  • can't connect 2 subnets through RRAS 2008 r2

    I'm working on a project for a networking class. In VMWare Workstation, I have to set up a 2008 r2 server with DHCP reservations for 2 clients on separate subnets and have them ping each other. For example Client A can ping the NIC at 10.0.0.2 and vice-versa, but it gets a general transmit failure when it tries to ping the card at 223.6.6.2, let alone trying to ping the other client. I have completely disabled the firewalls on all machines and anything else I could think of, without success. What am I missing? Edit: Since posting this, I also noticed that the default gateways on my 2 NICs keep getting zeroed out. Does anyone know a fix for this?

    I have been succesfully using the command line database deployment tool VSDBCMD on my dev and test environments but the tool fails in our integration environmrnt. I am using the VS 2010 version of the tool. The servers have all of the prerequisites including: .net 4.0 sql server compact edition 3.5 sp1 (as well as the full edition of 2008) sql server 2008 server management objects sql server 2008 native client sql server system clr types msxml 6 all of the dependent DLLs included in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\desktop*.dll C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5*.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VSTSDB\Deploy**. The only reference to this error that I have been able to find has to do with a bug in the VS 2008 edition when the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0 key is missing. In my case the 10.0 version of the key exists. Has anyone else encountered this?

The server is S1 and the client is C1. section: aliases C1.wcu.edu: C1 end section: links S1: right = C1.wcu.edu C1.wcu.edu: left = S1 end When I start Synergy on both machines, the connection is made but I get the subject WARNING message on the server constantly. On the client, I get the three messages below. ERROR: server refused client with name "localhost.local" WARNING: failed to connect to server: server refused client with our name NOTE: connecting to 'S1.wcu.edu': XXX.XXX.XXX.73:24800 Any idea why I am getting these messages?   • Task Scheduler Cannot Apply My Changes - Adding a User with Permissions

    I can log in to the server using a domain account without administrator privileges and create a task in the Task Scheduler. I am allowed to do an initial save of the task but unable to modify it with the same user account. When changes are complete, a message box prompts for the user password (same domain user I logged in with), then fails with the following message. Task Scheduler cannot apply your changes. The user account is unknown, the password is incorrect, or the account does not have permission to modify the task. When I check Log on as Batch Job Properties (found this from the Help documentation): This policy is accessible by opening the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Local Security Policy. In the Local Security Policy window, click Local Policy, User Rights Assignment, and then Logon as batch job. Everything is grayed out, so I can't add a user. How can I add a user?

    I'm having some trouble creating a urlacl reservation in Windows Server 2008; probably this a rookie mistake. The command line I'm using is: netsh http add urlacl url=http://+:99898/ user=ben The error that I see is: Url reservation add failed, Error: 87 The parameter is incorrect. There is a local user account named 'ben' that has admin privileges. I've made sure to put a trailing slash after the port number in the URL. Google and MSDN documentation are letting me down now - does anyone have any clue what I'm doing incorrectly?

The Project processes successfully and the cube can be browsed. I recently added a second Data Source to the Data Source View and linked a table to the original Named Query. When I try to process the project, I get the message: OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10.1" has not been registered.; 42000. The Connection String for both Data Sources uses SQLNCLI10.1

  • NPS will not add Radius client

    Hi all, I've just installed a fresh copy of NPS on a new 2008 R2 Std server. When I go to add a Radius client, I get "NPS Error: The service being accessed is licensed for a particular number of connections. No more connections can be made to the service at this time because there are already as many connections as the service can accept. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070573)". What do I do? This is the first Radius client I am installing (and the first change to the vanilla NPS since running the role installation wizard) so obviously I have not hit the 50 client max. Cheers

    I am trying to configure a Management Agent (MA) for Global Address List (GAL) sync in FIM 2010. I cannot move to the next step from "Configure GAL" because of an error message saying "It appears this forest is not exchange enabled". Nothing I change on "Configure GAL" step is changing this behavior. I'am configuring a standalone test lab. I have a Windows 2008 R2 x64 Server, promoted to a DC and SQL 2008 SP1 installed, DNS is also running locally. I have tried to install Exchange 2010 and 2007, but there is no difference. AD MA works fine. Any ideas what did I screw up?

  • "No active network adapters found" Hyper-V 2008 R2

    I fiddled around with the virtual network settings of my Hyper-V server, because Windows Update failed to run in the VMs. I set the flag that makes the NIC exclusively usable by the VM. Now, the host system tells me it has no active network adapters. What does that even mean? According to netsh, there are three enabled network connections. I tried to restart the NICs using devcon.exe (the correct x64 version), but that doesn't make any difference - still, devcon reports the NICs are there and they are activated?! Is there any way I can force the host to re-enable the NICs?

  • AppCmd returns error: Object 'SET' is not supported

    I am trying to set SSL Host Headers and Secure Site Bindings in IIS7. I followed the directions on this website http://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/ssl-host-headers-iis-7.htm (among others), but when I run the appcmd command mentioned, I get the error "Object 'SET' is not supported. Run 'appcmd.exe /?' to display supported objects". I have also tryed "appcmd site set" but it still returns the same error. What am I doing wrong? The server I am working on is Windows 2008 R2 x64, if that matters. Thank you.

    SERVER1 - SBS 2011 SERVER2 - Windows Server 2008r2 I'm using DFS-R. Changes work perfectly from 1 to 2 but nothing propagates from 2 to 1. When I attempt to run: dfsrdiag staticrpc /port:5001 /member:SERVER2 I get the error: [ERROR] Failed to connect to WMI services on computer: SERVER2.domain That command works just fine in the other direction. I've completely disabled the firewall on both ends. SERVER1 pings SERVER2 just fine. RPC Service is running on both servers. WMI Service is running on both servers.

    Captain America was first created as a comic book character in the 1940’s as a way to boost morale during World War II.  Aimed at a children’s audience, his legacy faded away when the war ended.  However, he has recently has a major reboot to become a popular movie character that deals with modern issues. When Captain America was first written, there was no such thing as a developer, programmer or a computer (the way we think of them, anyway).  Despite these limitations, I think there are still a lot of ways that modern Captain America is like modern developers. So how are developers like Captain America? Well, read on my list of reasons. Take on Big Projects Captain America isn’t afraid to take on big projects – and takes responsibility when the project is co-opted by the evil organization HYDRA.  Developers may not have super villains out there corrupting their work, but they know to keep on top of their projects and own what they do. Elderly Wisdom Steve Rogers, Captain America’s alter ego, was frozen in ice for decades, and brought back to life to solve problems. Developers can learn from this by respecting the opinions of their elders – technology is an ever-changing market, but the old-timers still have a few tricks up their sleeves! Don’t be Afraid of Change Don’t be afraid of change.  Captain America woke up to find the world he was accustomed to is now completely different.  He might have even felt his skills were no longer necessary.  He, and developers, know that everyone has their place in a team, though.  If you try your best, you will make it work. Fight Your Own Battle Sometimes you have to make it on your own.  Captain America is an integral part of the Avengers, but in his own movies, the other superheroes aren’t around to back him up.  Developers, too, must learn to work both within and with out a team.     I currently have a Windows Server 2003 setup to serve multiple sites via IIS. One of our directories needs to allow access to only 1 specific AD Security Group. I know there are two ways to accomplish this. One is using IIS to add permissions and the other is to set permissions on the folder/directory itself. A script runs at night and populates the content so users only need read permissions to view it in a browser. My question is which one is preferred?

    I've been trying to use check_time.vbs to check the Windows time. Here's the script: http://pastebin.com/NfUrCAqU The help message could be display: C:\Program Files\NSClient++\scripts>cscript //NoLogo check_time.vbs /? check_time.vbs V1.01 Usage: cscript /NoLogo check_time.vbs serverlist warn crit [biggest] Options: serverlist (required): one or more server names, coma-separated warn (required): warning offset in seconds, can be partial crit (required): critical offset in seconds, can be partial biggest (optional): if multiple servers, else use default least offset Example: cscript /NoLogo check_time.vbs myserver1,myserver2 0.4 5 biggest But I get the following error when running: C:\Program Files\NSClient++\scripts>cscript //NoLogo check_time.vbs 0.asia.pool.ntp.org 20 50 C:\Program Files\NSClient++\scripts\check_time.vbs(53, 1) Microsoft VBScript run time error: Invalid procedure call or argument The screenshot: Manually execute w32tm still works fine: What might be the cause of this?

  • ps1xml is not digitally signed

    I'm trying to load Exchange Management Shell and it gives me a big 'ol red error that says: Import-Module : There were errors in loading the format data file: Microsoft.PowerShell, , %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange\RemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml : File skipped because of the following validation exception: File %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange\RemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml cannot be loaded. The file %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\ExchangeRemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml is not digitally signed. The script will not execute on the system. Please see "get-help about_signing" for more details... The %APPDATA% is stored on an external server on my network (that I can ping to without problems). I am missing a ton of PS cmdlets too, which I'm presuming are stored in '*.format.ps1xml' Can someone tell me where to start?
