• ADO Error: Automation error - The specified module could not be found

  My VB6 application which runs successfully on many machines is producing the above error on just 1 users machine. Machine has Vista SP1 which means the MDAC installer will not work since MDAC 2.8 is already included. Code that leads up to the error: 'Temp file to users temp directory: FileName = C:\DOCUME~1\nmiller\LOCALS~1\Temp\TmpPrint.mdb Dim catADO As New ADOX.Catalog catADO.Create "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & FileName Error happens on the .Create line. Any help getting this user going would be greatly appreciated!

• SQLBulkCopy used in conjunction with Transaction and firing an event each time a batch is copied

  Im currently uploading data to MS SQL server via SQLBulkCopy and Transactions. I would like to be able to raise an event after each batch has been uploaded (I have already tried SQLRowsCopied event and it doesnt work, see quote below) MSDN quote: No action, such as transaction activity, is supported in the connection during the execution of the bulk copy operation, and it is recommended that you not use the same connection used during the SqlRowsCopied event. However, you can open a different connection. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlbulkcopy.sqlrowscopied(v=vs.80).aspx So i basically cant have my cake and eat it :( Does anyone know a solution around this as i would like to fire an event after each batch has been uploaded. • CodedUI null reference exception even when object exists

  Hi, I have created a coded ui test that checks something in my software. It worked fine, but now I keep getting null reference exception when I try to interact with the UITestControl. The starnge thing is, that the UITestControl's 'Exist' property returns true, which means that the control had been found. I've searched and found this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsautotest/thread/c2e6e5c3-2503-4506-9963-733fd84fbd25, But I have checked in my project, and the 'Copy Local' propert of these assemblies is set to false. I think that this execption first occurred after I have added an app.config file to my project. Maybe this might be the problem? If so, how can I fix this without deleting my app.config file? I have been looking around for suggestions so that I can prepare and make the most out of my first developer conference. Many articles make suggestions about asking questions, getting involved, being social. These are great! I am also wondering about physical items. I have seen many conference photos with most of the audience having their laptops. Are they just taking notes? Are they working on a problem during the session? • Seeking References To MSVC 9.0's C++ Standards Compliance

  I "know" (hopefully) that MSVC 9.0 Implements C++ 2003 (ISO/IEC 14882:2003). I am looking for a reference to this fact, and I am also looking for any research that has been done in to how compliant MSVC 9.0 is with that version of the Standard. I have searched for and not been able to find a specific reference from MicroSoft that actually says something to the effect that MSVC implements C++ 2003. Some of the out-of-date documentation says things like "this release achieves roughly 98% compliance" (when referring to MSVC .NET 2003's conformance to C++ 1997). But I want a link to a document from MS that says "MSVC 9.0 implements blah," and another link to an independent group that has tested the conformance of MSVC 9.0. Do you know of any such links?

  I have a button which when pressed, sets the user's rights in the db. (If Administrator UserTypeID is set to '2' and if Customer it is set to '1'). However when I run the below code, everything remains the same. I think it's from the SQL statement but I;m not sure. Can anyone help please? • Bind any version of MySql.Data using the app.config

  How do I bind any version or a range of versions of an assembly by using the app.config? I'm currently binding the MySql.Data assembly like this: <runtime> <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" applies-to="v2.0.50727"> <qualifyAssembly partialName="MySql.Data" fullName="MySql.Data, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d, processorArchitecture=MSIL"/> </assemblyBinding> </runtime> Any version of MySql.Data other than 6.2.2.0 is not working this way. The versions of this assembly are changing fast so I either want to bind any or all versions beginning with 6.2 to my application without changing the app.config each time.

• Do I assign different or the same class id to 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same IFilter?

  I've implemented my own Microsoft Search IFilter. I need two versions of it - 32-bit and 64-bit for deploying them on corresponding systems. In case of IFilters for any file extension I can only register one IFilter class id. Which means I can only use one version on any system. So having two class ids seems useless - it only makes the automatic installer more complex. Do I reuse the same COM class id for both or do I use different class ids?

• ASP.NET Connection time out after being idle for a while

  My ASP.NET website while trying to connect to the database for first time after a period of inactivity throws an time out exception. I understand the connections in the connection pool get terminated after some idle time for some reason (Firewall or Oracle settings) and the pool or app doesn't have a clue about it. Is there any way to validate the connection beforehand so that the first try doesn't throw an exception? I don't have much control over the DB or Firewall settings. So I have to deal with this is my application.(would prefer if there is any web.config settings) I am using: ASP.NET 2.0. Oracle server 11g, Microsoft Enterprise Library DAAB to do all my DB operations. I did some search on this topic but didnt find any solid solution for this yet :(

• MS Access (2010) Enable Design View

  I downloaded the Access template below for doing a home inventory: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=home%20inventory&ex=1&queryid=0d245f2a%2Dacdc%2D4161%2D92c8%2D8ba16a52ab32&AxInstalled=1&c=0#ai:TC101918100| The design view is not visible, which is a bit of a nuisance. Things I've tried: 1) In options/options/current database/ the check boxes (enable layout view & enable design changes for tables in Datasheet view) are both greyed out. 2) I've unblocked the file using Right-Click-Properties. 3) I've tried copying/exporting the objects to another database. But can only copy/export the tables. 4) I've tried holding shift when opening the DB. 5) Enabling all trust permissions etc. None of these work Does anybody have any suggestions. (I'm using Office 2010) Thanks

• SQL Server 2008 - cannot register default instance MSSQLSERVER

  Hello, I have installed SQL Server 2008 Developer on Windows 7 64 bit. In Management Studio I cannot register the default instance MSSQLSERVER, it cannot find it although the service is running. I get the message: Cannot connect to PHOENIX\MSSQLSERVER. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 87) However Management Studio does show the SQL Server 2005 Express instance (that was installed with VS 2008 Pro) which appeared as already registered. I an using Windows Authentication as I installed it in mixed mode. Any ideas would be appreciated, many thanks paul

  I have an application written in a combination of ASP/VB6/VBScript and ASP.NET/C# that consists of a website part, SOAP-like webservice part and a queue processing part processing incoming files in a hotfolder. We are used to running under load balancers (Microsoft or other make). Often we need to communicate between the different load balanced servers. Currently we do this through the SQL Server database that is common for all nodes, however, this comes with a performance penalty as each message requires a transaction and continual polling from the other nodes. • Code Analysis Error: Declare types in namespaces

  Is VS2010, I analyzed my code and got this error: Warning 64 CA1050 : Microsoft.Design : 'ApplicationVariables' should be declared inside a namespace. C:\My\Code\BESI\BESI\App_Code\ApplicationVariables.vb 10 C:\...\BESI\ Here is some reference info on the error. Essentially, I tried to create a class to be used to access data in the Application object in a typed way. The warning message said unless I put my (ApplicationVariables) class in a Namespace, that I wouldn't be able to use it. But I am using it, so what gives? Also, here is a link to another StackOverflow article that talks about how to disable this warning in VS2008, but how would you disable it for 2010? There is no GlobalSuppressions.vb file for VS2010. A company can have its network like inverstors, partners, competitors and customers etc. I want to realize a dynamic social networking graph for it. And it has to be implemented by php. Right now, i know SugarCRM and vTigerCRM are php open source CRMs. And SugarCRM provides some social functions. And there are a lot of other CRMs, while i'm not sure if they are realized by php, such as: ACT!, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle Siebel Social CRM, Salesforce, BatchBlue, Buzzient etc. Do you know any other php CRMs, especially php social CRMs? • How can I extract System.Net.Mail from Mono and rename the namespaces?

  Microsoft's implementation of System.Net.Mail does not provide a robust mailing solution. I would like to use Mono's implementation of System.Net.Mail instead, however that namespace is embedded in the System.dll shipped with Mono, and has exact same namespaces as the original .net framework. What I would like to do is instead extract System.Net.Mail from the mono solution and rename namespaces to Mono.System.Net.Mail. Then I can compile this in its own DLL and finally have a mailing solution that works! Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

• Are there cross-platform tools to write XSS attacks directly to the database?

  I've recently found this blog entry on a tool that writes XSS attacks directly to the database. It looks like a terribly good way to scan an application for weaknesses in my applications. I've tried to run it on Mono, since my development platform is Linux. Unfortunately it crashes with a System.ArgumentNullException deep inside Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary and I seem to be unable to find sufficient information about the software (it seems to be a single-shot project, with no homepage and no further development). Is anyone aware of a similar tool? Preferably it should be: cross-platform (Java, Python, .NET/Mono, even cross-platform C is ok) open source (I really like being able to audit my security tools) able to talk to a wide range of DB products (the big ones are most important: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ...)

• Redirect application's graphical output in Windows Vista/7 (with DWM)

  I want to create a desktop manager that takes informations of all running applications including states and screenshots to display and manipulate them in my virtual space (probably in 3D). It can be considered as another layer of abstraction on top of Windows itself. Because many native Windows Vista/7 features like Flip 3D and Live Thumbnails are able to show each window's activities in real-time e.g. video keeps playing in taskbar's thumbnail, I think DWM allows an application to redirect its output to somewhere else or some special processes are able to collect other applications' graphical outputs (maybe of child processes only). Has Microsoft released a set of public APIs to do so? If not, is it technically possible? And is it easier if I limit my scope to just .NET applications with WPF?

I'm hoping that some of you veteran Oracle developers have any recollection of in what order do these diskette images need to be loaded, since I don't have any documentation available for 6.0.33. • Using Entity Framework for SQL Compact Edition 3.5 does not respect mode=exclusive property of conne

  I am using SQL Server Compact 3.5 edition with Entity Framework and I want to have exclusive lock on the database as documented here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171817.aspx. However when you pass this in a connection string to Entity Framework it does not respect this at all. • CF - Mobile Managed Gestures

  Im looking for a nice demo/sample using Windows Mobile Managed Gestures. I have a main view that contains a single panel. Every item in the panel is another panel containing pictureBox and a label. I would like to implement scrooling (finger flicking) to avoid using thin scroolers. Are the Windows Mobile Managed Gestures the right solution to get this working, if so can some one provide me with a begginers demo? I downloaded the source code from http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/gestureswm/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=3438 but i would need a simple example using this source. Also a question ... does this work only on 6.5? Even if i got this working is there a way to support this in 6.0 ? thanx!

• In native C++, how does one use a SqlCe .sdf database?

  Is there a simple way, without .NET? I've found some libraries but none for SqlCe 3.5. There is http://sqlcehelper.codeplex.com/ but it's far from done, since a major feature like using a password is not yet implemented. I've looked at the source and it uses OLEdb to handle the database. The offical Microsoft Northwind example (that is shipped with SQL Compact 3.1, but not with 3.5) also doesn't work, I've tried setting it up with no success. Actually I don't have a sample working code. Was anyone able to set it up paired with a passworded .sdf? What are the alternatives? Thanks.

• Why is this if statement failing?

  I'm working on an existing class that is two steps derived from System.Windows.Forms.Combo box. The class overrides the Text property thus: public override string Text { get { return this.AccessibilityObject.Value; } set { if (base.Text != value) { base.Text = value; } } } The reason given for that "get" is this MS bug: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814346 However, I'm more interested in the fact that the "if" doesn't work. There are times where "base.Text != value" is true and yet pressing F10 steps straight to the closing } of the "set" and the Text property is not changed. I've seen this both by just checking values in the debugger, and putting a conditional breakpoint on that only breaks when the "if" statement's predicate is true. How on earth can "if" go wrong? The class between this and ComboBox doesn't touch the Text property. The bug above shouldn't really be affecting anything - it says it's fixed in VS2005. Is the debugger showing different values than the program itself sees?
