  • How to add a web folder via command line (Windows)

    I am trying to add a web folder via command line in windows. At first I though I should use the "net use" command, but when I tried I kept getting System error 67: C:net use * http://dev.subdomain.domain.tdl/dav/ the user name for 'dev.restech.niu.edu': correctusername the password for dev.restech.niu.edu: System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found. The url I used works in a browser. It's an Apache dav on basic auth LDAP authentication method being used. Here's the thing... I CAN create a web folder when I use the "Add a network place" wizard. When I do net use, I don't see it listed in the prompt that follows. What utility do I need to use to mount a web folder in command line?

  • DNS server at router level vs. computer level

    I've three questions. Is it better/faster/optimal to set up your server's preferred and alternate DNS servers in your OS's network settings or in your router settings? Will it cause problems if it is set up in both places, both pointing to the same IPs? I am running Windows and I have my network assign a static IP to one of my computers. This doesn't allow me to obtain the DNS server addresses from my router automatically. Is there an IP I can put in that will cause it to take the DNS server addresses from the router?

  • Remote installing an msi on citrix servers using WMI

    OK, I'm a C# programmer that is trying to streamline the deployment of a custom windows form app I inherited and built an installer for with WiX (this app will need to be reinstalled regularly as I'm making changes to it). I'm not really used to admin type things (or vbs, or WMI, or terminal servers, or Citrix, and even WiX and MSI are not things I usually deal with) but so far I put together some vbs and have an end goal in mind. The msi does work, and I've installed it from the mapped O: drive on my dev machine and while RDP'd to a citrix machine. End Goal: Deploy code written on my dev machine and compiled into an MSI (that I can improve upon within the confines of WiX and whatever the Windows Installer Engine allows) to the cluster of Citrix machines my users have access to. What am I missing in my script to get the MSI to execute on the remote machines? Layout: Machine A is my dev machine, and has the vbs script and the msi file (XP SP3) Machines C1 - C6 are the Citrix Servers that need the application installed them via the msi (Server 2003 R2 SP2) There is also optionally a shared network resource that all the machines can access. This is an application that contains private business data, and thus is traditionally run in a secure private network environment within the enterprise. What are the challenges that appear when my enterprise desires to move the processing component of this application to a cloud computing data center in order to achieve greater scalability or to reduce IT costs ? Pls note: do i have to make significant changes to my own infrastructure to enable external access to formerly private resources? do i have to modify the application code to handle new network topology ? thanks, if you give your answers in a simple manner, really appreciated.

  • Mac friendly file sharing from VirtualBox

    I have set up Ruby on Rails on Ubuntu into a VirtualBox instance on my PC, I enabled Samba and I'm connecting to it via the home network from my Mac. All is fine except that I have some issues deleting some files from inside applications e.g. in Sublime Text 2 when I right click a file in the browser and select delete nothing happens (same in my Git client). To be able to delete files I have to navigate to the folder in Finder (which leaves those nasty .DS_Store files scattered all around) or issue the delete command from the terminal (inconvenient). If you're asking why I'm using VirtualBox for Rails instead of doing the development directly on the Mac it's because the ease of portability. So my question is: are there any network sharing options which I could use to make the Linux instance play nicer with my Mac?

  • Joining computers from workgroup to active directory

    I have several computers at my office that I want to put on our domain. These computers currently are used by employees with local computer accounts and they have information stored under these accounts. When I join their computer to the domain how would or could I keep their current computer accounts and add them to the Active Directory so they could log in as usual access the network resources? Is this possible or do I need to just start from scratch on all this with their accounts and locally stored files? We are using Windows 2008 R2 and all systems being added have the Windows 7 pro or higher. All I want to really do is add the systems to the domain and have their accounts in the Active Directory so they can log in, access files which are already on their computer, and use network reosoures. If I can add their computer and then add same username and password to Active Directory to get this all to work that would be fine. I am just looking for minimal impact on the user really to get this done.

  • Save static version of a webpage to be available offline

    Is there a way to save a webpage as static HTML, available for offline viewing, editing etc.? I want to remove all javascript files. Leave only HTML, CSS and images. For example, if this web page has a Facebook Like button, I want the image of the button to be part of the HTML as a regular image (and not be loaded as some Javascript code runs after I load the page). I'm trying to prepare a webpage for an offline demo. When I use the standard "save as HTML complete" like tools, all the Javascript is saved as well, and when viewed offline, all the dynamic content is blanks. Note- I don't expect the dynamic content to work, of course, with no Javascript. I just want the web page to LOOK as though it was just loaded from the interwebs. Thanks, Tal.

  • Copying files within a Workgroup

    I have three boxes operating in a Windows Server workgroup within a closed network. (No Domain / No AD) There are several derivations of the scenario that I'm about to outline, but I'm sure I will be able to retool the solution as and when I need. Essentially the boxes are: 2 x Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Standard 1 x Windows Server 2000 Standard I need to be able to schedule the copying/and-or/moving of files from various directories and each of the boxes. Each box has a different username and password for the administrator. I have PowerShell 2.0 on the two Win2K8 boxes (obviously). Previously I have used mapped network drives to copy the files, and cmd line batches, but I'd much rather use Powershell if possible (with Shares and/or $ notation). However the Copy-Item cmdlet doesn't seem to be processing the Credential correctly. Perhaps some Powershell gurus out there might be able to help me. Essentially I'd like to schedule a PS run of script to push backup files onto my WIn2k box (old fileserver) periodically.

    We have a PHP 5 web application and we're currently evaluating PHP CodeSniffer in order to decide whether forcing code standards improves code quality without causing too much of a headache. If it seems good we will add a SVN pre-commit hook to ensure all new files committed on the dev branch are free from coding standard smells. Is there a way to configure PHP codeSniffer to ignore a particular type of error? or get it to treat a certain error as a warning instead?   • Can't send email through Comcast SMTP to my domains

    I am a Comcast customer with 3 computers and 3 computer users in the house. There are 2 fully updated Macs and one PC running Windows 7. We use Mail on the Macs, and Outlook on Windows 7. All computer accounts are configured to send mail through port 587 of smtp.comcast.net. I also have two personal domains registered with Network Solutions. For the sake of this discussion, call my domains myOwnDomain1.com and myOwnDomain2.com. I have email addresses at both domains. They are of the form [email protected] and [email protected]. Until recently, our email worked as expected. However, sometime between September 13, 2012 and September 19, 2012, we lost the ability to send email through Comcast's SMTP server to the email addresses at my personal domains. If we attempt to send email through Comcast's SMTP to those addresses, the email never arrives. Furthermore, the email clients give no indication of failure. The email just never arrives. The result is the same on all 3 computers and with all accounts on those computers. We can successfully send email through Comcast's SMTP from any of our accounts on any of our computers to any email address other than to my email addresses at my personal domains! However, I receive email at those domains that is not sent through smtp.comcast.net. For example, I can successfully send email from my gmail and yahoo accounts to my email addresses at my personal domains. Furthermore, I can successfully send email through smtp.myOwnDomain1.com to [email protected] and through smtp.myOwnDoman2.com to [email protected]. Comcast says the problem must be at Network Solutions. According to Network Solutions, their logs show they are not blocking reception of the email, and our IP address is not flagged as a spam source. They say the email is simply not arriving. Does anyone have any ideas why we can't send email through Comcast's SMTP server to my domains? As an odd coincidence, we recently noticed a change in Comcast's SMTP service. there is now a 5 minute delay on all outbound mail. Comcast's SMTP server seems to sit on the mail with a 5 minute timer.

    I recently upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.9. on snow leopard i was able to make time machine backups over the network to my nas, i think i had to tweak some settings but i dont recall what i did. now that i upgraded to mavericks, i cannot do backups to my nas using time machine. my question is, what do i have to do to allow time machine backups over the network in 10.9? i tried looking for solutions online but did not find anything relating to mavericks.

    Hi, I have successfully configured Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 all 64 bit, however when I tried to access this particular SQL Server 2008 DB instance from another SQL Server 2008 SSMS in another Windows Server 2008 it failed ? what I did is to disabled the IPv6 IP address using the regedit but still the problem hasn't been fixed even after restart ? I have enabled the named piped as well but still no luck ? any help please ? Here's the error message: " A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.   • Debian based OS: Show system notification on clipboard copy/paste events

    When working with Linux (Debian based), I often experience problems in relation to the copy paste commands: I copy something with Ctrl+C or by selecting it with the mouse, but when I try to paste it somewhere else, the clipboard is empty and nothing happens - whatever reason caused this. This annoys me, as I have to switch to the source application again and again copy the text. So to really be sure if something was copied into the clipboard I would like it if the window manager (be it Gnome, KDE, etc) would show a Desktop Notification (for example powered by libnotify) as soon as anything is copied into the clipboard, showing the content that has been copied into the clipboard. Is that possible by using one of the many clipboard managers out there (glippy, clipit, ...)? If not, can I write a (DBus?)-hook, which is triggered during copy-to-clipboard-actions, showing the content which is to copy inside the Desktop Notification? (The latter approach would be more interesting, since I'm interested in hooking into system events in general)

  • Debugging IO limitation

    I have a Fedora box with some severe IO limitations which I have no idea how to debug. The server has a Areca Technology Corp. ARC-1130 12-Port PCI-X to SATA RAID Controller with 12 7200 RPM 1.5 TB disks and a Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8050 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller. uname -a output: 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Apr 5 19:59:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The server is a file server running Nginx with the stub status module enabled, so I can see the current amount of connections. The problem present itself when I have a high number of simultaneous connections in a writing state. Usually around 350, at this very moment it's at 590 and the server is almost unusable and stuck at 230mbit/s. If I run stop and hit 1 to see CPU core usages I have all 4 cores with around 99% io wait, if I run iotop the nginx workers are the only processes producing any read load, currently at around 25MB/s. I have each of the workers bound to their own core. Initially I figured it was just the disks being bugged. But I've run fscheck and smartmontools checks and found no errors. I also ran an iozone test which you can see the result of here: http://www.pastie.org/951667.txt?key=fimcvljulnuqy2dcdxa Additionally, when the amount of connections are low I have no problem getting a good speed. If I wget over the local network it easily hits 60MB/sec. Right now I just tried putting a file in /dev/shm, then I symlinked a file from the public dir to it and used wget over the local network and only got 50KB/s. Also, if I try to cp /dev/shm/test /root/test it quickly copies around 740MB and then slows down HEAVILY. Again with iotop reporting 99% iowait. I'm not really sure how to go about figuring out what the problems are. It could be a natural disk limitation but then the file from /dev/shm ought to transfer so it seems there's a network limit, but that's fine when there's not many connections. Perhaps it's a TCP stack problem but I really have no idea how to check that. Any suggestions on how to proceed with debugging would be very welcome. If additional information is required then let me know and I'll try to get it. Thanks.

How do I connect the windows xp that is in virtual box to the local computer (windows 7) in a network. Because I got this error while I tried following this instruction: Give the IP address, username and password of the remote machine that you would like to convert and then hit next I got this error in vmware converter: Unable to connect the specified host 10.0.2.15 which is the ip address of the xp machine inside virtual box. It also said that there is a network configuration problem. And when I inputted the ip address from whatismyip.com which should be the same as the ip address on local machine. I didn't get the previous error but I got another one, it said that: insufficient permissions to connect to "ip address" What solution can you suggest for this problem?

The service bus console allows you to view the content that you reported. To report data you simply use the Report action in your proxy. The action itself is rather straightforward. You specify the content to report ($body for example), an optional key for easier search (for example the id of the record) and that's it. Sometimes though, what you want to is a bit more complicated. I recently had a case where the key was built from the message type (XML) and the id of the message. Seems quite simple but the id could be any element anywhere in the message depending on its type. This could be handled by 'if' statement but adding new cases would mean changing the proxy service and if you have lots of message types this can get boring so I wanted the solution to be as dynamic as possible (read "just change a configuration file and that's it"). The following entry details how you can make this dynamic in your proxy by using XQuery/XSLT.   First step the XQuery We're going to use an XQuery to make the mapping between the XML message type and the location of the identifier in it. We assume here that the message type is the first node of the input XML and use a rather simple Xpath to find the identifier.  The XQuery looks like this for two messages : <reportmapping>                 <row>                                <logical>messageType1</logical>                                <type>MT1</type>                                <reportingreferencelocation>//customID</reportingreferencelocation>                 </row>                 <row>                                <logical>messageType2</logical>                                <type>MT2</type>                                <reportingreferencelocation>//theOtherIDLocation</reportingreferencelocation>                 </row>   </reportmapping>   Second step the XSLT To get the identifier value of the dynamic path, we're going to use an XSLT transformation. We're then extracting the id of the message using the XSLT transformation Final assign is to built the final variable that will be used as the reporting key. The report action is then called with this variable. Everything is setup.     I have a Kyocera MFD. I have it set to scan to email using the ISP's SMTP server. The messages are delivered and received by the hosted email server. The POP connector on the SBS server downloads the messages, but delivers them to the badmail folder. I have given the message a subject and a body.     I'm a Comp Sci undergraduate student, and I'm currently trying to understand the architecture behind streaming. I hear several terms and I'm not quite sure how they are related (e.g. streaming, broadcasting, ingesting, etc.) Is there a blog post or book that explains: How it all works in a high-level view (the workflow) The architecture (i.e. I capture content using my camera and want to display it real-time to an audience. I imagine that the content will be transferred to a server, but how does that server transmit the information to several users simultaneously?) Thanks!
