• JAVA: ICEFACES: component <ice:selectInputDate> mapped on a "java.util.Calendar" field

  Does anybody knows how can component <ice:selectInputDate> be mapped on a java.util.Calendar field, not java.util.Date? I am using from IceFaces version 1.8.2, the component <ice:selectInputDate>. This component requires to be bound with a java.util.Date proeprty. For example, value="#{bean.myDate}", the myDate field must be of type java.util.Date. But I need my date field to be of type java.util.Calendar. • SQLiteQueryBuilder.buildQuery not using selectArgs?

  Alright, I'm trying to query a sqlite database. I was trying to be good and use the query method of SQLiteDatabase and pass in the values in the selectArgs parameter to ensure everything got properly escaped, but it wouldn't work. I never got any rows returned (no errors, either). I started getting curious about the SQL that this generated so I did some more poking around and found SQLiteQueryBuilder (and apparently Stack Overflow doesn't handle links with parentheses in them well, so I can't link to the anchor for the buildQuery method), which I assume uses the same logic to generate the SQL statement. I did this: SQLiteQueryBuilder builder = new SQLiteQueryBuilder(); builder.setTables(BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TABLE_NAME); String sql = builder.buildQuery(new String[] { BarcodeDb.Barcodes.ID, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TIMESTAMP, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TYPE, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.VALUE }, "? = '?'   Hi, I have some trouble with loading a richtextbox from a memorystream. I have some data in a database table stored as a byte array, I convert it to a string and load it into a memorystream and then I want to load that memory stream in the richtextbox.   Here is my code: class Soldier { public: Soldier(const string &name, const Gun &gun); string getName(); private: Gun gun; string name; }; class Gun { public: void fire(); void load(int bullets); int getBullets(); private: int bullets; } I need to call all the member functiosn of Gun over a Soldier object. Something like: soldier.gun.fire(); or soldier.getGun().load(15); So which one is a better design? Hiding the gun object as a private member and access it with getGun() function. Or making it a public member? Or I can encapsulate all these functions would make the implementation harder: soldier.loadGun(15); // calls Gun.load() soldier.fire(); // calls Gun.fire() So which one do you think is the best?

  I have several User Controls in a project, and one of them retrieves items from an XML, creates objects of the type "ClassItem" and should notify the other UserControl information about those items. I have created a class for my object (the "model" all items will have): public class ClassItem { public int Id { get; set; } public string Type { get; set; } } I have another class that is used to notify the other User Controls when an object of the type "ClassItem" is created: public class Class2: INotifyPropertyChanged { // Properties public ObservableCollection<ClassItem> ItemsCollection { get; internal set; } // Events public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; // Methods public void ShowItems() { ItemsCollection = new ObservableCollection<ClassItem>(); if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("ItemsCollection")); } } } The data comes from an XML file that is parsed in order to create the objects of type ClassItem: void DisplayItems(string xmlContent) { XDocument xmlItems = XDocument.Parse(xmlContent); var items = from item in xmlItems.Descendants("item") select new ClassItem{ Id = (int)item.Element("id"), Type = (string)item.Element("type) }; } If I'm not mistaken, this is supposed to parse the xml and create a ClassItem object for each item it finds in the XML. Hence, each time a new ClassItem object is created, this should fire the Notifications for all the UserControls that are "bind" to the "ItemsCollection" notifications defined in Class2. Yet the code in Class2 doesn't even seem to be run :-( and there are no notifications of course... Am I mistaken in any of the assumptions I've done, or am I missing something? • Cannot connect to a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services cube after installing SQL Server 2008 SP1.

  I've been developing an application that talks directly to an SSAS 2005 OLAP cube. Note that I also have SQL Server 2008 installed, so the other day I did a Windows Update and decided to include SQL Server 2008 SP1 in my update. After doing that, my SSAS 2005 cube is no longer accessible from my application. I'm able to browse the data just fine within SQL Server 2005 BI Studio Manager, but I'm not able to connect to the cube from my application. Here is my connection string that used to work: Data Source=localhost;Provider=msolap;Initial Catalog=Adventure Works DW Here is the error message I get: Either the user, [Server]/[User], does not have access to the Adventure Works DW database, or the database does not exist. • StackOverflow in VB.NET SQLite query

  I have an StackOverflowException in one of my DB functions that I don't know how to deal with. I have a SQLite database with one table "tblEmployees" that holds records for each employees (several thousand posts) and usually this function runs without any problem. But sometimes after the the function is called a thousand times it breaks with an StackOverflowException at the line "ReturnTable.Load(reader)" with the message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Data.SQLite.dll If I restart the application it has no problem to continue with the exact same post it last crashed on. I can also make the exactly same DB-call from SQLite Admin at the crash time without no problems. I assume there is some problem with allocated memory that isn't released correctly, but can't figure out what object it's all about. The DB-connection opens when the DB-class object is created and closes on main form Dispose. Should I maybe dispose the mycommand object every time in a finally block? But wouldn't that result in a closed DB-connection?

• WPF AutoCompleteBox with ability to add new values to list.

  Hi, I would like to use autocompletebox with a list of values, but also add new values to the list if a user enters one that isn't present. I currently have a string property in my view model called 'Comment'. Currently this is bound to a textbox in the view - user types a comment and the view model is updated. Simple. To save time, my customer would like it to autocomplete from previous values, so the way I thought to do this is something like: ViewModel public string Comment; public ObservableCollection<string> CommentsList { ... } (populate the CommentsList when the viewmodel is created) View <AutoCompleteComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding CommentsList}" SelectedItem="{Binding Comment, Mode=TwoWay/> So when the user selects a value, it saves the value in the Comment property. This works fine if the user selects an item in the list, but if the user types in a new value, the comment property is not updated (it is null because the selected item was not in the list).   I'm using JSF 2.0 and want to fill a selectOneMenu with the values of my Enum. A simple example: // Sample Enum public enum Gender { MALE("Male"), FEMALE("Female"); private final String label; private Gender(String label) { this.label = label; } public String getLabel() { return this.label; } } Unfortunately, i can't use Seam for my current project, which had a nice <s:convertEnum/> Tag that did most of the work. In Seam, to use the values of the Enum, i had to write the following markup (and create a factory that provides the #{genderValues}: <!-- the Seam way --> <h:selectOneMenu id="persongender" value="#{person.gender}"> <s:selectItems var="_gender" value="#{genderValues}"" label="#{_gender.label}"/> <s:convertEnum/> </h:selectOneMenu> The result is that i don't have to declare the Enum values explicitely anymore inside the markup. I know that this is not very easy in JSF <2.0, but is there any new in JSF2 to help with this issue? Or does Weld help here somehow? If there is nothing new in JSF2, what's the easiest way to do it in JSF 1.2? Or can i even integrate the Seam JSF tag and the corresponding classes of Seam to get the same feature in a JavaEE6-App (without the Seam container)?

• How to Customize JAXB Marshalling if generating JAXB beans from XML

  Hello, I want to customize the marshalling of dates in JAXB. It's a variant of this already asked question. I would think I would use an XMLAdapter, as this answer questions specifies. But I can't do that exactly, because I'm going the other way around, generating the JAXB beans from an .XSD -- I can't add annotations to the JAXB beans because they are generated code. I've tried calling Marshaller.setAdapter(), but with no luck. final Marshaller marshaller = getJaxbContext().createMarshaller(); marshaller.setSchema(kniSchema); marshaller.setAdapter(new DateAdapter()); ... private static class DateAdapter extends XmlAdapter<String, XMLGregorianCalendar> { @Override public String marshal(XMLGregorianCalendar v) throws Exception { return "hello"; //Just a test to see if it's working } @Override public XMLGregorianCalendar unmarshal(String v) throws Exception { return null; // Don't care about this for now } } Where the relevant part of my generated JAXB bean looks like this: @XmlSchemaType(name = "date") protected XMLGregorianCalendar activeSince; When I do this, what the default date/XMLGregorianCalendar marshalling happens. • C# Sockets Buffer Overflow No Error

At first, I thought that my tokenizer class was broken. But after logging all the incoming bytes to the tokenizer, it turns out that the raw bytes in recvb weren't a valid message. I didn't think that corrupted data like this was possible with a tcp data stream. I figured it had to be some type of buffer overflow so I set sock.ReceiveBufferSize = 1024 * 1024 * 8; and the parsing error never, ever occurs in testing (it happens often enough to replicate if I don't change the ReceiveBufferSize). But my question is: why wasn't I seeing an exception or an error state or something if the socket's internal buffer was overflowing before I changed this buffer size?

• Unicode Collations problem ?

  (.NET 3.5 SP1, VS 2008, VB.NET, MSSQL Server 2008) I'm writing a small web app to test the Khmer Unicode and Lao Unicode. I have a table that store text in Khmer Unicode with the following structure : [t_id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL [t_chid] [int] NOT NULL [t_vn] [int] NOT NULL [t_v] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL I can use Linq to SQL to do CRUD normally. The text display properly on the web page, even though I didn't change the default collation of MSSQL Server 2008. When it comes to search the column [t_v], the page will take a very long time to load and in fact, it loads every row of that column. It never compares with the "key word" criteria that I use for the search. I have set MinRowHeight="100" & I want the rows of DataGrid should be HorizontallyAligned at Center & Vertically at Left. Setting DataGrid properties VerticalContentAlignment="Center" HorizontalContentAlignment="Center" doesn't help. • Reading text out of textbox in Radgrid

  I have a Radgrid with 2 Textboxes and 2 DatePickers. The idea is that I have a grid with a Property name, value, valid from and until. I'm filling the first Textbox myself, the user has to fill in the value, from and until. Filling in the propertynames: (In the pageload) foreach (String s in testProperties) { DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); dr[0] = s; dr[1] = ""; dr[2] = ""; dr[3] = ""; dt.Rows.Add(dr); } When the user hit "Save" I have to read out all the data he filled in. When i read out the data all my 'str' have the value "" instead the data that the user fills in. Question is, how comes my values in the texboxes remain ""? Or is their a better way to read out the data?

• Explicit casting doesn't work in default model binding

  I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework. I am going to simplify the situation a little; hopefully it will make it clearer, not more confusing! I have a controller action to create address, and the country is a lookup table (in other words, there is a one-to-many relationship between Country and Address classes). Let's say for clarity that the field in the Address class is called Address.Land. And, for the purposes of the dropdown list, I am getting Country.CountryID and Country.Name. I am aware of Model vs. Input validation. So, if I call the dropdown field formLand - I can make it work. But if I call the field Land (that is, matching the variable in Address class) - I am getting the following error: "The parameter conversion from type 'System.String' to type 'App.Country' failed because no type converter can convert between these types." OK, this makes sense. A string (CountryID) comes from the form and the binder doesn't know how to convert it to Country type. So, I wrote the converter: namespace App { public partial class Country { public static explicit operator Country(string countryID) { AppEntities context = new AppEntities(); Country country = (Country) context.GetObjectByKey( new EntityKey("AppEntities.Countries", "CountryID", countryID)); return country; } } } FWIW, I tried both explicit and implicit. I tested it from the controller - Country c = (Country)"fr" - and it works fine. However, it never got invoked when the View is posted. I am getting the same "no type converter" error in the model. Any ideas how to hint to the model binder that there is a type converter? Thanks

• C# Web Reference and PHP

  I am attempting to call a Web Service (created in PHP) from my C# application. I have successfully added the Web Reference in Visual Studios, however I cannot figure out exactly how to invoke the call to the web service. I have been following this tutorial: http://sanity-free.org/article25.html however when I try and compile I get a "The type or namespace name 'SimpleService' could not be found". • ASP.NET Create zip file for download: the compressed zipped folder is invalid or corrupted

When I navigate to the directory c:\temp\ and double-click on the test.zip file; it opens right up. My problem seems only to be with the download. The code above executes without any issue. A file download dialog is presented. I can chose to either save or open. If I try to open the file from the dialog, or save it and then open it. I get the following dialog message: The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted. For Response.ContentType I've tried: application/x-compressed application/x-zip-compressed application/x-gzip-compresse application/octet-stream application/zip The zip file is being created with some prior code (that I'm sure is working fine due to my ability to open the created file directly) using: Ionic.zip http://www.codeplex.com/DotNetZip

• How can I run BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. • Why is OracleDataAdapter.Fill() Very Slow?

  I am using a pretty complex query to retrieve some data out of one of our billing databases. I'm running in to an issue where the query seems to complete fairly quickly when executed with SQL Developer, but does not seem to ever finish when using the OracleDataAdapter.Fill() method. I'm only trying to read about 1000 rows, and the query completes in SQL Developer in about 20 seconds. What could be causing such drastic differences in performance? I have tons of other queries that run quickly using the same function. • C# - Get values of static properties from static class

  I'm trying to loop through some static properties in a simple static class in order to populate a combo box with their values, but am having difficulties. Here is the simple class: public static MyStaticClass() { public static string property1 = "NumberOne"; public static string property2 = "NumberTwo"; public static string property3 = "NumberThree"; } ... and the code attempting to retrieve the values: Type myType = typeof(MyStaticClass); PropertyInfo[] properties = myType.GetProperties( BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Static | BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly); foreach (PropertyInfo property in properties) { MyComboBox.Items.Add(property.GetValue(myType, null).ToString()); } If I don't supply any binding flags then I get about 57 properties including things like System.Reflection.Module Module and all sorts of other inherited things I don't care about. My 3 declared properties are not present. If I supply various combinations of other flags then it always returns 0 properties. Great. Does it matter that my static class is actually declared within another non-static class? Please help! What am I doing wrong?
