uses SQLite as the storage backend. I am currently allowing only basestring keys but it would be nice if I could use a couple more types hopefully up to anything that is hashable (ie. same requirements as the builtin dict). To that end I would like to derive a deterministic serialization scheme. Ideally, I would like to know if any implementation/protocol combination of pickle is deterministic for hashable objects (e.g. can only use cPickle with protocol 0). I noticed that pickle and cPickle do not match: >>> import pickle >>> import cPickle >>> def dumps(x): ... print repr(pickle.dumps(x)) ... print repr(cPickle.dumps(x)) ... >>> dumps(1) 'I1\n.' 'I1\n.' >>> dumps('hello') "S'hello'\np0\n." "S'hello'\np1\n." >>> dumps((1, 2, 'hello')) "(I1\nI2\nS'hello'\np0\ntp1\n." "(I1\nI2\nS'hello'\np1\ntp2\n." Another option is to use repr to dump and ast.literal_eval to load. This would only be valid for builtin hashable types. I have written a function to determine if a given key would survive this process (it is rather conservative on the types it allows): def is_reprable_key(key): return type(key) in (int, str, unicode) or (type(key) == tuple and all( is_reprable_key(x) for x in key)) The question for this method is if repr itself is deterministic for the types that I have allowed here. I believe this would not survive the 2/3 version barrier due to the change in str/unicode literals. This also would not work for integers where 2**32 - 1 < x < 2**64 jumping between 32 and 64 bit platforms. Are there any other conditions (ie. do strings serialize differently under different conditions)? (If this all fails miserably then I can store the hash of the key along with the pickle of both the key and value, then iterate across rows that have a matching hash looking for one that unpickles to the expected key, but that really does complicate a few other things and I would rather not do it.) Any insights?

  • High-level languages for out-of-the-box GUI desktop application programming

    - by Omeoe
After I discontinued programming in C++ while entering into web authoring I was spoilt by PHP's high level constructs like hash tables or its dynamic, weak typing. I remembered the angst of C/C++ pointers and the maze of low-level Win32 API handles and message loops and that prevented me from utilizing environments like Code::Blocks for desktop applications. I am also not very fond of bulky, statically-typed C#/.NET environment. Any other ideas?

  • Start a git commit message with a hashmark (#)

    - by knittl
Git treats lines starting with # as comment lines when committing. this is very annoying when working with a ticket tracking system, and trying to write the ticket number at the beginning of the line, e.g. #123 salt hashed passwords git will simply remove the line from the commit message. is there any way to escape the hash? i tried \ and !, but nothing works. whitespaces before # are preserved, so they aren't a working solution to the problem either.

  • mounting ext4 fs with block size of 65536

    - by seaquest
I am doing some benchmarking on EXT4 performance on Compact Flash media. I have created an ext4 fs with block size of 65536. however I can not mount it on ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386. • Can someone explain/annotate this Ruby snippet with comments?

    - by Ronnie
Could someone please add comments to this code? Or, alternatively, what would be the pseudocode equivalent of this Ruby code? It seems simple enough but I just don't know enough Ruby to convert this to PHP. data = Hash.new({}) mysql_results.each { |r| data[r['year']][r['week']] = r['count'] } (year_low..year_high).each do |year| (1..52).each do |week| puts "#{year} #{week} #{data[year][week]}" end end Any help whatsoever would be really appreciated. Thanks!

  • SHA2 Certificates in Windows 2003 CA

    - by rursw1
Hi all, Is it possible to create a certificate template that uses SHA-2 (sha256, sha224, sha384, sha512), from a Windows server 2003 CA? I know how to do it in Windows server 2008 based CA, with the new version (version 3) - it is possible to specify the hash algorithm (Under the "Cryptography" tab of the template properties). But is it possible in 2003 based CA? Thanks.

  • Specifying schema for temporary tables

    - by Tom Hunter
I'm used to seeing temporary tables created with just the hash/number symbol, like this: CREATE TABLE #Test ( [Id] INT ) However, I've recently come across stored procedure code that specifies the schema name when creating temporary tables, for example: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[#Test] ( [Id] INT ) Is there any reason why you would want to do this? If you're only specifying the user's default schema, does it make any difference? Does this refer to the [dbo] schema in the local database or the tempdb database?

    - by text
I am planning on creating my database table for users of an offline site that use as a kiosk.. Those kiosk are not connected on a network nor to each other, they have a separate webserver and database.. what Is the best thing that I can use to have these users on every kiosk to have their different unique id? I am planning using hash so that when we combine all the data's in every machine on single server we can accommodate each unique ids.

  • Scrum stories and behind the scenes features

    - by James P.
As I understand things, the Scrum backlog is composed of a series of Stories that represent something for the end user and this is further decomposed into Features. If this is the case, where does all the behind the scenes features go that aren't really linked to a story but are still useful? For example, say I'm making an application that catalogs the contents of a hard drive. A story wouldn't require it but having an md5 hash on each file would be a nice feature.

  • Can a math intensive application cause a crash?

    - by philcolbourn
I have been messing with hash functions and functions to generate primes etc. I had 3 lock-ups in a short period. This was odd since my macbook rarely locks-up and usually only when I run out of memory - which does not happen often. But in this case, I had three in a row and none since (but I also am not generating as much load as before).

  • Method For Making Methods: Easy Ruby Metaprogramming

I have a bunch of methods like this in view helper def background "#e9eaec" end def footer_link_color "#836448" end I'd like these methods exposed to the view, but I'd prefer the helper to be a bit more concise. What's the best way to turn a hash, say, into methods (or something else)?

  • Safest LAMP encrypt method

Hello, what is PHP's safest encrypt/decrypt method, in use with MySQL - to store let's say passwords? Of course, not for portal purposes. I want to do little password (domain/mysql/ftp...) storage for whole team online, but I don't want really to endanger our clients' bussinesses. Hash can't be used for obvious reasons (Doesn't really make sense to run rainbow tables every time :D). Any idea?

  • Rails routes matching query parameters

I was trying something like this... map.connect "api/my/path?apple=:applecode", :controller = 'apples_controller', :action = 'my_action' map.connect "api/my/path?banana=:bananacode", :controller = 'bananas_controller', :action = 'my_action' For routing purposes I don't care about the value of the parameter, as long as it is available to the controller in the 'params' hash

  • Hashes or tokens for "remember me" cookies?

    - by Emanuil Rusev
When it comes to remember me cookies, there are 2 distinct approaches: Hashes The remember me cookie stores a string that can identify the user (i.e. user ID) and a string that can prove that the identified user is the one it pretends to be - usually a hash based on the user password. Tokens The remember me cookie stores a random (meaningless), yet unique string that corresponds with with a record in a tokens table, that stores a user ID. Which approach is more secure and what are its disadvantages?

Hello, I was looking for a python code that would be able to log in from "Google App Engine" to some of my accounts on some websites (like yahoo or eBay) and was given this code: import urllib, urllib2, cookielib url = "https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?" form_data = {'login' : 'my-login-here', 'passwd' : 'my-password-here'} jar = cookielib.CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(jar)) form_data = urllib.urlencode(form_data) # data returned from this pages contains redirection resp = opener.open(url, form_data) # yahoo redirects to http://my.yahoo.com, so lets go there instead resp = opener.open('http://mail.yahoo.com') print resp.read() Unfortunately, this code didn't work, so I asked another question here and one supporter among other things said this: "You send MD5 hash and not plain password.
