• In Spring MVC, is it possible to have different return types in one request handler method?

  For example, if a request succeeds, I will return a View ,if not, return a String indicating error message and set the content-type to either xml or json. Based on what I read, seems like I should use "void" as the return type for handler methods. Check this out: "void if the method handles the response itself (by writing the response content directly, declaring an argument of type ServletResponse / HttpServletResponse for that purpose) or if the view name is supposed to be implicitly determined through a RequestToViewNameTranslator (not declaring a response argument in the handler method signature)."(Spring Framework reference). What I dont understand is what " the view name is supposed to be implicitly determined through a RequestToViewNameTranslator (not declaring a response argument in the handler method signature)" means? Any anyone give me an example?

  Its said that property should not be "Set" only and it should be "Get" as well. What should i do if I need to set value to a variable from some other class? The will keep changing so I cannot pass it through constructor.   The situation: I need to create about 40+ solutions that all reference 3 projects and have one project that is unique to each one. I'd like to create a multi-project template that does this, but from what I've read it looks like it's very difficult or impossible (related SO question, but doesn't answer). I want my solution to look like this (names changed of course): These three are used by all solutions created under this "family": MyCompany.Extensions MyCompany.MyProject.Tests.Shared MyCompany.MyProject.Scripts This one is the one that makes the solution unique, 123, 124, 125 etc: MyCompany.MyProject.Tests.Unit123 Is it possible to set up a multi-project template that will generate this structure?   Hi, Hoping someone could pls let me know how to prevent the symbol "&" from being replaced by "&amp;" within my URL, specifically within javascript? Just to expand on requirement, I am getting my url from an oracle database table, which I then use within Oracle Application Express, to set the src attribute of an iframe to this url. FYI, the url stored in the Oracle table is actually stored correctly, i.e. http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&f=mydir/Summary.xml what appears in my use when trying to pass over into iframe src using javascript is: http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&amp;f=mydir/Summary.xml which basically returns a page cannot be found Hope this clarified further my issue.   I am displaying a Form from one process by passing the Show method a window handle from another process. I only want this new Form to display above the passed Form, like a MessageBox. However, this newly launched Form appears above other application windows, despite: Setting Process.WindowStyle.Hidden to the Form-displaying process Overriding the ShowWithoutActivation and CreateParams properties of the Form. Making sure Form.TopMost is not true I have checked that the window handle is valid from the second process. Focus is not stolen, however. • What is the right way to implement communication between java objects?

  I'm working on an academic project which simulates a rather large queuing procedure in java. The core of the simulator rests within one package where there exist 8 classes, each one implementing a single concept. Every class in the project follows SRP. These classes encapsulate the behavior of the simulator and inter-connect every other class in the project. The problem that has arisen is that most of these 8 classes are, as is logical i think, tightly coupled and each one has to have working knowledge of every other class in this package in order to be able to call methods from it when needed. The application needs only one instance of each class so it might be better to create static fields for each class in a new class and use that to make calls -instead of preserving a reference in each class for every other class in the package (which I'm certain that is incorrect)-, but is this considered a correct design solution? or is there a design pattern maybe that better suits my needs?

  I am trying to implement a callback timer function in C++ which should do a callback after a timeout. I am listening on a socket and then waiting for messages on it. so if I have something like getMessages() and I want to pass the timer function in it as an argument. So how can it be implemented that after the receive of a message, the timer is started and the callback happens if there is a timeout before the next messages arrives. I am new to callback functions.   I want to implement a derived class that should also implement an interface, that have a function that the base class can call. The following gives a warning as it is not safe to pass a this pointer to the base class constructor: struct IInterface { void FuncToCall() = 0; }; struct Base { Base(IInterface* inter) { m_inter = inter; } void SomeFunc() { inter->FuncToCall(); } IInterface* m_inter; }; struct Derived : Base, IInterface { Derived() : Base(this) {} FuncToCall() {} }; What is the best way around this? I need to supply the interface as an argument to the base constructor, as it is not always the dervied class that is the interface; sometimes it may be a totally different class. I could add a function to the base class, SetInterface(IInterface* inter), but I would like to avoid that.

• Why does FrameworkElement's FindResource() Method Accept an Object and not a String?

  I understand that calling FindResource() on a FrameworkElement (e.g. a Window) can be used to find a resource in the FrameworkElement's ResourceDictionary. For example, I've used it many times to access a Style through code to add a new Setter to the Style dynamically. I always pass the x:Key value of the Style as a string into the FindResource() method. Like... Style style = w.FindResource("GridDescriptionColumn") as Style; My question is, I noticed that FindResource() accepts an argument of type object and not an argument of type string. I can't for the life of my think of a reason I would call FindResource() with an argument that is not a string. It makes me think that I may unaware of other ways to use FindResource(). Does anyone know why FindResource() accepts a parameter type of object and not string? If so, what would be an example of calling FindResource() with a parameter type other than a string? Thanks.

• How do I quiet image_submit_tag from params hash?

  Does anyone know how to eliminate the x and y params when you use image_submit_tag with a get method? I have a simple search form, and using get to pass the value in the url. When I use image_submit_tag, it also appends the x and y coords, so I get urls like http://example.com?q=somesearchterm&x=15&y=12 When I have used submit_tag, I can use the :name = nil attribute (was in one of Ryan Bates' Railscasts), but it doesn't seem to work for image_submit_tag. Granted it doesn't affect functionality, but I don't need them and would like them quieted.

  I am learning C# and I am confused with the thread safety of the copies of the class instances as below: eg: classA objA; classA objB = objA; objA.field1 = value2; //do I need lock around modification of field1? //let say we pass the objB to another thread objB.field1 = value1 //do I need a lock for objB because of the modification of field1? I am confused because coming from the background of C++, the class in C# is the reference type. If both objA and objB refer to the same memory underlying, then I would need a lock to protect the simultaneous writing to the field1. Could someone confirm with this or am I missing something? In the case of threads and networking requests via a service API library, a request could be made with a reference to the original Activity, and then an orientation change could occur, leaving the thread pointing to the old Activity. While this can be fixed, it's tedious and ugly compared to just handling the configuration changes yourself. Why should it be avoided?

• Interesting XSL Dilemma

  I've got this issue. A template called "checkbox" that's called from while inside a table HTML element and also outside of it. To solve an issue, I've added tags to "checkbox" input control. Here's what I'd like to do to but I'm not sure if it's possible or not. When I hit my "row" (part of the custom table markup) template, I would set some variable or pass some parameter, that for each template applied afterwards, would know it was in a "row" and do something special based on this information. I know I can't add parameters to apply-templates. I may be able to add a row "mode" but I can't make changes to each template and have one copy with the mod parameter and one without. Thanks for any suggestions. I know the ideal solution would to be to make changes to the XML but I'm not sure if I can do that as this point. That's a "content" issue. :P Thanks!

Its important that the user can copy the url and then use it later(and get the same settings). Its also important to be able to save these settings on the user in the database. So far I have created a ModelView class that contains the parameters but I am not sure that this is the right way to go? Maby I should pass all inte the URL. If so, how do I accomplish this?   Hi, I want to build a selector from a class method. I'm doing it this way: NavigationTreeActionHandler* handler=[NavigationTreeActionHandler self]; NavigationTreeNode* bombsNode=new NavigationTreeNode("Bombs","bigbomb.tif" ,handler,@selector(BigBombButtonPressed:)); I need to pass to NavigationTreeNode the target and the selector to the target method. I try to get the target using the self property of the class object (Don't know if htis is the correct way to do it). Then I get the selector for the class method I want to call on the class. Everything compiles ok but it fails when I use: [[handler class] instanceMethodSignatureForSelector:selector]; I get a nil and don't really know why... could anybody help please?   My web service was created some time back using IBM JAX-RPC. As a part of enhancement, I need to provide some security to the existing service. One way is to provide a handler, all the request and response will pass through that handler only. In the request I can implement some authentication rules for each and every application/user accessing it. Other than this, What are the possible ways for securing it? I have heard someting called wsse security for web service. Is it possible to implement it for the JAX-RPC? Or it can be implemented only for JAX-WS? Need some helpful inputs on the wsse security so that i can jump learning it. Other than handler and wsse security, any other possible way to make a service secure? Please help.

  Is there a way to count only records that are not null; similar to "COUNTA" in Excel? I would think this would be very simple process, but nothing I have tried has worked. If necessary, I can try to work this into my SQL query, but the query is already incredibly complicated. Also, I've found very little documentation for how to calculate report totals, and how to total from groups. Would anyone have any recommendations on what to use as a reference?

• WPF binding: Doing a temperature converter app

  Hi there, I'm doing a little app that basically has 2 text boxes. You'll enter Fahrenheit into TextBoxA and Celsius into TextBoxB. As the text changes in TextBoxA I want the equivalent Celsius value to be displayed in TextBoxB and vice versa. I can come up with a solution pretty easy for this but i'm trying to be a little clever. Is there a way to do it all in Xaml except for a Convert class that does the maths? So basically I want the TextChanged event of one textBox to pass in it's value into a Converter class that is evaluated and sent to the other TextBox and visa versa. Anyone know how I can achieve this ... and if it's possible at all?
