• Open Id XRDS Discovery

  I am working with Open Id, just playing around making a class to interact / auth Open Id's on my site (in PHP). I know there are a few other Libraries (like RPX), but I want to use my own (its good to keep help better understand the protocol and whether its right for me). The question I have relates to the Open Id discovery sequence. Basically I have reached the point where I am looking at using the XRDS doc to get the local identity (openid.identity) from the claimed identity (openid.claimed_id). My question is, do I have to make a cURL request to get the XRDS Location (X-XRDS-location) and then make another cURL request to get the actual XRDS doc?? It seems like with a DUMB request I only make one cURL request and get the Open Id Server, but have to make two to use the XRDS Smart method. Just doesn't seem right, can anyone else give me some info.

  I tried to build the ceplayit files (of directshow player samples). I added them to a smart device project based on the sdk for my device (named TEMP). I am using MFC in visual Studio 2005.   I'm sitting at work, waiting for traffic to die down. The thought occurred to me. I know when I want to go home, why don't I have an app that watches traffic for me? I also know that there are a lot of smart people on stackoverflow. Where can I get live traffic data for the san francisco bay area region? The data source should be timely, accurate, and as high resolution as possible. I would like to build an app on top of a service, rather than watch google maps or watch another website. I would prefer that I not have to scrape the data, but I have been know to do this in the past when no other option exists.

• Why is there no code-folding in emacs ?

  There are several questions on SO about how to get code folding in emacs, without having to add any special characters like "markers" in the comments for example. Someone said that there was "no perfect solution." It seems that it could be done by parsing the source of the program being written and look for matching parenthesis or bracket, or to do it based on indentation. You could also use a combination of scripts that use different methods. So why is it commonly accepted that there is no "perfect" and straightforward way to get code-folding in emac? Is there something in emacs or its architecture that makes it hard to program? If it were easy, after so many years of smart people using emacs you would think that someone would have wrote it.

• How can I stop sorl thumbnail from breaking with very long filenames?

  I've noticed that when working with SORL thumbnail, sometimes a user will upload an image with a very long filename, longer than the varfield in the database can hold. The name gets truncated in the database and the project gives errors whenever the image is requested. Is there a smart and safe way to have django automatically truncate long filenames in sorl uploads (prior to saving them in the database) to prevent this sort of thing? • Ways to save enums in database

  Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

• Filtering at server or at client?

  I am thinking about how to build advertise site which works like twitter. That means, most user don't not visit the site by browser, they should run a dedicated client application on their PC or smart phone. Then they set some filters about what kind of advertise they like. And when new post that fulfill their needs appear, the client will make a notification. To make that client as real time as possible, it has to poll the server within a short time interval. The problem is, should I do the filtering at the server side when client polls, or should I simply transfer all new posts to client and let client do the filtering? Making server side filtering might cause too much CPU cycles of server, but transferring every post blindly to client might waste a lot of bandwidth. Just a brain game. :)

I'm not interested in WAP/WML for this project. I'm building a ASP.Net 4 MCV 2 app and using MBDF What I'd like to know is how best to define this differentiation when using MBDF? Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices.   I have often fought the urge to ask questions that I know aren't appropriate on SO, because I personally haven't come across another online group who's opinions I would trust as much. What sites do you frequent that you have found good participation from a smart group of people where you can ask questions that are related to software, but not programming problems? This community also has a vast depth of knowledge about things related to software like marketing, graphics/UI, running a small business, working in bad jobs, etc. that would greatly benefit everyone else. Where do we go to tap all that knowledge? On stackoverflow.uservoice.com there is a popular suggested feature to sanction, or add to SO, a place to hold discussions that aren't about specific programming questions. It seems that the suggestion has been denied in the past though.

  I have a custom application in C++ that has been used to successfully copy-and-paste an object from the application into MS Office 2003 and 2007 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). The object opens in our own custom activeX control. Now with windows XP and PowerPoint 2010, nothing happens on the cut-and-paste. I have tried turning off the smart copy/paste to no avail. Copy/paste works with Word and Excel 2010. Do you have tips on how to debug this? Thanks Andrew

  Hi! I'm trying to make a C# program which will use a C .dll (unfortunately, the .dll doesn't have good documentation) to access a smart card. One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name. • How to pre-process CSV data for FasterCSV?

  We're having a significant number of problems creating a bulk upload function for our little app. We're using the FasterCSV gem to upload data to a MySQL database but he Faster CSV is so twitchy and precise in its requirements that it constantly breaks with malformed CSV errors and time out errors. The csv files are generally created by users' pasting text from their web sites or from Microsoft Word docs so it is not reasonable to expect that there will never be odd characters like smart quotes or accents in the data. Also users aren't going to be readily able to identify whether their data is perfect enough for FasterCSV or not. We need to find a way to fix it for them automatically. Is there a good way or a reliable tool for pre-processing CSV data to fix any nits in the data before having the FasterCSV gem process it?

I made it with functions used like rgb2ycbcr() in main method for each pixel, but it isn't so smart solution. I should use ColorSpace and ColorModel classes to get BufferedImage with correct color space. It would be more flexible method, but I don't know how to do that. I'm lost and I need some tips.   Hi there, I'm facing a situation where I have dependent objects and I would like to be able to remove an object and all references to it. Say I have an object structure like the code below, with a Branch type which references two Nodes. public class Node { // Has Some Data! } public class Branch { // Contains references to Nodes public Node NodeA public Node NodeB } public class Graph { public List<Node> Nodes; public List<Branch> Branches; } If I remove a Node from the Nodes list in the Graph class, it is still possible that one or more Branch objects still contains a reference to the removed Node, thus retaining it in memory, whereas really what I would quite like would be to set any references to the removed Node to null and let the garbage collection kick in. Other than enumerating through each Branch and checking each Node reference sequentially, are there any smart ideas on how I remove references to the Node in each Branch instance AND indeed any other class which reference the removed Node? • C++: building iterator from bits

  I have a bitmap and would like to return an iterator of positions of set bits. Right now I just walk the whole bitmap and if bit is set, then I provide next position. I believe this could be done more effectively: for example build statically array for each combination of bits in single byte and return vector of positions. This can't be done for a whole int, because array would be too big. But maybe there are some better solutions? Do you know any smart algorithms for this?

And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically.   I love Eclipse but I HATE auto-completion with a vengeance! I swear though, no matter how hard I look in prefs or Google I can't find where I turn this off! I'm having the problem with both CFEclipse and the PHP editor. How do I completely disable all "smart" quotes/tags/braces auto-inserting. Not some of it.. ALL of it. No matter how many options I untick both editors keep trying to finish my code for me.. usually with irritating results. Like this one (PHP editor): <img alt="banner" src="/images/banner.jpg"></img> This is HTML, not XHTML - I don't want, or need, my img tags closed. Anyway this is still happening after I've gone to Preferences | PHP | Editor | Typing and Preferences | PHP | Editor | Code Assist and unchecked every option. I can't be the only one having this issue but I can't find any howtos or help on this.

• Windows XP Home Edition SP3 cant recognise PCMIA SD Card

  System Specifications: Laptop : Dell Inspiron 6000 OS: Windows Home Edition SP3 SD Adapter: Hagiwara Smart Media Adapter I inserted the card into the slot, windows xp recognises the device, lists the pcmia controller on the device manager list, an entry appears under the IDE ATA/ATAPI category on the device manager as well. However, the device does not show under my computer and the driver does not get assigned a letter number. I checked the system logs from the device manager and there were no logged errors. Checking the Hagiwara support website, the manufacturer indicates that the adapter driver is the same as the windows xp pcmia controller. Checking Dell's website, no specific drivers were listed for that either. General Search on the web indicates that multiple people face similar problems with their SD cards, yet none actually spell out the route issue that causes this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for further debugging. Thanks in advance

  I need to do some regex replacement on HTML input, but I need to exclude some parts from filtering by other regexp. (e.g. remove all <a> tags with specific href="example.com…, except the ones that are inside the <form> tag) Is there any smart regex technique for this? Or do I have to find all forms using $regex1, then split the input to the smaller chunks, excluding the matched text blocks, and then run the $regex2 on all the chunks?

  I'm working on an embedded system which is going to be booting and hosting it's rootfs on an SSD disk. We are currently looking at using Intel X-18M SSDs. The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

• Alignment of Hebrew Vowel points in Android

  I want to display Hebrew text with vowel points (nikkud) using the Canvas.drawText interface. The vowel points come out misaligned, as in the following image taken using a Motorola Defy+ device: The hiriq is between the resh and the yod, the holam between the vav and nun. I have added the rtl code (\u200F) to the string at both ends, no joy. I know that there are applications that have solved this problem, such as the Smart Siddur. Is there a difference between text-based applications and graphics based? I would think that the same engine renders the text in both cases. I suppose I could split up the string and place the vowels separately, but that seems pretty painful and not extensible. TIA for any clues.

• How to make WordPress "Add/Edit Post" form more Tumblr like?

  Hi, WordPress requires you give each blog post at least two fields: a title and text body content. I'm wondering how to modify WordPress admin so I can sometimes enter a single field for a blog post, in particular a URL, without WordPress requiring a title (related but not the point of this question: a custom theme would then know how to handle a post that only contained a URL, it would treat it like a "Link" post in Tumblr). Ideally it'd be good if the "add/edit post" form could be modified so it only contains this single URL/Link field when this is wanted. I'm guessing this is possible through a plugin but I'm not certain. I'm hoping some smart WordPress devs are here to share and brainstorm ideas for how this could be done. • Flex: Would a computational engine for a Connect-4 type game be too slow?

  OK, I was just fooling around in my spare time and have made this cool interface and game-playing code for a Connect-4 type game, written in Flex and playable by 2 human players in Flash. It accurately detects wins, etc. I'm smart enough to know that I've done the easy part. Before I dig into an AI for game play, I wanted to ask if this is the kind of thing that can really be handled computationally by a Flash plugin. It seems to me that for every turn up until the end there are 8 possible moves, 8 responses to each move, etc. So wouldn't a perfect engine have to be able to potentially see 8^8 moves (over 16 million), and a fairly good engine see up to a million? I don't know game coding so this is new to me. What's a reasonable move horizon for such a game to be able to see?
