• Are compound command's second and subsequent lines not effected by HISTCONTROL in bash?

  When consulting bash's man page, it read this sentence about bash history: The second and subsequent lines of a multi-line compound command are not tested, and are added to the history regardless of the value of HISTCONTROL. But I have tried this: $ HISTCONTROL=ignorespace $ if [ -f /var/log/messages ] > then > echo "/var/log/message exists." > fi $ history | tail -2 18 HISTCONTROL=ignorespace 19 history | tail -2 Note that the if is leaded by a space. Why the second line of this if compound command still not appear in the history?

I don't know what the problem is really since the same statements work in NetBeans 6.0.   I'm having trouble adding a button to a layout that I've created in XML. I've tried creating a LinearLayout view, then create a Button and add it to this view but I just get NullPointerExceptions.. Any help would be appreciated. • How can I check if a value is in a list in Perl?

  I have a file in which every line is an integer which represents an id. What I want to do is just check whether some specific ids are in this list. But the code didn't work. It never tells me it exists even if 123 is a line in that file. I don't know why?   Hello, gcc 4.4.4 c89 Visual Studio VC++ 2008 I am writing a cross platform client server application. It will run on both linux and windows. However, I am just wondering what I have done for closing the sockets is correct. I close the file descriptor. However, if there is a problem with closing it. What is the best way to handle this. Maybe some data is still being sent or received?   Hi All, I am fetching some data from Db and displaying it in a textarea using jquery in the following way. $('#textareatest').val('<% =teststring %>').It is possible that the string 'teststring' can contain XHTML line breaks(<br/>).whenever the string contains <br/> I am getting the 'unterminated string literal' error.I saw a number of posts considering '\n' as line breaks and suggesting to escape it.I tried to escape the <br/> similarly,but it didn't work.   I have a php file with an xml header and xml code, named test.php. How do I load this file as an xml? The following doesn't work: $xml = simplexml_load_file('test.php'); echo $xml; I just get a white page. The test file is saved as php, as it's dynamic. It's loading data from the tradedoubler api. • Last element not getting insert in Tree

  So I was asked to make a Binary Tree in Haskell taking as input a list of Integers. Below is my code. My problem is that the last element of the list is not getting inserted in the Tree. • Numeric GUI bottleneck

  Hi all, I've made a GUI to set up and start a numerical integrator using PyQT4, Wing, QT, and Python 2.6.6, on my Mac. The thing is, when I run the integrator form the GUI, it takes very many times longer than when I crudely run the integrator from the command line. As an example, a 1000 year integration took 98 seconds on the command line and ~570 seconds from the GUI. In the GUI, the integration runs from a thread and then returns. It uses a a queue to communicate back to the GUI. Does anyone have any ideas as to where the bottleneck is? • How to identify/handle text file newlines in Java?

  Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

I want to iterate through the file and append each line to a common variable, that can be passed to a command line tool. • Python change the working directory for an exe opened with startfile

  In python i'm using the os.startfile command to start a windows executable that does especific stuff in its own folder, the python code is running from another folder, so when I start the file, it starts in the python script's working directory, but it has to start in its own directory. I've tried to use os.chdir(path) to change the working directory, but it fails, the file still not runs in it's own folder. I thought maybe there is a command like shortcut's "Start in" line. I've searched everywere, but not success. The only solution comes to my mind is to create a shortcut and add the "start in" line, then launch the shortcut, but that is very impractical.

  I'm having two errors when I test the "mysql_connect()" function in php. I just installed PHP and MySQL from scratch. Whenever I execute the command mysqld start --user=mysql I get the error "mysqld: Too many arguments (first extra is 'start'); Adding the "&" to the end of the command makes no difference (I don't know if it is supposed to).
