  • A fast way to get Reporting Services local site working?

    Hello I was here trying to figure out why my Reports manager is empty, there's no tabs at all. I installed SQL Server 2008 complete, but didn't not configure Reporting Services. When installing SQL Server 2008, this Windows 7 version didn't have yet IIS installed, I installed it later. I don't see where is this localhost/Reports physically on my Hard Drive, where is the physic folder? I don't see on IIS where is Report folder, would it exist? The site settings people talk about, I can't find it. The "Reporting Services" service is running on automatic at SQL Server Configuration Manager. How can I get Reporting Services this working without struggling? (I can't see why is necessary to customize all these user permissions)

  • How to enable an AdventureWorks database in a web application?

    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. I want the users to be able to select an Adventureworks table and then an input file. The user is then able to map columns from the file with the selected table. This app works fine now in VS. But when I Browse in IIS, it doesn't show any of the tables. I think this is because currently Adventureworks connection string is integrated security (Windows authentication). If I want users to be able to select a table, do I have to change connection to SQL Server authentication? And if so, is the only way to do this to reinstall SQL Server? Or can I just reinstall Adventureworks? And if I reinstall SQL Server, do I need to reinstall VS also for this to work? This could be painful...

    I recently migrated a database from sql server 2005 to 2008 on windows server 2008. Clients connect fine from their XP machines and so does the SQL Management Studio 2008. I have also tested a remote connection using LINQPad which worked fine. However on my VB6 app, the connection string seems to give me problems. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?   • visual studio 2008 vs 2010 Pro unmanaged code

    Hi, I'm a C++ programmer, I use Visual Studio 2008 Professional, only unmanaged code. I'm thinking of buying VS 2010 Pro. I'm confused, I don't know what are differences between those two. I know that, in plus, it has tr1 included. When I started using 2008 edition I was very pleased to see f.e. unit testing support but all new features are only for managed code. The C++ debugger in 2008 is very good, better than 2003 edition one. I would't like to buy a new tool and discover that I gained nothing and lost some functionality ( because f.e. something was moved to higher version). Once upon a time I switched from very good VS6 to VS 2003.Net and imagine what, after some time I discovered that Pro has no support for code optimalization. It is wonderful how Microsoft makes money. I wouldn't like to experience something like that again. What do you think, what can you recommended?

  • Programmatically modifying a file on Windows Server 2008 (Web Ed.)

    I have written a .NET 2008 application, incorporating Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, that modifies an existing Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It works perfectly on my WinXP development computer. When I upload the app to a Microsoft Web Server 2008, it opens the file and reads from the file, but when the app tries to save the file, it throws this exception: "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A03EC): 'july2009.xlsx' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name in the Save As dialog box." The file is NOT read-only, nor is it opened by any other user or app. The app and the Excel file both reside on the D: (data-only) drive. My first instinct was to look at file permissions. When nothing else worked, I literally created a temporary Group, added EVERY user and security entity to it and granted the group full control of the entire D: drive. No luck. Then I tried manually elevating the permission by running my app as administrator. No luck. Finally, I copied the file to my XP development computer and ran the app there. Of course it worked perfectly. Can anyone please tell me how to give my program permission to edit a file on Server 2008? Thanks!

    There's Active directory on windows 2000 advance server, I have a web server on Windows 2008 server Enterprise Edition, the following code works fine in Winsows 2003 server but when I installed Win 2008 server, it gives me the following error, the webserver is not subdomain of the AD server. but they have the same range IP address. A local error has occurred.\r\n"} System.Exception system.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException} I want to Authenticate Via AD from my webserver, I even test the port 389 and it was open(by telnet), I even added port 389 UDP and TCP to firewall of webserver to be sure it is open, even I turned the firewall off but nothing changed. I don't know what's wrong with Windows 2008 server that cannot run my code, I search Internet but I found nothing. any solution would be helpful.   • Using Visual Studio 2008 to Assemble, Link, Debug, and Execute MASM 6.11 Assembly Code

    I would like to use Visual Studio 2008 to the greatest extent possible while effectively compiling/linking/building/etc code as if all these build processes were being done by the tools provided with MASM 6.11. The exact version of MASM does not matter, so long as it's within the 6.x range, as that is what my college is using to teach 16-bit assembly. I have done some research on the subject and have come to the conclusion that there are several options: Reconfigure VS to call the MASM 6.11 executables with the same flags, etc as MASM 6.11 would natively do. Create intermediary batch file(s) to be called by VS to then invoke the proper commands for MASM's linker, etc. Reconfigure VS's built-in build tools/rules (assembler, linker, etc) to provide an environment identical to the one used by MASM 6.11. Option (2) was brought up when I realized that the options available in VS's "External Tools" interface may be insufficient to correctly invoke MASM's build tools, thus a batch file to interpret VS's strict method of passing arguments might be helpful, as a lot of my learning about how to get this working involved my manually calling ML.exe, LINK.exe, etc from the command prompt. Below are several links that may prove useful in answering my question. Please keep in mind that I have read them all and none are the actual solution. I can only hope my specifying MASM 6.11 doesn't prevent anyone from contributing a perhaps more generalized answer.   • Visual Studio 2008 - Focus on textbox doesn't work when run from VS2008 as admin

    This is a minor, esoteric problem and not a showstopper, but I'm wondering what other VS2008 idiosyncrasies are out there. If you make a web app, add a textbox and run a focus function for the textbox on page load, it works when you run VS not as administrator from a Vista non-administrator account or if you run the page from a browser instance run on its own, not from VS. If you browse the page from VS as Admin, the focus doesn't work. This for Cassini and from the local IIS. Stuff like this just makes me trust VS a tad less.

    I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server 2008 website. Although this same code compiles in the Project version, the website version does not compile. Many of their files are the same so I do not understand even where to look. The only compile error I get is: Could not load type 'DataMatch' in my DataMatch.aspx file. Is the problem in my web.config file? How do websites differ from projects in VS? All four of these files reside in same directory.   • How to configure an index.htm file in IIS?

    I am running IIS 6.0 on an XP OS using VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 (Full install). I developed two web apps. Both of these I can run from IIS by setting them to the default website. However, now I tried adding an index.htm file. Real simple; all it has is two hyperlinks to these web apps. But now only the first web app works. The first web app is pure VS. The second web app modifies an Adventureworks database table. But now when I click the hyperlink for the second web app, it gives me the error below. However this error doesn't make sense to me cause I have the two web apps configured as two virtual directories beneath C:\inetpub\ and the index.htm file is also beneath C:\inetpub. And the default website is set to home directory C:\inetpub\ with Document index.htm on top. Also, why does the first web app work and not the second now? Server Error in '/AddFileToSQL' Application.     Does anybody know, if it is possible to use the "old" SAP DCOM Connector on a Windows Server 2008 ? I want to migrate a old ASP Web Solution with DCOM Connection to SAP from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2008 Server. When I try to install the DCOM Connector I get the Error Message: "Setup could not find ActivX(R) Data Objects verion 2.5 or higher on your computer...." That is strange, because ado is there under C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado ! Thanks in advance for your help !

    I'm reading a book that recommends clicking a check box that says "Place code in separate file" when adding a new Web Form to an existing ASP.NET project. The book is using Visual Studio 2005 and there is a check box for "Place code in separate file" when you open the "Add New Item" dialog. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I do not see the "Place code in separate file" checkbox when I try to add a new item. Is there something I need to do to enable this? Was this functionality no longer possible/important in VS 2008?

    Hello, first time here... great site Well, I want to reference a web service, and it requires user/pass authentication. In VS 2008, if I try to "add reference", or "add service reference", all I can type is the URL, there's no way to input my credentials. Obviously, if I try to load the ws, it shows me a nice message: "The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="weblogic"'. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." So my question is: Is it possible (using VS 2008) to add a reference to a web service that is protected? How? Any help is kindly appreciated. Thanks!

    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 new clean install , not a VM, that I have added to a Windows Server 2003 based domain using my account which has domain admin rights. The domain functional level is 2003. I performed a clean install of SQL Server 2008 R2 using my account which has domain admin rights. The installation completed without any errors. I logged into SSMS locally and attempted to add another domain account by clicking Search, Advanced and finding the user in the domain. When I return to the "Dialog - New" window and click OK I receive the following error: Create failed for Login 'Domain\User'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) Windows NT user or group 'Domain\User' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have verified that the firewall is off, tried adding a different domain user, tried using SA to add a user, installed the hotfix for KB 976494 and verified that the Local Security Policy for Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel Domain Member: Digitally encrypt secure channel Domain Member: Digitally sign secure channel are disabled none of which have made a difference. I can RDP to a Server 2003 server running SQL 2008 and add the same domain user without issue. Also if I try to connect with SSMS to the sql server from another system on the domain using my account I get the following error: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452) and on the database server I see the following in the security event log: An account failed to log on. Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: myUserName Account Domain: MYDOMAIN Failure Information: Failure Reason: An Error occured during Logon.
