  i wonder where one can find template interfaces. eg. i am creating these classes that implements iLog: DatabaseLog ScreenLog FileLog i wonder what methods should a typical Log class have? is there a set of interfaces you could just implement/learn from rather than reinvent the wheel and have to think about the method names. eg.   Has anyone ever compared different LDAP servers? I am currently planning to upgrade ADAM to another server, and I'd like to know how do they perform. Currently the options that I am researching are: Active Directory (LDS) OpenLDAP Red Hat Directory Server OpenDS OpenDJ edit: I am looking for any kind of measurement that has been done. • Unable to convert file to UTF-8

  I am on windows xp sp3 and I am trying to convert a file from ASCII to UTF-8. I use notepad++ to do this. I go to Encoding Convert to UTF-8 without BOM. I save the file, reopen and it is still on ASCII. I am using this file in a webpage and I need the file to be UTF-8, because I have strings in utf-8 and they am seeing little squares with ? on them.

If I am using NetworkManager, do i need to turn off network service? Similarly, if I am using network service, do I need to turn off NetworkManager? • Ubuntu wired network disconnected

  I am not able to establish a wired network connection between two computers on which I just installed Ubuntu 10.04. I am new to this environment. Unlike in the Windows environment, where it happens by just connecting them with a cable, Ubuntu keeps flashing a notification saying "Wired network disconnected". Am I missing a driver or something? I am able to connect to the wi-fi router without issue. The wired connection is just not working.

• Can someone access my locally ran website even if I haven't specified any port forwarding?

  I am using Xampp so I can test my web application directly on my own computer. I am concerned that someone can access my Xampp site since I am still connected to the internet. However, I have NOT explicitly enabled any port forwarding with respect to my Xampp site in my router firewall settings. Furthermore, I am using a dynamic ip address. Given the factors already stated, can someone from outside my local network still access my locally ran website?

• Unable to SSH to a virtualbox Redhat

  I am using a MAC and using virtualbox to start a Redhat instance. The instance is started with two adapters (first being NAT, and second being host-only-adapter). The problem is that I am unable to SSH from my Mac to the virtualbox instance using the IP (I am able to ping the IP, though). I checked in the iptables and SSH is allowed (port 22), and sshd daemon is also running. Anything I am missing?

  I am looking at using either Debian or CentOS for a production server and I've heard mixed reviews of each one. I've heard CentOS performs better under load, however I am aware that Debian has a much larger package repository. Personally, I am partial to Debian since I am less familiar with Red Hat distros, but wanted to reach out on Server Fault to see which I really should be using. Any ideas? Thanks!

  I have purchases a server today and I am almost through configuring it, I have managed to install mysql and have enabled a firewall which allows access to ports 80, 22 and 443 I am trying to test out a simple php file to see whether all is well but I get a 404 Not found error, I am certain that this file exists which was created using vi as I have confirmed it using Filezilla. What am I missing? is there another step that I must take to allow a simple php file to work.

If I log in, or I am already logged in I am presented with the home page. I use my application key, and the connect url of the app I've setup in FB Developers page. What I am doing wrong, why I am not redirected to my url?
