  • Word 2003: Bullet style renamed; is there some way to reverse this?

    I have a machine that seems to have had its bullet style permanently changed - I previously was creating a document which had a question/answer format, where the answers were bullet points, so I created a style for them. The problem is, it seems to have stuck. If you click the "Bullet" button, the paragraph is formatted in the style. I've tried deleting the style in Normal.dot, and even deleting the Normal.dot file in the entirely - neither seems to fix the problem. Anyone have any other bright ideas on how to fix it?

  • How to index tables and pictures in Word so you can get a list of them automatically ?

    I'm writing one of those things where you have to provide a list of all the tables and pictures at the beginning of the text. I know how to insert caption for a picture, but I'm not sure as to how can I do that for a table or some miscellaus object, in a way that I can get a list of them all afterwards ? Can anyone give a hint or two ? Usually I do these things manually, but this document is getting big.

  • How do you create a report in Word (or other documentation software) that is linked directly with Ex

    I believe my question may be best answered by using Access since that's more what it's made for. However, I don't have a license for Access here at work and trying to get one is pulling teeth. So I'm curious if there is any way to compile reports with data in an Excel 2007 sheet. The output can be .doc, .docx, .pdf - or anything else if there's a decent piece of free 3rd party software. This might be easiest solved by just creating another sheet in the same workbook and directly linking to the data I want to display in a report-esque format. But I wanted to see if SU could offer some more creative solutions.

  • Wiimote accelerometer input on Windows? (in 2013 - Glovepie alternative?)

    There were a few options for getting accelerometer input into Windows using a Nintendo Wiimote. As of mid 2013, these projects seem to be dead, corrupted with malware, or both. Are there any tools out there that can do this that are still available (and not full of malware)? Quick roundup of the options that used to exist, or that still exist but aren't suitable: Glovepie, which used to be the most recommended option, appears to be dead: it's own website hacked, its creator's googlepages page full of strange stuff that sounds like hacker-humour about the end of the world... (I'd rather not link to them, very dubious stuff...), and lots of forum threads asking if it's a dead project with comments along the lines of "I heard that the author intends to return to it" dated 2011... Wiiuse seems to be dead: its sourceforge page simply says "Error.", its own website has turned into a squatter page. There apparently was an extension for Autohotkey that allowed Wiimote input, but I've seen warnings that this too is now full of malware (see final commentin above link) Everything else I can find about using Wiimotes as input on Windows - for example, Johnny Lee Cheng's work - seems to be exclusively about using infrared or sensor bar, or tied to a specific purpose (e.g. FPS gaming). My main interest is in the accelerometer, and buttons if possible (although something that supports the IR stuff too would be ideal). Is there anything that works for getting Wiimote accelerometer input into Windows that is reliable and not a malware-fest? If anyone's interested in "Why?", it's to use the Wiimote as an audio / midi controller: to use movement, pitch, roll etc to modulate lots of different sound variables at once with one hand. Wiimotes are great for this, and Glovepie used to be the standard way to make this work (e.g. see for example this tutorial, and this one, ignore the unrelated video; I've also seen musicians using wiimote/glovepie setups at gigs, creating some really unique sounds). As of 2013, however, Glovepie seems to be a dead and thoroughly hacked project, sadly. Is there anything else? With or without MotionPlus is fine (with would be better).   • Problems in "Save as PDF" plugin with Arabic numbers

    I use the "Save as PDF" plugin with Word 2007 to generate a PDF document from a DOCX document. It works great except that the Arabic numbers in the Word file have been converted to English numbers in the PDF document. Kindly find two links containing two screen shots explaining the problem. The first image is the generated PDF file with the English numbers highlighted. The second image is the original word file with the Arabic numbers highlighted. Update: Thanks very much Isaac, ChrisF and Wil. I changed the Numeral at word to Context and confirmed that all the numbers are Arabic at the Word file. I still have the problem as the PDF file still have English numbers. (Note: The Arabic numbers called Hindi numbers). I also tried changing the font to Tahoma with no hope.

  • Duplicate GET request from multiple IPs - can anyone explain this?

    We've seen a pattern in our webserver access logs which we're having problem explaining. A GET request appears in the access log which is a legitimate, but private, url as part of normal e-commerce website use (by private, we mean there is a unique key in a url form variable generated specifically for that customer session). Then a few seconds later we get hit with an identical request maybe 10-15 times within the space of a second. The duplicate requests are all from different IP addresses. The UserAgent for the duplicates are all the same (but different from the original request). The reverse DNS lookup on the IPs for all the duplicates requests resolve to the same large hosting company. Can anyone think of a scenario what would explain this?   • Preview hidden options on web sites

    I want to have hidden options on my web site and be previewed only when the user chooses. I want to animate them from left and right (about 15%). At the moment I have them visible in my html but with width set at 0 and animate it at 15%. In these containers are many options which should disappear to the left/right (with slide effect). But I am not so sure that having all of this in my HTML so I am thinking to create them with jQuery, with 0 width and animating it to it's should be width and setting the other elements to 0 width. Is this approach good, or should I create them and hide the overflow so I would animate position. Or is there a better approach ??

  • Configuring Novel iPrint client on ubuntu 13.10

    Recently I have struggled a lot to make Novel iPrint client to work on my laptop. I need it to use Follow Me printers in our university(you can take your print form any printer). Using this tutorial from Novel, I tried to convert the rpm package and install it on Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10. The post install script from installing generated deb package had a typo which I saw in post install messages and I fixed that. Now I have the client running. To see the client UI I installed cinnamon desktop(because unity does not have system tray and old solutions did'nt work to whitelist Novel clinet). I have iPrint plugin installed on firefox as well(I copied the shared object files to plugin directories). I try installing printers from provided ipp URL(which lists available printers on the server) with no success. After clicking the printer name I see this: I have various errors: Formerly firefox used to asked my network username/password for installing SSL printer but now it returns this: iPrint Printer - The printer is currently not available. However I can install non-SSL version but the printer location is either empty or points to: file:///dev/null even if I change it to the exact address which I see on working machines still it prints nothing. I have tried the novel command line tool, iprntcmd to print. It is being installed at: /opt/novell/iprint/bin/ msadeghi@werkstatt:/opt/novell/iprint/bin$ ./iprntcmd --addprinter ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me\ -\ IPP iprntcmd v05.04.00 Adding printer ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me - IPP. Added printer ipp://iprint.rz.hs-offenburg.de/ipp/Follow-me - IPP successfully. It adds the printer with empty location and again no print. What I found interesting is the log file at ~/.iprint/errors.txt with strange errors which I hope somebody here can understand. It worked for me on linux mint maya with my old laptop as well. Is there anybody out there who can help me to solve these problems? I am really disappointed with Novell and our university support. PS. I had the same problemwith 13.04. No matter if I am within the network or I connect with VPN, I have the same issues.
