• Load Excel data into Linux / wxWidgets C++ application?

  I'm using wxWidgets to write cross-plafrom applications. In one of applications I need to be able to load data from Microsoft Excel (.xls) files, but I need this to work on Linux as well, so I assume I cannot use OLE or whatever technology is available on Windows. I see that there are many open source programs that can read excel files (OpenOffice, KOffice, etc.), so I wonder if there is some library that I could use? Excel files it needs to support are very simple, straight tabular data. I don't need to extract any formatting except column/row position and the data itself.

• Why do I get Code Analysis CA1062 on an out parameter in this code?

  I have a very simple code (simplified from the original code - so I know it's not a very clever code) that when I compile in Visual Studio 2010 with Code Analysis gives me warning CA1062: Validate arguments of public methods. public class Foo { protected static void Bar(out int[] x) { x = new int[1]; for (int i = 0; i != 1; ++i) x[i] = 1; } } The warning I get: CA1062 : Microsoft.Design : In externally visible method 'Foo.Bar(out int[])', validate local variable '(*x)', which was reassigned from parameter 'x', before using it. I don't understand why do I get this warning and how can I resolve it without suppressing it? Can new return null? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

• IE 8 Errors for Group Permissions for access

  Hello, The company I work for is about to begin testing for a transition from IE6 to IE8. One of our main concerns is about using permissions to control intranet access to internal sites,etc. This was a problem we encountered during testing for IE7 and scrapped it all together. However, IE6 has more than its foot in the grave, its head is peeking out. Microsoft is only supporting IE6 until 2014 when they also abandon support for Windows XP. IE7 just came up with a box asking for you to enter your credentials. It didn't matter if you had permissions, it always said access denied. We have yet to begin testing but I was hoping someone has encountered this issue as well and may be able to shed some light on the subject.

• Boot strapper for VSTO 3.0 SP1

  Hi, I've got a .net 3.5 vs2008 Excel addin. I've created an installer for it and have it working apart from the fact that I cant get an option in the prerequisites for VSTO 3.0 SP1. I have one for VSTO 3.0 and when I check the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\VSTOR30 directory it has vstor30.exe vstor30sp1-KB949258-x86.exe product.xml "en" directory. However when I build the installer only the vstor.exe file gets copied over to the bin directory. I need vstor3.0sp1 for the addin to work. If I manually install vstor sp1 then everything works fine.

• Adding data (not only text) to a multi column ListView (WPF)

  I am working on a WPF application in C# (.NET 4.0) where I have a ListView with a GridView that has two columns. I dynamically want to add rows (in code). My dilemma is that only the first column will have regular text added to it. The second column will have an object that includes a multi column Grid with TextBlocks. (see link http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/803/listview.png/) If I do what you would normally do when you want to enter text in all columns (ie. DisplayMemberBinding) all I get in the second column is the text "System.Windows.Grid", which obviously isn't what I want. For reference if I just try to add the Grid object (with the TextBlocks) with the code listView1.Items.Add(grid1) (not using DisplayMemberBinding) the object gets added to the second column only (with the first column being blank) and not how it normally works with text where the same text ends up in all columns. I hope my question is detailed enough and any help with this would be much appreciated. EDIT: I have tried the following code, howeever every time I click the button to add a new row every single row gets updated with the same datatemplate.   When compiling a C/C++ program under Windows using Visual Studio (or a compiler that tries to be compatible) there is a predefined macro _WIN32 (Source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/b0084kay.aspx) that you can use for platform-specific #ifdef-s. What I am looking for is an analogon under Linux: a macro which tells me that I am compiling for Linux/an OS that claims to be (more or less) POSIX-compatible. • Cyclic References and WCF

  I have generated my POCO entities using POCO Generator, I have more than 150+ tables in my database. I am sharing POCO entities all across the application layers including the client. I have disabled both LazyLoading and ProxyCreation in my context.I am using WCF on top of my data access and business layer. Now, When I return a poco entity to my client, I get an error saying "Underlying connection was closed" I enabled WCF tracing and found the exact error : Contains cycles and cannot be serialized if reference tracking is disabled. I Looked at MSDN and found solutions like setting IsReference=true in the DataContract method atttribute but I am not decorating my POCO classes with DataContracts and I assume there is no need of it as well. I won't be calling that as a POCO if I decorate a class with DataContract attribute Then, I found solutions like applying custom attribute [CyclicReferenceAware] over my ServiceContracts.That did work but I wanted to throw this question to community to see how other people managed this and also why Microsoft didn't give built in support for figuring out cyclic references while serializing POCO classes

• How to Look Up Email by Full Name in Active Directory?

  I want to search for a user's email by using Active Directory. Available is the user's full name (ex. "John Doe" for the email with an email "[email protected]"). From what I've searched, this comes close to what I'm looking to do -- except that the Filter is set to "SAMAccountName", which is not what I have. Unless I'm misunderstanding, I just need to pick the right attribute and toss in the full name name in the same way. Unfortunately, I don't know what this attribute is, apparently no one has had to ask about searching for information in this manner, and that is a pretty big list (msdn * microsoft * com/en-us/library/ms675090(v=VS.85) * aspx, stackoverflow didn't let me link 2 hyperlinks because I don't have 10 rep) of attributes. Does anyone know how to obtain the user's email address through an Active Directory lookup by using the user's full name?

  What is the state of dynamic code evaluation in C#? For a very advanced feature of an app I'm working on, I'd like the users to be able to enter a line of C# code that should evaluate to a boolean. Something like: DateTime.Now.Hours > 12 && DateTime.Now.Hours < 14 I want to dynamically eval this string and capture the result as a boolean. I tried Microsoft.JScript.Eval.JScriptEvaluate, and this worked, but it's technically deprecated and it only works with Javascript (not ideal, but workable). Additionally, I'd like to be able to push objects into the script engine so that they can be used in the evaluation. Some resources I find mentioned dynamically compiling assemblies, but this is more overhead than I think I want to deal with. So, what is the state of dynamic script evaluation in C#? Is it possible, or am I out of luck?

  I was looking to install the latest Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio. However, this version doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. They say that the latest version of Azure Tools & SDK will only work with VS 2008 and VS 2010 RC and that for VS 2010 Beta 2 I still need to install November release. I know that VS 2010 is going to be released on April 12th this year but does anyone knows when VS 2010 RC is coming out? EDIT: The full RTM version of Visual Studio 2010 is released as of April 14, 2010.

  In the Script documents that asp.net automatically generates how can I surround the whole generated scripts with try/catch statement to avoid 'Microsoft JScript Compilation error' My issue is: i got a DevExpress control (ASPxGridView) that added and set-up in run time, since i activated the grouping functionality in the grid I still get JS error says ';' expected whenever i use (click) on one of grouping/sorting abilities, I activated script Debugging for IE, in the JS code turns out that there is no missing ';' and once i click ignore for the error msg that VS generates every thing works fine, and surly end-user can't see this msg so i figured out if i try/catch the script that may help avoid this error. • MS-Access nested DIR - check if a file exists elsewhere whilst looping through a folder

  I have used the DIR() command in Microsoft Access 2003 to loop through the files in folder A. This works fine, but I need to check if each file also exists in another location (folder B), and only process the file if it doesn't exist in folder B. The problem is that checking for the file existing in folder B also uses the DIR() function and this then resets or confuses the original one, with the result that no further files are found in folder A. Is there a way to check if a file exists without using DIR? Or, is there a way to have a separate instance of DIR? I suppose I could build a list of the files in folder A into an array and then process the entries in the array, but this seems rather 'clunky' Any suggestions for a better solution? Thanks

  SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

Upon processing of the data, almost immediately, the application becomes very slow and unresponsive. • How to use Visual Studio debugger visualizers built against a different framework version?

  I compiled the ExpressionTreeVisualizer project found in the Visual Studio 2010 samples but when I try to use it in a .NET 3.5 project I get the exception below: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Visual Studio 2010\Common7\Packages\Debugger\Visualizers\ExpressionTreeVisualizer.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. The sample project had the TargetFrameworkVersion set to v4.0 and after changing it to v3.5 and building it now works in my project. I changed the source code and project file and rebuilt it so that I now have two expression tree visualizers, one for v3.5 projects and one for v4.0 projects. Is there a better way? Thanks!

  Hey folks I've deployed an ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 and Windows Server 2008. I've read posts on here, and around the web, but can't get the darn client-side caching to work. I'm trying to cache everything in the /Content folder. So far I've select that folder in IIS manager, and set the appropriate HTTP Response Headers (under Common Headers). I've also checked the web.config file in the /Content folder and the values there are being set. All resources in /Content come back with this (from FireBug): Cache-Control no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Pragma no-cache Content-Type image/png Expires -1 Last-Modified Sun, 11 Oct 2009 19:01:40 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Etag "f318d643a54aca1:0" Server Microsoft-IIS/7.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:40:01 GMT Content-Length 620 Note the Cache-Control and Expires values for this static image being requested.
