Why does running rake gems:unpack result in a Gem::FilePermissionError

I'm attempting to upgrade the friendly_id gem in a rails project. I have removed the old gem from the vendor directory, installed the new gem from rubygems.org. When I type: rake gems:unpack I get the following response: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 directory. Sure, I realise I can sudo it, but what I don't understand is if I would like to unpack the gem into my project vender directory, why does it need access to /usr/lib/ruby/gems....

I just tried a sample of retrieving and passing it to a textview. I am having some trouble wrapping my textview. The bottom part is not completely shown. What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure. How to use wildcards and variable substitution in activemq camel routes

I would like to set up a generic camel route that routes all messages to a set of queues to a queue with the same name and a suffix. Is POSTing a Dictionary to an .NET MVC action possible?

I have a form which contains a series of fields like: <input type="text" name="User[123]" value="Alice" /> <input type="text" name="User[456]" value="Bob" /> ... Where the index of the User array (123 and 456) are ID's associated with the value. I'm trying to update these values in the controller. My thinking is that a Dictionary that maps ID to name would work, but creating the action like: public void Save(Dictionary<string, string> user) { // ... } results in the user parameter being null. So, is passing a Dictionary possible? or, is there another method to achieve this?

paperclip error

i am trying paperclip for the first time and followed this tutorial all is well until i use styles. this is the code has_attached_file :photo, :url => "/uploads/products/:id/:style/:basename.:extension", :path => ":rails_root/public/uploads/products/:id/:style/:basename.:extension", :styles => { :thumb=> "100x100#" } the error i see on the console is [paperclip] An error was received while processing: #<Paperclip::NotIdentifiedByImageMagickError: C:/DOCUME~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/stream,2956,1.jpg is not recognized by the 'identify' command.> what does this mean? I have no idea what it means. Should i install this ImageMagick? I tried installing it as a plugin as per this page. This also returns an error that "plugin not found". what am i missing here?

Put text input inside label for radio button?

I'm trying to make a radio group specifying a bunch of options, and an extra option "other" with a text input to specify. The code for this particular radio button I'm using is <input type='radio' name='RadioInput' value='Other' id='RadioInput_Other' /> <label for='RadioInput_Other'>Ohter: <input type='text' name='RadioInput_Other_Value' id='RadioInput_Other_Value' value='' /> </label> The idea is that if you give focus to the text input, the radio button corresponding to it is selected. The code above almost does this (since the text input is inside the label). However, it also shifts focus to the radio button (which is annoying, since whatever you type next is lost). Is there any way to prevent this using XHTML1.0 / CSS2? Preferably without using javascript.

Safari anchors on links not working.

My html anchor is as follows. <a name="template-8"/> <h4 class="template" id="template-8">A title</h4> As far as I know the browser should skip to the element matching either name or id attributes. When I type in the url http://my.site.com/templates#template-8 safari jumps down the page as expected. However when linking as below the anchor does nothing. Chrome, Opera, IE7 and Firefox all work. <a href="http://my.site.com/templates#template-8">A link</a> Safari is version 5.0, could this be a safari bug?

How to hide Amazon webstore default toolbar with Prototype?

Rails can't render polymorphic associations to XML?

When I render XML with an :include clause for a polymorphic association I have, it doesn't work. I end up with the XML returning the object pointers instead of the actual objects, like: <posts> #<Comment:0x102ed1540>#<Comment:0x102ecaa38>#<Comment:0x102ec7fe0>#<Comment:0x102ec3cd8> </posts> Yet as_json works! When I render JSON with :include clause, the associations are rendered correctly and I get something like: posts":[ {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:30-07:00","id":7,"content":"fourth comment"}, {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:26-07:00","id":6,"content":"third comment"}] My current workaround is using XML builder, but I'm not too comfortable with that in the long run. Does anyone happen to know about this issue? I'm kind of in a catch-22 because while XML doesn't render the associations, as_json doesn't render in a kosher json format (returns an array rather than a list of hashes as proper json should) and the deserializer I'm using on the client side would require modification to parse the json correctly.

jquery checked checkbox IE problem

Hi, I'm having an issue verifying if a checkbox is checked using jquery on Internet Explorer. This is the code I'm using: if ($('#chkjq_1').attr('checked') == true) It works fine on Firefox or Chrome, but on Internet Explorer 7, the condition is always false because the browser sets the property this way: <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" CHECKED/> IE7 And the right way is the following: (Firefox, Chrome): <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" checked="checked"/> FF, Chrome, etc What should I do to avoid this issue on Internet Explorer 7; is there a generic way in jquery to solve this? I have two tables as defined below: EMAILS ID SUBJECT BODY 1 Test1 blah blah 2 Test2 blah blah blah 3 Test3 more blah ATTACHMENTS ID EMAIL_ID ATTACHMENT NAME 1 2 TEST.DOC 2 2 TEST.XLS I'm trying to perform a select to get back all of the emails and a count of how many attachments (if any) for each row in the EMAILS table -- preferably in a single query where the results would resemble something like: EMAIL_ID SUBJECT NUM_ATTACHMENTS BODY 1 Test1 0 blah blah 2 Test2 2 blah blah blah 3 Test3 0 more blah I've tried everything but the "right way" and if anyone has a few minutes to help me create the right SQL to build this, I'd greatly appreciate it. .NET JIT Code Cache leaking?

We have a server component written in .Net 3.5. It runs as service on a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. It works great but after some time (days) we notice massive slowdowns and an increased working set. We expected some kind of memory leak and used WinDBG/SOS to analyze dumps of the process. Unfortunately the GC Heap doesn’t show any leak but we noticed that the JIT code heap has grown from 8MB after the start to more than 1GB after a few days. We don’t use any dynamic code generation techniques by our own. We use Linq2SQL which is known for dynamic code generation but we don’t know if it can cause such a problem. The main question is if there is any technique to analyze the dump and check where all this Host Code Heap blocks that are shown in the WinDBG dumps come from? [Update] In the mean time we did some more analysis and had Linq2SQL as probable suspect, especially since we do not use precompiled queries. Hey guys, I want to use the argument I pass (this) in a JS function and treat it as an jQuery variable. Example: <script> function useMe(obj){ $(obj).val(); ... ... ... } </script> <select id="selectid" onChange="useMe(this)"> <option>......</option> </select> Is there a possibility to treat the passed argument as a jQuery element? Btw. I need to do it this way, because the select-element isn't created on load. The select element will be created later asynchronously. SQL Like question

Is there a way to reverse the SQL Like operator so it searches a field backwards? For example, I have a value in a field that looks like this "Xbox 360 Video Game". If I write a query like below, it returns the result fine. SELECT id FROM table WHERE title like "%Xbox%Game%" However, when I search like this, it doesn't find any results. SELECT id FROM table WHERE title like "%Video%Xbox%" I need it to match in any direction. How can I get around this?

WordPress query posts into two Divs

I want to display my wordpress posts in a category in two divs. So for example: <div id="left"> POST 1 POST 3 POST 5 POST 7 </div> <div id="right" POST 2 POST 4 POST 6 POST 8 </div> So want I need to do is tell the query_posts to somehow start spitting out the first 4 posts oddly and then evenly for each div. I don't want to have two seperate WP_Queries as this is a category.php file and needs to have the default loop. Not quite sure how to do this. Any help much appreciated.
