• Using an initializer_list on a map of vectors

  I've been trying to initialize a map of <ints, vector<ints> > using the new 0X standard, but I cannot seem to get the syntax correct. I'd like to make a map with a single entry with key:value = 1:<3,4 #include <initializer_list> #include <map> #include <vector> using namespace std; map<int, vector<int> > A = {1,{3,4}}; .... It dies with the following error using gcc 4.4.3: error: no matching function for call to std::map<int,std::vector<int,std::allocator<int> >,std::less<int>,std::allocator<std::pair<const int,std::vector<int,std::allocator<int> > > > >::map(<brace-enclosed initializer list>) Edit Following the suggestion by Cogwheel and adding the extra brace it now compiles with a warning that can be gotten rid of using the -fno-deduce-init-list flag. Is there any danger in doing so?

• Two "Calendar" entries listed on iPad - can't write to calendar using EventKit

  My iOS app integrates with the device's calendar. On my iPad when I view the calendar app and tap the Calendars button on the top left to choose which calendars to show I see one entry named "Calendar". In my app when I loop through available calendars per the code below "Calendar" is listed twice. One is CalDAV for the type, the other is Local. I'm unable to create calendar entries in one of them, I believe the "Local" one, not sure why.   I want to display a list of the answers a student entered incorrectly. How do I identify the index of these questions? I hope you understand my problem.

• Distinct or group by on some columns but not others

  I have a view that I'm trying to filter with something similar to DISTINCT on some columns but not others. I have a view like this: Name LastName Zip Street1 HouseholdID (may not be unique because it may have multiple addresses -- think of it in the logical sense as grouping persons but not physical locations; If you lookup HouseholdID 4130, you may get two rows.. or more, because the person may have mutiple mailing locations) City State I need to pull all those columns but filter on LastName,Zip, and Street1. Here's the fun part: The filter is arbitrary -- meaning I don't care which one of the duplicates goes away. This is for a mail out type thing and the other information is not used for any other reason than than to look up a specific person if needed (I have no idea why). So.. given one of the records, you can easily figure out the removed ones. As it stands now, my Sql-Fu fails me and I'm filtering in C# which is incredibly slow and is pretty much a foreach that starts with an empty list and adds the row in if the combined last name, zip, and street aren't are not in the list. I feel like I'm missing a simple / basic part of SQL that I should be understanding.

  I have a ParameterView and ParameterViewModel, and I need the ParameterViewModel to have a reference to the Parameter view (more on that later). In the window I have a list of ParameterViewModels and in the ResourceDictionary I add the DataTemplate: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type my:ParameterViewModel}" > <my:ParameterView HorizontalAlignment="Left"/> </DataTemplate> I then bind an ItemsControl.ItemSource to the List of ParameterViewModels The problem is: How can I pass the ParameterView to the ParameterViewModel in this scenario? The reason I need the ParameterView in the ParameterViewModel is the following: I have a TextBox whose Text property is binded to the PropertyModelView.Name property. But I want to display a default string when the Name is empty or Null. I've tried to set the property value to the default string I want when that happens but the TextBox.Text is not set in this scenario. I do something like this: private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } set { if (value == null || value.Length == 0) Name = _defaultName; else _name = value; } } I've also tried to specifically set the TextBox.Text binding mode to TwoWay without success. In my particular case I use 4 digits (1,2,3,4) and the length of the last number can be from 1 to 10. I managed to do it in Python and PHP. In the first case I used list over lists. • Immutability and shared references - how to reconcile?

  Consider this simplified application domain: Criminal Investigative database Person is anyone involved in an investigation Report is a bit of info that is part of an investigation A Report references a primary Person (the subject of an investigation) A Report has accomplices who are secondarily related (and could certainly be primary in other investigations or reports These classes have ids that are used to store them in a database, since their info can change over time (e.g. we might find new aliases for a person, or add persons of interest to a report) If these are stored in some sort of database and I wish to use immutable objects, there seems to be an issue regarding state and referencing. Supposing that I change some meta-data about a Person. Since my Person objects immutable, I might have some code like: class Person( val id:UUID, val aliases:List[String], val reports:List[Report]) { def addAlias(name:String) = new Person(id,name :: aliases,reports) } So that my Person with a new alias becomes a new object, also immutable. If a Report refers to that person, but the alias was changed elsewhere in the system, my Report now refers to the "old" person, i.e. the person without the new alias. Similarly, I might have: class Report(val id:UUID, val content:String) { /** Adding more info to our report */ def updateContent(newContent:String) = new Report(id,newContent) } Since these objects don't know who refers to them, it's not clear to me how to let all the "referrers" know that there is a new object available representing the most recent state. This could be done by having all objects "refresh" from a central data store and all operations that create new, updated, objects store to the central data store, but this feels like a cheesy reimplementation of the underlying language's referencing. i.e. it would be more clear to just make these "secondary storable objects" mutable. So, if I add an alias to a Person, all referrers see the new value without doing anything. How is this dealt with when we want to avoid mutability, or is this a case where immutability is not helpful?

• What is the optimum way to select the most dissimilar individuals from a population?

  I have tried to use k-means clustering to select the most diverse markers in my population, for example, if we want to select 100 lines I cluster the whole population to 100 clusters then select the closest marker to the centroid from each cluster. The problem with my solution is it takes too much time (probably my function needs optimization), especially when the number of markers exceeds 100000. So, I will appreciate it so much if anyone can show me a new way to select markers that maximize diversity in my population and/or help me optimize my function to make it work faster. • flex positioning a button within a panel

  All I'm trying to do is place a button inside of a panel, rotate that button (so it is vertical) and place it on the edge of the panel. I can;t seem to do this correctly. I am just trying to move it somewhere, and nothing is working. Also, the text seems to dissapear when I rotate it on a 90% axis. Anyone know what I can do for this?

• Automatically use inclusion tags (?) in a template, depending on installed apps

  The title may be a little confusing, but I don't know how else to call it. I would like to create a Django project with a large set of applications you could arbitrary turn on or off using INSTALLED_APPS option in settings.py (you would obviously also need to edit urls.py and run syncdb). After being turned on an app should be able to automatically: Register it's content in site-wide search. Luckily django-haystack has this built-in, so it's not a problem. Register cron jobs. django-cron does exactly that. Not a problem. Register a widget that should be displayed on the homepage. The homepage should include a list of boxes with widgets form different applications. I thought about inclusion tags, because you can put them anywhere on a page and they control both content and presentation. The problem is I don't know how to automatically get a list of inclusion tags provided by my applications, and display them one by one on a homepage. I need a way to register them somehow, and then display all registered tags.

  Hi, I'm working on a pair comparison site where a user loads a list of films and grades from another site. My site then picks two random movies and matches them against each other, the user selects the better of the two and a new pair is loaded. This gives a complete list of movies ordered by whichever is best. The database contains three tables; fm_film_data - this contains all imported movies fm_film_data(id int(11), imdb_id varchar(10), tmdb_id varchar(10), title varchar(255), original_title varchar(255), year year(4), director text, description text, poster_url varchar(255)) fm_films - this contains all information related to a user, what movies the user has seen, what grades the user has given, as well as information about each film's wins/losses for that user. fm_films(id int(11), user_id int(11), film_id int(11), grade int(11), wins int(11), losses int(11)) fm_log - this contains records of every duel that has occurred. fm_log(id int(11), user_id int(11), winner int(11), loser int(11)) To pick a pair to show the user, I've created a mySQL query that checks the log and picks a pair at random. • Compressing a database to a single file?

  Hi all. In my contact manager program I have been storing information by reading and writing comma delimited files for each individual contact, and storing notes in a file for each note, and I'm wondering how I could go about shrinking them all into one file effectively. I have attempted using data entry tools in the visual studio toolbox and template class, though I have never quite figured out how to use them. What would be especially convenient is if I could store data as data type IOwner (a class I created) as opposed to strings. I'd also need to figure out how to tell the program what to do when a file is opened (I've noticed in the properties how to associate a file type with the program though am not sure how to tell it what to do when it's opened). Edit: How about rephrasing the question: I have a class IContact with various properties some of them being lists of other class objects. I have a public list of IContact. Can I write Contacts as List(Of IContact) to a file as opposed to a bunch of strings? Second part of the question: I have associated .cms files with my program. But if a user opens the file, what code should the program run through in an attempt to deal with the file? This file is going to contain data that the program needs to read, how do I tell it to read a file when the program is opened vicariously because the file was opened? Does this make the question clearer?

• Handling Denormalized Schema with Eclipselink

  Hello All I have a denormalized table containing employee information. The fields are employee id, name and department name. The primary key is a composite one consisting of all three fields. An employee can belong to multiple departments. I want to read/write the objects in the table using the Eclipselink Dynamic Persistence API (which is infact a wrapper on top of JPA descriptors etc.). Example Data: 1 e1 dep1 2 e1 dep2 3 e2 dep1 4 e2 dep3 5 e3 dep1 5 e3 dep2 5 e3 dep3 A normal ReadAllQuery (select query) on the table returns a DynamicEntity corresponding to each row in the table. However I want to club all entities based on the emp id and return all the departments he belongs to as a list. I can merge the entities after retrieving them but if I can use some Eclipselink feature out of the box then it would be better. One way to do the read is the following: I create two dynamic types corresponding to employee: Having id,name as the primary key Having id, department as the primary key, I create a OneToManyMapping from the first type to the second one. Then when I query the first type it does return the departments to which employee belongs as a list of DynamicEntity of the second type. This satisfies the read scenario. Is there a better way of doing this? Is this inherently supported by Eclipselink or JPA? I cannot get the same dynamic type configuration working for the write scenario. This is because when I write the changes using the writeObject method of UnitOfWork, it generates insert queries which enter the following entries in the table id name department 102 emp_102 102 st 102 dep_102 102 dep_102 102 dep_102 instead of: id name department 102 emp_102 st 102 emp_102 dep_102 102 emp_102 dep_102 102 emp_102 dep_102 Is there any way I can get write to work with this schema using eclipselink? I want to avoid doing the heavy lifting of merging the rows for such a denormalized schema or generating each row before doing a write. Is there no clean way of doing this using Eclipselink or JPA?   I am working on a c# project using ASP .net. I have a list of reports with a hyperlink for each, which calls the web server, retrieves a PDF and then returns the PDF for the user to save or open: ASPX page: <table> <tr> <td> <a href="#" onclick="SubmitFormToOpenReport();">Open Report 1</a> <td> </tr> ... </table> ASP.Net: context.Response.Clear(); context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=report.pdf"); context.Response.Charset = ""; context.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"; context.Response.BinaryWrite(myReport); context.Response.Flush(); This works as expected, however I would like it to also refresh the page with an updated list. I am having trouble as the single request/response is returning the report. Is there a way to refresh the page as well? While there is a correct response, feel free to include answers which details alternative solutions/ideas for doing this.

  Hello i have a list view control, While the form is being loaded i fill the list, i have aprrox. say 100+ items. While filling i check some parameters and decide which item/row need to be selected. i set the Selected property to true... refer the code below: some lines here ..... ListViewItem listViewItem = new ListViewItem("COL1"); listViewItem.SubItems.Add("COL2"); check for some condition and then listViewItem.Selected = true; this.m_lstViewCtrl.Items.Add(listViewItem); This does select the item, there are no issues with it... however, say the ctrl is sized to see onlu say some 15 items, but the selection is say some 35th item.... currently the scroll bar appears the item is selected but i have to scroll to see what was selected? is it possible to scroll to the selected item so that is selection is clearly visible... Will the same apply for a Treeview?

• How to test a Grails Service that utilizes a criteria query (with spock)?

  I am trying to test a simple service method. That method mainly just returns the results of a criteria query for which I want to test if it returns the one result or not (depending on what is queried for). The problem is, that I am unaware of how to right the corresponding test correctly. I am trying to accomplish it via spock, but doing the same with any other way of testing also fails. Can one tell me how to amend the test in order to make it work for the task at hand? (BTW I'd like to keep it a unit test, if possible.) • Storing values in the DataValueField and DataTextField of a dropdownlist using a linq query

  I have a website for dance academy where Users can register and add/drop dance classes. In the web page to drop a particular dance, for a particular user, the dropdown displays her registered dances. Now I want to delete one of the dances from the list. So I'll remove the row from the table and also from the dropdownlist. The problem is that everytime the item with the lowest ID (index) is getting deleted, no matter which one the user selects. I think I am storing the DataTextField and DataValueField for the dropdown incorrectly.   I’m new to object oriented database designs and I’m trying to understand how I should be structuring my classes in JDO for google app engine, particularly one to many relationships. Let’s say I’m building a structure for a department store where there are many departments, and each department has many products. So the next question is, how do I not duplicate data in the OOD world and have only one copy of product data in numerous departments? And the next question is, let’s say I delete out a particular product, how do each of the departments know it was deleted?

• Reading lines of data from text files using java

  I have a text file with x amount of lines. each line holds a integer number. When the user clicks a button, an action is performed via actionlistener where it should list all the values as displayed on the text file. However, right now I have linenum set to 10 implying I already told the code that just work with 10 lines of the text file. So, if my text file has only 3 rows/lines of data...it will list those lines and for rest of the other 7 lines, it will spit out "null". I recall there is a way to use ellipsis to let the program know that you don't know the exact value but at the end it calculates it based on the given information. Where my given information will the number of lines with numbers(data). • Handling very large lists of objects without paging?

  Hi, I have a class which can contain many small elements in a list. Looks like: public class Farm { private ArrayList<Horse> mHorses; } just wondering what will happen if the mHorses array grew to something crazy like 15,000 elements. I'm assuming that trying to write and read this from the datastore would be crazy, because I'd get killed on the serialization process. It's important that I can get the entire array in one shot without paging, and each Horse element may only have two string properties in it, so they are pretty lightweight: public class Horse { private String mId; private String mName; } I don't need these horses indexed at all. Does it sound reasonable to just store the mHorse array as a raw Text field, and force my clients to do the deserialization? Something like: public class Farm { private Text mHorsesSerialized; } then whenever the client receives a Farm instance, it has to take the raw string of horses, and split it in order to reinstantiate the list, something like: // GWT client perhaps Farm farm = rpcCall.getMyFarm(); String horsesSerialized = farm.getHorses(); String[] horseBlocks = horsesSerialized.split(","); for (int i = 0; i < horseBlocks.length; i++) { // .. continue deserializing the individual objects ... } yeah... so hopefully it would be quick to read a Farm instance from the datastore, and the serialization penalty is paid by the client, Thanks

  I like to display textView when there are no items in the listView whereas the textView will not display when there are items in the listView. My problem is even there are items in the listView, the textView still will be displayed in a short time and then load the items into listView. So, how to make the TextView invisible when there are items in listView?
