• Problem with impersonating a specific user in WCF service

  I am having a WCF service hosted in IIS on WindowsServer 2008. This service needs to write to a shared folder present on another machine(Windows XP). The shared folder has write permissions for a particular user say "X" which is present on both the machines .i.e on the server where the service is running as well as the machine where the shared folder is present. The service runs under the NETWORK SERVICE account. For the service to access the shared folder I have added code to impersonate the user "X"in the service so that it gets the permission to write to the shared folder. Since I want to impersonate user "X" only when I run a particular section of code I have used the sample code. Even after the impersonation the service fails to write to the shared folder sometimes. It works sporadically. Whereas if I add tag in the Web.config file it works perfectly fine. <identity impersonate="true" userName="accountname" password="password" /> But the above is not desirable since it impersonates a specific user for all the requests. What I need is to impersonate a specific user only when I run a particular section of code. Also, the impersonation code works absolutely fine when the shared folder is present on another WindowsServer 2008. Could anyone give me ideas on what's going wrong here.

  I have the C# Dll (ABService) deployed in COM + and my os Is windows 2008. I have given the strong name for this dll and its dependent dll’s When I access the method of this dll through localhost or if I add the reference to the client project the method are executed successfully. Simply if I access the dll from the same machine with the reference it is working. So I think there is no problem with the way I deployed in the COM +.   I am validating constructor and method arguments, as I want to the software, especially the model part of it, to fail fast. As a result, constructor code often looks like this public MyModelClass(String arg1, String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { if(arg1 == null) { throw new IllegalArgumentsException("arg1 must not be null"); } // further validation of constraints... // actual constructor code... } Is there a way to do that with an annotation driven approach? Something like: public MyModelClass(@NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class, message="arg1 must not be null") String arg1, @NotNull(raise=IllegalArgumentException.class) String arg2, OtherModelClass otherModelInstance) { // actual constructor code... } In my eyes this would make the actual code a lot more readable. • How can I create a simple message box in Python?

  I'm looking for the same effect as alert() in JavaScript. I wrote a simple web-based interpreter this afternoon using Twisted.web. You basically submit a block of Python code through a form, and the client comes and grabs it and executes it. I want to be able to make a simple popup message, without having to re-write a whole bunch of boilerplate wxPython or TkInter code every time (since the code gets submitted through a form and then disappears). I've tried tkMessageBox: import tkMessageBox tkMessageBox.showinfo(title="Greetings", message="Hello World!") but this opens another window in the background with a tk icon. I don't want this. I was looking for some simple wxPython code but it always required setting up a class and entering an app loop etc. Is there no simple, catch-free way of making a message box in Python?

• Advice on whether to use native C++ DLL or not: PINVOKE & Marshaling ?

  What's the best way to do this....? I have some Native C++ code that uses a lot of Win32 calls together with byte buffers (allocated using HeapAlloc). I'd like to extend the code and make a C# GUI...and maybe later use a basic Win32 GUI (for use where there is no .Net and limited MFC support). (A) I could just re-write the code in C# and use multiple PINVOKEs....but even with the PINVOKES in a separate class, the code looks messy with all the marshaling. I'm also re-writing a lot of code. (B) I could create a native C++ DLL and use PINVOKE to marshal in the native data structures. I'm assuming I can include the native C++ DLL/LIB in a project using C#? (C) Create a mixed mode DLL (Native C++ class plus managed ref class). I'm assuming that this would make it easier to use the managed ref class in C#......but is this the case? Will the managed class handle all the marshaling? Can I use this mixed mode DLL on a platform with no .Net (i.e. still access the native C++ unmanaged component) or do I limit myself to .Net only platforms. One thing that bothers me about each of these options is all the marshalling. Is it better to create a managed data structure (array, string etc.) and pass that to the native C++ class, or, the other way around? Any ideas on what would be considered best practice...?

• How to handle splitting a file under source control?

  I have a .cpp file and .h file containing a class. Class.cpp contains the implementation and Class.h contains the definition. The class is overcomplicated so I want to separate some code and move it into a separate class. So I create NewClass.cpp and NewClass.h and move the code there. How do I handle this when the files are under SVN? I can simply "svn add" the two new files, but then they will appear as new and will have no history. I could instead "svn copy and rename" the two initial files and edit the the two old files and the two new files - then the two new files will have common history. Which approach is better from the point of version control? Should the new files share history with the old files or should they appear as new?

  I've got some code executing in a while(fscanf != EOF) loop. However, even when fscanf has finished executing, I need to keep running that code until some conditions are met. I mean I guess I could copy/paste the code to outside the while(fscanf) loop, and only use global variables, but that seems messy. Surely someone has encountered something like this before and has a cleaner solution.

  I've tried to simplify for the purposes of asking this question. Hopefully, this will be comprehensible. Basically, I have a fact table with a time dimension, another dimension, and a hierarchical dimension. For the purposes of the question, let's assume the hierarchical dimension is zip code and state. The other dimension is just descriptive. Let's call it 'customer' Let's assume there are 50 customers. I need to find the set of states for which there is at least one zip code in which EVERY customer has at least one fact row for each day in the time dimension. If a zip code has only 49 customers, I don't care about it. If even one of the 50 customers doesn't have a value for even 1 day in a zip code, I don't care about it. Finally, I also need to know which zip codes qualified the state for selection. Note, there is no requirement that every zip code have a full data set - only that at least one zip code does. I don't mind making multiple queries and doing some processing on the client side. This is a dataset that only needs to be generated once per day and can be cached. I don't even see a particularly clean way to do it with multiple queries short of simply brute-force iteration, and there are a heck of a lot of 'zip codes' in the data set (not actually zip codes, but the there are approximately 100,000 entries in the lower level of the hierarchy and several hundred in the top level, so zipcode-state is a reasonable analogy)

  I'm trying to extract the postal codes from yell.com using php and preg_replace. I successfully extracted the postal code but only along with the address. But there are severe problems: If every line of code the user enters is handled as a standalone program, it has to go through the tokenizer and parser and is then just executed by the interpreter - what about functions then? How can the Python/Ruby interactive consoles (IDLE, irb) "share" the code? How is the code entered handled? Example: >> def x: >> print("Blah") >> >> x() Where is the function stored so it can be called at any time again? How can the interactive console take everything entered as obviously one program without executing everything over and over again?

• Problem: connecting to drupal on hostgator without pointed domain.

  I need to connect to drupal on a website that I'm programming on a hostgator account. The website that I'm working on currently receives a lot of traffic, and I would like to make sure that it is fully functional before I launch the new website. The old website was programmed with .asp which hostgator doesn't support, and the old webhost doesn't support drupal or .php which are integral to the new web design. Drupal 6 has been freshly installed on my website, but when I try to login, it redirects me to http://gator83.hostgator.com/?q=node&destination=node instead of the drupal control panel. Is it possible to work around this? Thank you in advance.
