  • Cloud e-mail and portal integration: experiences?

    I am evaluating cloud e-mail solutions based upon: Google Apps for Education Microsoft Live@edu I work for a University and we currently have an institutional portal (based on uPortal). We currently have our local IMAP server and webmail client fully integrated with the portal. We would like to replicate the current portal e-mail experience with the new e-mail services. At present users can see a snapshot of their inbox in the portal and click through into the appropriate place in the webmail client. We expect that we need to solve similar problems when integrating with the cloud based e-mail solutions. We need to solve the single sign-on (SSO) problem. We need to be able to access the inbox messages on the users behalf. (e.g. proxy authentication) Does anybody have an experience or advice on this? Many thanks, Mark

  • How to do a sample rate conversion in Windows (and OSX)

    I am about to write an audio file converter for my side job at the university. As part of this I would need sample rate conversion. However, my professor said that it would be pretty hard to write a sample rate converter that was both of good quality and fast. On my research on the subject, I found some functions in the OSX CoreAudio-framework, that could do a sample rate conversion (AudioConverter.h). After all, an OS has to have some facilities to do that for its own audio stack. Do you know a similar method for C/C++ and Windows, that are either part of the OS or open source? I am pretty sure that this function exists within DirectX Audio (XAudio2?), but I seem to be unable to find a reference to it in the MSDN library.

  • How to output two ddl files at the same time with using maven hbm2ddl plugin

    Our application needs to use two different kinds of databases.One is oracle, the other is mysql and we want to use maven plugin hbm2ddl to generate the ddl file, and want to output the two ddl files at the same time, I don't know how to set the configuration in pom.xml. I tried to use this plugin twice, but it always generated one ddl file. Any one encountered such case before ? could u please give some advice.

    Hello, I recently had to program C++ under Windows for an University project, and I'm pretty confused about static and dynamic libraries system, what the compiler needs, what the linker needs, how to build a library ... is there any good document about this out there? I'm pretty confused about the *nix library system as well (so, dylibs, the ar tool, how to compile them ...), can you point a review document about the current library techniques on the various architectures?     My university is holding a quiz contest in 2 weeks, and I need some sort of software (desktop or web based) that can be used to manage the quiz. I need functionality like an admin panel for adding teams, creating matches between 2 teams, adding questions and answers.   • Invoking SQL Loader with a DSN

    I'm trying to load some data to an Oracle database using SQL Loader. Is it possible to invoke it with specifying the server to load the data into using a DSN instead of a TNS? Right now my command line looks like this: sqlldr uesr/password@tns_id..., I'd like to replace tns_id with a DSN that points to tns_id. Can SQL Loader figure out the TNS from the DSN by itself?

    I was just remembering back my university classes and was wondering to know if anyone out here even used the "Z notation" in a professional environment. I honestly must say that it was the single most boring class that I have ever attended in my life. Maybe because of the teacher, but at the time we really all thought it was a big waste of time.   • Win32 API Programming - Is it worth ?

    Now I code win32 api windows explorer . But it seems quite hard to me.I've a month to do it. But through the time I code, I wonder is it worth that I code win32 api ? . When we can create GUI easily with MFC or even easier with C#. What should I do ? 1- Keep coding with win32 api to deeply understand about them. 2- Just learn and code some programs to understand how they work. Can you determine how many time does it take in each choice ( or how many projects ). Thx for reading, as a 2nd student of IT University I really want your advice in this.     hello.i am so new to networking i want to design a large scale network for an organization with HQ and two branches. i want to use class A address for that.my questions are: if i am using the network address 30.0.0.0 for the whole organization how can it be different from another organization company or whatever which is using the same address in another country? now i have the three locations for this organization,so i need 5 subnets [one for the HQ,two for branch A and branch B , one for connecting A to HQ and one for connecting branch B with HQ since i will use central DHCP server at the HQ,is that(number of subnetting) right? is it advisable to use class A or class B for this organization it term of address that will be wasted (lets say it is a university with two branches in two different states)?! that is all your help is highly appropriated.

    Hello. Unfortunately, (written) midterms are necessary in most university CS programs in the world. They tell us how well our students (and ourselves as teachers) are doing. Needless to say, designing midterms for a C Programming Language course is not easy. For instance, when we do program for real, we have a myriad of information at our disposal: websites, books, cheat sheets to "remember" the syntax and so on. My question is this: did you find any way, during your years at school or training, where you said: ok, this midterm evaluation of my programming skills is tough, but fair. For instance: I found "find 5 problems with this code"-type questions hard but interesting and telling. Are there any others? Thanks.

  • Advice needed: What tech expertise do I need to accomplish my goal?

    I have a business plan & money to hire a developer - the essentials involve simple online games for children (played via traditional computer over the internet) such that their scores are uploaded to a database that can be viewed via a nice portal. What I don't know is: what technologies I would want my developer to know (the only somewhat unusual requirement I have is that the games have relatively accurate timing of keypresses/mouse presses) how much I should expect to pay (in general, what is the appropriate range) how many hours a program of the complexity of a simple tower defense -type game should take to develop (to be clear, the idea is not to implement TD, but rather other games of similar complexity) whether I should go with capable acquaintances, some online kind of online web-dev bidding site, or just try to find a capable undergraduate at the local university who I can wow with his/her first big paycheck, how I should communicate the software's specifications to my hired developer... Is there a standard I should be using? whether I should hire a webdev consultant for a few hours to help me answer these questions, instead of asking stackoverflow Thanks for any advice!

  • Any good SQL Anywhere database schema comparison tools?

    Are there any good database schema comparison tools out there that support Sybase SQL Anywhere version 10? I've seen a litany of them for SQL Server, a few for MySQL and Oracle, but nothing that supports SQL Anywhere correctly. I tried using DB Solo, but it turned all my non-unique indexes into unique ones, and I didn't see any options to change that.

    My team has grown fairly quickly from 1 to 5 over the last year or so and are very interested in changing our development style from Waterfall to a more iterative approach like Scrum. We work for a University and specialize in CRUD web apps for internal customers who are always changing requirements along the way. So, my question is...How do we best implement Scrum techniques? Supplemental concerns: Is it recommended to quit Waterfall "cold turkey" in order to facilitate the transition or do you feel a progressive approach is more effective?   • Using GLOrtho to view Side, Front, Top perspectives of a 3D scene

    Dear all, I'm building a game level editing app as part of a university project. In my application I have multiple viewports, a Perspective viewport and three orthographic views all setup to view the same scene. I've successfuly setup the orthographic views and can translate and scale them to mimic scrolling and zooming. Unfortunately, I'm having one problem - my scene still contains 3 dimensions, so objects viewed in orthographic mode of certain depths are clipped when they fall outside of my clipping volume. Most 3D authoring tools or level editors allow you to view all objects in orthographic mode regardless of depth. I guess what I need to do is scale my scene in the appropriate dimension so that all values lie between 1 and -1, is there a straightforward way of going about this? Or is there a different better approach. Thanks very much for your help, Dan
