• Android: TabHost How To: set new content in existing tabs upon menu button?

  Hello stackoverflow, I recently started Android programming and was working on my first program which displays a historic text document, sectioned by tabs via TabHost. I have limited my program to one activity and merely used setContent in my TabSpec's to switch between different XML views. The document has both unedited and corrected versions of the text for which I have built text views to accommodate. I wanted to implement the standard menu to have buttons to "view corrected" and "view original" and switch the content of the tabs which have changes (without altering the tabs or their indicators). I've read on the TabHost API and there is no way to edit existing tab content with setContent() of TabSpec; and AFAIK TabWidget only affects the actual tabs, not the content that is displayed upon pressing them. I've thought about creating a new class which extended TabHost and super() all of the original methods, while including one more which updated the mTabSpec list. My question would be, how would I update the frameLayout view of a specific tab to display content I specify?

• Android ProgressBar.setProgressDrawable only works once?

  In a color picker, I have 3 SeekBars for Hue, Saturation, and Value. Calling setProgressDrawable on these SeekBars only works once -- at initialization from onCreate. When the user updates the Hue SeekBar, I want to call setProgressDrawable for the Saturation and Value SeekBars, to show the user their color choices for the new Hue. But all calls to setProgressDrawable (after the initial ones from onCreate) cause the SeekBar to be blanked. How can I update the background gradient of my SeekBars based upon user input? Thanks!   I am working on something like this: On a webpage, there is an article wrapped in a DIV, an Edit button. When a user click on the Edit button, insert an textarea via javascript, load the html of the DIV into the textarea, load and initial tinymce. When the user click on the Save button, save and update the article via ajax, and destroy tinymce completely. The problem is that, I failed to destroy tinymce completely. When the user click on the Edit button again, a new tinymce instance will load while the old instance is just hidden. BTW, I am using the jQuery version of tinymce

  I have the following DataServiceQuery running agaist an ADO Data Service (with the update installed to make it run like .net 4): DataServiceQuery<Account> q = (_gsc.Users .Where(c => c.UserId == myId) .SelectMany(c => c.ConsumerXref) .Select(x => x.Account) .Where(a => a.AccountName == "My Account" && a.IsActive) .Select(a => a)) as DataServiceQuery<Account>; When I run it, I get an exception: Cannot specify query options (orderby, where, take, skip) on single resource As far as I can tell, I need to use a version of "SelectMany" that includes an additonal lambda expression (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb549040.aspx), but I am not able to get this to work correctly. Could someone show me how to properly structure the "SelectMany" call? Thank you for any help.

• Which datagrid to use for ASP.NET MVC2 project?

  Hi, I am developing a commercial MVC2 app that requires a grid that has callback update in some form to support 10,000+ rows. It should also support relatively rich content (icons, multiline descriptions etc). Although it requires the usual paging/scrolling/sorting features it does not need support for grouping. So nothing that special. The commercial grids I looked at were Component Art (http://www.componentart.com/products/aspnetmvc/datagrid/) and Telerik (http://www.telerik.com/products/aspnet-mvc/grid.aspx) which both look pretty good but may be a little OTT for what I need. They are also $800 and $999 respectively (1 developer). I've also looked at jqGrid (http://www.trirand.net/download.aspx) and the grid from MvcContrib. These appear ok but for a commercial app I am concerned that these may be risky options - though could be wrong there. I'd really appreciate any views/exprience on either the above grids or perhaps you can suggest a better option/approach. FYI I am using EF4 and C#. Cheers

• FullCalendar/JSON event feed problem

  I am using a php/MySQL driven event feed to JSON. I am also trying to use greek html entities (i.e. &Gamma-with the semicolon) in the title for the event. Because FullCalendar will not let me see all the processies in firebug I can't see exactly what is going on but it will not render the Γ, etc. I have tried all the combinations I can think of in the php json_encode, the actual MySQL db field result. QTip which fullCalendar recommended on their site actually renders it correctly in the tip rendering. I am at a loss because this is something I really wish to use in the app if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Slight Update I finally found that the JSON is being manipulated to make the & itself into &amp';' no matter what I do; so any relevant info on this could come in handy also. Thx

• Can't open .svn/text-base/file.svn-base ?

  I'm using TortoiseSVN. I just made quite a few changes to my working copy and now I went to do a commit some of the files went through but at one file named Search.aspx.cs it says Commit failed (details follow): Can't open file 'C:\-----\trunk\.svn\text-base\Search.aspx.cs.svn-base': The system cannot find the file specified. I have tried doing a SVN update and SVN cleanup and nothing is restoring this file. I can't even create a diff because it gives a similar error about missing files. How do I fix this? What did I do to cause it?

  In Android documentation describing "Configuring General Window Properties", it is suggested that specifying properties via XML is preferable whenever possible to avoid seeing the title bar flash. As an example, instead of setting Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE with requestWindowFeature, they set it to @android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar. Is there a similar way to set a custom title bar to be used in the XML? Update: I just found this article, according to which this article, the best way to draw a title bar is to ignore FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE and instead just draw the title bar as part of your main view. This would not only avoid the flashing, but also problems caused by padding.

• Google Chrome: XMLHttpRequest.send() not working while doing POST.

  I'm working on an application that allows the user to send a file using a form (a POST request), and that executes a series of GET requests while that file is being uploaded to gather information about the state of the upload. It works fine in IE and Firefox, but not so much in Chrome and Safari. The problem is that even though send() is called on the XMLHttpRequest object, nothing is being requested as can be seen in Fiddler. To be more specific, an event handler is placed on the "submit" event of the form, that places a timeout function call on the window: window.setTimeout(startPolling, 10); and in this function "startPolling" sequence is started that keeps firing GET requests to receive status updates from a web service that returns text/json that can be used to update the UI. Is this a limitation (perhaps security-wise?) on WebKit based browsers? Is this a Chrome bug? (I'm seeing the same behaviour in Safari though).

My question here is how can I change my code so it uses it and updates when ResourceWrapper change. I tried: InfoLabel.Content = ((ResourceWrapper)App.Current.Resources["ResourceWrapper"]) .ApplicationStrings.SomeString but it doesn't work. Any ideas?

I have to have a server admin update the feed to my liking, so if you can tell me how to get this to work as is, without adding tags to my HTML please let me know. I will be using this with jQuery, and ive been trying to use getJSON which is what returns null. $.getJSON('http://portlandonline.com/shared/cfm/json.cfm?c=27321',function(json){ alert(json); }); that returns null. But if i use a flickr feed for example, it works fine. it returns what it should, [onject Object]. Any ideas?

  I've tried a veriety of jQuery plugins recently and I keep getting this error … … regardless of what plugin I try to use. I've checked the links to the JS files which are all there and working fine. I'm using Drupal if that makes any difference. I've run the plugins away from the main site to demonstrate that they are working and that I am doing things right with 100% success. Any ideas?   I'm having a zend form - comprised of a number of zend - sub forms, where the user is creating a new question (its a content management system). In one of the subforms, the user can click on a button to add more textfields, like this: [----------] [----------] [click to add more] which should give [----------] [----------] [----------] [click to add more] I'm trying to set a flag in the sub form in question - or set a count on how many times the button has been clicked, to add that many total fields to the subform - but its simply not working. I tried using a static count variable - but the value doesnt get incremented at all. Any thoughts on how to do this in a Zend-subform within a zend form? I'll definitely update if I hit a solution. • How to parse Json object in ASP classic passed from jQuery

  Using a jQuery dialog, on clicking OK I call $.post( "save.asp", { id: 1, value: "abcxyz" } ); to pass the values to my ASP classic file that will update the database. I don't need a return value (unless it fails). I'm a relative noob to jQuery, so I'm assuming I'm using JSON to pass the values to the ASP file. I just don't know what to do with them in ASP (using VBScript). I've seen things like ASP Extreme, but I'm not clear on how to use them. I've tried referencing values via the Request collection, but no luck. All I want to do is take the values passed, parse them out, then save them to the database. Sorry if this is a duplicate, but this just isn't clicking for me.

  Hi We need to develop a .NET application, basically a WinForms client, which needs to be notified of changes only from the server to update the UI only in case of necessity and not every time. We initially thought of NetTCPBinding but understood that it has problems with firewalls across domains and secure networks. We now consider long-polling as a viable option but we could only find this being used with WPF and XAML clients. For example, http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/duplexhttp But we could not find anything with WinForms. My opinion is that long-polling has to do with WCF and does not matter what UI technology is used (within .NET). Do you think it is possible to use long-polling with a custom WCF channel for WinForms? I am on the way to develop a POC but dont have much time. Any help in the right direction is much appreciated.   I have a few places where I need to compare 2 (nullable) values, to see if they're the same. I think there should be something in the framework to support this, but can't find anything, so instead have the following: public static bool IsDifferentTo(this bool? x, bool? y) { return (x.HasValue != y.HasValue) ? true : x.HasValue && x.Value != y.Value; } Then, within code I have if (x.IsDifferentTo(y)) ... I then have similar methods for nullable ints, nullable doubles etc. Is there not an easier way to see if two nullable types are the same? Update: Turns out that the reason this method existed was because the code has been converted from VB.Net, where Nothing = Nothing returns false (compare to C# where null == null returns true). The VB.Net code should have used .Equals... instead.
