• xVal ignoring fields that are hidden

  I have a form where a user can toggle receiving funds either via check or via electronic transfer. When they choose either way in a list box, the respective part of the form hides. If they choose electronic transfer only bank info fields show, if they choose via check only address info shows and the bank fields are hidden. Well, since they choose one way or another I want to, not validate for something that is hidden. (Client Side) Is there a way to set xVal to only validate fields that are not visible? • Don't Change URL in Browser When Clicking <asp:LinkButton>

  I have an ASP.NET page that uses a menu based on asp:LinkButton control in a Master page. When a user selects a menu item, an onclick handler calls a method in my C# code. The method it calls just does a Server.Transfer() to a new page. From what I have read, this is not supposed to change the URL displayed in the browser. The problem is it that the URL changes in the browser as the user navigates the menu to different pages. Here is an item in the menu: <asp:LinkButton id="foo" runat="server" onclick="changeToHelp"><span>Help</span> </asp:LinkButton> In my C# code, I handle the event with a method like: protected void changeToHelp(object sender, EventArgs e) { Server.Transfer("Help.aspx"); } Any ideas how I can navigate through the menu without the browser's URL bar changing?

• Using git to sync existing file collection?

  I've got a collection of files that formerly lived in a Subversion repo; on my new server I've imported them into a git repo so I could start getting more experience with that. On several other machines, I've got mostly up-to-date copies of the existing svn repo files. Is there any way to sync to the new git repo, but use these existing files so I don't have to re-transfer all of the data? Is git smart enough that if I do a fetch? or checkout? that it'll notice the files are identical and not re-transfer them?

I think I understand, because of "reference transfer". • SSIS - Limiting Concurrent Connections

  Hi Folks, I am using SSIS to connect to a legecy mainframe database and this allows only 5 concurrent connections at a time. I have a dataflow task with many tables to transfer and it kicks outs because of this limitation. I have split up the Data Flow task into seperate data flows and this is working for the moment, but it is not optiomal as they need to be sequenced and 1 large transfer in a flow is holding up subsequent transfers. Anyone any idea of how to limit the number of connections in a single data flow, I had a look at using the Engine Threads but this did not make any difference. Any help much appericated.

• Batch convert of Word docs with images to HTML

  OK, here is my situation: I made a knowledge base for a company, they have about 500 word documents with screenshots in them explaining procedures and such. I can easily paste the text into the cms wysiwyg editor on the knowledge base but the images need to be uploaded one at a time, then sized and placed in the article. Question: Is there any suggestions for an automatic method to to convert the documents to html with the appropriate image tags and links to the images in them, and export/package the images for ftp upload? I can already convert them to HTML automatically using a batch file and a program, but converting the images to the correct tags with href link, then exporting them for ftp is where i need some help. Might not even be possible, but if anyone has tried to do something like this I would like to here how you approached this.

  Hello everyone, I have two SQL Server 2008 Enterprise databases (on two machines), and one of the databases is master database and another database is slave database. I want to transfer update from a table in source database to a table in destination database (two tables are of the same schema, both of them are using a single column as unique primary key). The transfer rule is (in short, the rule is keeping the destination database the same as source database because of the update of the source database), if there is a new row in source database but not in destination database, insert the row in destination database; if a row not exists in source database but exists in destination database, delete the row in destination database; if a row's content (i.e. columns other than primary key columns) changes in source database, update the new content into destination database. thanks in advance, George

• Inconsistent values in network switch throughput values

  Quite simple, I have a network switch with SNMP, and need to calculate the throughput of the switch port, so simply I use ifOutOctets. We transfer a file which is 145MB and if we use the total from the start, subtracted from the value at the end then the value is : 158901842 I simply can't get the value to match, or be anything similar to what the real transfer is. I understand that there may be excess traffic etc but I just can't get it to be anywhere similar (the server being tested has no traffic when this is not running) We have tried for a long time and suspect there may be an issue with the recording on the HP switch, do you have any suggestions, or how should we be calculating it?   I have a SQl Server 2005 database backup that I want to transfer to SQL Server 2008 on my server. I spent 3 days transferring the .bak file from my own machine to my server. I then tried to restore the bak file and I got an error. I then read online a completely different method for adding a SQL server 2005 Database to SQL server 2008 which was the detach and attach method which means I need to detach the database in SQL Server 2005 and then transfer the MDF file from it via ftp to my server and then attach it in SQL Server 2008. Well I already used a lot of bandwidth transferring the .bak file to my server. is there a way to convert my .bak file which is already on my server to an MDF file and attach it in SQL server 2008?

The ability to bundle a few files together into one, and have it come out smaller than any of them, is something I just accept as a fact, but how does it actually work? • Is it possible to use os.walk over SSH?

  I'm new to Python so forgive me if this is basic, I've searched but can't find an answer. I'm trying to convert a Perl script into Python (3.x) which connects to a remote server and copies the files in a given directory to the local machine. Integrity of the transfer is paramount and there are several steps built-in to ensure a complete and accurate transfer. The first step is to get a complete listing of the files to be passed to rsync. The Perl script has the following lines to accomplish this: @dir_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/dirname {} \\;'`; @file_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/basename {} \\;'`; The two lists are then joined to create $full_list. Rather than open two separate ssh instances I'd like to open one and use os.walk to get the information using: for remdirname, remdirnames, remfilesnames in os.walk(remotedir): for remfilename in remfilesnames: remfulllist.append(os.path.join(remdirname, remfilename)) Thank you for any help you can provide.

• Could 11.5 Million 401's be causing bottlenecks?

  I'm going to preface this with a warning: My knowledge about servers and networking is VERY limited, and if you provide me with technical answers, I probably won't understand much until I research your answer further. I'm trying to expand my knowledge and learn about it, though. If the information that I am able to provide in this question is insufficient to answer the question, I understand, and it can be closed. We have a SharePoint 2007 system that is extremely slow, mostly from huge amounts of use. We've been told that the main speed bottleneck is the access to the sql databases. However, they do provide a statistics dashboard, so I did some poking around, and noticed that we have 11.5 million or more 401 - access denied errors every month. Could this be causing major speed/performance decreases? Authentication for sharepoint uses active directory.

• Mount drive with two drive letters instead of one.

  Hi everyone a co-worker of mine absolutely insists that it's possible to mount a drive in windows server 2003 with two letters instead of one. He's not talking about mounting a drive into an empty ntfs - folder. example: use ab:\ instead of a:. I'm pretty sure that's not possible. I'm working with over 300 windows servers and never noticed that kind of feature. I also cant find any knowledge base or technet article which describes that kind of feature. • How would you rewrite/refactor this ?

  Old application that is used by 50-60.000 paying customers. Company is several hundred people big. Application has a lot of business critical code (30% of all code) written in classic asp. Application has a lot more .net code. Application has a COM+ bridge for enabling asp to "talk" to .net Organization lacks some/a lot knowledge on what is causing the 10-20% server-reset per day (might be due to COM+ ?) There is no red line through the application; no architecture, no real patterns etc. The application has been like this for at least 5 years. The asp code base is increasing, slowly but certainly. I have read refactoring stories and I have knowledge on why you some of the times should not re-write a system. I would love for the old asp code to vanish as well as the COM+ component. But the pain is that no one really knows what is going on inside the asp classic code and the attitude inside all the teams are "this is just how it is". Down the line, this causes a lot of other issues like recruiting, dev effeciency, business needs that cannot be met, scale etc. With these little facts, does that justify a re-write of the asp code and the removal of the COM+ component ? How would you go about it ?

• West Palm Beach Dev Group August 2012 Meeting Recap

  As the saying goes, it’s better late than never. Such is the case with my overdue West Palm Beach Dev Group August 2012 meeting report. Our August meeting was full of both knowledge and adventure. It comes as no surprise that the knowledge was brought to us by our favorite DotNetNuke Technical Evangelist, Will Strohl. Will introduced and thoroughly presented the new social features in DNN 6.2. Unfortunately, our meeting date coincided with Hurricane Isaac having just passed us by. Aside from road closures and floods that kept public schools closed for two days, our meeting host, PC Professor, had to close the school the day of our meeting on a short notice due to flooding which we found out about at midnight on the day of the event.  This left us scrambling to find an available alternate meeting location close enough to our original venue. Cancelling the meeting was always an option, but we opted to keep it as the very last resort. Luckily, we were fortunate to find a meeting room at the Hampton Inn only a few minutes away from our original location. Having heard of our challenge, our event sponsor, Applied Innovations, stepped-in and covered the meeting room cost in addition to the food and beverages.
