• Can't Ping - Wireless network of home

  Hello, This may seem like other ping problem, but I have tried a lot before posting it here. I have a linksys WRT54G - firmware v8.00.8. I have two laptops one windows vista (192.168.1.99) and Windows Xp (192.168.1.13) connected on WiFi . The Router's IP address is 192.168.1.4, and default gateway is the ADSL modem (192.168.1.1) connected through wire. The problem is that laptops can not ping each other, they can ping the gateway and the linksys router, and both can access internet. Following has been tried (I am pinging from XP machine to Vista): I saw that arp entires for Vista machines were not being populated, so I added static ARP entries. 192.168.1.99 00-19-7e-70-d0-4e static I checked on ethereal that an ICMP packet for MAC address of Vista machine does go out from XP machine towards the Vista machine, but never reaches the Vista machine. So its get eaten by the Router? I added Vista machine to DMZ in my linksys router, so that all the ports are open (In case it was an issue). Firewalls , antivirus etc were turned off, echo was enabled explicitly on vista, file sharing, network discovery were turned on. Network type was set to private. Unchecked everything in Router;s firewall, even though they are only meant for WAN requests. Is there anything else that I should try. Thanks.

  I am using a pre-made social networking script where all user uploads go to site.com/public/user/ How can I make /public/user/ my secondary hard drive so all user uploads are uploaded to my second harddrive and not the primary hard drive. I have over 100GB of images, and I want them on my other HDD now. Thank you. • Windows 7 VPN only works if I connect it to itself first

  Just so you have some detail, VPN request are port forwarded from a linksys router hosting the global static IP (to the world) to the windows 7 machine. The ports have been added to the OK list. I have the incoming VPN connection setup on win 7 but the only way it will work from anywhere outside the physical machine is if I connect from itself to itself first. For example, let's say my internal static IP is 10.0.0.50 and incoming VPN server connection IP is 10.0.0.80 (both on the same machine). I can't connect via VPN from anywhere unless I first VPN from the machines .50 address back to itself on the .80 address. Once I do that, I can connect form anywhere, even my phone. It's as if once the machine reboots it thinks it should block requests on .80 until .50 connects first. BitDefender antivirus/firewall is loaded (windows firewall is off) I don't see anywhere to exclude ports in the BitDefender control panel. Maybe this initial connection opens the ports and tags them as safe because the initial request came from the same machine? Any thoughts? It's driving me nuts and I'm sick of having to drive half way across town over to the server, try to get building access and do the initial connection. Please help

• Locate devices within a building

  The situation: Our company is spread between two floors in a building. Every employee has a laptop (macbook Air or MacbookPro) and an iPhone. We have static DHCP mappings and DNS resolution so every mobile gets a name like employeeiphone.example.com, every macbook air gets a employeelaptop.example.com and every macbook pro gets a employeelaptop.example.com on the Ethernet interface (the wifi gets a dynamic IP from a small range dedicated for the purpose). We know each and every MAC address of phones and laptops, since we do DHCP static mapping (ISC DHCP server runs on linux). At each floor we have a Netgear stack of two switches, connected via 10GB fiber to each other. No VLANs so far. At every floor there are 4 Airport Extreme making a single SSID network with WPA2 authentication. The request: Our CTO wants to know who is present at which floor. My solution (so far): Every switch contains an table listing MAC address and originating port. On each switch stack, all the MAC addresses coming from the other floor are listed as coming on port 48 (the fiber link). So I came up with: 1) Get the table from each switch via SNMP 2) Filter out the ones associated with port 48 3) Grep dhcpd.conf, removing all entries not *laptop and not *iphone 4) Match the two lists for each switch, output in JSON or XML 5) present the results on a dashboard for all to see I wrote it in bash with a lot of awk and sed, it kinda works but I always have for some reason stale entries in the switch lookup tables, making it unreliable; some people may have put their laptop to sleep, their iphones drop connections after a while, if not woken up and so on..I searched left and right, we are prepared to spend a little on the project too (RFIDs?), does anybody do something similar? I can provide with the script if needed (although it's really specific to our switches and naming scheme). Thanks! p.s. perhaps is this a question for stackoverflow? please move if it so.

  Hi, I'm trying out Zend Studio trial and I have a few things on my mind related to PhpDoc. If I have the following code: public function sum($a, $b) { echo $a + $b; } and then I start typing /** in the front of the function and press Enter, Zend Studio automatically makes the following text: /** * [cursor] * @param unknown_type $a * @param unknown_type $b */ However, I want to customize this so that it also includes @return void automatically since there's no return inside the function. Is there a way to do this? And what about things like @access? It's obviously "public". Another thing I want is that when I create a new file and I use the code templates with ${user}, it will use my Windows account, but I want it to use something else - is there a way to specify this "user"?

• SCCM Client Push FAIL - Win2000 box

  When trying to install the SCCM client onto a Windows 2000 box, the install fails. The install script is run through a batch file (CONTENTS: \mdop\SCCM_client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:MDOP /logon smssitecode=MID smsslp=MDOP) hosted on a public area of the network. This script has worked for all machines (mostly Win2003 Server). I've tried enabling all the common services it requires (BITS, IIS Admin, Windows Installer), but it still only runs for a second or two then quits. • Cannot connect to domain despite successful pings

  Pings to my domain name work, but I can't connect via http. I've been trying various methods for a week now, but haven't come up with anything that worked. • Combine multiple network interfaces to connect to a dedicated server

  this is an underpaid employee writing, who's apparently responsible for all the IT stuff in a very small (non-IT) company. Today said company got a bunch of PCs/workstations, a switch, a computer that's supposed to be used as a router, two DSL connections (each 16 MBit/s downstream and 1 MBit/s upstream) and a dedicated server which is hosted and managed professionally by a larger local company with some decent connection speed (1 GBit/s both directions if I'm not mistaken). This is what I've set up (note I'm not making use of the second DSL connection at all)... ETH0 ETH1 [ SWITCH ]---[LINUX DEBIAN ROUTER]---[DSL MODEM 1]---[INTERNET] | | | PC1 | | PC2 | ... ... when my boss asked me, if it was somehow possible to get 32 MBit/s downstream and 2 MBit/s upstream. At that time I replied "no" without thinking too much about it. Now I've just had the following idea... ETH1 ETH0 ETH0 ,---[DSL MODEM 1 (NON-STATIC IP)]---, ,---, ETH0 [ SWITCH ]---[LINUX DEBIAN ROUTER] [INTERNET] [LINUX DEBIAN SERVER]---[INTERNET] | | | '---[ DSL MODEM 2 (STATIC IP) ]---' '---' PC1 | | ETH2 ETH0 PC2 | ... ... but I have absolutely no clue how to implement that. Would that even be possible? What would the masquerading rules look like on the router? What about the server?   I have a Windows XP machine where I have installed WAMP and made a PHP based web application. I can access the web application from within this machine by using the browser and pointing to: http://localhost/myApp/ --- and the page loads fine. Now I want this site (http://localhost/myApp) to be accessible to all machines within the network (and may be later, to the general public as well). I am quite new to this, how do I make my site accessible to all machines within the network and to the general public in the internet? I tried modifying the httpd.conf file in Apache (WAMP) by changing Listen 80 to Listen 10.10.10.10:80 (where I replaced 10.10.10.10 with the actual IP of this windows xp machine). I also tried "Put Online" feature in WAMP. None seem to work though. How do I make it accessible?

And I want to make a small private server which can be accessible across whole web. So my home router shows me IP 10.x.x.x and actually my public IP is 89.x.x.x. Is there any way to reach the IP 10.x.x.x from the Internet? Yeah I thought the same about IPv6 but it's still not accessible for me ;[

WCF Services (IIS7) <--> ASP.NET MVC Application <--> Client Browser The services are username authenticated, the account that a client (of my web application) uses to logon ends up as the current principal on the host. I want one of the services to be authenticated differently, because it serves the view model for my logon view. When it's called, the client is obviously not logged on yet. I figure Windows authentication serves best or perhaps just certificate based security (which in fact I should use for the authenticated services as well) if the services are hosted on a machine that is not in the same domain as the web application. That's not the point here though. Using multiple TCP bindings is what's giving me trouble. When I remove either of them, all's fine but together they produce the following exception on the client: The requested upgrade is not supported by 'net.tcp://localhost:8081/Service2.svc'. This could be due to mismatched bindings (for example security enabled on the client and not on the server). In the server trace log, I find the following exception: Protocol Type application/negotiate was sent to a service that does not support that type of upgrade. Am I looking into the right direction or is there a better way to solve this?

• Combined SOAP/JSON/XML in WCF, using UriTemplate

  I'm trying to build a generic web service interface using WCF, to allow 3rd party developers to hook into our software. After much struggling and reading (this question helped a lot), I finally got SOAP, JSON and XML (POX) working together. The part I'd like to fix is the queries. I have to use TestService.svc/xml/GetDateOffset?numDays=4 instead of TestService.svc/xml/GetDateOffset/4. If I specify the UriTemplate, I get the error: Endpoints using 'UriTemplate' cannot be used with 'System.ServiceModel.Description.WebScriptEnablingBehavior'. But of course without using <enableWebScript/>, JSON doesn't work. The only other thing I've seen that I think will work is making 3 different services (.svc files), that all implement an interface that specifies the contract, but in the classes specify different WebGet/WebInvoke attributes on each class. This seems like a lot of extra work, that frankly, I don't see why the framework doesn't handle for me. The implementation of the classes would all be the same, except for the attributes, which means over time it would be easy for bugs/changes to get fixed/done in one implementation but not the others, leading to inconsistent behaviour when using the JSON vs SOAP implementation for example. Am I doing something wrong here? Am I taking a totally wrong approach and misusing WCF? Is there a better way to do this? With my experience doing web stuff, I think it should be possible for some kind of framework to handle this ... I even have an idea in my head of how to build it. It just seems like WCF is supposed to be doing this, and I don't really want to reinvent the wheel.

• ASP.NET MVC2 Model Validation Fails with Non-US Date Format

  I have a small MVC2 app that displays in two cultures: en-US and es-MX. One portion contains a user input for a date that is pre-populated with the current date in the Model. When using en-US, the date field is displayed as MM/dd/yyyy and can be changed using the same format without causing any validation errors. When using es-MX, the date field is displayed as dd/MM/yyyy, but when the date is edited in this format, the server-side validation fails with the message: The value '17/05/1991' is not valid for The Date. One of the first things that jumps out at me about that message is that it is not localized. Both the message itself (which I do not think I can control) and the Display Name of the field (which I can control and is localized in my code). Should be displaying in a localized format. I have tried stepping through the code to see exactly where the validation is failing, but it seems to be happening inside some of the compiled MVC or DataAnnotations code that I cannot see.   I have enterprise aplication with ejb and war module, and since I created local interface web module wont deploy. It builds fine. EJB project is referenced inside web project. Also when I delete <ejb-local-ref> from web.xml it deploys, but then lookup method fails. • Drawing a WPF UserControl with DataBinding to an Image

  Hey Everyone, So I'm trying to use a WPF User Control to generate a ton of images from a dataset where each item in the dataset would produce an image... I'm hoping I can set it up in such a way that I can use WPF databinding, and for each item in the dataset, create an instance of my user control, set the dependency property that corresponds to my data item, and then draw the user control to an image, but I'm having problems getting it all working (not sure whether databinding or drawing to the image is my problem) Sorry for the massive code dump, but I've been trying to get this working for a couple of hours now, and WPF just doesn't like me (have to learn at some point though...) EDIT 2: Did something I should have done a long time ago, set a background on my canvas, but that didn't change the output image at all, so my problem is most definitely somehow to do with my drawing code (although there may be something wrong with my databinding too)

• ASP.net FFMPEG video conversion receiving error: "Error number -2 occurred"

  Hello, I am attempting to integrate FFMPEG into my asp.net website. The process I am trying to complete is to upload a video, check if it is .avi, .mov, or .wmv and then convert this video into an mp4 using x264 so my flash player can play it. I am using an http handler (ashx) file to handle my upload. This is where I am also putting my conversion code. I am not sure if this is the best place to put it, but I wanted to see if i could at least get it working. Additionally, I was able to complete the conversion manually through cmd line. The error -2 comes up when i output the standard error from the process I executed. • Using MigLayout, why is a JButton following a JTable unresponsive and how to fix this?

  Hi everyone, I am having a mind-boggling problem regarding the use of a JButton following a JTable with MigLayout. It is totally unresponsive unless I push it far enough past the JTable (then it can behave correctly). I have tried running the code with both the MigLayout JAR of the version we use for end user products and with the very most recent one; same result. As I said, if I push the button far enough past the JTable, it will work again. If I drop it on the next row, it doesn't work, I have to move it down one more row.
