  Hi I am new to Regex, however I decided it was the easiest route to what I needed to do. Basically I have a string (in PHP) which contains a whole load of HTML code... I want to remove any tags which have style=display:none... so for example <img src="" style="display:none" /> <img src="" style="width:11px;display: none" > etc... So far my Regex is: <img.*style=.*display.*:.*none;.* > But that seems to leave bits of html behind and also take the next element away when used in php with preg_replace.

• Setting a Global Doctype

  Is it possible using PHP (I was thinking may the phpinfo file or a php.ini file) or an .htaccess file to set a doctype for an entire subdirectory? Basically, in a nutshell, I'm using a software that uses XSL templates to output data to a set of HTML files. Modifying the xsl:output tag to include the doctype breaks the template and therefore, does not work. Just adding the doctype in the XSL file, breaks it as well. I need the proper doctypes in place for my CSS to function properly, cross-browser. I realize that I could add the doctype to the HTML files after export but, I'm really striving to automate this process. Any thoughts?

  I have a log file with the following format: INFO 2011-03-09 10:26:15,270 [user] message I want to parse the log file using PHP: // assume file exists and all that $handle = fopen("log_file.txt", "r"); while ($line_data = fscanf($handle, "%s %s %s [%s] %s\n")) { var_dump($line_data); } fclose($handle); When I run this code I get: [0]=> array(5) { [0]=> string(4) "INFO" [1]=> string(10) "2011-03-09" [2]=> string(12) "10:26:15,270" [3]=> string(5) "user]" [4]=> NULL } // snip It appears the closing bracket in the format string ("%s %s %s [%s] %s") is disrupting the rest of the line from getting parsed. I checked the PHP docs for scanf (as suggested by fscanf), and I didn't see anything mentioning having to escape a left bracket. Any suggestions on how to get the 4th and 5th elements to look like "user" and "message" respectively?

• Doctrine SQL Server uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

  I'm trying to set up Drupal multisite in a shared hosting environment. The main site's location looks like http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/ and my goal is to create another site using the same database at http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/drupal2. I've created a new folder in the sites directory called www.mysite.com.foo.bar.drupal2 and added the default.settings.php and settings.php files, configured correctly for the environment, and I've set up a symlink from the main site's root to the subdirectory, with this command: ln -s . drupal2 The problem is that when I go to http://www.mysite.com/foo/bar/drupal2, I just get the main site at http://www.mysite.com without triggering the installer. What do I need to change to get the multisite working?

• Can I get a "base URL" in Wordpress within a template file?

  Usually in my PHP apps I have a base URL setup so I can do things like this <a href="<?php echo BASE_URL; ?>tom/jones">Tom</a> Then I can move my site from development to production and swap it easily and have the change go site wide (and it seems more reliable than <base href="" />. I'm doing up a Wordpress theme, and I am wondering, does WordPress have anything like this built in, or do I need to redefine my own? I can see ABSPATH, but that is the absolute file path in the file system, not something from the document root.

  I am working on a Facebook for which I need to get all the Profile Pictures of Friends of the users. Which I did using FQL query. I need these images for creating a poster of all the Friends Profile pics along tags in them. For that I need to create a Dynamic poster for every user with their Friends tagged in them. I tried using the GD Library for PHP. I tried with the imagecreatefromjpeg() function of php for which I can use one image and pass it to the main image. But here I have more than 1 images (average about 100 images) depending on the number of friends the user has. What function do I need to create this dynamic poster ? Please any help would be appreciated !!

• Damaged data when gzipping

  This is the script I hva written for gzipping content on my site, which is located in 'gzip.php'. The way i use it is that on pages where I want to enable gzipping i include the file at the top and at the bottom i call the output function like this: print_gzipped_page('javascript') If the file is a css-file i use 'css' as the $type-argument and if its a php file i call the function without declaring any arguments. The script works fine in all browsers except Opera which gives an error saying it could not decode the page due to damaged data.   I hope I worded the title accurately enough but I typically use Java and don't have much experience in Web Development/PHP/CodeIgniter. I have a difficult time understanding the life cycle of a script as I found out trying to implement a certain feature to a website I am developing (as a means of learning how to). I'll first describe the feature I tried implementing and then the problem I ran into that made me question my fundamental understanding of how scripts work since I'm used to typical OOP. Ok so here goes... I have a webpage that has 2 basic tasks a user can do, create and delete an entry. What I attempted to implement was a way to time a user how long it takes them to complete a certain task. The way I did this was have a homepage where there would be a list of tasks a user to choose from (in this case 2, create and delete). A user would click a task which would link to the 'true' homepage where the user then would be expected to complete the task. Now there's no error in the code but it doesn't do what I expect of it and the reason I assume why is because that each time a function of the script is called via a new page it is NOT the same instance of the script called previously so any previously created objects are no longer there. This confuses me and leaves me quite unsure of how to implement this gracefully. Some ways I would guess of how to do this is by passing the necessary data through the URL or have data saved in a database and retrieve it later to compare the times. What would be a recommended way to do, not just this, but anything that needs previously created data? Also, am I correct to think that a script is only 'alive' for one webpage at a time? Thanks!

• SWF (using XML) only working locally, not on home server or web hosting server

  Hi, I use a main SWF file, which has some animations. It uses xml from a .php file which specifies several items, e.g. images and other SWFs to be used in the main SWF. Locally everything works perfectly, but when invoking it via my home server, or hosting provider it doesn't work anymore and I don't get why. All links are relative and correct. Somehow the main SWF doesn't load fully, or has problems with the XML from the .php file. The ActionScript from the main sWF can be found at samedomain as above/Actionscript_mainmovie.txt This also seems to work great. the function formattabs (line 68) uses some javascript. Locally the main SWF functions even without this hbx file which is located /cc-common/wss/hbx.js and use in the webpage actually. I haven't got a clue what's keeping the main SWF from working properly, because all other single SWFs work properly when invoked using a direct link. And this one just isn't working... Do I maybe need to add something in the php.ini file?? Any help would be appreciated!

• How do I create a user history?

  I want to create a user history function that allows shows users what they done. ex: commented on an ad, posted an ad, voted on an ad, etc. How exactly do I do this? I was thinking about... in my site, when they log in it stores their user_id ($_SESSION['user_id']) so I guess whenever an user posts an ad(postad.php), comments(comment.php), I would just store in a database table "userhistory" what they did based on whenever or not their user_id was activate. When they comment, I store the user_id in the comment dbc table, so I'll also store it in the "userhistory" table. And then I would just queries all the rows in the dbc for the user to show it Any steps/improvements I can make? :)

I need to automate this whole process since i have approx 2000 HTML files which should be read and should be entered in a form in PHP.   I'm dealing with blobs of up to - I estimate - about 100 kilo bytes in size. The data is compressed already. Storage engine: InnoDB on MySQL 5.1 Frontend: PHP (Symfony with Propel ORM) Some questions: I've read somewhere that it's not good to update blobs, because it leads to reallocation, fragmentation, and thus bad performance. Is that true? Any reference on this? Initially the blobs get constructed by appending data chunks. Each chunk is up to 16 kilo bytes in size. Is it more efficient to use a separate chunk table instead, for example with fields as below? parent_id, position, chunk Then, to get the entire blob, one would do something like: SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(chunk ORDER BY position) FROM chunks WHERE parent_id = 187 The result would be used in a PHP script. Is there any difference between the types of blobs, aside from the size needed for meta data, which should be negligible.

• APC not recommended for production?

  I have started having problems with my VPS in the way that it would faill to serve the pages on all the websites. It just showed a blank page, or offered to download the php file ( luckily the code was not in the download file :) ). The server was still running, but this seemed to be a problem with PHP, since i could login into WHM. If i did a apache restart, the sites would work again. After some talks with the server support they told me this is a problem with the APC extension witch they considered to be old and not recommended for production servers. So they removed it for now, to see if the same kind of fails would continue to appear. I haven't read anywhere that APC could have some problems or that its not always recommended to use, quite the contrary ... everywhere people are saying to always use it. The APC extension was installed ssh and is the latest version. Edit: They also dont recomend MemCache and say that a more reliable extension would be eAccelerator

• MySQL Locks: order of unblocked threads

  I have a MySQL ISAM table being accessed my multiple php instances. Right now I'm using a WRITE lock to serialize access to this table. My question is how do I ensure that the PHP instances get served on a First-Come-First-Serve basis? Or is this the default behaviour? The official MySQL documentation doesn't mention anything about the blocked thread order for threads of the same lock type (ie multiple threads attempting a WRITE LOCK). It only mentions that a WRITER will jump to the front of the waiting queue if READERS are waiting.

  I've a PHP library that uses a number of regular expressions featuring the \P expressions for multibyte strings, e.g. ((((?:\P{M}\p{M}*)+?)|(\'[^\']*\')|(\"[^\"]*\"))!)?\$?([a-z]{1,3})\$?(\d+) While this works on most builds, I've had a few reports of the regexp returning an error. Depending on Operating platform, the error messages from PCRE are: Compilation failed: PCRE does not support \L, \l, \N, \P, \p, \U, \u, or \X at offset n or Compilation failed: support for \\P, \\p, and \\X has not been compiled at offset n I know that I can probably test a regexp at the beginning of my code that uses \P, and trap for a returned error, then use that response to set a compatibility flag and provide a degraded (non UTF-8) regexp without the \P within the main body of my code based on that compatibility flag; but I was wondering if there was any simpler way to identify whether PCRE had been built without the --enable-unicode-properties or --enable-utf8 configuration switches. PHP provides access to PCRE_VERSION constant, but that won't help identify whether \P support is enabled or not.

• Scheduling jobs from a web environment on Linux

  Hi. I am developing an application in PHP on Linux/Apache. I want to be able to schedule PHP jobs (scripts) for execution at some specific time in the future from within the application. I know that many people will recommend cron and at, but first of all I don't need recurrence (cron) and secondly and most importantly, I need the solution to be able to scale. At was not designed with race condititions in mind, and if two users try to add a job at the same time one or both may fail. It's also important that jobs are executed at their specified time, and not just 'polled' once per minute or so. Can anyone please suggest solutions for this task? Thank you.
