  • SSH works in putty but not terminal

    When I try to ssh this in a terminal: ssh [email protected] I get the following error: Connection closed by 69.163.227.82 When I use putty, I am able to connect to the server.   • Relation between server_name in nginx sites-available, /etc/hosts file and A-records

    I have the following two server-blocks in my config-file in sites-available: server { listen 80; server_name www.mydomain.be; root /usr/share/nginx/html; index index.html index.htm; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ =404; } } server { listen 80; server_name sub.mydomain.be; root /usr/share/nginx/sub; index index.html index.htm; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ =404; } } I also created an A-record for both www.domain.be and sub.domain.be with the IP of my server as value. Yet, when I try to reload my nginx configuration with service nginx reload it fails. When I remove the second server-block, it reloads as expected. I know this topic is popular, and that there are loads of such [nginx][subdomain] questions here, but none of them seems to discuss explicitly how the following three things hang together: virtual hosts or server blocks in nginx (est. server_name matching) the effect of A-records on how nginx processes requests the need to add hosts to /etc/hosts Right now I have the impression that a lack of knowledge of this bigger picture, rather than specific knowledge of nginx configuration prevents me from making this work.

  • Varnish does not start properly (crashes after startup) with no error messages

    I am running Varnish (2.0.4 from the Ubuntu unstable apt repository, though I have also used the standard repository) in a test environment (Virtual Machines) on Ubuntu 9.10, soon to be 10.04. When I have a working configuration and the server starts successfully it seems like everything is fine, however if, for whatever reason, I stop and then restart the varnish daemon it doesn't always startup properly, and there are no errors going into syslog or messages to indicate what might be wrong. If I run varnish in debug mode (-d) and issue start when prompted then 7 times out of time it will run, but occasionally it will just shut down 'silently'.   • Postfix + Exchange + ActiveDirectory; How to mix them

    My client has got many sub-offices, and one head office. The headoffice has a domain name: business.com All users in the many sub-offices need to have a headoffice email address: [email protected] Anyone not in the head office will need the email forwarded to an external email address. All users in the head office will have their email delivered to Microsoft Exchange. Users are listed in Active Directory under two different OU's: HeadOffice or SubOffice. Is this something able to be configured? I've done some googling, but I can't find any examples or businesses set up this way. Edit: Postfix will accept all email, will need to determine to forward the email to an external account or alternatively have it delivered to MS Exchange. I've done some reading about MS Exchange and that you can 'mail-enable' contacts for forwarding - but I don't know if each AD account requires an Exchange CAL? The end goal is to forward email to external accounts to sub offices or accept email for head office. At backend there is lighttpd hosting only static files, and there is an md5 in the url in case of file change, ex. /gfx/Bird.b6e0bc2d6cbb7dfe1a52bc45dd2b05c4.swf). How can I avoid that? Should I carry on other headers like User-Agent or Accept-Encoding? I thing that default hashing mechanism is using url + host/IP. Compression is used at the backend. What else can improve performance?

  • DNS resolve .com domain on local domain

    I'm building a local 2008 R2 domain as a test case to be able to write a roadmap for the real new domain that needs to be created soon. What I would like to know if I'm able to make a record in DNS that will point the domain name: www.example.com and example.com to one of the servers in my network. I tried creating an a-record for it but that doesn't work. To be honest I'm not even sure if this is possible? So can I do this? That way I would be able to fully test all our services (and webb app) offline before I build the real domain and switch the DNS records at the provider. Some advice if possible and where to start is appreciated. The solution (Thanks Brent): Create new Forward lookup zone pointing to example.com Create empty A record pointing to IP of the webserver you are targeting If www is needed create A record with Name: www and IP of your webserver sub domains repeat the process but then with names for example: sub or www.sub (and ip your webserver) Be aware of the DNS Cache while you are in this process. Things can take time or do the following: Right click the server and choose clear cache in CMD: ipconfig /flushdns (to flush the client cache)

  • Why is cron mailing me program output even though I've redirected to /dev/null?

I thought redirecting STDOUT and SDTERR to /dev/null would "silence" the output but alas, this has not work.   • Telerik MVC: Telerik Menu Drops down Under Telerik Grid

    I have just added a Telerik menu to my MVC application. I also have many views that render Telerik grids on them. Problem: My menu has one item with sub items. When I hover over that menu item, the dropdown slides beneath the Telerik Grid, which hides most of the sub items and makes it impossible to click them. Any idea how to make the menu dropdown slide over the grid instead of under it?

My problem is that bindings are not working inside the DataGrid, and I have no clue of why this isn't working.   • Different Azure blob streams when using .Net client vs. REST interface

    I have encountered an unusual difference in the way that the .Net client for Azure and the direct REST API bring back streams of binary data. If I use the CloundBlob.DownloadToStream() vs. getting the response stream from the HTTP response, I get streams with the same length, but different content. Specifically the REST response seems to 0 out a series of bytes. I've discovered this issue because I'm trying to use the byte range feature for blobs which is currently not supported in the .Net client (if I'm wrong on this point and someone can point at where I can do this it might make the rest of this question irrelevant).
