  There might be a situation where one of my clients won't pay for the web site that I've made. So I am wondering if it is possible to sell a web site? It is an internet shop, so there is no content that comes with it, but the source code is fully available, and it has a decent design. I've seen people trying to sell web site templates, and I've seen people who try to sell already running web sites, and there are plenty of commercial web site engines out there. But what about raw empty web sites, is there a market for them?

I can pretty easily think of example problems with scale (Twitter's fail whale) or reliability (Netflix and Pinterest outages caused by a single datacenter in a storm). But can (lack of) speed really kill?

  One of the first ways I learned how to read xml data from external data sources was by using a DataSet’s ReadXML function. This function takes file path for an XML document and then converts it to a Dataset. This functionality is great when you need a simple way to process an XML document.  In addition the DataSet object also offers a simple way to save data in an xml format by using the WriteXML function. This function saves the current data in the DataSet to an XML file to be used later.   I've used WordPress for a few of my client's sites, mostly small businesses and eCommerce sites. I have found through Google Analytics as well as the All in One Webmaster plugin that when it comes to social media, using WordPress is a surefire way of getting your site indexed by Google and occasionally Bing and Yahoo. Since I am a heavy WP user, I'd like to contribute by registering a dot WordPress domain for my portfolio. When using a WP installation concurrently with a WP domain, e.g. myportfolio.wordpress.com, will the site be more or less likely to be indexed rather a generic myportfolio.com domain? I've seen mixed opinions where people seem to favor a WP domain for URL output where others say that it's a moot point, and that Google will not favor a WP domain over a dot com domain as long as your meta tags are updated and content is keyword optimized. I tend to disagree and believe a WP domain would more likely be indexed and output more URLs over an individual, laconic domain like myportfolio.com. Am I wrong?

• Unable to download microsoft excel files from a IIS SSL site

  The web master at my corporation added SSL to the web site and now none of my users can download Microsoft word and xcel files the sites generates. According to Microsoft the following must be down. Web sites that want to allow this type of operation should remove the no-cache header or headers. Typical of MS they don't tell you what to do, how to do it, or what the best practice is. The web master says its a web config setting. But all i can finds is <configuration> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <httpRuntime sendCacheControlHeader="false"/> and I don't know if this is the best way to achieve the result. I would greatly appreciate some advice on this subject.

• Best Option for Creating A Small Church Website

  I've been asked to create a website for a small church. Their prior site was hosted on geocities which is no longer. They are not looking for anything robust, just an informational site with a calendar and maybe a contact form. The church would also like to be able to administer the site with little technical know-how. Cost is also an issue. Given these requirements, something like sites.google.com seems like a good option. However, my main concern is that Sites will suffer the same fate as geocities. It is definitely not a flagship Google product. Are there other good alternatives that fit the requirements?

  One of our clients is getting a bit worried about the new "Do Not Track" feature of Internet Explorer 10. Her site is heavily dependent on php sessions (as I imagine many other sites are).   ok first I'm not sure if this is right stackexchange site to ask but I'm not sure if there is better one as question is quite general When I visit one site, and if this site runs google adsense campaign, I can see its ads on other sites. I suppose this is cookie from this site and than it's showing ads using the cookie However, I removed this specific cookie and cleared cache, and I can still see this same ad showing on other sites running adsense My question is, is there is something wrong with google chrome, is there a possibility that Google stores data within google chrome itself? If not, how else they could trace which ads to show?

  At http://people.mozilla.com/~prouget/ie9/ there is a very provocative article entitled "Is IE9 a modern browser?". There is a rebuttal by Tim Sneath at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/tims/archive/2011/02/15/a-modern-browser.aspx that is well worth a look. Certainly IE9 is already superior to its predecessors. My comment on the matter is that those that consider IE9 to be non-standards compliant, should submit tests to the W3C to demonstrate the non-compliance. Upon acceptance by the W3C, all the competing browsers can then be re-tested. I prefer objective tests to subjective opinion. I have used IE9 and on some sites such as Hotmail, it is noticeably faster. I have so far been unable to apply the promised IE9 lockout of spyware cookies. With Firefox, I just instal NoScript and never enable spyware sites.

• Find visitors to multiple subdomains on single visit with Google Analytics

  I'm working on a site that has quite the backlog of Google Analytics data for their site network. One of our big questions is whether people enter on one site and move to another (and if so, of course, how do these visits differ from single site visits). The hostname report (Audience Network Hostname) shows all the host names and I've setup Advanced Segments to get site-specific data. That all works great, but I'm really having a hard time figuring out how to find visits to multiple sites as defined by visiting more than one subdomain or the root site and one or more subdomains. I do see that other hostnames somehow come through when I apply one of the segments to the host name report. Which I can't say I expected. Is that the best way to see if people are visiting 2+ sites?

• Using IE 9 as my primary browser

  With the release of Internet Explorer 9 RC the browser looks to be in a usable state.  So far, my experience has been positive. However, one area where I am having problems is when people are using the jQueryUI library.  Versions older than 1.8 cause IE 9.0 to be unable to drag and drop.  This is a real pain, especially at sites like Agile Zen, where dragging and dropping is a primary bit of functionality. Now that IE 9 is a release candidate, we’ll see how quickly these things improve.  I expect things to be rough, but so far, I’m really liking IE 9.  There’s more real estate than Chrome (it’s the tabs inline with the address bar) and its faster than Chrome 9.0 and FF 3.6.8 (as tested on my own machine). The biggest drawback so far is that because IE has been so badly behaved in the past, sites expect it to be badly behaved now, which is breaking things now. Technorati Tags: Internet Explorer

Many designers said fluid width was better, but since user screens typically varied between 1024x768 and 1920x1080, fluid width allowed longer line length than is optimal for ease of reading, and so many sites (including Stack Exchange) use fixed width. Now that mobile devices are common, what is the the best approach to support both desktop and mobile browsers? Establish a separate mobile site (e.g: mobile.example.com) Serve a different CSS to mobile devices; if so how? Server-side browser sniffing, or a @media rule? Clarification - When someone purchases an item, I want (whatever the payment processor is) to automatically route a percentage of that payment to the affiliate and the rest to the original author.) • Can I use a desktop as a network server?

  Pardon me if I'm asking the wrong question. But I am a newbie in networking and I'm not sure what direction to go on this. I have just setup an Ubuntu Desktop. I am planning to convert it to a network server without losing the GUI interface (again, I'm a newbie) and use it to manage and monitor user access to a network with a small number of network terminals all running on Windows. My purpose is to use the new server to filter sites accessed by each terminals, monitor sites being visited by employees and grant access to both group and user-specific folders based on their IP address. Is this possible? What server software do I need to install? How do I structure the hardware? (I have a router, a hub, the Ubuntu server and the network terminals) How do I assign privileges to users and monitor them at the same time? Thank you in advance for your replies.

• Proper password handling for login

  I have read a lot about PHP login security recently, but many questions on Stack Overflow regarding security are outdated. I understand bcrypt is one of the best ways of hashing passwords today. However, for my site, I believe sha512 will do very well, at least to begin with. (I mean bcrypt is for bigger sites, sites that require high security, right?) I´m also wonder about salting. Is it necessary for every password to have its own unique salt? Should I have one field for the salt and one for the password in my database table? What would be a decent salt today? Should I join the username together with the password and add a random word/letter/special character combination to it? Thanks for your help!
