  • Ubuntu 12.04.1 desktop monitor Out of Range

    I know this question has been asked many-a-times, but I cant seem to get a definate answer to it. I am running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on my HP Pavillion a6 109n PC. Processor is a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core Processor. Everytime I boot up my desktop, it runs BIOS, then it boots up Linux. After about 10 seconds, a little blue screen comes up saying: Out of Range: H. Frequency: 92.7KHz V. Frequency: 58.3Hz Can anyone help with this? Thanks! Zach

    There are some simple configuration changes that you can make on machine.config and IIS to give your web applications significant performance boost. These are simple harmless changes but makes a lot of difference in terms of scalability. By tweaking system.net changes, you can increase the number of parallel calls that can be made from the services hosted on your servers as well as on desktop computers and thus increase scalability.     for work I need to get a a new and cheap graphics card for a dual boot machine: windows xp/ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The only requirements I have are: it should work 'flawlessly' in ubuntu (proprietary drivers are ok) it should handle Guild Wars 2 & League of Legends in windows xp (this is really the top priority as we need to be able to play at work :) - yes I have a cool job) I know nothing about graphics cards (and it seems to be a jungle out there). Many are the memory editors that allow you to detect and freeze values, like your player's health. How do you prevent cheating via memory-modifiation? What strategies are effective to combat this kind of cheating? For reference, I know that players can: - Search for something by value or range - Search for something that changed value - Set memory values - Freeze memory values I'm looking for some good ones. Two I use that are mediocre are: Displaying values as a percentage instead of the number (eg. 46/50 = 92% health) A low-level class that holds values in an array and moves them with each change. (For example, instead of an int, I have a class that's an array of ints, and whenever the value changes, I use a different, randomly-chosen array item to hold the value)

  • How do I forward `<Ctrl>-<Tab>` in Konsole?

    I want to use intelligent tabbing in Emacs in C++ mode, but I also want to be able to insert a tab character when necessary. From other posts, I gather that the easiest way is to bind <Ctrl>-<Tab> to indent. However, it appears that Konsole in KUbuntu won't forward the <Ctrl>? My current .emacs file contains: (defun my-c-mode-common-hook () (setq c++-tab-always-indent t) (setq tab-width 4) (setq indent-tabs-mode t) ) (add-hook 'c-mode-common-hook 'my-c-mode-common-hook) (global-set-key [C-tab] 'self-insert-command) So I believe that this will bind <Ctrl>-<Tab> to inserting a tab character. However, when I run: <Ctrl>-h k <Ctrl>-<Tab> Emacs only reports that I pressed the tab key. Is there some option to Konsole (which I have searched through to no avail) or global preferences in KUbuntu that I need to set so that the <Ctrl>- is also forwarded? (It certainly forwards all of the other <Ctrl>-blah commands.)

  • Unity does not use the categories from the .desktop files

    I installed the educational version of Ubuntu with Unity. This is for kids. The most important applications are the ones that the descriptions says are specially added for kids. Trying to find them is a pain in the applications directory. They are organized in the main menu, but Unity does not use the main menu information for anything. Bottom line, I am now going to reinstall Ubuntu and NOT include Unity. The panels feature is nice, but there needs to some ability to organize the applications -- either with a menu or a directory structure that is read. The .desktop files indicate categories ... like education. Why does Unity not use this information?

  • use ubuntu notebook as second monitor for fedora desktop

    I was wondering if there is a possibility to use my netbook with ubuntu 12.04 as a second monitor for my fedora desktop, because its keyboard is broken but everything else is running just fine. I already read about x2x, but I hope there is a more direct way to do this (I mean not over the WLAN but e.g. via LAN etc... ). Would it be possible to directly use the monitor without even running the laptop? For example through an VGA adapter? Thanks for your replies!

  • Unity Desktop Displays strange lines

    Didn't quite know what title to give this problem, but hopefully the screenshot will explain more. I am running a Samsung R60+ laptop on Ubuntu 13.10 with a Radeon X1250 GPU. After I login and the Unity desktop shows, I can see these strange lines at the top of the screen. I presumed it was perhaps a driver issue and found this article to see if I could resolve the issue: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver I cannot get on with Unity at all (where are all of the menus gone!) so perhaps reverting back to Gnome may be a solution in my case? I'd welcome any ideas please.

  • Installing Ubuntu Desktop on usb stick

    trying to install Ubuntu Desktop on a USB stick but I do not succeed. First time I tried, the USB stick contained an installation of USB server and I wanted to start over again. However, it complained about partioning. Removed all the partitions from the stick and tried again, hoping that the installer would help me out with partioning... But now the USB stick did not show up at all... Created one partion NTFS on the USB stick and tried again but the only "automated" alternative I get for installing is to overwrite or add Ubuntu to my HDD which already contains Windows, something that I do not want... Do I need to manually create partions on the stick in the installer? Which partitions should I create? The USB stick is 8GB and the machine that I will test it on has 8GB memory.     I have come to conclusion that all my needs from nautilus is satisfied with terminal and last file manager. It also dismisses the need for multiple nautilus instances, which makes mess when I forgot how I meant to use different workspaces. The next step for my simplification would be to get rid of any possibility to open nautilus. Also I thought that my interaction with computer is file centred, therefore it makes sense to leave file manager in background of applications. Are there any ways to make terminal as desktop background with which I could interact?

  • 12.04 Ambiance dark side bar issue when clicking folder on desktop

    Concerning an updated custom ambiance theme: why is there no dark side bar when I click on a folder, like the home folder icon on the desktop, but the theme works as planned when I type nautilus in the terminal to open the home folder or when opening a folder up as root? Permissions issue perhaps? Note: I am using Cinnamon instead of Unity and I noticed it uses the Nemo file manager instead of Nautilus and I suspected that it was causing me the grief. I uninstalled it and now am using Nautilus only as the file manager. I found this out when I typed: sudo killall nemo and the problem went away. I'll see how this goes (and hopefully cinnamon doesn't care about it...) Has anyone else had any issues with this?

    Given that I am a PHP programmer and open-source is a must, what would be the best and practical programming language to use for all of the following: A desktop/cross-platform application. I've read that with HTML5, creating offline apps are possible? A web application. Android and iPhone/iPad apps. I am leaning towards using Python but I am not sure if it is possible to use it alone for all of them. There are other languages that I am also looking at like Ruby, Scala and Java.   • access denied when trying to open terminal on desktop

    ok so heres the skinny. I just moved some file using the sudo su command so i can move them to bin folder in file system then after closing terminal tried to reopen from desktop and got permission denied. I then rebooted and now i cant access my account and when trying to login it starts to boot then back to login screen. I then boot up in xterm and i get this message bash: /home/chris/.bashrc:Permission denied. I'm currently running xubuntu 10.04 and would like to get back in to that user. Can someone please help me. Not a noob but close to it. Thanks to anyone who helps and the quicker the better.
