    I've recently found this blog entry on a tool that writes XSS attacks directly to the database. It looks like a terribly good way to scan an application for weaknesses in my applications. I've tried to run it on Mono, since my development platform is Linux. Unfortunately it crashes with a System.ArgumentNullException deep inside Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary and I seem to be unable to find sufficient information about the software (it seems to be a single-shot project, with no homepage and no further development). Is anyone aware of a similar tool? Preferably it should be: cross-platform (Java, Python, .NET/Mono, even cross-platform C is ok) open source (I really like being able to audit my security tools) able to talk to a wide range of DB products (the big ones are most important: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ...)

    I am looking for the best solution to allow text to wrap in the middle of a word if necessary. By best, I mean most browser-compatible, and will favor word breaks before it breaks inside a word. It would also help if the markup looked nicer than mine (see my answer). Edit: Note this is specifically for user-generated content.     I've a code to sort table using Jquery.I use toggle function to alternate clicks,and toggle beetween 'ascend' and 'descend' sort.Once you click header's table it should sort it contents. However,there's a bug: I click once,it sorts,then when i click again,nothing happens.I need to click again (second time) to execute the second function,and sort again. Toggle should switch functions with single clicks,not double,am i right?   • Set a script to automatically detect character encoding in a plain-text-file in Python?

    I've set up a script that basically does a large-scale find-and-replace on a plain text document. At the moment it works fine with ASCII, UTF-8, and UTF-16 (and possibly others, but I've only tested these three) encoded documents so long as the encoding is specified inside the script (the example code below specifies UTF-16).     With the following bit of code: $builder = ORM::factory('branch')->where('institution_id', $this->institution->id)->orderby('name'); I need to first execute: $count = $builder->count_all(); Then I need to execute: $rs = $builder->find_all($limit, $offset); However, it appears that when I execute the first query the stored query parameters are cleared so that a fresh query can be executed. Is there a way to avoid having the parameters cleared or at least copy them easily without having to reach directly into the Database driver object that stores the query parameters and copy them out? We are using Kohana 2.3.4 and upgrading is not an option.

    I am feeding the label to my LinkButton directly from a string I receive from a Google API that puts html to format the label. I want to extend linkbutton to allow this. I wrote a class myself to allow html text for the label and that aspect of it works but now the background that appears when you hover is way too big.     I gave my mysql user the "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON database_name.* to my_user@localhost" treatment. Now I would like to be more granular, starting with lowering privileges on a specific table. I am hoping mysql has or can be set to follow a "least amount of privileges" policy, so I can keep the current setup and lower it for the one table. But I have not seen anything like this in the docs or online. Other than removing the DB level grant and re-granting on a table level, is there a way to get the same result by adding another rule?

    I am using an application that requires several attempts to log in (because of overloaded servers). This app has no "remember my password" feature. Therefore, I would like to make a script (preferably a .bat script), that would first copy my password into the clipboard -so that I don't have to retype my password on every log on attempt- , then launch the application (easy part) Is this possible with a MS-DOS command ?     The location text from Twitter could be just about anything. Sometimes Twitter clients set the location with the user's latitude and longitude in the following format. "\U00dcT: 43.05948,-87.908409" Since there is no built-in support for Regular Expressions in Objective-C I am considering using the NSString functions like rangeOfString to pull the float values out of this string. For my current purpose I know the values with start with 43 and 87 so I can key off those values this time but I would prefer to do better than that. What would you do to parse the latitude/longitude from this string?

    What is a good tool to see the differences between 2 tables (or even better, the datasets returned by 2 queries). EDIT: I'm not interested in the schema changes. Just assume that the schemas are the same. background as to why: I'm porting some legacy code which can fill a database with some pre-calced data. The easiest way to see if I got everything right, is to check the output of the old program, with the new one. I was thinking that if there is some kind of 'diff' tool for databases, this might be great.

  • Is it dangerous to store user-enterable text into a hidden form via javascript?

    In my asp.net MVC application I am using in place editors to allow users to edit fields without having a standard form view. Unfortunately, since I am using Linq to Sql combined with my data mapping layer I cannot just update one field at a time and instead need to send all fields over at once. So the solution I came up with was to store all my model fields into hidden fields, and provide span tags that contain the visible data (these span tags become editable due to my jquery plugin). When a user triggers a save of their edits of a field, jquery then takes their value and places it in the hidden form, and sends the whole form to the server to commit via ajax. When the data goes into the hidden field originally (page load) and into the span tags the data is properly encoded, but upon the user changing the data in the contenteditable span field, I just run $("#hiddenfield").val($("#spanfield").html(); Am I opening any holes this method? Obviously the server also properly encodes stuff prior to database entry.

    Hi, I'm building a C# client app that allows a user to communicate with one or more existing users in a system via an email-like metaphor. I'd like to present the user with a text entry box that auto-completes on known email addresses, and allows multiple delimiter-separated addresses to be entered. Ideally, I'd also like the email addresses to turn into structured controls once they've been entered and recognized. Basically, I'm modeling the UI interaction for adding users after Facebook's model. Are there any Windows Forms controls out there with the ability to do something like this? (It Should Look Something Like "SELECT District FROM City WHERE Name='Simi Valley';") I already realize that in this simplistic case it would be very easy to simply reconstruct the query... but how can I access it in a general way that will work for very complicated prepared statements, and cases where I don't necessarily already understand the intended structure of the query, etc. Isn't there some function or method that can be called on the statement object that will return the actual text of the SQL query, after binding?

    I get this from my backup software. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\dhcp.mdb : The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\j50.log : The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\j50tmp.log : The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\tmp.edb : The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. My questions: Should I be doing a manual backup of DHCP via command line tools or maybe with MMC, Action, Backup before I run my backup? Is the %SystemRoot%\System32\DHCP\Backup directory always kept up to date? (which does get backed up by backup software) I'm answering my own question but the registry key is set up for 3c, 60 minutes, I believe. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Parameters\BackupInterva This is not the included backup software for Windows. It is another product, but I have seen this with every backup software I've ever used.
