  • VSS Post Backup failures for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 virtual machines

    - by califguy4christ
We've been seeing strange errors with Volume Shadow Copy services on our Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 host. It appears to be failing on a strange mountpoint in the C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ folders, which I believe is used by VSS to mount a writeable image file. To summarize: The Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Writer continually goes into a failed retryable state The Virtual Server log reports errors during the Post Backup phase VSS reports errors backing up a mount point of unknown origins The mount point causes NTFS and ftdisk errors The host is x86 Windows Server 2003 Standard, SP2. The virtual machine is the same. Both use basic disks. Here is the writer state: Writer name: 'Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Writer' Writer Id: {76afb926-87ad-4a20-a50f-cdc69412ddfc} Writer Instance Id: {78df98e2-bf19-4804-890b-15865efef3bd} State: [11] Failed Last error: Retryable error From the Virtual Server log: Virtual Server - Vss Writer - Event ID: 1035: The VSS writer for Virtual Server failed during the PostBackup phase. The guest shadow copies did not get exposed on the host machine, after mounting all the virtual hard disks of the virtual machine VMACHINE. From the Application log: VSS - None - Event ID: 12290: Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: GetVolumeInformationW( \\?\Volume{fb84bae7-87f5-11dd-9832-001cc4961ca6}\,NULL,0, NULL,NULL,[0x00000000], , 260) == 0x0000045d. hr = 0x00000000. From the System log: Ntfs - Disk - Event ID: 55: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ {fb84bae7-87f5-11dd-9832-001cc49.... My current theory is that VSS creates a mount point for an image file of the VHD, then the software panics for some reason, leaving everything in an inconsistent state. Removing the mount point doesn't resolve the problem. All of the other disks check out fine with CHKDSK. There's no exclusion option for VHDs or to turn off online backups. Has anyone seen this kind of thing before or point me in the right direction for getting more information about the mount point and it's origins? I haven't been able to trace what application is creating that mount point.

  • fsck on LVM snapshots

    - by Alpha01
I'm trying to do some file system checks using LVM snapshots of our Logical Volumes to see if any of them have dirty file systems. The problem that I have is that our LVM only has one Volume Group with no available space. I was able to do fsck's on some of the logical volumes using a loopback file system. However my question is, is it possible to create a 200GB loopback file system, and saved it on the same partition/logical volume that I'll be taking a snapshot of? Is LVM smart enough to not take a snapshot copy of the actual snapshot? [root@server z]# vgdisplay --- Volume group --- VG Name Web2-Vol System ID Format lvm2 Metadata Areas 1 Metadata Sequence No 29 VG Access read/write VG Status resizable MAX LV 0 Cur LV 6 Open LV 6 Max PV 0 Cur PV 1 Act PV 1 VG Size 544.73 GB PE Size 4.00 MB Total PE 139450 Alloc PE / Size 139450 / 544.73 GB Free PE / Size 0 / 0 VG UUID BrVwNz-h1IO-ZETA-MeIf-1yq7-fHpn-fwMTcV [root@server z]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 9.7G 3.6G 5.6G 40% / /dev/sda1 251M 29M 210M 12% /boot /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-var 12G 1.1G 11G 10% /var /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-var--spool 12G 184M 12G 2% /var/spool /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-var--lib--mysql 30G 15G 14G 52% /var/lib/mysql /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-usr 13G 3.3G 8.9G 27% /usr /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-z 468G 197G 267G 43% /z /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-tmp 3.0G 76M 2.8G 3% /tmp tmpfs 7.9G 92K 7.9G 1% /dev/shm The logical volume in question is /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-z. I'm afraid if I created the loopback file system in /dev/mapper/Web2--Vol-z and take a snapshot of it, the disk size will be trippled in size, thus running out of disk space available.

  • CoreStore Encryption Error on Mac Lion

    - by Michael
I am trying to encrypt an external drive using diskutil CoreStorage on Mac Lion 10.7.4. I thought the only requirements were that the drive have GUID partition scheme and Journaled HFS+ file system. I think my drive is configured accordingly but when I type the following command I get an error message back: Michaels-MacBook-Pro:~ Michael$ diskutil cs convert disk2 -passphrase TestPassword Error converting disk to CoreStorage: The given file system is not supported on Core Storage (-69756) Here are the details reported for the drive in question: Michaels-MacBook-Pro:~ Michael$ diskutil list disk2 /dev/disk2 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk2 1: EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1 2: Apple_HFS Test1 499.8 GB disk2s2 Michaels-MacBook-Pro:~ Michael$ diskutil list disk2 /dev/disk2 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk2 1: EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1 2: Apple_HFS Test1 499.8 GB disk2s2 Michaels-MacBook-Pro:~ Michael$ diskutil info disk2s2 Device Identifier: disk2s2 Device Node: /dev/disk2s2 Part of Whole: disk2 Device / Media Name: Test1 Volume Name: Test1 Escaped with Unicode: Test1 Mounted: Yes Mount Point: /Volumes/Test1 Escaped with Unicode: /Volumes/Test1 File System Personality: Journaled HFS+ Type (Bundle): hfs Name (User Visible): Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Journal: Journal size 40960 KB at offset 0xe8e000 Owners: Disabled Partition Type: Apple_HFS OS Can Be Installed: Yes Media Type: Generic Protocol: FireWire SMART Status: Not Supported Volume UUID: 1024D0B8-1C45-3057-B040-AE5C3841DABF Total Size: 499.8 GB (499763888128 Bytes) (exactly 976101344 512-Byte-Blocks) Volume Free Space: 499.3 GB (499315826688 Bytes) (exactly 975226224 512-Byte-Blocks) Device Block Size: 512 Bytes Read-Only Media: No Read-Only Volume: No Ejectable: Yes Whole: No Internal: No I'm a little concerned that the "Partition Type: Apple_HFS" entry is causing the problem, but I don't know how to change that. • DIR $file "File Not Found" vs DIR $filedir shows it....not permissions, not USB

I was having this problem before on a USB drive, but now it's happening on my main RAID5-backed hard disk: 2013-10-17 9:37 C:\>dir "C:\Shares\Shared\Reference\Safety Management System\Vid eo CD\AutoPlay\Docs\Manuel*" Volume in drive C has no label. All three have full control of everything. Nobody has any Deny bits set. I am a member of Administrators. So I don't believe it's a permissions issue. It's not a USB drive, so this time there is no question of USB hardware. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2. What does this mean? Is this more likely a hardware or software problem?

  • Distributed File Systems.

    - by GruffTech
So, I've been reading several articles around ServerFault as well as google. (For Example, this link) My Requirements are very similar to the link above, however i'd like to also have dynamic or at least resizeable file volumes, so if necessary i can add 4-5 servers to the pool, and then expand the volume. Any Distributed File systems that support that, to save me some time? Thanks! LustreFS will be my next test cluster to build. GlusterFS I've build a 3-machine test GlusterFS cluster, However i quickly became aware of several of its limitations that it doesn't seem to make clearly public. One, i can't seem to resize a volume. Once a volume is created, its done. Which seems retarded, why have a fully scalable file system if i can't scale a volume? So maybe i'm doing something wrong. I'm not sure. AmazonS3 while gives the cheapest startup adds too much cost when broken down to per client per month, so its out. Building my own system when prorated over several years with no bandwidth costs makes it significantly cheaper. MogileFS isn't an option as we'd like this server to be a SAN-Replacement, for storing tons of media from a multitude of systems, which for us means it needs to be POSIX compliant so it can be remotely mounted via NFS or CIFS.

  • Dell XPS 15 L502X hard drive Partition

    - by Mohan Gajula
I have a situation here. I got my new Dell XPS 15 Laptop. The configuration of hard drive is as below : Volume 1: (OEM Partition): 133MB Volume 2: OS (C:): 685.25 GB Volume 3: Recovery : 13.25 GB Now, I am trying to re-partition my C Drive to have a C: drive with 100 GB and a new drive with 585 GB. Earlier, I tried using the Windows 7 Disk Management to shrink and extend the volume. That lead to the OS and hard drive not working. Dell Tech support tried to fix the issue, but they were not able to fix the issue online. Later a Dell Technician arrived my place, and replaced the hard drive with a new hard drive. Please help me re-partition the C: Drive with 100 GB, and new D drive with 585 GB. I don't want to lose my Recovery Partition. SOLUTION As Suggested by KCotreau below , I have done exactly. I have resized the C drive to 100 GB. And then applied the changes. Windows got restarted. On the boot screen, the partition was taking place. It took around 30 mins ( approx. ). Once after restart, I can see my C drive is 100 GB. Now opened the Easeus again. And created a new partition for the free space ( 585 GB ) this took 10 seconds to create. Here goes the screenshot after partitioning. Thanks to KCotreau. You are amazing.

  • Error during Time Machine backups on OS X Lion

    - by user92401
After I turn on my machine, the first couple of Time Machine backups seem to go OK, but after about an hour I get this error: Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder. Latest successful backup: 7/31/11 at 12:32 PM I'm running 10.7. Time Machine is backing up an internal HD to an external USB HD. • Recovering drive via boot to Win7 setup command prompt

    - by Valamas
I am trying to recover data from two old IDE drives. Drive1 has been successful, but something is wrong with Drive2. It does not appear as a drive letter. Due to limited legacy hardware, the only way i can see these drives is to boot using windows 7 setup and goto the command prompt. Without going further as to why, my question is how i can access the data in this command prompt. I discovered DISKPART command and while a first time user, it looked like something that can fix my problem. Here are the results of my diskpart commands. At the bottom is a image of the commands taken with a camera. The Drive2 is present because when using the diskpart command, I can see it. How can I copy the information using a robocopy script if the drive letter is not available? how can I assign a drive letter? Is there any repair command I need to execute? When i execute DISKPART, the following is what i see. DISKPART> LIST DISK Disk### Status Size Free Disk 5 Online 37 GB 2048 KB So then I select disk 5. DISKPART> SELECT DISK 5 "Disk 5 is now the selected disk" When I list partition DISKPART> LIST PARTITION Partition ### Type Size Partition 1 Primary 101 MB Partition 2 Primary 37 GB So I select partition 2 "Partition 2 is now the selected partition." I then try to assign a drive letter DISKPART> ASSIGN LETTER=G "There is no volume specified." "Please select a volume and try again." When i list volume the drive is not present. DISKPART> LIST VOLUME Result of the above commands

  • Relayout LVM Disk

    - by Tom
I have an Ubuntu 11.10 system with two 500GB disks. The partition tables look like this: /dev/sda1 primary 465.52GB /dev/sda2 extended 243.17MB -> /dev/sda5 logical 243.14MB /dev/sdb1 primary 465.76GB sda1 and sdb1 are in a single LVM physical volume group containing a single logical volume containing a single logical filesystem which is mounted as /. sda5 is mounted as /boot. The problem comes when I want to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04, which requires at least 247MB free on /boot. So I need to reduce the size of sda1 so that I can increase the size of sda2 and sda5. How the heck do I do that? I can find how to shrink the logical volume group, but I'm not at all clear on how to clear out the end part of sda1 so that I can reduce the physical volume group. Does pvresize just deal with this automagically? Or is that wild wishful thinking? I guess the alternatives are to back everything up onto something or other and recreate the thing from scratch or find out whether GRUB2 supports using LVM for /boot.

  • How to use LVM on Rackspace Cloud

    - by batrick
Dear all, I am trying to set up a simple but effective solution to make a backup of my rackspace cloud servers. These servers each run subversion, trac, and some database-backed custom php applications. My idea is to set up a LVM and mount a volume under, say, /srv. In this volume, I keep the data from all applications. Instead of caring about how to back-up each app in a different way (svn hotcopy, trac-admin hotcopy, huge mess for mysql), I simply take an LVM snapshot and back this one up cloud files using the excellent cloudcity script (http://github.com/jspringman/cloudcity/blob/master/cloudcity). The advantage of this solution is that it is quick and easy, and LVM allows to make decent backups. As more apps are added, it should not be required to change the backup script much. The downside, and main point of my question here, is that I am not sure how to get LVM working on Rackspace cloud, because there is only one root volume and no service like Amazon's EBS. I was thinking it may be possible to create a large empty file and use this as a "physical volume". Has anybody done anything like this before? Or do you know why it can never work? It would be great to hear from you. Thanks, batrick

  • Replicated filesystem and EC2 MySQL

    - by El Yobo
I'm currently investigating migrating our infrastructure over to run on Amazon's EC2 and am trying to figure out the best way to set up a MySQL service. I'm leaning towards running our own MySQL instances, rather than going with Amazon's RDS, but am still considering the best approach for performance and cost on the instance itself. In order to have persistent data, the MySQL data needs to be on an EBS volume (with some form of striped RAID, e.g. RAID0 or RAID10) to improve persistence. However, EBS IO is limited by the network interface (gigabit, so a theoretical maximum of 128 MB/s), while the ephemeral volumes have no such problem. I did see a suggestion for running two MySQL servers on an instance, with a master running on the ephemeral disk (which we would also RAID) and a slave storing changes to an EBS volume, but this has some additional overhead and complexity (two servers). What I was imagining is using some form of replicated file system such that I could have a filesystem on top of a RAID0 of ephemeral volumes to maximise performance all changes from the above immediately replicated to another RAID1 volume backed by multiple EBS volumes to ensure no data loss The advantages of this would be best possible IO performance for the DB server; no network delay in IO decreased IO on EBS volumes (as all read IO will be done on the ephemeral volumes) so decreased cost good data security, as it's backed onto redundant EBS volumes However, I haven't seen an appropriate system to replicate all changes from one volume to the other; is there a filesystem, or any other approach, which will do this? The distributed file systems, e.g. GlusterFS, DRBD etc seem to focus on replicating disks between servers, can they be set up to do what I'm interested in here? I also haven't seen anything about other's taking this approach. Do I have a solution in need of a problem here (i.e. is performance good enough, so this whole idea is redundant)? Is there some flaw in the plan?

  • How to delete a residual Ubuntu directory from Windows?

    - by memo1288
I'm using Windows 7. After installing (and uninstalling) Ubuntu on my laptop, I found that it left a folder called ".Trash-1000" on my H drive. I cannot remove it: if I try to delete it from Explorer, it says: The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name. If I try to remove it from the command line, this is what happens: H:\>rmdir .Trash-1000 /S /Q .Trash-1000\files\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 11:57:32.png - The filename, direct ory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\files\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 12:03:45.2.png - The filename, dire ctory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\info\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 11:57:32.png.trashinfo - The filenam e, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\info\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 12:03:45.2.png.trashinfo - The filen ame, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. The files mentioned there are the contents of that folder. Using quotes around the folder name yields the same result. Trying to delete any of the sub-folders results in the same error, and trying to remove any of the files inside results in "No such file or directory". As I said before, I no longer have Ubuntu installed. How can I remove this folder?

  • Partition Magic 8 made TrueCrypt partition invisible

    - by gmancoda
Partition Magic 8 took a dump on my TrueCrypt partition... and I let it happen! And now I am left with cleaning up the mess. In short, my encrypted partition is now invisible. TestDisk analysis says of the disk containing the encrypted partition: "Space conflict between the following two partitions". From the googling and searching on various sites, I have learned the following: Hex editing is beyond me. Partition recovery tools are useless. I am not ready to drop the big bucks for professional help. ... that I should have kept an external backup of the Volume header. Now, to get back the volume header, I am planning on recreating the exact same partitions on a new disk of the exact same model, and then encrypting it with the exact same password/keyfiles, and then exporting its volume header to a file. Finally, I hope to be able to restore this volume header on to my damaged drive. Before I undertake this plan, I would like to know if anyone else out there has tried it and, if so, how successful they were. All other suggestions and tips and welcome!! Thanks.

  • How to Achieve Real-Time Data Protection and Availabilty....For Real

    - by JoeMeeks
There is a class of business and mission critical applications where downtime or data loss have substantial negative impact on revenue, customer service, reputation, cost, etc. Because the Oracle Database is used extensively to provide reliable performance and availability for this class of application, it also provides an integrated set of capabilities for real-time data protection and availability. Active Data Guard, depicted in the figure below, is the cornerstone for accomplishing these objectives because it provides the absolute best real-time data protection and availability for the Oracle Database. This is a bold statement, but it is supported by the facts. It isn’t so much that alternative solutions are bad, it’s just that their architectures prevent them from achieving the same levels of data protection, availability, simplicity, and asset utilization provided by Active Data Guard. Let’s explore further. Backups are the most popular method used to protect data and are an essential best practice for every database. Not surprisingly, Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is one of the most commonly used features of the Oracle Database. But comparing Active Data Guard to backups is like comparing apples to motorcycles. Active Data Guard uses a hot (open read-only), synchronized copy of the production database to provide real-time data protection and HA. In contrast, a restore from backup takes time and often has many moving parts - people, processes, software and systems – that can create a level of uncertainty during an outage that critical applications can’t afford. This is why backups play a secondary role for your most critical databases by complementing real-time solutions that can provide both data protection and availability. Before Data Guard, enterprises used storage remote-mirroring for real-time data protection and availability. Remote-mirroring is a sophisticated storage technology promoted as a generic infrastructure solution that makes a simple promise – whatever is written to a primary volume will also be written to the mirrored volume at a remote site. Keeping this promise is also what causes data loss and downtime when the data written to primary volumes is corrupt – the same corruption is faithfully mirrored to the remote volume making both copies unusable. This happens because remote-mirroring is a generic process. It has no  intrinsic knowledge of Oracle data structures to enable advanced protection, nor can it perform independent Oracle validation BEFORE changes are applied to the remote copy. There is also nothing to prevent human error (e.g. a storage admin accidentally deleting critical files) from also impacting the remote mirrored copy. Remote-mirroring tricks users by creating a false impression that there are two separate copies of the Oracle Database. In truth; while remote-mirroring maintains two copies of the data on different volumes, both are part of a single closely coupled system. Not only will remote-mirroring propagate corruptions and administrative errors, but the changes applied to the mirrored volume are a result of the same Oracle code path that applied the change to the source volume. There is no isolation, either from a storage mirroring perspective or from an Oracle software perspective.  Bottom line, storage remote-mirroring lacks both the smarts and isolation level necessary to provide true data protection. Active Data Guard offers much more than storage remote-mirroring when your objective is protecting your enterprise from downtime and data loss. Like remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is an exact block for block copy of the primary. Unlike remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is NOT a tightly coupled copy of the source volumes - it is a completely independent Oracle Database. Active Data Guard’s inherent knowledge of Oracle data block and redo structures enables a separate Oracle Database using a different Oracle code path than the primary to use the full complement of Oracle data validation methods before changes are applied to the synchronized copy. These include: physical check sum, logical intra-block checking, lost write validation, and automatic block repair. The figure below illustrates the stark difference between the knowledge that remote-mirroring can discern from an Oracle data block and what Active Data Guard can discern. An Active Data Guard standby also provides a range of additional services enabled by the fact that it is a running Oracle Database - not just a mirrored copy of data files. An Active Data Guard standby database can be open read-only while it is synchronizing with the primary. This enables read-only workloads to be offloaded from the primary system and run on the active standby - boosting performance by utilizing all assets. An Active Data Guard standby can also be used to implement many types of system and database maintenance in rolling fashion. Maintenance and upgrades are first implemented on the standby while production runs unaffected at the primary. After the primary and standby are synchronized and all changes have been validated, the production workload is quickly switched to the standby. The only downtime is the time required for user connections to transfer from one system to the next. These capabilities further expand the expectations of availability offered by a data protection solution beyond what is possible to do using storage remote-mirroring. So don’t be fooled by appearances.  Storage remote-mirroring and Active Data Guard replication may look similar on the surface - but the devil is in the details. • Migrating Virtual Iron guest to Oracle VM 3.x

    - by scoter
As stated on the official site, Oracle in 2009, acquired a provider of server virtualization management software named Virtual Iron; you can find all the acquisition details at this link. Into the FAQ on the official site you can also view that, for the future, Oracle plans to fully integrate Virtual Iron technology into Oracle VM products, and any enhancements will be delivered as a part of the combined solution; this is what is going on with Oracle VM 3.x. So, customers started asking us to migrate Virtual Iron guests to Oracle VM. IMPORTANT: This procedure needs a dedicated OVM-Server with no-guests running on top; be careful while execute this procedure on production environments. In these little steps you will find how-to migrate, as fast as possible, your guests between VI ( Virtual Iron ) and Oracle VM; keep in mind that OracleVM has a built-in P2V utility ( Official Documentation )  that you can use to migrate guests between VI and Oracle VM. Concepts: VI repositories.  On VI we have the same "repository" concept as in Oracle VM; the difference between these two products is that VI use a raw-lun as repository ( instead of using ocfs2 and its capabilities, like ref-links ). The VI "raw-lun" repository, with a pure operating-system perspective, may be presented as in this picture: Infact on this "raw-lun" VI create an LVM2 volume-group. The VI "raw-lun" repository, with an hypervisor perspective, may be presented as in this picture: So, the relationships are: LVM2-Volume-Group <-> VI Repository LVM2-Logical-Volume <-> VI guest virtual-disk The first step is to present the VI repository ( raw-lun ) to your dedicated OVM-Server. Prepare dedicated OVM-Server On the OVM-Server ( OVS ) you need to discover new lun and, after that, discover volume-group and logical-volumes containted in VI repository; due to default OVS configuration you need to edit lvm2 configuration file: /etc/lvm/lvm.conf     # By default for OVS we restrict every block device:     # filter = [ "r/.*/" ] and comment the line starting with "filter" as above. Now you have to discover the raw-lun presented and, next, activate volume-group and logical-volumes: #!/bin/bash for HOST in `ls /sys/class/scsi_host`;do echo '- - -' > /sys/class/scsi_host/$HOST/scan; done CPATH=`pwd` cd /dev for DEVICE in `ls sd[a-z] sd?[a-z]`;do echo '1' > /sys/block/$DEVICE/device/rescan; done cd $CPATH cd /dev/mapper for PARTITION in `ls *[a-z] *?[a-z]`;do partprobe /dev/mapper/$PARTITION; done cd $CPATH vgchange -a yAfter that you will see a new device:[root@ovs01 ~]# cd /dev/6000F4B00000000000210135bef64994[root@ovs01 6000F4B00000000000210135bef64994]# ls -l 6000F4B0000000000061013* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 77 Oct 29 10:50 6000F4B00000000000610135c3a0b8cb -> /dev/mapper/6000F4B00000000000210135bef64994-6000F4B00000000000610135c3a0b8cb By your OVM-Manager create a guest server with the same definition as on VI:same core number as VI source guestsame memory as VI source guestsame number of disks as VI source guest ( you can create OVS virtual disk with a small size of 1GB because the "clone" will, eventually, extend the size of your new virtual disks )Summarizing:source-virtual-disk path ( VI ):/dev/mapper/6000F4B00000000000210135bef64994-6000F4B00000000000610135c3a0b8cbdest-virtual-disk path ( OVS ):/OVS/Repositories/0004fb00000300006cfeb81c12f12f00/VirtualDisks/0004fb000012000055e0fc4c5c8a35ee.img ** ** = to identify your virtual disk you have verify its name under the "vm.cfg" file of your new guest.Clone VI virtual-disk to OVS virtual-diskdd if=/dev/mapper/6000F4B00000000000210135bef64994-6000F4B00000000000610135c3a0b8cb of=/OVS/Repositories/0004fb00000300006cfeb81c12f12f00/VirtualDisks/0004fb000012000055e0fc4c5c8a35ee.img Clean unsupported parameters and changes on OVS.1. Restore original /etc/lvm/lvm.conf    # By default for OVS we restrict every block device:     filter = [ "r/.*/" ]    and uncomment the line starting with "filter" as above.2. Force-stop lvm2-monitor service  # service lvm2-monitor force-stop 3. Restore original /etc/lvm directories ( archive, backup and cache )  # cd /etc/lvm  # rm -fr archive backup cache; mkdir archive backup cache4. Reboot OVSRefresh OVS repository and start your guest.By OracleVM Manager refresh your repository:By OracleVM Manager start your "migrated" guest: Comments and corrections are welcome.  Simon COTER

  • jQuery unbinding click event when maximum number of children are displayed

    - by RyanP13
I have a personal details form that alows you to enter a certain number of dependants which is determined by the JSP application. The first dependant is visible and the user has the option to add dependants up to the maximum number. All other dependants are hidden by default and are displayed when a user clicks the 'Add another dependant button'. When the maximum number of dependants has been reached the button is greyed out and a message is generated via jQuery and displayed to tell the user exactly this. The issue i am having is when the maximum number of dependants has been reached the message is displayed but then the user can click the button to add more dependants and the message keeps on generating. I thought unbinding the click event would sort this but it seems to still be able to generate a second message. Here is the function i wrote to generate the message: // Dependant message function function maxDependMsg(msgElement) { // number of children can change per product, needs to be dynamic // count number of dependants in HTML var $dependLength = $("div.dependant").length; // add class maxAdd to grey out Button // create maximum dependants message and display, will not be created if JS turned off $(msgElement) .addClass("maxAdd") .after($('<p>') .addClass("maxMsg") .append("The selected web policy does not offer cover for more than " + $dependLength + " children, please contact our customer advisers if you wish discuss alternative policies available.")); } There is a hyperlink with a click event attached like so: $("a.add").click(function(){ // Show the next hidden table on clicking add child button $(this).closest('form').find('div.dependant:hidden:first').show(); // Get the number of hidden tables var $hiddenChildren = $('div.dependant:hidden').length; if ($hiddenChildren == 0) { // save visible state of system message $.cookies.set('cpqbMaxDependantMsg', 'visible'); // show system message that you can't add anymore dependants than what is on page maxDependMsg("a.add"); $(this).unbind("click"); } // set a cookie for the visible state of all child tables $('div.dependant').each(function(){ var $childCount = $(this).index('div.dependant'); if ($(this).is(':visible')) { $.cookies.set('cpqbTableStatus' + $childCount, 'visible'); } else { $.cookies.set('cpqbTableStatus' + $childCount, 'hidden'); } }); return false; }); All of the cookies code is for state saving when users are going back and forward through the process.

I need some help with CSS overflow in IE, namely IE 7. I want the nested div content to be hidden. <div style="width:100px; height:100px; overflow:hidden; border:1px dashed red;"> <div style="width:60px; left:80px; position:relative;">hidden stuff goes here</div> </div> It works fine in FF but in IE 7, the overflow content is not hidden.

  • SHAREPOINT: Custom Field type property storage defined for custom field

    - by Eric Rockenbach
ok here is a great question. I have a set of generic custom fields that are highly configurable from an end user perspective and the configuration is getting overbearing as there are nearly 100 plus items each custom field allows you to perform in the areas of Server/Client Validation, Server/Client Events/Actions, Server/Client Bindings parent/child, display properties for form/control, etc, etc. Right now I'm storing most of these values as "Text" in my field xml for my propertyschema. I'm very familiar with the multi column value, but this is not a complex custom type in sense it's an array. I also considered creating serilzable objects and stuffing them into the text field and then pulling out and de-serilizing them when editing through the field editor or acting on the rules through the custom spfield. So I'm trying to take the following for example <PropertySchema> <Fields> <Field Name="EntityColumnName" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="EntityColumnName" MaxLength="500" DisplaySize="200" Type="Text"> <default></default> </Field> <Field Name="EntityColumnParentPK" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="EntityColumnParentPK" MaxLength="500" DisplaySize="200" Type="Text"> <default></default> </Field> <Field Name="EntityColumnValueName" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="EntityColumnValueName" MaxLength="500" DisplaySize="200" Type="Text"> <default></default> </Field> <Field Name="EntityListName" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="EntityListName" MaxLength="500" DisplaySize="200" Type="Text"> <default></default> </Field> <Field Name="EntitySiteUrl" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="EntitySiteUrl" MaxLength="500" DisplaySize="200" Type="Text"> <default></default> </Field> </Fields> <PropertySchema> And turn it into this... <PropertySchema> <Fields> <Field Name="ServerValidationRules" Hidden="TRUE" DisplayName="ServerValidationRules" Type="ServerValidationRulesType"> <default></default> </Field> </Fields> <PropertySchema> Ideas?????

  • C# Generic Arrays and math operations on it

    - by msedi
Hello, I'm currently involved in a project where I have very large image volumes. This volumes have to processed very fast (adding, subtracting, thresholding, and so on). Additionally most of the volume are so large that they event don't fit into the memory of the system. For that reason I have created an abstract volume class (VoxelVolume) that host the volume and image data and overloads the operators so that it's possible to perform the regular mathematical operations on volumes. Thereby two more questions opened up which I will put into stackoverflow into two additional threads. Here is my first question. My volume is implemented in a way that it only can contain float array data, but most of the containing data is from an UInt16 image source. Only operations on the volume can create float array images. When I started implementing such a volume the class looked like following: public abstract class VoxelVolume<T> { ... } but then I realized that overloading the operators or return values would get more complicated. An example would be: public abstract class VoxelVolume<T> { ... public static VoxelVolume<T> Import<T>(param string[] files) { } } also adding two overloading operators would be more complicated: ... public static VoxelVolume<T> operator+(VoxelVolume<T> A, VoxelVolume<T> B) { ... } Let's assume I can overcome the problems described above, nevertheless I have different types of arrays that contain the image data. Since I have fixed my type in the volumes to float the is no problem and I can do an unsafe operation when adding the contents of two image volume arrays. I have read a few threads here and had a look around the web, but found no real good explanation of what to do when I want to add two arrays of different types in a fast way. Unfortunately every math operation on generics is not possible, since C# is not able to calculate the size of the underlying data type. Of course there might by a way around this problem by using C++/CLR, but currently everything I have done so far, runs in 32bit and 64bit without having to do a thing. Switching to C++/CLR seemed to me (pleased correct me if I'm wrong) that I'm bound to a certain platform (32bit) and I have to compile two assemblies when I let the application run on another platform (64bit). Is this true? So asked shortly: How is it possible to add two arrays of two different types in a fast way. Is it true that the developers of C# haven't thought about this. Switching to a different language (C# - C++) seems not to be an option. I realize that simply performing this operation float []A = new float[]{1,2,3}; byte []B = new byte[]{1,2,3}; float []C = A+B; is not possible and unnecessary although it would be nice if it would work. My solution I was trying was following: public static class ArrayExt { public static unsafe TResult[] Add<T1, T2, TResult>(T1 []A, T2 []B) { // Assume the length of both arrays is equal TResult[] result = new TResult[A.Length]; GCHandle h1 = GCHandle.Alloc (A, Pinned); GCHandle h2 = GCHandle.Alloc (B, Pinned); GCHandle hR = GCHandle.Alloc (C, Pinned); void *ptrA = h1.ToPointer(); void *ptrB = h2.ToPointer(); void *ptrR = hR.ToPointer(); for (int i=0; i<A.Length; i++) { *((TResult *)ptrR) = (TResult *)((T1)*ptrA + (T2)*ptrB)); } h1.Free(); h2.Free(); hR.Free(); return result; } } Please excuse if the code above is not quite correct, I wrote it without using an C# editor. Is such a solution a shown above thinkable? Please feel free to ask if I made a mistake or described some things incompletely. Thanks for your help Martin

  • Neural Network with softmax activation

    - by Cambium
This is more or less a research project for a course, and my understanding of NN is very/fairly limited, so please be patient :) ============== I am currently in the process of building a neural network that attempts to examine an input dataset and output the probability/likelihood of each classification (there are 5 different classifications). Naturally, the sum of all output nodes should add up to 1. Currently, I have two layers, and I set the hidden layer to contain 10 nodes. I came up with two different types of implementations 1) Logistic sigmoid for hidden layer activation, softmax for output activation 2) Softmax for both hidden layer and output activation I am using gradient descent to find local maximums in order to adjust the hidden nodes' weights and the output nodes' weights. I am certain in that I have this correct for sigmoid. I am less certain with softmax (or whether I can use gradient descent at all), after a bit of researching, I couldn't find the answer and decided to compute the derivative myself and obtained softmax'(x) = softmax(x) - softmax(x)^2 (this returns an column vector of size n). I have also looked into the MATLAB NN toolkit, the derivative of softmax provided by the toolkit returned a square matrix of size nxn, where the diagonal coincides with the softmax'(x) that I calculated by hand; and I am not sure how to interpret the output matrix. I ran each implementation with a learning rate of 0.001 and 1000 iterations of back propagation. However, my NN returns 0.2 (an even distribution) for all five output nodes, for any subset of the input dataset. My conclusions: o I am fairly certain that my gradient of descent is incorrectly done, but I have no idea how to fix this. o Perhaps I am not using enough hidden nodes o Perhaps I should increase the number of layers Any help would be greatly appreciated! The dataset I am working with can be found here (processed Cleveland): http://archive.ics.uci.edu/ml/datasets/Heart+Disease

  • Programmatically manipulating DOM element value doesn't fire onchange event

    - by Johan Fredrik Varen
Hi all. I've got a hidden form field, and when a button gets pressed the value of the hidden field is changed. Now, I've added an observer to the hidden field, listening for changes to occur. For some reason, though, the event listener never kicks in, even though the value of the hidden element changes. I'm using Prototype and Firefox 3.6. The code looks roughly like this: button.observe('click', function(event) { hiddenField.setValue(someValue); }); hiddenField.observe('change', function(event) { alert('It works!'); }); Does anyone have a clue why the latter observer doesn't execute? Thanks!

  • javascript increment index in funciton

    - by mcgrailm
I'm just trying to figure out how to create an index inside a function so I can keep track of the items its generating and I'm not sure how to do this seems like I should know this.. addLocation(options, location) funciton addLocation(options, location){ $('#list').append('<li class="location"><div>'+location.label+'</div>'+ '<input type="hidden" name="location['+x+'][lat]" value="'+location.lat+'" />'+ '<input type="hidden" name="location['+x+'][lon]" value="'+location.lon+'" />'+ '<input type="hidden" name="location['+x+'][loc]" value="'+location.loc+'" />'+ '<input type="hidden" name="location['+x+'][label]" value="'+location.label+'" />'+ '</li>'); } now normally you have a forloop to help you keep track of things but int this instance I'm not appending items in a loop and I keep getting an error saying x in undefined appreciate any help you can give thanks Mike

  • Web framework with JasperReports integration?

    - by Dave Jarvis
What web development frameworks natively support JasperReports? Consider the following form as an example: <form name="report" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="REPORT_PATH" value="reports/Names" /> <input type="hidden" name="REPORT_FILE" value="List" /> <input type="hidden" name="REPORT_FORMAT" value="pdf" /> <input type="hidden" name="REPORT_EMBED" value="false" /> Name: <input type="text" name="report_Name" value="" /><br /> Date: <input type="text" name="report_Date" value="" /><br /> <input type="submit" name="View" value="View" /> </form> The framework would pass the report_ parameters to JasperReports, which in turn runs reports/Names/List.jasper, and then sends a PDF attachment to the browser. In general: Ability to configure report (i.e., the hidden REPORT_ variables) Web FORM for setting report parameters (i.e., the report_ variables) Framework handles configuring database connection, report execution, etc. I don't care about the technical minutia on how the integration works. The example above is just one possibility of many.
