• Disk-based caching of dynamic images in IIS 7

  I'm writing an image server which needs to handle a relatively large number of concurrent requests (~5,000). The images being served are dynamically scaled down and cropped based on per-image specifications, which are queried from a database. The number of images is rather large, so an in-memory cache isn't viable (thrashing would most definitely occur). I'm using native caching in IIS 7 to avoid hitting the ASP.NET app which generates the images on-the-fly. I've looked around, but I couldn't find a simple way to configure IIS to store the cache on-disk -- is there such an option, or would I need to roll my own? I'd rather avoid placing the generated images in a public folder, so they can be served statically, since I would prefer to invalidate the cache entries using a query parameter (last-edit time from the database,) which doesn't seem possible to reconcile with static caching. I would love to get some feedback on this!

  SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

• Problem using easy_install on Windows 7, 64 bit. (cannot find python.exe)

  Hi, I have just now installed Python 2.6 on my Windows 7 (64 bit) Lenovo t61p laptop. I have downloaded Sphinx and nose and apparently installed them correctly using python setup.py install (at least no errors were reported during the installation). Now I am trying to install pymongo using easy_install but I am not having much success. It seems that easy_install isn't working at all. I execute easy_install as administrator: C:\>easy_install Cannot find Python executable C:\Program Files\Python26\python.exe The path C:\Program Files\Python26\python.exe is correct. I have found this bug report on bugs.python.org which seems to be related, although its status is 'Resolved'. Do you have any ideas as to what may be wrong? Any pointers, hints or tips for diagnosing the problem further would be greatly appreciated.   I have a query result set which I like to edit first and then put it to my ListView. • Java framework "suggestion" for persisting the results from an Oracle 9i stored procedure using Apac

  Hello, I am developing a Java servlet which calls an Oracle stored procedure. The stored procedure is likely to "grow" over time, and I have concerns the amount of time taken to "display the results on a web page". While I am at the implementation stage, I would like some suggestions of a Persistence framework which will work on Apache Tomcat 5.5? I see two approaches to persisting the database results. A scheduled database query every N minutes, or something which utilises triggers. Hibernate seems like the obvious answer, but I have never called stored procedures from Hibernate (HQL and Criteria). Is there a more appropriate framework which can be used? Thank you. cheers Miles.

• LINQ to SQL repository - caching data

  I have built my first MVC solution and used the repository pattern for retrieving/inserting/updating my database. I am now in the process of refactoring and I've noticed that a lot of (in fact all) the methods within my repository are hitting the database everytime. This seems overkill and what I'd ideally like is to do is 'cache' the main data object e.g. 'GetAllAdverts' from the database and to then query against this cached object for things like 'FindAdvert(id), AddAdvert(), DeleteAdvert() etc..' I'd also need to consider updating/deleting/adding records to this cache object and the database. What is the best apporoach for something like this? My knowledge of this type of things is minimal and really looking for advice/guidance/tutorial to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

• MySQL: updating a row and deleting the original in case it becomes a duplicate

  I have a simple table made up of two columns: col_A and col_B. The primary key is defined over both. I need to update some rows and assign to col_A values that may generate duplicates, for example: UPDATE `table` SET `col_A` = 66 WHERE `col_B` = 70 This statement sometimes yields a duplicate key error. I don't want to simply ignore the error with UPDATE IGNORE, because then the rows that generate the error would remain unchanged. Instead, I want them to be deleted when they would conflict with another row after they have been updated I'd like to write something like: UPDATE `table` SET `col_A` = 66 WHERE `col_B` = 70 ON DUPLICATE KEY REPLACE which unfortunately isn't legal in SQL, so I need help finding another way around. Also, I'm using PHP and could consider a hybrid solution (i.e. part query part php code), but keep in mind that I have to perform this updating operation many millions of times. thanks for your attention, Silvio Reminder: UPDATE's syntax has problems with joins with the same table that is being updated

The content script handles the storage functionality (chrome.storage manipulation). Whenever, a user changes a setting in the options page, I want to send a message to the content script to store the new data.   Hi, i am not sure if this is the correct term, but this is what id like to do: I have an application that uses a mssql database. This application can operate in 3 modes. mode 1) user does not alter, but only read the database mode 2) user can add rows (one at a time) onto a table in the database mode 3) user can alter several tables in the database (one person at a time) question 1) how can i ensure that when a user in in mode 3 that the database will "lock" and all logged in users who operate in mode 2 or mode 3 will not be able to change the database until he finishes? question 2) how can i ensure that while there are several users in mode 2, that there will be no conflict while they all update the table? my guess here, is that before adding a new row, you make a server query for the table's current unique keys and add the new entry. will this be safe enough though? • Get status of servlet request before the response is returned

  Good evening, I am in the process of writing a Java Servlet (Struts 2, Tomcat, JSP etc) which is capable of doing some fairly complex simulations. These can take up to 2 minutes to complete on the and will return a graph of the results. It is trivial to calculate the percentage of the simulation completed because the process works by repeating the same calculations 1000s of times. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever tried to use client side technology to provide any estimate of the percentage complete. I.e query the servlet processing to get the number of cycles completed at various point throughout the simulation. This could then be displayed as a bar in the client browser.   Hey Guys - I need to resolve a bunch of column names to column indexes (so as to use some of the nice ResultSetMetaData methods). However, the only way that I know how to get a ResultSetMetaData object is by calling getMetaData() on some ResultSet. The problem I have with that is that grabbing a ResultSet takes up uneccesary resources in my mind - I don't really need to query the data in the table, I just want some information about the table. Does anyone know of any way to get a RSMD object without getting a ResultSet (from a potentially huge table) first? Thanks!

  I am trying to switch a table from being a many-to-one mapping to being many-to-many with an intermediate mapping table. However, when I switched it over and tried to do a query on it with NHibernate, it's giving me this error: "Interceptor.OnPrepareStatement(SqlString) returned null or empty SqlString." • Getting Wikipedia infoboxes in a format that Ruby can understand

  I am trying to get the data from Wikipedia's infoboxes into a hash or something so that I can use it in my Ruby on Rails program. Specifically I'm interested in the Infobox company and Infobox person. The example I have been using is "Ford Motor Company". I want to get the company info for that and the person info for the people linked to in Ford's company box. I've tried figuring out how to do this from the Wikipedia API or DBPedia but I haven't had much luck. I know wikipedia can return some things as json which I could parse with ruby but I haven't been able to figure out how to get the infobox. In the case of DBPedia I am kind of lost on how to even query it to get the info for Ford Motor Company.

• How do I improve the efficiency of the queries executed by this generic Linq-to-SQL data access clas

  Hi all, I have a class which provides generic access to LINQ to SQL entities, for example: class LinqProvider<T> //where T is a L2S entity class { DataContext context; public virtual IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return context.GetTable<T>(); } public virtual T Single(Func<T, bool> condition) { return context.GetTable<T>().SingleOrDefault(condition); } } From the front end, both of these methods appear to work as you would expect. However, when I run a trace in SQL profiler, the Single method is executing what amounts to a SELECT * FROM [Table], and then returning the single entity that meets the given condition. Obviously this is inefficient, and is being caused by GetTable() returning all rows. My question is, how do I get the query executed by the Single() method to take the form SELECT * FROM [Table] WHERE [condition], rather than selecting all rows then filtering out all but one? Is it possible in this context? Any help appreciated, Lee

I want to search in mysql such that it will return all rows matching my search parameter into the values of the category. for example: $cat_id = 1; SELECT * FROM `myTable` WHERE cat_id is equal or found in category with values '1|2|3'... something like that..i do not know how to put it in correct sql query. Any Ideas? thanks in advance.

  I can open a Terminal tab using the following AppleScript: tell application "Terminal" set myTab to do script "exec sleep 1" get myTab end tell This returns a string like: tab 1 of window id 3263 of application "Terminal". This is great, I can see the window id 3263 and tab number 1 (although I don't know how to query myTab to get only these values). In the Cocoa ScriptingBridge, I can do: SBApplication *terminal; SBObject *tab; terminal = [SBApplication applicationWithBundleIdentifier:@"com.apple.terminal"] tab = [terminal doScript:@"exec sleep 1" in:nil] How do I get the window id and tab number from the tab object?
