• samsung HMX-H100P camcorder and video encoding with mencoder

  Hi everyone, my background is totally not related to video stuff so pardon my newbie style. I own a samsung HMX-H100P camcorder and I'm trying to encode videos to be uploaded to Youtube and Vimeo. First problem: videos generated by the camera with no processing appear like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AANbl_DTuzE when I play them with Totem(Linux) or VideoLan. Second problem: When I try to encode the videos produced by the camera using mencoder I get the video at the resolution I chose but those ugly lines and lagging are still present. Here's the command I use: mencoder $inputFile -aspect 16:9 -of lavf -lavfopts format=psp -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts aglobal=1:vglobal=1:coder=0:vcodec=libx264:acodec=libfaac:vbitrate=4500:abitrate=128 -vf scale=1280:720 -ofps 25000/1001 -o $outputFile Any ideas? • How to delete/detect what terminal software I have?

  On mac osx terminal, I installed many terminal programs while trying to install a programming library. Now I'm wondering how I delete them. I think some of them include pip, macports, vmenven (or something). I'm not sure what these programs are called but they all are called from the command line using something like "macports..." (so I'm calling them terminal programs). First, how do I tell what terminal programs are installed. Second, how do I delete them. And, to be through, where are the programs stored anyway?

• Apache + mod_php Ignores SUID?

  Does apache or mod_php cause a SUID flag to be ignored when using the shell_exec command from a web accessed PHP script? I'm trying to allow a web accessible PHP script to rename some files which the apache user does not have write access to. I don't want to give it access to write these, as I only want one controlled script to be able to do this. I'm trying to avoid SUDO and the config needed or the headache/insecurity of using a que called from a privileged users cron, and it seemed like I should be able to use SUID to accomplish this. • Installing raid controller forces reinstall of Windows Server 2008

  So, I've tried two different RAID controllers that have external SATA connections on my Server 2008 machine. I can install the hardware, boot into Windows, install the drivers and reboot again. No problems. However, as soon as I try to use eSATA-connected drives and reboot something happens to the Windows install and I can no longer boot into Windows. I tried repairing from the command line, and the end result is that repair console tells me I have 0 Windows installations (?). I end up having no choice but to reinstall Windows to get back on track. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but I don't know what :(

• NRPE and the $USER1$ variable

  I have NRPE daemons running on all of my remote Linux boxes. I have a couple configurations in place and I'm trying to standardize the paths in my nrpe.cfg. The changes are deployed via Puppet. I would like to use the following syntax: command[mycommand]=$USER1$/check_tcp .. etc. The $USER1$ variable is not available in my NRPE setup. I could write Puppet templates for all the variants but I would much prefer to manage this through a native method. Is there anything available to do so? If not does anyone have a sample Puppet config that will address this?

  Hi, after a other mac or macbook is connected with a mini display port to a new generation imac you can switch between the imac and the other connected mac pressing cmd+F2(brightness up) using the keyboard of the imac. i connect my macbook to my imac, switch to the macbook and connect the bluetooth keyboard and mouse of my imac to my macbook. after that i'm not able to switch back to my imac, because the keyboard is used on my macbook. i have a second mouse connected to my imac, so i'd would be cool to switch views and control my imac with my second mouse. is it possible to send the shortcut cmd+F2 to my imac from my macbook? via command line or something? using apple script? all ideas are welcome, thanks!

  I am trying to write a utility as a batch file that, among other things, adds a user to the "Deny logon locally" local security policy. This batch file will be used on hundreds of independent computers (not on a domain and aren't even on the same network). I assumed one of the following were my options, but perhaps there's one I haven't thought of. A command line utility similar to net.exe which can modify local security policy. A VBScript sample to do the same. Write my own using some WMI or Win32 calls. I'd rather not do this one if I don't have to.

  I am running Apache2 on a Mac OS X (10.5). I just compiled PHP 5.2.8 and finally got pdo-mysql working (or so I think). My command line "php --version" is showing 5.2.8 and I have the right modules installed. But, when do a phpinfo(), Apache dumps out PHP 5.2.6 (my earlier version, without pdo_mysql). How do I tell Apache which PHP to load? The httpd.conf has the line: LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so But, I don't know what or where that is. Is that what I have to change?

  I'm totally lost. I've just built a new system and installed Ubuntu 12.04. It's my first time with Linux and getting into the terminal / command line for the first time since IBMDOS 5 and Windows 3.1 has been a steep learning curve. However, the interface works beautifully apart from it doesn't recognize my Hanvon Artmaster AM1209. I have sent diagnostics to Digimend and Favux was kind enough to advise that the tablet should be using the Wacom X driver as the Hanvon is actually a Hanwang and these should be supported. lsusb reports: ID 0b57:8501 Beijing HanwangTechnology Co., Ltd xinput list reports: ? • Couldn't make Angry birds to work on wine

  I could run Notepad++ easily but I fail to run the Angry bird exe. Whenever I open the exe, I see one of my screen flickrs a bit (as lines and not the whole screen) and nothing happens. Any ideas?   When I go to localhost/~admin/ or 127.0.0.1/~admin/ my browser says: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /~admin/ on this server." How do I change this?!??!?! It's driving me nuts! when I go to localhost or 127.0.0.1/ my browser says: "It Works!". I'm running mac osx 10.8. I created aliases in my .bash_profile file so that I can start, restart and stop Apache quickly: alias startApache="sudo apachectl start" alias stopApache="sudo apachectl stop" alias restartApache="sudo apachectl restart" In my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file I turned on php5: LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so I also made sure to change the permissions for my admin.conf file with this command in terminal: sudo chmod 644 username.conf This is my /etc/apache2/users/admin.conf: <Directory "/Users/admin/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory>

• Upgrading openSUSE 11.1 with Plesk Panel 9.3 to PHP 5.3

  I'm running a VPS with openSUSE 11.1 (i586). On the VPS is Parallels Plesk Panel 9.3.0 installed. The current PHP-version is PHP 5.2.11. I want to upgrade PHP to PHP 5.3, but I can't find good instructions on how to do this. If I check for updates in Zypper, it says this is the latest release. In the Plesk Updates isn't an update either, both via the webbased interface and the command line interface. On Software.openSUSE.org I can find packages for PHP 5.3.1 in both the server:php/server_apache_openSUSE_11.1-repo and the server:php/openSUSE_11.1-repo (can't post the link because I'm a newbie here). But if I add one of those to Zypper, I still don't see an update. Is there here somebody who knows how to do this? And is it completely safe to update that way? I don't want to end up with a broken VPS... Thanks! Jonathan

But in the above output, I simply couldn't understand what 21212906w and 54518724d mean? some considerable no of processes are showing the TIME+ with w and d prefixed. What does this mean? Is the server in trouble? Just to let you know - the server uptime is 4days. EDIT: - I can guess these refer week and days. If so why is it so large considering the uptime? - The server has 8 cores.

• Enable/Disable a network adapter with a keyboard shortcut

  I started out trying to use a shortcut to display the Local Area Connection Status window on my desktop by creating a shortcut and assigning it Ctrl+, (comma). Windows didn't like that, so it added Alt, which ended up being Ctrl+Alt++,. Since I couldn't figure out a way to eliminate Alt as part of the shortcut keys, I am now trying a different strategy and it's not working. My latest attempt is to use AutoHotkey with the following command: ^,::Run, explorer ::{BA126ADB-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E} Which is what the shortcut target number is, but it won't open the window.

• Getting around the lack of GPT support with CentOS 5.4

  Here is my issue and I hoping that there is someone out there that has an answer so I don't end up stuck here at my co-location all day. Last night I came here and upgraded a server (Dell 2970) to have four 1TB Hard Drives in RAID 5 which leaves a 3TB block. I tried to partition this but keep getting an error that GPT is not supported so I found a site online telling me I need to run the dd command and right random data to /dev/sda. This is great (if it works) but taking forever. I have two more machines to upgrade today and not a chair in site. Does anyone have advice on how I can avoid this issue beforehand? • Vim Stuck In Insert Mode

  I've been using Vim for several months now via my web host (they allow putty access). All of a sudden, the escape key has become unresponsive. I cannot exist insert or any other mode by simply hitting escape. I have to hit F1 which brings up the help in vim and kicks me into command mode. I'm most certain that my escape key on my keyboard is functioning fine since all of my windows shortcuts that use the escape key operate normally. I know this is a ridiculous question and I'm certain there's a lot more to look into regarding a solution. What I really need is a solid lead as to where to start looking. • Application Compatibility Clients do not show in MSSQL database, but do show in \AppCompat\

  Application Compatibility Clients are not denied access to the central MSSQL database, but are able to leave their own files in the \AppCompat\ share. The only computer that shows up in the "Microsoft Application Compatibility Manager" database is the the machine i initially created the .MSI installer from. The MSI successfullly pushed out via GPO and like i said there are tons of file in the \AppCompat\ share from many different computers. But only 1 pc shows up in the "Data Collection Manager" database, so i only have data from one machine. i could manually add all these machines (ADNETBIOSNAME\MACHINENAME221$) to the MSSQL AppCompat db permissions list or use an SQL command to do so in batch, but i suspect i must have missed something. Do you manually edit the MSI to set the credentials?

  Can anyone help me by giving your postfix configuration file as a reference so that I can find my mistakes? I'm working on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. My goal is to set up a mailserver in a campus network. Postfix shows it is running but no mail is sent to var/spool/mail I send mail using mail command at terminal.
