• In-memory Database in Excel

  Hello, I am looking for a way to import a datatable from Access into an Excel variable and then run queries through this variable to speed up the process. I am trying to migrate from C# .NET where I read a data table from an access database into memory and then used LINQ to query this dataset. It is MUCH faster than how I have it currently coded in VBA where I must make lots of calls to the actual database, which is slow. I have seen the QueryTable mentioned, but it appears that this requires pasting the data into the excel sheet. I would like to keep everything in memory and minimize the interaction between the Excel Sheet and the VBA code as much as possible. I wish we didn't need to use Excel+VBA to do this, but we're kind of stuck with that for now. Thanks for the help!

  I wrote a sql query to retrieve data as follows: SELECT (MAX (b.filledqty) - MAX (a.filledqty)) AS filledtoday FROM clientordermas a, clientordermas b WHERE a.clordid = 'w9110126' AND b.clordid = 'w9110126' AND (SELECT max(a.price) FROM clientordermas a WHERE a.clordid = 'w9110126') < 1000; There are three records in the table for the given clordid with price values 800, 900 1200. So, what I need is to get the difference between 1200 and 900 which is 300. But, the above statement always returns 0. What I should get is MAX (b.filledqty) retuns 1200 and MAX (a.filledqty) retuns 900. But it is not happening. This is not the exact problem I am facing but a simplified version of it. Can someone please help?

  Hi, I just want advice on whether I could improve structure around a particular class which handles all disk access functions The structure of my program is that I have a class called Disk which gets data from flatfiles and databases on a, you guessed it, hard disk drive. I have functions like LoadTextFileToStringList, WriteStringToTextFile, DeleteLineInTextFile etc which are kind of "generic methods" In the same class I also have some more specific methods such as GetXFromDisk where X might be a particular field in a database table/query. Should I separate out the generic methods from the specialised. Should I make another class which inherits the generic methods. At the moment my class is static as there is no need to have an internal state of the class. I'm not really OOPing am I? Thanks Thomas

  Hi. I run this script to search particular text in sys.columns and I get a lot of "dbo.syncobj_0x3934443438443332" this kind of result. SELECT c.name, s.name + '.' + o.name FROM sys.columns c INNER JOIN sys.objects o ON c.object_id=o.object_id INNER JOIN sys.schemas s ON o.schema_id=s.schema_id WHERE c.name LIKE '%text%' If I get it right, they are replication objects. Is it so? Can i just throw them away from my query just like o.name NOT LIKE '%syncobj%' or there's another way? Thank you.

  Hi there guys I'm new to LINQ and I'm trying to check whether a TEXT column is null or empty (as String.IsNullOrEmpty). from c in ... ... select new { c.Id, HasBio = !String.IsNullOrEmpty(c.bio) } Trying to use the above query produces an SqlException: Argument data type text is invalid for argument 1 of len function. The SQL generated is similar to the following: CASE WHEN ( NOT (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0))) THEN cast(1 as bit) WHEN (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0)) THEN cast(0 as bit) END AS [C1] LEN is not applicable to TEXT columns. I know DATALENGTH should be used for them... How can I force LINQ to produce such thing? Or any other workaround to test if a text column is null or empty??? Thanks!

Is it possible to use javascript to query the graph api to load the user's data into this iframe loaded form using javascript such that is appears pre-populated to the user? I am aware that there is a cross domain security issue. In that case, suppose that my iframe tab is now hosted on the same domain as the iframe loaded form, will this be doable now?

  I would like my code to update contact details (like name, phone number, email, organization details, etc) in the android contact book. I was successful in modifying a few (name, phone number and email to be specific) but not all. • MySQLdb not INSERTING, _mysql does fine.

  Okay, I log onto the MySQL command-line client as root. I then open or otherwise run a python app using the MySQLdb module as root. When I check the results using python (IDLE), everything looks fine. When I use the MySQL command-line client, no INSERT has occurred. If I change things around to _mysql instead of MySQLdb, everything works fine. I'd appreciate any clarification(s).   So, I have a table and I want to get the value from one field in the record with the greatest DateTime() value in another field and where still another field is equal to a certain value. Example data: Balance Created MeterNumber 7924.252 02/02/2010 10:31:48 AM 2743800 7924.243 02/02/2010 11:01:37 AM 2743876 7924.227 02/02/2010 03:55:50 PM 2743876 I want to get the balance for a record with the greatest created datetime for a specific meter number. In VFP 7 I can use: SELECT a.balance ,MAX(a.created) FROM MyTable a WHERE a.meternumber = '2743876' But, in the VFP v8.0 OleDb driver I am using in my ASP.NET page I must conform to VFP 8 which says you must have a GROUP BY listing each non aggregate field listed in the SELECT. This would return a record for each balance if I added GROUP BY a.balance to my query. Yes, I could issue a SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70 but I wanted to know if this could be done without having to revert to a previous version?

  I'm trying to find an xmlHttpRequest or similar resource that I can query directly to obtain an xml file for my own purposes. At this site it is possible to browse a Google Map mashup with markers. Unfortunately it is only possible to view all markers at a small view range, whereas I simply want to obtain all the information at once for the entire state. Using the firebug console in firefox I can enter the following javascript line to obtain the xml that I desire: document.getElementById("stationXML").value I tracked this document element down to an <input> tag, but I can't figure out how that input is set. • Java framework "suggestion" for persisting the results from an Oracle 9i stored procedure using Apac

  Hello, I am developing a Java servlet which calls an Oracle stored procedure. The stored procedure is likely to "grow" over time, and I have concerns the amount of time taken to "display the results on a web page". While I am at the implementation stage, I would like some suggestions of a Persistence framework which will work on Apache Tomcat 5.5? I see two approaches to persisting the database results. A scheduled database query every N minutes, or something which utilises triggers. Hibernate seems like the obvious answer, but I have never called stored procedures from Hibernate (HQL and Criteria). Is there a more appropriate framework which can be used? Thank you. cheers Miles.

• Disk-based caching of dynamic images in IIS 7

  I'm writing an image server which needs to handle a relatively large number of concurrent requests (~5,000). The images being served are dynamically scaled down and cropped based on per-image specifications, which are queried from a database. The number of images is rather large, so an in-memory cache isn't viable (thrashing would most definitely occur). I'm using native caching in IIS 7 to avoid hitting the ASP.NET app which generates the images on-the-fly. I've looked around, but I couldn't find a simple way to configure IIS to store the cache on-disk -- is there such an option, or would I need to roll my own? I'd rather avoid placing the generated images in a public folder, so they can be served statically, since I would prefer to invalidate the cache entries using a query parameter (last-edit time from the database,) which doesn't seem possible to reconcile with static caching. I would love to get some feedback on this!

  I can not locate the correct method to make the first item in a combo box visible. The app starts with an empty combo box. The user makes a radio box selection then clicks Go! (how original). The combo box is loaded via an LDAP query. All this is working just fine. The problem is the combo box still appears to the user to be empty. They must click the arrow to see the options. How do I make the first option 'visible' after the users clicks Go!? I thought it would be simple... Thanks, Ed

  I have a query result set which I like to edit first and then put it to my ListView. • How to schedule emails to send out

  Using PHP, I have a query that goes through my DB looking for pending tasks with reminder triggers at certain times of the day. I have a cronjob that runs every 10 mins and checks the DB for any rows that has "remind_me" field set to go off within the next 10 mins. If it does find something, what's the best way to queue an email with the task information? I guess I'll need some sort of message queue system, but how does the email part work? Will I need another cronjob that runs every minute to check the queue system?

  SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

To take an example given a query for ISBN 9785554443331 - it returns "Chemistry the central science 11 edition" : new:$50 used good condition:$35 used poor condition:$20 If the return does not match with our product list an option to "click here to visit our partner" appears and which returns: Atextbook: $10 Btextbook: $10 Ctextbook: $9 Dtextbook: $8.50 I understand that the first search would be done simultaneous on the web and our database to determine whether or not we have the book and the web to get the average of the price of a given list of web site. • LINQ to SQL repository - caching data

  I have built my first MVC solution and used the repository pattern for retrieving/inserting/updating my database. I am now in the process of refactoring and I've noticed that a lot of (in fact all) the methods within my repository are hitting the database everytime. This seems overkill and what I'd ideally like is to do is 'cache' the main data object e.g. 'GetAllAdverts' from the database and to then query against this cached object for things like 'FindAdvert(id), AddAdvert(), DeleteAdvert() etc..' I'd also need to consider updating/deleting/adding records to this cache object and the database. What is the best apporoach for something like this? My knowledge of this type of things is minimal and really looking for advice/guidance/tutorial to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
