There are various mobile platform are available, Android,iOS,Moblin,Windows mobile 7,RIM,symbian,bada,maemo etc. And making of corss platform application is headache for developers. I am searching common thing across the platforms which will help to developers who want to port application to all platforms.Like what is the diff screen resolution, input methods, open gl support etc. please share details that you know for the any of platform . or is there possibilities , by writing code in html (widget type of thing) and load it into native application.   • iOS Switching an embedded view in storyboard

    I have been trying to figure this out all day and I know it should be able to be done, but being new to iOS development using Objective-C and not Appcelerator I'm having newbie issues. What I am trying to accomplish is to have an embedded view in one of my other views, but to be able to switch which view is embedded through programming. I am using storyboards. When I tried to use the view container it displays the attached view, but I cannot attach multiple views to the container in the storyboard. I drew up an image, but to my annoyance I cannot post an image on here because I don't have enough "rep" points, so I posted it on my site: http://static.c6gx.com/images/iphone-embedded-views-diagram.jpg Later on I would like what appears to be a push segue, within that view container, but first I just want to be able to switch between embedded view 1, 2, 3, etc. Am I supposed to be using a view container to accomplish this, or some other type of controller? Then how would I call the transition to change the view? Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Embedded "Smart" character LCD driver. Is this a good idea?

    I have an embedded project that I am working on, and I am currently coding the character LCD driver. At the moment, the LCD driver only supports "dumb" writing. For example, let's say line 1 has some text on it, and I make a call to the function that writes to the line. The function will simply seek to the beginning of the line and write the text (plus enough whitespace to erase whatever was last written). This is well and good, but I get the feeling it is horribly inefficient sometimes, since some lines are simply: "Some-reading: some-Value" Rather than "brute force" replacing the entire line, I wanted to develop some code that would figure out the best way to update the information on the LCD. (just as background, it takes 2 bytes to seek to any char position. I can then begin writing the string) My idea was to first have a loop. This loop would compare the input to the last write, and in doing so, it would cover two things: A: Collect all the differences between the last write and the input. For every contiguous segment (be it same or different) add two bytes to the byte count. This is referenced in B to determine if we are wasting serial bandwidth. B: The loop would determine if this is really a smart thing to do. If we end up using more bytes to update the line than to "brute force" the line, then we should just return and let the brute force method take over. We should exit the smart write function as soon as this condition is met to avoid wasting time. The next part of the function would take all the differences, seek to the required char on the LCD, and write them. Thus, if we have a string like this already on the LCD: "Current Temp: 80F" and we want to update it to "Current Temp: 79F" The function will go through and see that it would take less bandwidth to simply seek to the "8" and write "79". The "7" will cover the "8" and the "9" will cover the "0". That way, we don't waste time writing out the entire string. Does this seem like a practical idea?

  • Creating a form for editing embedded documents with MongoMapper

    I'm playing around with MongoMapper but I'm having trouble figuring out how to create a form for an object that has embedded documents. With ActiveRecord, I'd use fields_for but when asked if this would be supported a few months ago, MongoMapper author John Nunemaker wrote: "Nope and nope. It is really [not] that hard with attr_accessor's." OK, fair enough, but how do you write the form for this to work? I'm not interested in using the nested form implementations that are out there because I want to do this the "normal" way as I'm learning about MongoMapper. My model is simple enough - I've got a Person with embedded documents for email addresses, phone numbers, etc. I do not care about updating existing embedded documents. They can be re-created from the form input each time a Person is edited.

  • Programmatically modifying an embedded resource before registering/referencing it on the page

    Hi All, Firstly, "Modifying" may be the wrong term, I see a few people have posted online just asking whether they can actually modify an embedded resource. What I am wanting to to, is use a resource in my assembly as a kind of template which I would do a find and replace on before registering it on the page - is this possible? For example; say I have a few lines of jQuery as an embedded resource in my assembly and in this script I am referencing a CSS class name that can be set by the front-end programmer. Since I do not know what the CSS class will be until implementation, is there a way of going through the embedded resource and replacing, say, $myclass$ with ThisClassName. Any help would be appreciated, if it's not possible then at least tell me so I can stop chasing my tail. Cheers, James

  • Embedded strongly-typed views with ASP.NET MVC

    I'm working on a plugin-type of system for ASP.NET MVC that loads views from an embedded assembly. I have created a VirtualPathProvider that does the work of retrieving out of the assembly. Everything is working fine except for strongly-typed views. Whenever I try to load one of those, I get an exception of: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'. The problem is that there is no Web.config file under the Views folder. Well, actually there is, but the system doesn't seem to want to read the embedded version. If I manually create the file under the corresponding directory in the web app, everything is fine. This isn't an acceptable workaround however, as each plugin would need its own file in its own specific directory. Does anyone know how I might get ASP to read the embedded Web.config file? I'm starting to work on a project involving industrial handheld terminals. I'm early into the design phase and need to find a comparison of Windows CE and Windows Mobile. Many of the people I'll be talking to jump on the first option that sounds "good enough". I want my first suggestion to be the best based on their needs. We're talking heavy duty hardware with a heavy duty price. I've got to get the programming questions out of the way early. We're currently a MFC6 and .Net 2.0 shop

  • How well does knowledge of J2ME generalize to other mobile platforms?

    I'm considering taking mobile phone software development course at my university. The course uses J2ME with an emulator. I'm interested in software development for mobile phones, but I get the impression that J2ME is somewhat stale and limited in comparison to the newer platforms like the iPhone and Android. I'm most interested in Android, as I dislike the closed nature of the iPhone. So if I take the course, how well would the skills acquired transfer to a platform like Android? And I have a related question. I'm pretty comfortable with Java (and various other programming languages), but I haven't used J2ME. Is there anything that makes it particularly painful to program with? (Not that Java is that pleasant anyway :))

    I understand that there are no browsers currently which support offline storage for mobile 6.1. I am trying to find a web form based solution avoiding the loss of data when my device has no connectivity. Have ruled out Gears and would like to avoid a win forms application as the forms change so often. Are there any other approaches that I should look at which are viable in C#? Are there any estimated dates for when we might see a browser for mobile 6.1 which can offer offline storage? Thanks

  • Loading multiple embedded flash apps onto an HTML page- problem with ordering

    We need to load an embedded version of a site written in Flash, and not originally designed to load multiple instances of itself, on a HTML page. The specific issue is how to get them to load in order when embedded, given that they are all being opened by the same instance of the flash player. It's a complicated mapping application, and at the moment, the maps and data get intermixed as the session variables are overwritten by another instance starting to load before the previous one has finished. We need a way to have them load sequentially, one finishing before another starts to load. The most we can specify in the URL is an &order=1 or similar. We have PHP and SQL on the backend. Edit: The embedded versions are being loaded in an iFrame of a parent site. One php file loads one swf, as many times as the parent site desires.

    Basically what I'm trying to do is have 3 css stylesheets for desktop, mobile, and tablet. And I don't care if it is ipad or samsung galaxy tab as long as I know it is a tablet, so that I just apply tablet css to it. Same as iphone or Nexus which I don't care either. I just care about the dimension basically. That would be good if JQuery Mobile could do this. I know there is lots of code for detecting iphone, ipad, and etc, hope my post still makes sense.   • Anyone been successful changing their career without having to start over from scratch?

    I posted a similar question on careeroverflow, but stackoverflow is just way more active and has way more users, so hopefully someone out there can help answer. I am currently an embedded developer in the defense/aerospace world for a big company. While I like the benefits and the pay, it just isn't keeping me happy. The Paul Graham article: How To Do What You Love really struck home. The problem I face are my golden handcuffs. When I look at jobs out there, they all want 5+ years experience in that language with expertise in framework/tool/server A,B,C, etc... I have worked in C and C++ on the job (in a real-time embedded environment) with some small things in C# and Java. I'm learning Ruby now to expand my knowledge, but I don't consider myself an expert in anything right now. I'd love to work on desktop applications or web apps. Is it possible for someone like me to make the switch without going back to the start line? I'd love to leave the huge bureaucracy and work with some great developers. I'd be willing to work late and take a modest pay cut, but that isn't so clear just from a resume. For those that have altered their career path, how did you do it? For those people who are in charge of hiring, what can I do to help myself?

  • What Computing/Programming Qualifications should I aspire for

    I am a computing science post graduate in my first job from after my degree. During my 12 month review my boss posed the question "What can we do for you in terms of progressing your career?". This got me thinking, after university I hadn't really thought about what other qualifications were available. So this is my question, what courses/qualifications should I be looking to do. Which are highly regarded and which would be really useful to complete. I've searched Google it but all I see is a jumble of courses with no idea of the credibility of each. Any help is much appreciated. I'm traditionally a systems architect, but with this job I've turned to more embedded work so Id like to edge towards electronics, embedded programming, real time OS to help with my work also it would be more likely to be accepted if it was related to my job. Finally UK based courses/ qualifications are a must as travel is probably out of the question. Help me grow as a programmer.
