  • Cross-forest GPO between 2003 and 2008 Denied Beacuse it's "Inaccessible"

    I have a two-way, non-transitive trust between two forests and domains, "W2003" and "W2008". In W2008 I have a GPO with user settings linked to a machine OU containing machine "Server". The GPO applies to Authenticated Users. Cross-forest loopback processing is enabled in merge mode. When I log onto Server as User (whose account exists in the W2003 domain), the GPO does not apply. I run RSoP and see that the GPO is "Denied" for the reason "Inaccessible." The GPO name is not listed, but the GUID is. I have checked the file-level permissions on the DC to ensure that User has access to read the GPO's folder and all its contents. What is going on?

  • Terminal Server 2008 - Slow File open dialog in Office 2003

    I have yet another small issue that annoys me everyday in our Terminal Server environment. It seems when logging into Terminal Server users report the initial File | Open or File | Save As from within an application such as Word, Excel (2003 edition) is very slow to display the actual dialog box. The dialog appears quickly but it is whited out (sometimes displays not responding in title bar) and unresponsive, it then sits like this for about 20-30 secs before popping into life and displaying all the folders etc. The second time you go to save or open a file it loads almost instantly. Any suggestions or similar problems out there?

  • Remotedesktop to windows 2008 server with 2 nics

    Hi I have 2 NICs on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. nic1 with ip address 192.168.2.1 with gatewaty 192.168.2.254 and nic2 with ip address 10.96.6.253 with no gateway. The windows 2008 server is connected to a router which is connnected to another router so if I want to connect to the windows 2008 server I use 192.168.0.31 because it is forwarded. If I use remote desktop to connect to that machine I use 192.168.0.31 and that works well, but the server has a seccond nic and I want to be able to connect with a remotedesktop to nic2.     I was hoping to get some further information on any possible Do's and Don't when it comes to installing, using and maintaining iTunes within a Termina Server environment. We have come across a situation in our company whereby some of our users who are using thin clients now need the ability to sync, update and manage their devices, previously they used either standard desktop systems or laptops so there was no issue with running iTunes. I have not found much information on the web about using iTunes within a Terminal Server Farm, Id like to find out if iTunes works within the environment, any known or common issues that occur due to running it like this.

    We recently upgraded our production boxes to Windows 2008 from Windows 2003 servers. Everything works fine except the event logging. We log at max 32000 bytes of data for each message On 2008 servers, event logging fails if number of characters is greater than 31885. Is this new limit on Windows 2008 R2 servers? Any help appreciated. On Win 2003 servers, I am able to log 32000 bytes of data for each log entry.

  • Problem with MS DTC on SQL2008 win server 2k8 with linked server from sql2000 win server 2k

    Hi, We have migrated our db from sql2000 win server 2k to sql2008 win server 2k8. We have linked server from sql2000 win server 2k. By our opinion the problem is with DTC and we have made a lot of setting that we found as solution for our problem, but still the problem exist. There is no any error or worning or information niether in the sql log nor in win event viewer. The application is hanging out and at the end the time out exception is shown. What we have done till now: Enable Network DTC Access with inbound and outbound with No Authentication Required on win 2k8 We have opened RPC dynamic port allocation through registry on 2k and 2k8 We have entered subkey TurnOffRpcSecurity in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC and made it enable on 2k and 2k8 We have added exception for DTC in firewall for all entities What we have notice that when we restart SQL service and make the first try for our transaction the following is shown: "Attempting to initialize Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC). This is an informational message only. No user action is required." and after it: "Recovery of any in-doubt distributed transactions involving Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has completed.   • Windows Server task manager displays much higher memory use than sum of all processes' working set s

    I have a 16 GB Windows Server 2008 x64 machine mostly running SQL Server 2008. The free memory as seen in Task Manager is very low (128 MB at the moment), i.e. about 15.7 GB are used. So far, so good. Now when I try to narrow down the process(es) using the most memory I get confused: None of the processes have more than 200MB Working Set Size as displayed in the 'Processes' tab of Task Manager. Well, maybe the Working Set Size isn't the relevant counter? To figure that out I used a PowerShell command [1] to sum up each individual property of the process object in sort of a brute force approach - surely one of them must add up to the 15.7 GB, right? Turns out none of them does, with the closest being VirtualMemorySize (around 12.7 GB) and PeakVirtualMemorySize (around 14.7 GB). WTF? To put it another way: Which of the numerous memory related process information is the "correct" one, i.e. counts towards the server's physical memory as displayed in the Task Manager's 'Performance' tab?   • Terminal Server 2008: Remote App Issue

    I have a FoxPro 2.6 (16-bit) application that I've installed on a Win2008 (32-bit) Terminal Server. I then created a Remote App from it. It works fine. The problem is that within this FoxPro application it calls out to a .Net application. I have the proper .Net Framework installed on the server (2.0) and I have run the code access security policy tool (caspol.exe). However, when I launch the .Net app from within the FoxPro application I get the following error: Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: vector.exe Problem Signature 02: 1.0.0.3 Problem Signature 03: 48b579f2 Problem Signature 04: vector Problem Signature 05: 1.0.0.3 Problem Signature 06: 48b579f2 Problem Signature 07: f Problem Signature 08: 57 Problem Signature 09: System.Security.Security OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.18.10 Locale ID: 1033 Vector.exe is our .Net application. In fact, it's an in-between application that checks to ensure you have the latest version. When it's done it calls out to another .Net executable. Does anyone believe this should be a problem?   • What is the suggested approach to Syncing/Backing up/Restoring from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 20

    I only have SQL Server 2008 (Dev Edition) on my development machine I only have SQL Server 2005 available with my hosting company (and I don't have direct connection access to this database) I'm just wondering what the best approach is for: Getting the initlal DB Structure & Data into production. And keeping any structural changes/data changes in sync in future. As far as I can see... Replication - not an option cos I can't connect to the production DB. Restoring a backup - not an option because as far as I can see, you cannot export a DB from 2008 that is restorable in 2005 (even with the 2008 DB set in 2005 compatibility mode) and it wouldn't make sense to be restoring production over the top of my dev version anyway. Dump all the scripts from my 2008 Database, Revert my Dev to machine from 2008 - 2005, and recreate the database from the scripts, then just use backup & restore to get the initial DB into production, then run scripts through the web panel from that point onwards Dump all the scripts from my 2008 Database and generate the entire 2005 db from scripts in production. then run scripts through the web panel from that point onwards With the last 2 options, I'd probably need to script all the data inserts as well using some tool (which I presume exists on the web) Are there any other possibile solutions that I'm not considering.

    We've a lot of Volume Licences left, but the License Server apparantly doesn't use them. Instead it issues Temporary Per Device CAL's. Which is a bit odd off course...   • Server 2008 Likes to restart itself

    I have a weird issue here. I notice about once a week the web server restarts itself. This would be only a minor issue if we were not planning on implementing an IP failover. I have checked the event logs. I don't see anything that indicates a reason for the restart. I need some help diagnosing the reason the server restarts. It happened last night at 5:00AM Last even in the log was 1 hour before the unexpected shutdown. Here is the Log for the shutdown event. Any help is much appreciated.   • SSRS 2008 - How to hide the plus icon in a group visibility toggle cell

    I have a report that shows or hides columns in a group based on a header cell. SSRS makes this pretty easy and is kind enough to place a little plus/minus icon in the toggling cell. I want to HIDE this plus/minus icon when there is only one column of data in the subgroup, because it shows that one column by default so expanding the group doesn't do anything. This really only applies to one specific group, because all the others always have more than one column of data, so a way to hide only the icon for a specific group would be fine. JavaScript won't work (I don't think) because the client ID of the plus/minus image is generated by the report and changes with each generation. see this image for more clarity: http://imgur.com/vqaQA.png
