  • PHP include(): File size & performance

    An inexperienced PHP question: I've got a PHP script file that I need to include on different pages lots of times in lots of places. I have the option of either breaking the included file down into several smaller files and include these on a as-needed basis... OR ... I could just keep it all together in a single PHP file. I'm wondering if there's any performance impact of using a larger vs. smaller file for include() in this context? For example, is there any performance difference between a 200KB file and a 20KB file? Thank you.

  • Getting HTMLUnknownElement with jQuery.find() and an XML Document

    I'm attempting to load up an XML document (specifically an RSS feed) via an Ajax request, parse it, and insert some information based on said feed into my page. The code works fine in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari, but not IE7. Go figure. After doing some initial debugging, I've found that the XML string is being retrieved via the request, and the specific node type I'm getting when trying to parse nodes out of the document is HTMLUnknownElement. Here's the relevant code: $.get('feed.php', function(oXmlDoc) { var titles = $(oXmlDoc).find('title'); var dates = $(oXmlDoc).find('pubDate'); for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) { parseNodes(titles[i].firstChild.nodeValue, dates[i].firstChild.nodeValue)); } }); The parseNodes function is never actually being hit because IE cannot access firstChild and, consequently, nodeValue. Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or suggestions on how to address this.

  • Writing a batch script to perform differently on different days?

    I am in the process of setting up a batch script to do a specified action if the script was run on a weekday, and an alternate action if run on the weekend. I am almost completely unfamiliar with writing batch scripts, but I know how to write my entire script except the logic I describe above.     I have this select: <select name="main"> <option value="2">2s</option> <option value="3">3s</option> <option value="5">5s</option> </select> How do I make, that after choosing 2s, 2 selects would be created: <select name="select1"> <option value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> </select> <select name="select2"> <option value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> </select> After choosing 3s, it would create 3 selects and so on.   • Why does my perl script return a zero return code when I explicitly call exit with a non-zero parame

    I have a perl script which calls another script. The perl script should be propagating the script's return code but seems to be returning zero to its caller (a Java application) desipte the explicit call to exit $scriptReturnCode. It's probably something dumb since I'm by no means a perl expert. Code and output as follows (I realise that <=> could/should be != but that's what I have): print "INFO: Calling ${scriptDirectory}/${script} ${args}" $scriptReturnCode = system("${scriptDirectory}/${script} ${args}"); if ( $scriptReturnCode <=> 0 ) { print "ERROR: The script returned $scriptReturnCode\n"; exit $scriptReturnCode; } else { print "INFO: The script returned $scriptReturnCode.\n"; exit 0; } The output I have from my Java is: 20/04/2010 14:40:01 - INFO: Calling /path/to/script/script.ksh arg1 arg2 20/04/2010 14:40:01 - Could not find installer files <= this is from the script.ksh 20/04/2010 14:40:01 - ERROR: The script returned 256 20/04/2010 14:40:01 - Command Finished.   • Static member variable containing object instances

    I have the following: function Preferences() { } Preferences.players = { 'player1': new Player() } players is a static member variable of Preferences and I'm trying to make it an object containing an instance of a Player. However, it doesn't appear to let me do this. It seems like it will allow me to define players if I make it a non-static member variable however. Like so: function Preferences() { var players = { 'player1' : new Player() } } Is it possible to create a static member variable containing instances of an object in JS?

  • How do I change the name of an application tab?

    I'm working on a facebook page for a client and with the new profiles pages starting to roll out I've come across an issue with the name of the app I created. The original profiles which most of you will see here - http://www.facebook.com/DrMartyBecker says "Welcome" as the tab name. On the new profile pages the tab says 'drMARTY', I can't find the place where I can modify the name. So i was wondering if there was a way to change this and where. Thanks for the help!

  • Ordering z-indexes in an array

    I have an array which looks something along the lines of resourceData[0][0] = "pic1.jpg"; resourceData[0][1] = 5; resourceData[1][0] = "pic2.jpg"; resourceData[1][1] = 2; resourceData[2][0] = "pic3.jpg"; resourceData[2][1] = 900; resourceData[3][0] = "pic4.jpg"; resourceData[3][1] = 1; The numeric represents the z-index of the image. Minimum z-index value is 1. Maximum (not really important) is 2000. I have all the rendering and setting z-indexes done fine. My question is, I want to have four functions: // Brings image to z front function bringToFront(resourceIndex) { // Set z-index to max + 1 resourceData[resourceIndex][1] = getBiggestZindex() + 1; // Change CSS property of image to bring to front $('#imgD' + resourceIndex).css("z-index", resourceData[resourceIndex][1]); } function bringUpOne(resourceIndex) { } function bringDownOne(resourceIndex) { } // Send to back z function sendToBack(resourceIndex) { } So given then index [3] (900 z): If we send it to the back, it will take the value 1, and [3] will have to go to 2, but that conflicts with [1] who has a 2 z-index so they need to go to three etc. Is there an easy programatical way of doing this because as soon as I start doing this it's going to get messy. It's important that the indexes of the array don't change. We can't sort the array unfortunately due to design.     Hi there, Are there any build in UI capabilities when using Windows Workflow.. Lets say I have a workflow that takes an hour to run where different activities are happening all the time. While it's running I want to see what activity is currently active, what activities have already ran etc..     Switching aged 2003 SRV to 2008 caused my Asp.net 2 application fail: The application is no more loading the required library DLL from /bin/ folder anymore. What should I change in my code or web.config to make this webapp load OK also in new 2008 server? Now I receive this error when I access the application: This type is in IMPORTS ( Dll ). Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'Facebook.Entity.User' is not defined.

    Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

    Say I somehow got an object reference from an other class: Object myObj = anObject; Now I can get the class of this object: Class objClass = myObj.getClass(); Now, I can get all constructors of this class: Constructor[] constructors = objClass.getConstructors(); Now, I can loop every constructor: if (constructors.length > 0) { for (int i = 0; i < constructors.length; i++) { System.out.println(constructors[i]); } } This is already giving me a good summary of the constructor, for example a constructor public Test(String paramName) is shown as public Test(java.lang.String) Instead of giving me the class type however, I want to get the name of the parameter.. in this case "paramName". How would I do that?     Hi, im just writing my own replace method for any weird characters and i used the ASCI value 0, null to replace unwanted characters, i was hoping for them to be 'deleted', but this doesnt work. A gap just appears in the string. What exactly does String.Replace() do when removing a character for ""? Does it shift them all down and then 'delete' the final character or something?
