  • Price Drop for Processor based License on Exalytics

    - by Mike.Hallett(at)Oracle-BI&EPM
    ·       33% reduction in the list `per processor` license pricing for the Oracle BI Foundation Suite ·       New capacity-based licensing which allows customers to think big & start small, significantly lowering the entry price point for an Exalytics. Oracle BI Software List Price changes In response to new powerful platforms like the in-memory Oracle Exalytics with 40 cpu cores (counted under Oracle pricing policy as 20 “processors”), the list price of “Oracle BI Foundation Suite” (BIFS) is reduced by 33% from $450K per processor to $300K per processor. Capacity-based licensing on Exalytics (Trusted Partitions) “Capacity-based pricing” for the BIFS, Endeca, Essbase and Times Ten for Exalytics software is now available for Exalytics systems. This is delivered using “Oracle VM” (OVM).  We still ship a full Exalytics machine to all customers, but they may choose to only use and license a subset of the processors installed in the machine.   Customers can license Exalytics software in units of 5 “processors”: 5, 10, 15 or the full capacity 20.   As the customer’s implementation and workload increases, it is a simple matter to license additional processors and, using OVM, make them available to the BI or EPM application. Endeca Information Discovery now available on Exalytics Oracle has also announced the certification of “Oracle Endeca Information Discovery” (EID) on the Exalytics machine.    EID can be licensed alone or in combination with the BIFS & Times Ten for an Exalytics stack, and also participates in the capacity based pricing outlined above.   The Exalytics hardware is the perfect platform for EID, and provides superb power and performance for this in-memory hybrid text-search-analytics.   For more information : Oracle Price lists Oracle Partitioning Policy Discussion by Mark Rittman (Rittman Mead Consulting ltd.) on Oracle Trusted Partitions for Oracle Engineered Systems, Oracle Exalytics and Updated BI Foundation Pricing.

  • AdvanceTimePolicy and Point Event Streams In StreamInsight.

There are a number of ways to issues CTIs (Current Time Increments) into your StreamInsight streams but a quite useful way is to do it declaratively on your source factory like this public AdapterAdvanceTimeSettings DeclareAdvanceTimeProperties<TPayload>(InputConfig configInfo, EventShape eventShape) {     return new AdapterAdvanceTimeSettings(         new AdvanceTimeGenerationSettings(configInfo.CtiFrequency, TimeSpan.FromTicks(-1)),         AdvanceTimePolicy.Adjust); } This will issue a CTI after every event and allows no delay (for delayed events) by stamping the CTI with the timestamp of the last event minus 1 tick. The very last statement "AdvanceTimePolicy.Adjust" tells the adapter what to do with events that violate the policy (arrive late).  From BOL "Events that violate the inserted CTI are moved in time if their lifetime overlaps with the CTI timestamp. That is, the start timestamp of the events is set to the most recent CTI timestamp, which renders those events valid. If both start and end time of an event fall before the CTI timestamp, then the event is dropped." This means that if you are using this method of inserting CTIs for a Point event stream and have specified "AdvanceTimePolicy.Adjust" for the violation policy, this setting will be ignored and instead it will use "AdvanceTimePolicy.Drop" because a Point event can never straddle a CTI.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Faster boot, Hibernate & other questions

    - by Samarth Shukla
I've recently started exploring Ubuntu (my 1st distro). I fresh installed precise without a swap (4GB ram). The only issues are, slow boot (regardless of the swap) and instability after a few days of installation. The runtime performance is immaculate otherwise. Even though not needed, I still set swappiness = 10. I've tried the quiet splash profile to GRUB; already have preload installed. But it still is pretty slow. I am not too confident on recompiling the kernel yet. But you could please advice me on that too. I've also added the following to fstab: #Move /tmp to RAM: tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults, noexec, nosuid 0 0 (Also if you could please tell me the exact implication/scope of this tweak on physical ram & the swap.) But nothing has happened really. So what alternatives are there to make it boot faster? Also, right after fresh install, though no swap partition, the system still showed /dev/zram0 of arond 2GB which was never used (probably because of the above fstab edit). Finally, I experimented with Hibernate a little, but many claim that it doesn't work on 12.04. (Not to mention, I made a swap file of 4GB for it). What I did was: sudo gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla Then I added the following lines, saved the file, and closed the text editor: [Re-enable Hibernate] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate ResultActive=yes I also edited the upower policy for hibernate: gksudo gedit /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.upower.policy I added these lines: < allow_inactive >no< /allow_inactive > < allow_active >yes< /allow_active > But it did not work. So is there an alternate method perhaps that can make it work on 12.04?

  • Does Firefox Phishing Protection / Safebrowsing have any privacy implications?

    - by Nowo
The current google results are outdated. What is the current status? I was on www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/privacy/firefox.html and saw "Protection Against Suspected Forgery and Attack Sites Features". Can you translate please more to human speak? First they download a list and compare local... Ok... Here it gets messy "If there is a match, Firefox will check with its third party provider to ensure that the website is still on the blacklist. The information sent between Firefox and its third party provider(s) are hashed URLs. In fact, multiple hashed URLs are sent with the real hash so that the third party provider(s) will not know what site you are visiting." - If that hash were send to mozilla, they would knew which site were accessed? "In order to safeguard your privacy, Firefox will not transmit the complete URL of web pages that you visit to anyone other than Mozilla and its service providers." - In other words, Mozilla and its service providers get all complete URLs (of sites, which were in blacklist)? "While it is possible that a third party service provider may determine the actual URL from the hashed URL sent, Mozilla’s policy is to require [...]" - Privacy is depends on policy rather than technology?

  • Define a Policykit action for Upstart

    - by gentakojima
I'm trying to get some user to start, stop and reload services by using the udev Upstart interface. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. • Coordinate and positioning problem on iOS with cocos2d-x

    - by Vexille
I'm using cocos2d-x alongside with Marmalade and running some tests and tutorials before starting an actual project with them. So far things are working reasonably well on the windows simulator, Android and even on Blackberry's Playbook, but on iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) the positioning seems to be off. To make things clearer, I put together a scene that just draws an image in the middle of the screen. It worked as expected on everything else, but this is the result I got on an iPhone: To get the coordinates for the center of the screen I'm using the VisibleRect class from the TestCpp sample. It just uses sharedOpenGLView to get the visible size and visible origin, and calculate the center from that. CCSprite* test = CCSprite::create("Ball.png", CCRectMake(0, 0, 80, 80) ); test->setPosition( ccp(VisibleRect::center().x, VisibleRect::center().y) ); this->addChild(test); Also I have a noBorder policy set on AppDelegate: CCEGLView::sharedOpenGLView()->setDesignResolutionSize(designSize.width, designSize.height, kResolutionNoBorder); One funny thing is that I tried to deploy the TestCpp sample project to some iOS devices and it worked reasonably well on the iPhone, but on the iPad the application was only being drawn on a small portion of the screen - just like what happened on the iPhone when I tried using the ShowAll policy.

  • Bluetooth mouse no longer paired after resuming from suspend since upgrading to 13.10

    - by Korakys
Since upgrading to 13.10 from 13.04 my mouse no longer connects via bluetooth. In settings it states that the mouse is not paired. Restarting bluetooth with sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart does not help. Restarting the computer does fix the problem if bluetooth is restarted also with the previously mentioned command, but this is not ideal. The mouse worked fine prior to updating to 13.10. The computer is a ThinkPad X230 with a Broadcom 'BCM20702A0' bluetooth module (I think). • Summary of usage policies for website integration of various social media networks?

    - by Dallas
To cut to the chase... I look at Twitter's usage policy and see limitations on what can and can't be done with their logo. I also see examples of websites that use icons that have been integrated with the look and feel of their own site. Given Twitter's policy, for example, it would appear that legal conversations/agreements would need to take place to do this, especially on a commercial site. I believe it is perfectly acceptable to have a plain text button that simply has the word "Tweet" on it, that has the same functionality. My question is if anyone can provide online (or other) references that attempt to summarize what can and can't be done when integrating various social networks into your own work? The answer I will mark as the correct one will be the one which provides the best resource(s) giving the best summaries of what can and can't be done with specific logos/icons, with a secondary factor being that a variety of social networking sites are addressed in your answer. Before people point to specific questions, I am looking for a well-rounded approach that considers a breadth of networks and considerations. Background: I would like to incorporate social media icons and functionality, but would like to consider what type of modifications can be done without needing to involve lawyers. For example, can I bring in a standard Facebook logo, but incorporate my site color into the logo? Would the answer differ if I maintained their color, but add in a few pixels of another color to transition? I am not saying I want to do this, but rather using it as an example.

  • UIView inside UIView with Shadow?

    - by Rnegi
Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to draw a shadow for an UIView that was added inside a UIView with addSubview. I searched online and read the docs, but the Apple docs simply draw new shapes as shown below. I want to use the Core Graphics to add a shadow to the UIView, but am unsure how to do this to a UIView directly. CGContextRef myContext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //CGContextRef myContext = myCGREF; CGSize myShadowOffset = CGSizeMake (10, 10);// 2 CGContextSetShadow (myContext, myShadowOffset, 0); // 3 CGContextBeginTransparencyLayer (myContext, NULL);// 4 // Your drawing code here// 5 CGContextSetRGBFillColor (myContext, 0, 1, 0, 1); CGContextFillRect (myContext, CGRectMake (a_view.frame.origin.x, a_view.frame.origin.y , wd, ht)); CGContextEndTransparencyLayer (myContext);// 6 I know I should put this in the SuperView drawRect method, but I don't know how to make it so it adds a shadow to the views I add in addSubView. Thanks!

  • didSelectRowAtIndexPath TableView Popover Issue

I've tried a lot of different code examples including just brute force try this try that but, stumped. The popover left arrow seems to display just fine if the first row is displayed at the very top of the table view but, when the table scrolls down the popover left arrow doesn't align correctly with the table row selected. Solutions or suggestions would be most appreciated. CGRect myFrame = [tableView rectForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [self.editViewPopoverController setPopoverContentSize:CGSizeMake(320, 400)]; [self.editViewPopoverController presentPopoverFromRect:CGRectMake(myFrame.origin.x, myFrame.origin.y + offset, 400, 0) inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionLeft animated:YES]; Thanks.

  • How to enlarge dynamically an UILabel (label and font size)?

    - by Flocked
Hello, Im currently working on an iPhone project. I want to enlarge dynamically an UILabel in Objective-C like this: How is this possible? I thought I have to do it with CoreAnimation, but I didn't worked. Here is the code I tried: UILabel * fooL = //[…] fooL.frame = CGRectMake(fooL.frame.origin.x, fooL.frame.origin.y, fooL.frame.size.width, fooL.frame.size.height); fooL.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:80]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseIn]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; fooL.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:144]; //bigger size fooL.frame = CGRectMake(20 , 44, 728, 167); //bigger frame [UIView commitAnimations]; The problem with this code is that it doesn't change the fontsize dynamically.

  • Using MobileMe idisk as a git repository

    - by Ben Guest
I am trying to use git and MobileMe as a version control system for a personal project I am working across several computers. So far i have done the following. Created and empty bare repository on my local computer $ mkdir myproject.git $ cd myproject.git $ git init --bare $ git update-server-info I then copied the myproject.git directory to the mobile me disk, and sync my computer with mobile me. I then switched to the directory where my project was on my local machine, set the remote origin and try to push the local repository to mobile me $ cd myproject $ git remote add origin https://<username>@idisk.me.com/<username>/myproject.git/ $ git push --all Im am then asked for my password twice. The first time is the mobile me password, any other password gets an error. After entering the second password, and believe me i've tried everything, terminal just hangs. So what am I doing wrong? (Besides trying to use mobileme as a git repository) Thanks, Ben.

  • git pull currently tracked branch

    - by Sean Clark Hess
I use git checkout -b somebranch origin/somebranch to make sure my local branches track remotes already. I would like a way to pull from the tracked branch no matter which branch I am using. In other words, I want to say git pull or some other command, without specifying the branch, and have it mean git pull origin somebranch if I'm on the local branch somebranch Is there a way to do this without putting an entry in the config file for each branch? It would be difficult to maintain if we have to remember to manually enter some config stuff for each branch.

  • Objective-C getter/ setter question

    - by pic-o-matic
Hi, im trying to works my way trough an Objective-C tutorial. In the book there is this example: @interface { int width; int height; XYPoint *origin; } @property int width, height; I though, hey there's no getter/setter for the XYPoint object. The code does work though. Now i'm going maybe to answer my own question :). I thinks its because "origin" is a pointer already, and whats happening under the hood with "width" and "height", is that there is going te be created a pointer to them.. Am i right, or am i talking BS :) ??

  • github like workflow on private server over ssh

    - by Jesse
I have an server (available via ssh) on the internet that my friend and I use for working on projects together. We have started using git for source control. Our setup currently is as follows: Friend created repository on server with git init named project.friend.git I cloned project.friend.git on server to project.jesse.git I then cloned project.jesse.git on server to my local machine using git clone jesse@server:/git_repos/project.jesse.git I work on my local machine and commit to the local machine. When I want to get his changes I do pull jesse@server:/git_repos/project.friend.git. Is there something that could be done better? Thanks!

  • Getting keyboard size from user info in Swift

    - by user3746428
I have been trying to add some code to move my view up when the keyboard appears, however I am having issues trying to translate the Objective C examples into Swift. I have made some progress but I am stuck on one particular line. These are the two tutorials/questions I have been following: How to move content of UIViewController upwards as Keypad appears using Swift http://www.ioscreator.com/tutorials/move-view-when-keyboard-appears Here is the code I currently have: override func viewWillAppear(animated: Bool) { NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: "keyboardWillShow:", name: UIKeyboardWillShowNotification, object: nil) NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: "keyboardWillHide:", name: UIKeyboardWillHideNotification, object: nil) } override func viewWillDisappear(animated: Bool) { NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().removeObserver(self) } func keyboardWillShow(notification: NSNotification) { var keyboardSize = notification.userInfo(valueForKey(UIKeyboardFrameBeginUserInfoKey)) UIEdgeInsets(top: 0, left: 0, bottom: keyboardSize.height, right: 0) let frame = self.budgetEntryView.frame frame.origin.y = frame.origin.y - keyboardSize self.budgetEntryView.frame = frame } func keyboardWillHide(notification: NSNotification) { // } At the moment I am getting an error on this line: var keyboardSize = notification.userInfo(valueForKey(UIKeyboardFrameBeginUserInfoKey)) If someone could let me know what this line of code should be, I should manage to figure out the rest myself.

  • How to change handedness of coordinates?

    - by 742
How to convert from Euler's coordinates E1 = (x1, y1, z1, yaw1, pitch1, roll1) to E2 = (x2, y2, z2, yaw2, pitch2, roll2) where x, y, z are the coordinates of a point and yaw, pitch, roll the direction/orientation of a vector which origin is the point. yaw is around y, pitch around x, roll around z. They are performed in that order. Yaw 0 is normal to the plan xy (opposite to z in E1 and equal to z in E2). E1 uses a right handed space and E2 a left handed space. Both have the same origin, the same direction for y (top) and z (into the screen). They differ by x which is to the left on E1 and to the right on E2. They also differ by their direction of positive rotations. I've a custom type to hold the scalar representation and to convert from and to the equivalent WPF Matrix3d representation.

  • Using git branches for variations of a project

    - by Trevor Hartman
I'm using git's branching feature to manage 5 variations of a small website. There are 5 versions that will all be live in different subdirectories on production. My approach to checking out the various branches to their respective folders was to: mkdir foo && cd foo git init git remote add origin git@...:project.git git fetch origin foo:foo Where "foo" is a given branch name. This was fine, except for that it pulled my entire repo (designs, as3 source, etc...) into those branch folders instead of just the public www folder, which is the only thing I really want on production. Is there a cleaner way to handle this? Git can't clone subdirectories right?

  • Calculate NSString size to adjust UITextField frame

    - by Bernd Plontsch
I have issues calculating the accurate size of a NSString displayed in a UITextField. My goal is to update the textfield frame size according to the string size programmatically (without using sizeToFit). I am using the sizeWithFont function. -(void)resizeTextFieldAccordingToText:(NSString*)textFieldString { CGPoint originalCenter = self.textField.center; UIFont* currentFont = [textField font]; CGSize newSize = [textFieldString sizeWithFont:currentFont]; //Same incorrect results with the extended version of sizeWithFont, e.g. //[textFieldString sizeWithFont:currentFont constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(300.0, 100.0) lineBreakMode:NSLineBreakByClipping]; [self.textField setFrame:(CGRectMake(self.textField.frame.origin.x, self.textField.frame.origin.y, newSize.width, newSize.height))]; [self.textField setCenter:originalCenter]; } Problem: While this return correct size results at first its becomes more and more unprecise by adding characters therefore finally starts clipping the string (as seen in the right screenshot). How do I get the accurate size of the textField string for correctly adjusting its size?

I am attempting to add features to a ray tracer in C++. Namely, I am trying to add texture mapping to the spheres. For simplicity, I am using an array to store the texture data. I obtained the texture data by using a hex editor and copying the correct byte values into an array in my code. This was just for my testing purposes. When the values of this array correspond to an image that is simply red, it appears to work close to what is expected except there is no shading. The bottom right of the image shows what a correct sphere should look like. This sphere's colour using one set colour, not a texture map. Another problem is that when the texture map is of something other than just one colour pixels, it turns white. My test image is a picture of water, and when it maps, it shows only one ring of bluish pixels surrounding the white colour. When this is done, it simply appears as this: Here are a few code snippets: Color getColor(const Object *object, const Ray *ray, float *t) { if (object->materialType == TEXTDIF || object->materialType == TEXTMATTE) { float distance = *t; Point pnt = ray->origin + ray->direction * distance; Point oc = object->center; Vector ve = Point(oc.x,oc.y,oc.z+1) - oc; Normalize(&ve); Vector vn = Point(oc.x,oc.y+1,oc.z) - oc; Normalize(&vn); Vector vp = pnt - oc; Normalize(&vp); double phi = acos(-vn.dot(vp)); float v = phi / M_PI; float u; float num1 = (float)acos(vp.dot(ve)); float num = (num1 /(float) sin(phi)); float theta = num /(float) (2 * M_PI); if (theta < 0 || theta == NAN) {theta = 0;} if (vn.cross(ve).dot(vp) > 0) { u = theta; } else { u = 1 - theta; } int x = (u * IMAGE_WIDTH) -1; int y = (v * IMAGE_WIDTH) -1; int p = (y * IMAGE_WIDTH + x)*3; return Color(TEXT_DATA[p+2],TEXT_DATA[p+1],TEXT_DATA[p]); } else { return object->color; } }; I call the colour code here in Trace: if (object->materialType == MATTE) return getColor(object, ray, &t); Ray shadowRay; int isInShadow = 0; shadowRay.origin.x = pHit.x + nHit.x * bias; shadowRay.origin.y = pHit.y + nHit.y * bias; shadowRay.origin.z = pHit.z + nHit.z * bias; shadowRay.direction = light->object->center - pHit; float len = shadowRay.direction.length(); Normalize(&shadowRay.direction); float LdotN = shadowRay.direction.dot(nHit); if (LdotN < 0) return 0; Color lightColor = light->object->color; for (int k = 0; k < numObjects; k++) { if (Intersect(objects[k], &shadowRay, &t) && !objects[k]->isLight) { if (objects[k]->materialType == GLASS) lightColor *= getColor(objects[k], &shadowRay, &t); // attenuate light color by glass color else isInShadow = 1; break; } } lightColor *= 1.f/(len*len); return (isInShadow) ? 0 : getColor(object, &shadowRay, &t) * lightColor * LdotN; } I left out the rest of the code as to not bog down the post, but it can be seen here. Any help is greatly appreciated. The only portion not included in the code, is where I define the texture data, which as I said, is simply taken straight from a bitmap file of the above image. Thanks.

  • iphone cocos2d sprites disappearing

    - by jer
I've been working on a game and implementing the physics stuff with chipmunk. All was going fine on the cocos2d part until the integration with chipmunk. A bit of background: The game is a game with blocks. Levels are defined in a property list, where positions, size of the blocks, gravitational forces, etc., are all defined for each block to be shown in the level. The problem is with the blocks showing up. I have a method on my BlockLayer class which is part of my game's main scene. Upon creation of the layer, the property list is read, and all the blocks are created. The following method is called to create the blocks: - (void)createBlock:(Block*)block withAssets:(NSBundle*)assets { Sprite* sprite; switch(block.blockColour) { case kBlockColourGreen: sprite = [Sprite spriteWithFile:[assets pathForResource:@"green" ofType:@"png" inDirectory:@"Blocks"]]; break; case kBlockColourOrange: sprite = [Sprite spriteWithFile:[assets pathForResource:@"orange" ofType:@"png" inDirectory:@"Blocks"]]; break; case kBlockColourRed: sprite = [Sprite spriteWithFile:[assets pathForResource:@"red" ofType:@"png" inDirectory:@"Blocks"]]; break; case kBlockColourBlue: sprite = [Sprite spriteWithFile:[assets pathForResource:@"blue" ofType:@"png" inDirectory:@"Blocks"]]; break; } sprite.position = block.bounds.origin; [self addChild:sprite]; if(block.blockColour == kBlockColourGreen || block.blockColour == kBlockColourRed) space-gravity = cpvmult(cpv(0, 10), 1000); cpVect verts[] = { cpv(-block.bounds.size.width, -block.bounds.size.height), cpv(-block.bounds.size.width, block.bounds.size.height), cpv(block.bounds.size.width, block.bounds.size.height), cpv(block.bounds.size.width, -block.bounds.size.height) }; cpBody* blockBody = cpBodyNew([block.mass floatValue], INFINITY); blockBody-p = cpv(block.bounds.origin.x, block.bounds.origin.y); blockBody-v = cpvzero; cpSpaceAddBody(space, blockBody); cpShape* blockShape = cpPolyShapeNew(blockBody, 4, verts, cpvzero); blockShape-e = 0.9f; blockShape-u = 0.9f; blockShape-data = sprite; cpSpaceAddShape(space, blockShape); } With the above code, the sprites never show up. However, if I comment out the "cpSpaceAddBody(space, blockBody);" line, the sprites show up. The position and size of the blocks are stored in the "bounds" property of instances of the Block class, which is a CGRect. Not sure if it's important, but the orientation of the app is in landscape left, and all the coordinates are based on that orientation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to see a branch created in master

    - by richard
Hi, I create a branch in my master repository (192.168.1.2). And in my other computer, I did '$ git pull --rebase ', I see Unpacking objects: 100% (16/16), done. From git+ssh://[email protected]/media/LINUXDATA/mozilla-1.9.1 62d004e..b291703 master -> origin/master * [new branch] improv -> origin/improv But when I do a 'git branch' in my local repository, I see only 1 branch and I did '$ git checkout improv ' $ git branch * master $ git checkout improv error: pathspec 'improv' did not match any file(s) known to git. Did you forget to 'git add'?

  • git: programmatically know by how much the branch is ahead/behind a remote branch

    - by Olivier
I would like to extract the information that is printed after a github status, which looks like: # On branch master # Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 2 commits. Of course I can parse the output of git status but this is not recommended since this human readable output is liable to change. There are two problems: How to know the remote tracked branch? It is often origin/branch but need not be. How to get the numbers? How to know whether it is ahead/behind? By how many commits? And what about the diverged branch case?
