• Robocopy failure with Windows Server 2008 Scheduled Task

  So I have a batch script for robocopy. Running this from the command line does exactly what I want. robocopy "D:\SQL Backup" \\server1\Backup$\daily /mir /s /copyall /log:\\lmcrfs4g\NavBackup$\robocopyLog.txt /np Then I create a Scheduled Task in Windows Server 2008. If I set up the task to use my Domain Admin account, great. But I'm trying to get it to run as a separate domain account for Scheduled Tasks. If I use that account, folders get created, but files aren't copied. I get the following error: 2011/02/17 15:41:48 ERROR 1307 (0x0000051B) Copying NTFS Security to Destination Directory D:\SQL Backup\folder\ This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object. I've verified my domain\Scheduled Tasks account has Full Control NTFS permissions on both the source and destination, and the Full Control Sharing on my hidden \server1\backup$ share. Just for giggles, I've tried adding the domain account to the local Administrators group on both servers. This works fine, but that seems like a lot of privileges just to copy files. Any ideas on what I'm missing?

• DEB: "Provides:" field ignored

  I need to replace a package with a custom one, which gets its own name (foo-origpackage). To allow it to be used as drop-in replacement, I added the Provides: origpackage line to the control file. apt-cache show foo-origpackage lists the "Provides" entry just fine. However, when I want to install a file depending on origpackage, it fails ("Package origpackage not installed"). Is there some distinction between "real" and virtual packages I'm missing? EDIT: To be precise, what I want to replace is xen-utils-common for Squeeze. • Abnormally high amount of Transmit discards reported by Solarwinds for multiple switches

  I have several 3750X Cisco switches that, according to our Solarwinds NPM, are producing billions of transmit discards per day. I'm not sure why it's reporting these discards. Many of the ports on the 3750X's have 2960's connected to them and are hardcoded as trunk ports. • Kernel upgrade CentOS 5.3 mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

  We have a CentOS 5.3 x64 server that by default runs kernel version 2.6.18-164.11.1 and we are attempting to upgrade the box to 2.6.31.12 The drive is LVM +ext3, and the problem I'm having is when I upgrade the kernel and attempt to boot from it, no matter what version of the kernel I use, I get /dev/root not found towards the end of the boot process, and the kernel panics, and than reboots. I'm installing the kernel exactly as it says in this doc. I've tried it "The centOS way " using make rpm and than installing that. I've updated my mkinitrd. The most interesting part of this problem is that it has been so frustrating that I decided to try and clean install centos on an identical machine without LVM, and the result is EXACTLY the same. After upgrading the kernel, I get /dev/root not found. Does anyone know how to fix this, or what information would be relevant to remedy it? I'm open to try anything at this point. One more interesting thing about this problem is that in the new version of the kernel, during boot it complains that dm-mapper is started twice, than panics right after that. I've tried this with other kernel versions, and the result is the same. What am I missing here? If you need any more files, please just ask. • IIS FTP 7.5 Data Channel Problem (SSL)

  Hey there I wonder if anyone can get me in the right direction. I am setting up both a FTPS Client and Server, FTPS Server using Microsoft’s iis FTP 7.5. On the client side it will be running on Linux and I am using M2crypto for the openssl wrapping (python). I am worried the problem is on the server side (iis7.5) due to the following discovery : If I host using Filezilla with BOTH the control and data channel being forced to be encrypted it works 100% (100% file transmission), if i use iis as the server everything works up to the point when the data channel takes over... i.e. all data of the retrieved file is already received correctly in my basket! The ftp server just won't send the final '226 Transfer complete.' on the cmd socket. Why? If i force the client or server to close the connection the file is 100% intact....If i use iis 7.5 with forced encryption on control channel all works 100% as long as i don’t force data channel... Here are some screenshots to demo this... If we terminate the client, the uploaded file on the server suddenly jumps up to full size.

  I have a server that runs JBoss. When I type bad URL to that server it gives me version like this: JBossWeb/2.0.1.GA - what version of JBoss that would be? A SSL certificate will be bought and provided for me so that I could install it in JBoss. I would really appreciate any HOWTO or any information how to install ready SSL certificate on JBoss. Do I need to generate any files with openssl, when this SSL certificate will be bought from some other company that sells SSL certificates? Thanks in advance for any help.

• How to "host' an application on one mac and run it on another

  I recently replaced my mac computer and would like to know if it is possible to run software on that computer that actually runs on another computer. My problem is that I use a terminal emulator that speaks SCO-ANSI on my old computer, but it is not compatible with the new version of OS X. I don't want to pay the exorbitant ($200+) licensing fee to get a current version of the software, so I'd like to know if it's possible to run the emulator on the old computer and just "stream" its window somehow to my new Mac computer. • Is Sql Server 2008 R2 unsupported by Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 R2?

  Hey all, I'm performing a test configuration of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, on a system prepared with Sql Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately, the Scom 2007 R2 prerequisites verification program seems to be detecting exact versions of Sql Server, and not simply a minimum version, like it claims: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 requires SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP1 and above or SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition with SP1 and above. Note: Operations Manager 2007 R2 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse or Audit Collection database on a 64-bit operating system." I had hoped that this was just a helper tool that was assisting in getting me off the ground, but unfortunately it seems as if it's actually used as a gate for the installation to proceed. Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to fool the installer into thinking that it has a proper version, or otherwise alert it to my valid configuration?

  I have a product and we are running a campaign for it to allow users to download a trial version. My questions is there any way to detect multiple downloads from the same computer but behind a proxy. For example if a person uses a proxy server, changes his/her ip and downloads our trial version multiple times from different Ip's, is there a way to detect that it is the same person who's downloading the s/w. We use only Name and Email addresses to be entered before downloading our s/w and that can easily be created. We cannot add any other fields to the form (like phoneno.)

• How to create an EFI System Partition?

  TL; DR How do I create an EFI system partition from scratch? How do I put the EFI firmware on it onces it is created? Long version I hava Toshiba T430 laptop. I received it with Windows 7 installed (but I think originally it has shipped with Windows 8). I installed Ubuntu on it, but deleted some partitions on the disk so that I ended up wiping out the Windows and only having Ubuntu. Among the deleted partitions was the EFI System partition. I discovered that Ubuntu now boots in Legacy mode (and not UEFI). I am trying to follow this guide on converting my Ubuntu installation from Legacy to UEFI. The problem - since there is no EFI partition whenever I choose from BIOS to boot using UEFI I cannot boot. That counts not only for the harddrive, but usb and DVD as well. I think this is logical - it expects an EFI partition and since it can't find it, it cannot continue booting futher, be it from HDD or DVD. So how do I recreate the EFI partition? The guide above says: Creating an EFI partition If you are manually partitioning your disk in the Ubuntu installer, you need to make sure you have an EFI partition set up. If your disk already contains an EFI partition (eg if your computer had Windows8 preinstalled), it can be used for Ubuntu too. Do not format it. It is strongly recommended to have only 1 EFI partition per disk. An EFI partition can be created via a recent version of GParted (the Gparted version included in the 12.04 disk is OK), and must have the following attributes: Mount point: /boot/efi (remark: no need to set this mount point when using the manual partitioning, the Ubuntu installer will detect it automatically) Size: minimum 100Mib. 200MiB recommended. Type: FAT32 Other: needs a "boot" flag. I had some trouble creating this partition: I boot from a live Ubuntu DVD, open GParted, create a 200MB partition and format it to FAT32. In GParted I cannot set the mount point and thus cannot set the bootflag. I didn't set the mount point in /etc/fstab since it's a live CD and fstab looked quite differently from what I expected compared to a normal boot. Anyway, I just didn't know what values to set. I booted again via the live DVD and then chose to install Ubuntu. I then created a partition with the mentioned criteria - mount point, 200MB, FAT32, boot flag. However, I continue to have this problem and I suppose it's because on that partition there is no EFI firmware, it's just an empty partition, which is suitable to have EFI firmware. So again, how do I create an EFI partition, which has the EFI software, so that the laptop can once again boot in UEFI mode?

• Why does Komodo edit not open files on doubleclick due to some path encoding error?

  When I double click a file in finder to open in Komodo edit, it displays an error message saying it can't find the file and the path is displayed, but with wrong encoding, such that special characters such as "ó" and "ð" are displayed as some weird boxes. Screenshot: http://i51.tinypic.com/2qkleg4.jpg I'm running OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Komodo Edit version 5: "Komodo Edit, version 5.2.4, build 4343, platform macosx-x86. Built on Tue Dec 8 18:18:35 2009." When I drag the file into Komodo edit it opens just fine displaying the path correctly with "ó"s and all :P This doesn't happen if I right click the file in finder and select to open it with TextEdit or Word or (God forbid) MacVim - only when I select to open it in Komodo edit. This is annoying as all hell.

It has a DFI CM33-TL/G ATX (identified using SiSoft Sandra) motherboard hosting an Intel Celeron 1.3GHz CPU, 768Mb PC133 SDRAM, a D-LINK WDA-2320 54G Wi-Fi network card and a generic USB 2.0 expansion board based on the NEC uPD720102 chipset containing 3 external and 1 internal USB sockets. It's also hosting a 1.44Mb floppy drive on FDD0, a new 80Gb Western Digital hard drive running as master on IDE0 and a Panasonic DVD+/-RW running as master on IDE1. All this is sitting in a slimline case running off a Macron Power MPT-135 135W Flex power supply. The motherboard is running a version of Award BIOS 05/24/2002-601T-686B-6A6LID4AC-00. Could this be updated? If so, from where? I've raked through the manufacturer's website but can't find any hint of downloads for either drivers or BIOS updates. The hard disk is freshly formatted and built with Windows XP Professional/Service Pack 3 and is up to date with all current patches. In addition to Windows XP, the only other software it's running is Skype 4.1 (4.2 hangs the whole machine as soon as it starts up, requiring a hard boot to recover). It's got a Daytek MV150 15" touch screen hooked up to the on board VGA and COM1 sockets with the most current drivers from the Daytek website and the most current version of ELO-Touchsystems drivers for the touch component. The webcam is a Logitech Webcam C200 with the latest drivers from the Logitech website. The problem: If I hook any devices to the USB 2.0 sockets, it hangs the whole machine and I have to hard boot it to get it back up. If I have any devices attached to the USB 2.0 sockets when I boot up, it hangs before Windows gets to the login prompt and I have to hard boot it to recover. Workarounds found: I can plug the same devices into the on board USB 1.0 sockets and everything works fine, albeit at reduced performance. I've tried 3 different kinds of USB thumb drives, 3 different makes/models of webcams and my iPhone all with the same effect. They're recognized and don't hang the machine when I hook them to the USB 1.0 but if I hook them to the USB 2.0 ports, the machine hangs within a couple of seconds of recognizing the devices were connected. Attempted solutions: I've seen suggestions that this could be a power problem - that the PSU just doesn't have the wattage to drive these ports. While I'm doubtful this is the problem [after all the motherboard has the same standard connector regardless of the PSU wattage], I tried disabling all the on board devices that I'm not using - on board LAN, the second COM port, the AGP connector etc. through the BIOS in what I'm sure is a futile attempt to reduce the power consumption... I also modified the ACPI and power management settings. It didn't have any noticeable affect, although it didn't do any harm either. Could the wattage of the PSU really cause this problem? If it can, is there anything I need to be aware of when replacing it or do I just need to make sure it's got a higher wattage than the current one? My interpretation was that the wattage only affected the number of drives you could hook up to the power connectors, is that right? I've installed the USB card in another machine and it works without issue, so it's not a problem with the USB card itself, and Windows says the card is installed and working correctly... right up until I connect a device to it. The only thing I haven't done which I only just thought of while writing this essay is trying the USB 2.0 card in a different PCI slot, or re-ordering the wi-fi and USB cards in the slots... although I'm not sure if this will make any difference - does anyone have any experience that would suggest this might work? Other thoughts/questions: Perhaps this is an incompatibility between the USB 2.0 card and the BIOS, would re-flashing the BIOS with a newer version help? Do I need to be able to identify the manufacturer of the motherboard in order to be able to find a BIOS edition specific for this motherboard or will any version of Award BIOS function in its place? Question: Does anyone have any ideas that could help me get my USB 2.0 devices hooked up to this machine?

This is all great if you're running nothing besides Firefox, but when you're running half a dozen apps at the same time and they all assume that they can take a decent chunk of mem it just kills the box. It actually runs smooth and takes less memory (including Windows) to run than having Firefox (or Chrome for that matter) run standalone. Install the 32 bit version of Firefox By installing the 32 bit version of firefox (apt-get install firefox:i386) the base memory usage is only about 50% of what it is with the 64 bit.

• Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

  At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did. • What PHP, Xdebug and Eclipse configurations work on Windows 7 64 bit?

  I have been mucking around for days, trying to find the right combination that lets me debug with breakpoints and variable viewing, in Eclipse, without crashing Apache. PHP 5.3? PHP 5.2? Eclipse Helios? Eclipse Galileo? One or the other with certain versions of xdebug or php? Or do I really need to use NetBeans or something else? Is my 64 bit OS the problem? Do need specific 64bit versions of PHP, Eclipse or Xdebug to work on Windows 7 64? Any special xdebug config options and tricks that I need in php.ini? Like turning off xdebug.profiler_enable or not using quotes around my zend_extension path to the xdebug dll? A Vhosts issue? Scrap the whole thing and go back to Win XP or Ubuntu? • Email server can send internal, but messages never arrive at external recipients

  I'm running MailEnable on my server, and have been for many years. Recently we had an attack on our server, and I was able to close the hole. Since then, our mail server doesn't seem to be sending mail out. If I send an email from myself to another account hosted on the server, the email arrives as expected. If I send an email from my gmail account to my business account, the email also arrives as expected The problem comes when I send from my business account to an external domain I tried the following Gmail.com Hotmail.com Shaw.ca When I send to any of the above The message leaves my client as expected, The logs appear to accept and forward on the message The SMTP outbound que is empty The message never arrives I have checked our domain with mxtoolbox.com senderbase.org And neither of them are reporting any problems with our domain. • Why does the Java VM process eat up more RAM then specified in -Xmx parameter?

  I have multiple servers running CentOS 5.4 and only one application running on Java VM. I've configured the Java VM with the following arguments: java -Xmx4500M -server -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:NewSize=1024m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true The machines I'm running the VM on has 6 GB RAM and no other applications running. After a while, the java process starts to hit the swap space really hard, I get this info out of the top command: 7658 root 25 0 11.7g 3.9g 4796 S 39.4 67.3 543:54.17 java On the other hand, if I connect via JConsole, it reports the Java VM has 2.6 GB used, 4.6 GB commited and 4.6 Gb max. java -version returns: java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode) Why is the Java VM expanding so much past it's allocated heap size? And where does that memory go, if it's not reported in JConsole?

• Using a Raspberry Pi as a VPN?

I was looking at messing around with Model B, which has the following relevant specs: Broadcom BCM2835 700MHz ARM1176JZFS processor with FPU and Videocore 4 GPU 256MB RAM Boots from SD card, running the Fedora version of Linux (ARM Version) 10/100 BaseT Ethernet socket USB 2.0 socket So I was curious if it would be possible to create a simple VPN out of this little machine. I do realize that since it's an ARM processor that might mess up quite a few things. Any ideas if this is possible? Just for what it's worth, this would be a personal project so I'm not worried about performance.

• Disable XP disk check using FAT32

  Right now I'm using Windows XP and Macintosh on my MacBook Pro via Bootcamp. Sometimes my XP would crash and when I restarted it it would have to go through disk check, although it says I can skip it by pushing a key, but this never worked for me. I did a bit of research online on how to disable disk check and found chkntfs /x c: but when I tried this out in my cmd it said the disk is FAT32 format. I tried to convert my C: drive from FAT32 to NTFS by using convert c: /FS:NTFS but when I tried this it told me to locate my C: drive. I tried to type C: and Bootcamp but couldn't really get past it. • Where is the central ZFS website now?

  Oracle dumped OpenSolaris in Fall 2010, and it is unclear if Oracle will continue to publicly release updates to ZFS, except maybe after they release their next major version of Solaris. FreeBSD now has ZFS v28 available for testing. But where did v28 come from? I notice that the main ZFS website does not show version 28 available. Has this website been abandoned? If so, where is the central website for the ZFS project, so that I can browse the repo, read the mailing lists, read the release notes, etc. (I realize that OpenSolaris has been dumped by Oracle, and that they are limiting their ZFS releases to the community).

• GoogleTest C++ Framework Incompatible With XCode 4.5.2 and OSX 10.8.2

  I am trying to follow the instructions mentioned here for setting up Google's C++ framework in XCode Version 4.5.2 (4G2008a). First, I got "The run destination My Mac 64-bit is not valid for Running the scheme 'gtest-framework'". I was able to change the build SDK following the instructions here Unable to build using Xcode 4 - The selected run destination is not valid for this action, except this resulted in many build failures such as "Unsupported compiler '4.0' selected for architecture 'x86_64'" and "Unsupported compiler '4.0' selected for architecture 'i386'" I've changed nothing out of the box, so this is very frustrating that I cannot seem to get this to build.
