    There is a question in my programming languages textbook that is as follows: Write a C function that includes the following sequence of statements: x = 21; int x; x = 42; Run the program and explain the results. Rewrite the same code in C++ and Java and compare the results. I have written code, and played with it in all three languages but I can not even get it to compile. This includes declaring x above the three lines as well as in the calling function (as this question is obviously attempting to illustrate scoping issues) I'd like to explain the results and do the comparisons on my own, as it is an assignment question but I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how to get this code to compile?     I'm trying to write a Cocoa app that makes it easier for Android developers on Macs to create Android apps. When a user presses a button on the app, I want it to add a certain directory to the environmental $PATH variable on the Mac. Is there another way to do this via Cocoa instead of opening up the .bash_profile file and adding the path manually? Thanks for any help in advance.

    I would like to have a FORTRAN write statement formatted to depend on some variable. For example, I could write: write(*,'(3f15.3,3f9.2)') x,y,z,(var(i),i=1,nvari) where nvari = 3 But, what if, in some cases, I actually have 4 variables (i.e. nvari = 4) I would like to write something like this: write(*,'(3f15.3,nvari(f9.2))') x,y,z,(var(i),i=1,nvari) Now, nvari can be anything and the output will work as I like. How can I make something like this work?

    I have a file that looks something like this: ABC DEF GHI I have a shell variable that looks something like this: var="MRD" What I want to do, is to make my file look like this: ABC MRD DEF GHI I was trying to do this: sed -i -e 's/ABC/&$var/g' text.txt but it only inserts $var instead of the value. I also tried this: sed -i -e 's/ABC/&"$var"/g' text.txt but that didn't work either. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    I have a project with a few files that all include the header global.hpp. Those files want to share and update information that is relevant for the whole program during runtime (that data is gathered progressively during the program runs but the fields of data are known at compile-time). Now my idea was to use a struct like this: global.hpp #include <string> #ifndef _GLOBAL_SESSION_STRUCT #define _GLOBAL_SESSION_STRUCT struct session_struct { std::string username; std::string password; std::string hostname; unsigned short port; // more data fields as needed }; #endif extern struct session_struct session; main.cpp #include "global.hpp" struct session_struct session; int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { session.username = "user"; session.password = "secret"; session.hostname = "example.com"; session.port = 80; // other stuff, etc return 0; } Now every file that includes global.hpp can just read & write the fields of the session struct and easily share information. Is this the correct way to do this? NOTE: For this specific project no threading is used. But please (for future projects and other people reading) clarify in your answer how this (or your proposed) solution works when threaded. Also, for this example/project session variables are shared. But this should also apply to any other form of shared variables.

  • How to use named_scope to incrementally construct a complex query?

    I want to use Rails named_scope to incrementally build complex queries that are returned from external methods. I believe I can get the behavior I want with anonymous scopes like so: def filter_turkeys Farm.scoped(:conditions => {:animal => 'turkey'}) end def filter_tasty Farm.scoped(:conditions => {:tasty => true}) end turkeys = filter_turkeys is_tasty = filter_tasty tasty_turkeys = filter_turkeys.filter_tasty But say that I already have a named_scope that does what these anonymous scopes do, can I just use that, rather than having to declare anonymous scopes? Obviously one solution would be to pass my growing query to each of the filter methods, a la def filter_turkey(existing_query) existing_query.turkey # turkey is a named_scoped that filters for turkey end But that feels like an un-DRY way to solve the problem. Oh, and if you're wondering why I would want to return named_scope pieces from methods, rather than just build all the named scopes I need and concatenate them together, it's because my queries are too complex to be nicely handled with named_scopes themselves, and the queries get used in multiple places, so I don't want to manually build the same big hairy concatenation multiple times.

    Hello I am using Dreamweaver CS5 with Coldfusion 9 to build a dynamic website. I have a MS Access Database that stores login information which includes ID, FullName, FirstName, LastName, Username, Pawword, AcessLevels. My question is this: I currently have session variable to track the Username when it is entered into the login page. However I would like to use that Username to pull the User's FullName to display throughout the web pages and use for querying data. How do I change the session variable to read that when they are not entering their FullName on the login page but only Username and password. I have listed my login information code below if there is any additional information needed please let me know. This is the path for which the FullName values reside DataSource "Access" Table "Logininfo" Field "FullName" I want the FullName to be unique based on the Username submitted from the Login page.   • Accessing jQuery objects in the module pattern

    Hello, Really getting in to javascript and looking around at some patterns. One I have come accross is the module pattern. Its seems like a nice way to think of chucks of functionality so I went ahead and tried to implement it with jQuery. I ran in to a snag though. These both use jQuery methods. The problem is that the .html() method works fine however i can not add the class. No errors result and the class does not get added. What is happening here? Why is the class not getting added to the div?

  • Android Add Icon to homescreen to set member variable in broadcast receiver

    I would like to add some sort of icon that a user can press in order to flip a variable in a broadcast receiver my app uses. Basically I just can a icon that they can press which will flip the value of a boolean in the broadcast receiver, and change the icon to indicate something happened. I think I need to do something with a widget? Could anyone point me in the direction of some tutorial I could check out?
