• Flash CS5 and dynamic textfields

  I have a "shell" that started life in Flash CS3 (Flash 9, AS3) that has been since used with CS4 and now CS5. It creates TextFields in ActionScript for display (reading the content of those fields from XML). The text fields are either Myriad Pro Regular or Myriad Pro Semibold, both are embedded in the SWF from the Library (any given text field will only use one of those fonts) and using Advanced anti-aliasing. Once a FLA goes into CS5 is still has the same problem when saved back into CS4. The problem is the spacing between letters are now quite random, and the width of each text field is too wide (by about 10%). Changing the letterSpacing property (to something negative) makes this more noticeable. I read on here about Font.registerFont(MyriadPro) but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. Does anyone know how to make CS5 behave like previous versions of Flash? I'm using Flash Professional on Snow Leopard (as part of CS5 Web Premium).

• How do you separate the template of a blog block in Drupal?

  Hi, In Drupal, I created a block using views. This block contains the latest blog entries. I've placed this on a specific page to display it as an archive. Now, as for the blog itself (for example when one of them is clicked), A blog template for it depends on node-blog.tpl.php. My problem is, when I style node-blog.tpl.php, the block I created for the archives (as it displays on the page) gets affected. For example if I add TEST on node-blog.tpl.php, I will also get that on the block for every entry. I think it's because it is associated to a blog entry? What I want is to have node-blog styled "alone" when blog entries are viewed individually and not get the other entries on the blocks on the archive page be affected. How should I do this?

• Why / When / How is this Android serviceBinder resetting to null?

  I've written a ListActivity for Android 2.1 which is used to display a list of event categories. As the user selects a category, the program calls a web service to retrieve a list of sub-events. For example, a top level event might be "soccer" and when the user selects this the web service would return various soccer associations (e.g. "english", "french", "german", etc.) and display them in a new list. The following code seems to work occasionally, however sometimes the call to the service (in EventsListTask) fails because the serviceBinder is null. • jQuery - How to remove a DOM element BEFORE complete page load

  Now this may seem like a silly question, but I need to know how to remove a DOM element BEFORE it is displayed to the user. In short, I am using a div that has a background image alerting the user to enable javascript before proceeding. If the user has javascript enabled I am using jQuery to remove the DOM element, in this case $(".check-js") which is the div housing the image. Using the conventional methods to unload DOM objects as follows does not work because it waits for the page load to complete, then removes the element, causing the image to flicker on and off each time the page loads: $(function(){ $(".check-js").css( {display:"none"} ) }) I simply want to remove the div if the user has js enabled, and he must never see this div. Any suggestions and I will be grateful, thanks.

• How do I set a matplotlib colorbar extents?

  I'd like to display a colorbar representing an image's raw values along side a matplotlib imshow subplot which displays that image, normalized. I've been able to draw the image and a colorbar successfully like this, but the colorbar min and max values represent the normalized (0,1) image instead of the raw (0,99) image. f = plt.figure() # create toy image im = np.ones((100,100)) for x in range(100): im[x] = x # create imshow subplot ax = f.add_subplot(111) result = ax.imshow(im / im.max()) # Create the colorbar axc, kw = matplotlib.colorbar.make_axes(ax) cb = matplotlib.colorbar.Colorbar(axc, result) # Set the colorbar result.colorbar = cb If someone has a better mastery of the colorbar API, I'd love to hear from you. • Facebook API friends_get is extremely slow

  I have a PHP application running in iFrame mode. I am rendering an <fb:multi-friend-selector condensed="true"> inside of <fb:serverfbml> tags. This is inside a PHP file that calls a function that gets a list of user IDs using $facebook->api_client->friends_get();. The multi-friend selector renders just fine, but, when I leave the friend_get() call uncommented, the page takes between 15-20 seconds to load (confirmed with Firebug)! The goal is to limit the number of users displayed in the selector by building a list of user ids not to display, for use in the friend selector's exclude_ids parameter. And since it's "exclude_ids" and not "include_ids", I can't think of a way of getting around this api call. It seems to me there must be something I can do to make the api call faster, because I've seen friend selectors that load much more quickly.

This function works well, if i test it in a litte program simply printing out the lines. now i created a webdynpro containing a table to display these customers. I also did the binding! AND it works, but only if an event fires the execute...function. What i need is kind of "execute initially", means that the function gets executed when the table initially loads. How can i do this? • How do I handle dojo datagrid cell updates so I can post them back automatically to the server?

  I am using dojo datagrid to display my data. When the end user edit the cell values it should be updated in the server using ajax calls(when the focus goes out of the cell). Else, I should have a Edit & update/cancel buttons for each row to handle the same feature. But I don know how to place edit & update buttons inside the grid and capture their events. By default dojo updates only local the store value(client side). how can I save the updated cell values into the server? do we need to write any override methods to do so?? I am new to dojo.   When creating a web application that some how displays the display of a unique identifier for a recurring entity (videos on YouTube, or book section on a site like mine), would it be better to use a uniform length identifier like a hash or the unique key of the item in the database (1, 2, 3, etc). Besides revealing a little, what I think is immaterial, information about the internals of your app, why would using a hash be better than just using the unique id? In short: Which is better to use as a publicly displayed unique identifier - a hash value, or a unique key from the database? Edit: I'm opening up this question again because Dmitriy brought up the good point of not tying down the naming to db specific property. Will this sort of tie down prevent me from optimizing/normalizing the database in the future? The platform uses php/python with ISAM /w MySQL.

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. • AS3 Font embedding problem in ComboBox on a loaded movie clip

  Hi all, I have three movie clips, say, LoaderMC, ChildMC1, and ChildMC2. ChildMC1 has TLFTextfields in it with embedded fonts. ChildMC2 has both TLFTextfields as well as combo boxes.(with embedded fonts) When I compile those movieclips separately, I can view the combo box texts without any problem. If I load the ChildMC1 and ChildMC2 into the LoaderMC, the texts doesn't appear at all on both TLFtextfields and Combo Boxes. I tried embedding the fonts in the LoaderMC, then, TLFTextfields was able to show the texts but still the ComboBoxes couldn't display the text. If I don't embed the fonts in the combo box, I can able to view the texts. What could be the problem? I read an article which says, "No one has completely understood the font embedding in flash AS3, we just have to do trial and error, to get it done" I don't know how far it is true, but in my case it seems, I should agree! Please help me...

• The Application Architecture Domain

  I have been spending a lot of time thinking about Application Architecture in the context of EA. More specifically, as an Enterprise Architect, what do I need to consider when looking at/defining/designing the Application Architecture Domain?There are several definitions of Application Architecture. TOGAF says “The objective here [in Application Architecture] is to define the major kinds of application system necessary to process the data and support the business”. FEA says the Application Architecture “Defines the applications needed to manage the data and support the business functions”.I agree with these definitions. They reflect what the Application Architecture domain does. However, they need to be decomposed to be practical.I find it useful to define a set of views into the Application Architecture domain. These views reflect what an EA needs to consider when working with/in the Applications Architecture domain. These viewpoints are, at a high level:Capability View: This view reflects how applications alignment with business capabilities. It is a super set of the following views when viewed in aggregate. By looking at the Application Architecture domain in terms of the business capabilities it supports, you get a good perspective on how those applications are directly supporting the business.Technology View: The technology view reflects the underlying technology that makes up the applications. Based on the number of rationalization activities I have seen (more specifically application rationalization), the phrase “complexity equals cost” drives the importance of the technology view, especially when attempting to reduce that complexity through standardization type activities. Some of the technology components to be considered are: Software: The application itself as well as the software the application relies on to function (web servers, application servers). Infrastructure: The underlying hardware and network components required by the application and supporting application software. Development: How the application is created and maintained. This encompasses development components that are part of the application itself (i.e. customizable functions), as well as bolt on development through web services, API’s, etc. The maintenance process itself also falls under this view. Integration: The interfaces that the application provides for integration as well as the integrations to other applications and data sources the application requires to function. Type: Reflects the kind of application (mash-up, 3 tiered, etc). (Note: functional type [CRM, HCM, etc.] are reflected under the capability view). Organization View: Organizations are comprised of people and those people use applications to do their jobs. Trying to define the application architecture domain without taking the organization that will use/fund/change it into consideration is like trying to design a car without thinking about who will drive it (i.e. you may end up building a formula 1 car for a family of 5 that is really looking for a minivan). This view reflects the people aspect of the application. It includes: Ownership: Who ‘owns’ the application? This will usually reflect primary funding and utilization but not always. Funding: Who funds both the acquisition/creation as well as the on-going maintenance (funding to create/change/operate)? Change: Who can/does request changes to the application and what process to the follow? Utilization: Who uses the application, how often do they use it, and how do they use it? Support: Which organization is responsible for the on-going support of the application? Information View: Whether or not you subscribe to the view that “information drives the enterprise”, it is a fact that information is critical. The management, creation, and organization of that information are primary functions of enterprise applications. This view reflects how the applications are tied to information (or at a higher level – how the Application Architecture domain relates to the Information Architecture domain). It includes: Access: The application is the mechanism by which end users access information. This could be through a primary application (i.e. CRM application), or through an information access type application (a BI application as an example). Creation: Applications create data in order to provide information to end-users. (I.e. an application creates an order to be used by an end-user as part of the fulfillment process). Consumption: Describes the data required by applications to function (i.e. a product id is required by a purchasing application to create an order. Application Service View: Organizations today are striving to be more agile. As an EA, I need to provide an architecture that supports this agility. One of the primary ways to achieve the required agility in the application architecture domain is through the use of ‘services’ (think SOA, web services, etc.). Whether it is through building applications from the ground up utilizing services, service enabling an existing application, or buying applications that are already ‘service enabled’, compartmentalizing application functions for re-use helps enable flexibility in the use of those applications in support of the required business agility. The applications service view consists of: Services: Here, I refer to the generic definition of a service “a set of related software functionalities that can be reused for different purposes, together with the policies that should control its usage”. Functions: The activities within an application that are not available / applicable for re-use. This view is helpful when identifying duplication functions between applications that are not service enabled. Delivery Model View: It is hard to talk about EA today without hearing the terms ‘cloud’ or shared services.  Organizations are looking at the ways their applications are delivered for several reasons, to reduce cost (both CAPEX and OPEX), to improve agility (time to market as an example), etc.  From an EA perspective, where/how an application is deployed has impacts on the overall enterprise architecture. From integration concerns to SLA requirements to security and compliance issues, the Enterprise Architect needs to factor in how applications are delivered when designing the Enterprise Architecture. This view reflects how applications are delivered to end-users. The delivery model view consists of different types of delivery mechanisms/deployment options for applications: Traditional: Reflects non-cloud type delivery options. The most prevalent consists of an application running on dedicated hardware (usually specific to an environment) for a single consumer. Private Cloud: The application runs on infrastructure provisioned for exclusive use by a single organization comprising multiple consumers. Public Cloud: The application runs on infrastructure provisioned for open use by the general public. Hybrid: The application is deployed on two or more distinct cloud infrastructures (private, community, or public) that remain unique entities, but are bound together by standardized or proprietary technology that enables data and application portability. While by no means comprehensive, I find that applying these views to the application domain gives a good understanding of what an EA needs to consider when effecting changes to the Application Architecture domain.Finally, the application architecture domain is one of several architecture domains that an EA must consider when developing an overall Enterprise Architecture. The Oracle Enterprise Architecture Framework defines four Primary domains: Business Architecture, Application Architecture, Information Architecture, and Technology Architecture. Each domain links to the others either directly or indirectly at some point. Oracle links them at a high level as follows:Business Capabilities and/or Business Processes (Business Architecture), links to the Applications that enable the capability/process (Applications Architecture – COTS, Custom), links to the Information Assets managed/maintained by the Applications (Information Architecture), links to the technology infrastructure upon which all this runs (Technology Architecture - integration, security, BI/DW, DB infrastructure, deployment model). There are however, times when the EA needs to narrow focus to a particular domain for some period of time. These views help me to do just that.

• updating dojo grid cell values in the server

  I am using dojo datagrid to display my data. When the end user edit the cell values it should be updated in the server using ajax calls(when the focus goes out of the cell). Else, I should have a Edit & update/cancel buttons for each row to handle the same feature. But I don know how to place edit & update buttons inside the grid and capture their events. By default dojo updates only local the store value(client side). how can I save the updated cell values into the server? do we need to write any override methods to do so?? I am new to dojo.   hi, I am new in android and had developed an app which get images from the website and display it. I got it working in emulator but not in real phones. In some device, it will crash or take very long loading period. Can anyone please help me or guide me in improving it as i'm not sure whether the way i loads the images is correct or not. • Which is the most memory leak safe approach.

  I have a table of frequently updated information. This is presented using a container div with a div for each row, each row containing 10 divs. I am using setInterval to call a an asmx webservice that returns some json formatted information. On the success callback I call $("#myContainer").empty(); on the container div and recreate the rows and 10 nested divs for each row's columns. This page may be left to run for a whole day, so I am wary of updating the DOM like this as I have noticed that memory does rise for the browser over time (IE8). The other approach I am considering is to add an idea to the row div. When new results process each item of data, look for the corresponding row, if it exists overwrite the data in each div. If it doesn't exist (new data for example), append the row. What approaches have others used for this sort of long lived pseudo realtime information display. TIA

• How do I render the scrollable regions of a canvas with IViewObject::Draw?

  Hi, I've been trying to render the entire canvas in an IWebBrowser2 control to a bitmap. IViewObject::Draw seems to be the most promising approach, but I can't get it to render anything that would requires a scroll to show. While I could automate the scrolling and stitch the images together, this would look weird with any fixed position elements. Is this even doable? Additionally, I've tried to set the controller's size to one that would allow the entire contents to display without needing to scroll, but Windows caps the max size to the current screen resolution, so that only gets me partially there. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm currently doing this in the context of Win7 and IE8, but I don't think that should matter much.
